02:54Pouco, dietro.
03:04Narcos ou percebam a mercado de cocaína
03:08lucrative place to send their cocaine
03:10if you're looking at how much it costs
03:12in the US $87 a gram
03:14to buy cocaine compared to
03:16$300 a gram here in Australia
03:18it does go to show you that there's a
03:20significant profit margin differential
03:22because it is so hard
03:24to get it in and we are so far away
03:26that drives the price up
03:28and the demand is there and people
03:30will pay it
03:32Australia is a
03:34goldmine for cocaine
03:36traffickers givenly
03:38dominant process that we
03:40command the invisibles
03:42behind all this they will use any
03:44means if they think they're going to get it through
03:48la idea era
03:49enviar un semi-submergible
03:51digamos desde Ecuador
03:53íbamos a enviarlo saliendo de Ecuador
03:55que atravesara todo el Pacífico
03:58hasta llegar a Australia
03:59porque los semi-submergibles
04:02tenían capacidad
04:04para estar
04:05un mes en el agua
04:08if you're a business guy
04:10and you have a kilogram
04:11of cocaine
04:12to sell in America
04:13for $25,000
04:14or sell in Australia
04:16for $300,000
04:17what are you going to do?
04:22LaRue is no doubt
04:23thinking when he looks at Australia
04:24that he is going to make
04:26a lot of money
04:27he's the eternal businessman
04:29if he can open up that pipeline
04:30or that drug stream
04:31to Australia
04:32and get that regular flow
04:33ultimately
04:34he's going to be the winner
04:43Paul LaRue
04:44initially
04:45was born in Rhodesia
04:47during the
04:48white flight
04:49from Rhodesia
04:50he ended up
04:50in South Africa
04:51during the Mugabe
04:52takeover
04:53moral accounts
04:55he was the kind
04:55of kid
04:56that would
04:56close his door
04:57at the end
04:58of the school day
04:58and sit on the computer
04:59he wasn't out
05:00with his friends
05:01every afternoon
05:02very very bright
05:03I believe he was
05:05a high school dropout
05:06but he was fascinated
05:07with technology
05:09he showed a great
05:10interest in computer
05:11programming
05:12and that more or less
05:13dictated the rest
05:14of his life
05:15he was self-taught
05:17that's the uniqueness
05:18of Paul
05:19and the brilliance
05:20of Paul
05:20he wasn't taught
05:23a method
05:24he just did it
05:39he's been waiting
05:40much of his teenage life
05:41to escape
05:42that middle class
05:43upbringing
05:43in South Africa
05:44all of a sudden
05:46he's got the opportunity
05:47and he takes it
05:48he moves to London
05:49he's talented
05:50with computers
05:50and he finds work
05:52as a software programmer
05:54and he comes across
05:55this Australian girl
05:56who's on holidays
05:58in London
05:58they form a connection
06:01which turns romantic
06:04eventually he follows
06:05her back to Australia
06:14he moves to Sydney
06:16he finds a way
06:17to continue
06:18his software programming
06:19and he forms
06:20an Australian company
06:21and he was married
06:22to an Australian woman
06:24and gained
06:26status in Australia
06:27based upon that marriage
06:32where they're living
06:33it's not glamorous
06:34it's a two-story
06:37yellow brick unit
06:38in Belmore
06:39in Sydney's west
06:42by day
06:43he's working
06:44as an on-contract
06:45software programmer
06:48but at night time
06:49he's working
06:50on a secret project
06:52which is a military-grade
06:53encryption program
06:54this is software
06:56that locks up
06:57every file
06:58on a computer
06:58and stops
06:59any government agency
07:00from accessing it
07:01they called it
07:02encryption for the masses
07:04is what it was
07:04E4M
07:17I guess you would call
07:19Paul kind of a
07:20privacy anarchist type
07:22he didn't believe
07:22the government
07:23had the right
07:23to look at people's
07:27private emails
07:28etc
07:28everybody likes
07:30to categorize Paul
07:31they call him
07:32the fat geek
07:33and all this
07:34kind of stuff
07:34Paul is far
07:36from a fat geek
07:38Paul is a
07:39brilliant individual
07:41who has a
07:43personality
07:44like a
07:45fortune 500 CEO
07:51but at that point
07:52in his life
07:53LaRue hates Australia
07:54he hates Australians
07:57he hates the welfare
07:58system
07:59he hates the
08:00attitude of Australians
08:01he hates the way
08:02Australians see
08:02themselves in the world
08:05he criticizes
08:06at any chance
08:07he gets online
08:10Australia could
08:11disappear into the
08:11Pacific
08:12and the only difference
08:13it would make
08:13is the Americans
08:14would have one less
08:15country to protect
08:18going on
08:19discussion board
08:20forums
08:20enraging
08:21every Australian
08:22on the forums
08:23he creates
08:24a campaign
08:25of hate
08:26against him
08:29Australia
08:30had too much
08:30law
08:31and structure
08:32for Paul
08:34Paul needed
08:35a bit of
08:36lawlessness
08:36to thrive
08:40there was scathing
08:41of Australia's
08:42laws
08:42and I think
08:43that caused
08:44him to move
08:45offshore
08:47he ultimately
08:48divorced that
08:49woman
08:49and then
08:51found his way
08:52to the Philippines
08:57any successful
08:58transnational
08:59organized crime
09:00boss
09:01has
09:02corruption
09:04involvement
09:04at the highest
09:05levels of the
09:06government
09:06period
09:07so
09:08Paul LaRue
09:09he knew
09:10he can get away
09:12with a lot
09:12in the Philippines
09:26he discovered
09:27he was adopted
09:28for him
09:29that was
09:30heartbreaking
09:30he had
09:31absolutely
09:31no idea
09:32and he
09:33took it
09:34really badly
09:35his view
09:36of the world
09:36and his life
09:37changed
09:41at that point
09:42LaRue
09:42starts talking
09:43about a
09:43business venture
09:44that he's
09:44setting up
09:45in the US
09:47the US
09:48is a pill

