00:05Lumpur in 2024 has urged the government to expedite the issuance of her death certificate
00:10and clarify the proposed compensation payment.
00:14Lawyer M. Partibin, representing the family, said the death certificate was necessary because
00:20the woman, G. Vijayalichmi, remains classified as missing and only with a death certificate
00:26can any compensation claim be processed.
00:29Partibin said letters were sent on February 24 to the Attorney General's chambers and
00:34the National Registration Department for the release of the death certificate.
00:39He added that the family had met the Prime Minister and members of the Cabinet, but there
00:44was no confirmation on the amount of the compensation and they are seeking a fair resolution from
00:49the government.
00:51Partibin said the death certificate is also required to settle financial matters in India
00:56India and while no lawsuit has been filed, the family will consider legal action if there
01:00is no resolution.
01:03Vijayalichmi, 48, from Andhra Pradesh, was on holiday in Malaysia when she was swallowed by
01:08an 8-meter-deep sinkhole which opened up while she was walking along Jalan Masjid India on August
01:1323rd, 2024.
