00:00St Helens Town Centre is undergoing a major regeneration programme aimed at modernising
00:05and revitalising the area while addressing long-term economic challenges. The Council,
00:11working with the English Cities Fund, has prioritised both St Helens and Earlstown
00:16centres with Phase 1 including a new market hall, hotel, office space, residential units and an
00:23extended bus station. Funding totals £127m with £72m from the Council, £12m from private and
00:32government sources including Town Deal grants and £31m from the Liverpool City Region Combined
00:39Authority for transport infrastructure. Construction began following planning approvals and property
00:45acquisitions. The Hard Shore Centre has been demolished to enable site preparation and early
00:51development. Councillor Anthony Burns confirmed the programme will provide long-term economic,
00:58social and employment benefits. The Council emphasised ongoing community engagement to manage
01:04disruption including consultation with businesses and residents. Completion is scheduled for summer
01:102028 though sectional openings such as the transport interchange may occur earlier. Unforeseen events
01:18may alter timing and updates will continue to be shared. The initiative aims to restore public
01:23confidence, attract private investment and create a modern town centre with improved amenities.