10:00Paul foresaw
10:01all that
10:02he was ahead
10:03of his time
10:04and he had
10:04thought this
10:05out
10:05very well
10:08so he was
10:09brilliant
10:09in far as
10:10how he set
10:10up his
10:11company
10:11called
10:12RX Limited
10:12this illegal
10:14pharmaceutical
10:14business
10:15to sell
10:16pills
10:17on the
10:17internet
10:18that were
10:18being
10:19distributed
10:19all over
10:20America
10:20and making
10:21hundreds of
10:22millions
10:22of dollars

10:33of pharmaceutical
10:34substances
10:35where they
10:36had doctors
10:37on the
10:37payroll
10:37and the
10:38doctors
10:38would take
10:39incoming
10:39calls
10:39and go
10:40okay
10:40I'll give
10:41you
10:4120 pills
10:43of Viagra
10:44without ever
10:45seeing the
10:45individual
10:46he knew
10:47that US
10:49law enforcement
10:49would not
10:50be that
10:50concerned
10:51with schedule
10:524 drugs
10:53and non-controlled
10:54substances
10:55even though
10:56people were
10:56dying
10:57and even
10:57though people
10:58were getting
10:58addicted
10:58he knew
10:59it wasn't
11:00going to
11:00create a lot
11:01of attention
11:10Paul LaRue
11:11is making

11:32he's investing
11:32elsewhere
11:33he's looking
11:33at where
11:34he can make
11:34a profit

11:40mind
11:40he conquered
11:41the pharmaceuticals

11:45for Paul
11:46to take

28:51Tudo bem, meu amigo.
28:53Eu amo isso.
28:54Então, quando eu estou, ele me disse para o carro, ele me diz para o carro, ele me traz a

29:06trama, ele me traz a trama.
31:06As we make entry, Paul immediately goes in the defensive.
31:10Você pode ver que ele completamente causou ele.
31:14Ele foi porque, no, não, não, não, não.
31:15Você não vai me dar um arresto.
31:16Não, não, não, não, não.
31:18Lá, não, não, não.
31:20Você não vai me dar um arresto.
31:21Não, não, não.
31:23I think he's trying to figure out how two dumb cops actually were able to catch somebody as smart as
31:29Hill.
31:30Paul's screaming like a madman.
31:33No f***ing cues, no go to hell, just screaming.
31:37Finally, the Liberian goes, sir, put your hands behind your back.
31:42You are under arrest or I will shoot you.
31:47We're all like, oh no, because in Africa, arrests go from zero to 60.
31:52There's no escalation of force in Africa.
31:59So finally, everything calms down.
32:02We get him handcuffed.
32:03We secure the evidence.
32:04He starts immediately trying to bribe the police officers.
32:10He's going, my African brother, my African brother, how can we work this out?
32:15And he wouldn't even look at me.
32:22He wouldn't look at any of the other DEA agents.
32:25He would only focus on them and he was trying to get them to let him go.
32:35Paul LaRue learned at some point he was going back to America to face justice.
32:42He wasn't happy about that.
32:45Paul laughs and says, I'm going to apologize in advance.
32:50I'm not getting on that plane.
32:53What?
32:54He goes, I'm not getting on that plane.
32:58I heard him yelling.
33:00He didn't want to go back.
33:01He felt like it was a kidnapping.
33:04It takes not only all the agents, but about six Liberians to carry him down three flights of stairs.
33:14We're getting pressed up into the van.
33:16One Liberian goes, shut the door, shut the door.
33:18And he shoves him in.
33:19I'm telling you, it's like 10 pounds in a five pound bag.
33:26Paul is like twisted and turned, pressed against the door, can't sit down.
33:31And we're just like, we're going to the airport like this.
33:35Paul breaks into hysterics.
33:38And he goes, I did apologize in advance.
33:41I told you I wasn't getting on the plane.
33:47As the head of this operation, I was concerned about one thing only.
33:51We were going back on this jet.
33:53And this guy, 300 pounds, going to break bed and charge to the cockpit that had no cockpit thought.
33:59So I was afraid like this guy is going to try to take over the plane.
34:05He was told to behave himself on the plane or that he would probably be thrown off the plane.
34:13OK, at 35,000 feet.
34:16I'm being facetious, but, you know, we were tired of the antics at that point.
34:21Everybody's just happy to get on the plane.
34:23He decides to be agreeable.
34:25Then we sit him in a chair on the plane and he becomes the chairman of the board.
34:31The time now was for Paul to negotiate the best deal possible.
34:45Based off the tracking of the vessel, the path it was taking, the weather conditions,
34:50we believed it was going to make a stop in the northern area of the Cook Islands.
34:54We identified a possible area that we thought it might go,
34:57which was a place called Penran Island, which was a small atoll.
35:00One of our concerns when we looked at that area was that it had an airstrip.
35:06You look at the options.
35:07Is this a case of the vessel simply arriving at a location unloading to another vessel
35:12or potentially to an aircraft?
35:15So myself and a member of the Australian Border Force traveled to the Cook Islands
35:19to coordinate a possible interdiction.
35:25Unfortunately, the vessel just didn't arrive.
35:31We're no longer getting locational data as to where the vessel may be.
35:37Captain Ivan found the tracker and he tossed the tracker off the boat.
35:44Did the vessel meet with another vessel that we weren't aware of?
35:47Did it go to another location that we didn't suspect?
35:50There was a multitude of things running through our minds at that time.
35:55We were baffled as to what had happened.
36:04He decided to come fully aboard, as we call, joining Team America, right?
36:10And he wanted to cooperate with the government.
36:14So one of the questions on my mind,
36:16hey, Paul, what the hell happened with that vessel?
36:20After the arrest of Paul,
36:23he made a call in an effort to locate where the boat was.
36:27Couldn't get hold of Ivan.
36:29Couldn't get hold of anybody on the boat.
36:31So he called Ivan's wife.
36:35She said that they were got by the fishmen.
36:38We never were able to determine who the fishmen was.
36:43The working hypothesis on this is
36:45that maybe they got interdicted by pirates.
37:00I got a message that the Tongan Navy had located the vessel
37:04washed ashore at an atoll in Tonga.
37:06A male had been located on board who was deceased.
37:10And that person on board was Milan Rinzak.
37:16A load of 204 kilos of cocaine was located,
37:20secreted underneath the bunk in the forward cabin
37:22in a purpose-built hide.
37:24We were wondering what happened to Vaklovich.
37:27You know, how did they end up in this predicament?
37:31But the odd thing was,
37:33if they were interdicted by pirates,
37:36they would have searched that boat
37:37and found those kilos and taken them.
37:39So we really don't know the mystery behind the Mvija Reef
37:43and who actually, who the fishmen were
37:48and whatever happened to Captain Ivan
37:51and his first mate.
38:08LaRue told myself that he believed that
38:11if anybody was going to survive,
38:13it was going to be Captain Ivan,
38:14that he was a survivor.
38:16And after the seizure of the Mvija Reef,
38:20we saw on TV that some guy showed up
38:25saying that he had been thrown overboard
38:28out in the Pacific and survived.
38:32Eric Stouts and I are at breakfast discussing this
38:34and we're laughing,
38:36but we're like, it's just possible.
38:37We pull it up on the internet
38:39and Paul looks at the picture
38:40and he goes,
38:41that's not Captain Ivan.
38:43To this day,
38:44we really don't know what happened.
38:56If you look at some of the images
38:58from when they first left,
38:59they were very buoyant in their photographs.
39:06And then towards the end,
39:07they were, you know,
39:08almost weather beaten and downcast.
39:15We know that a quantity of cocaine
39:17was on board the vessel.
39:18I think if you look at a journey of this length,
39:21obviously boredom sets in.
39:26My belief is that simply that they,
39:30they took part in some of the drugs
39:32that were on board.
39:35Obviously, the effects of cocaine,
39:36especially of high purity,
39:38had the potential to not only cause cardiac arrest,
39:42but possibly hallucinations.
39:45That may account for some of the disjointed
39:48and bizarre conversations
39:50that Vaklovich may have had with his wife,
39:53that he'd been taken by the fishermen.
39:56I believe that they probably partook
39:58in some of the cocaine.
40:00As a result, they both died
40:02when the vessels ultimately come to rest
40:04on the reef and on its side.
40:07Rinzak, the fact that his body
40:08was located in the wheel well,
40:10this caused his body to stay on board.
40:12The fact that he was in the steering well
40:13of the vessel.
40:16I believe that Vaklovich's body
40:18has become dislodged
40:19and been lost at sea.
40:32As a result of polls,
40:34while working with myself and Eric Stouch,
40:37we created a scenario
40:38to arrest Joseph Hunter
40:41and the mercenary team.
40:42we decided to throw out
40:45an opportunity for them
40:47to kill a mythical DEA agent
40:50and mythical DEA source.
40:52And we actually used,
40:56which is kind of amusing,
40:58the backdrop of the jury
41:02as one of the reasons
41:04for them being killed.
41:09Hunter believed
41:10that there's no way
41:12people died
41:13and just left 204 kilos.
41:16It had to be
41:17a law enforcement operation.
41:18So we let them believe that.
41:20So we used that scenario
41:23to create these two guys
41:26that needed to be killed
41:27on behalf of the Colombians and Paul.
41:32We set up this complex
41:34multi-country operation
41:36in Thailand, Estonia, and Liberia.
41:39So all in all,
41:41we had 10 people arrested,
41:43three continents, nine hours.
41:45I still am amazed
41:48that we were able
41:49to pull off that coordination.
42:01Paul LaRue is a Rubik's Cube.
42:04He's complicated.
42:06He's multifaceted.
42:08He could be gregarious
42:11and affable in one hand,
42:13and then the next day,
42:15that could be a total spin,
42:18and he could be
42:19the most dangerous man
42:21you'd ever meet.
42:22He is the pinnacle
42:25of the cases I've done
42:26in my career.
42:28I don't think
42:29I would ever get
42:31the opportunity
42:31to arrest another Paul LaRue
42:33or anybody of his significance.
42:46Paul LaRue wanted to be
42:48one of those drug lords.
42:49He wanted to be
42:49one of those kingpins,
42:50wanted to be someone
42:52of influence,
42:52whether that be in Africa
42:54or whether that be in Asia
42:56or whether that be in Australia.
42:59I think it was just
43:00an ultimate goal.
43:01He wanted to be
43:01one of those big players.
43:04Paul LaRue was like
43:05the typical
43:06James Bond villain, right?
43:08Any time he could beat
43:09the government,
43:10any time he could
43:11make more money,
43:12it excited him.
43:13The guy was very,
43:15you know,
43:16global in nature,
43:17but he also sat
43:18behind his computer
43:19with his sophisticated technology
43:21and did all his business.
43:23Law enforcement
43:24must start embracing
43:25the Paul LaRue types
43:27because there's more
43:28and more of them out there
43:29with the same motives,
43:31the same methods
43:33of beating the system.
43:35Everything is sweet.
43:37Everything is sweet.
