00:00Cardiff Council planners have approved the Kingsway Public Square revamp,
00:04aiming to turn the neglected road into a vibrant civic space.
00:09Officials say the Kingsway corridor is neglected and unsafe,
00:13suffering from heavy traffic, poor crossings, an ageing underpass,
00:17vehicle pollution and overall visual decline.
00:21The proposed square will be largely pedestrian only,
00:25with tree-lined walkways, well-lit crossings, wide pavements, benches,
00:28cafe spill-outs and public art reflecting Cardiff's history.
00:34Vehicle access will be highly restricted, limited to maintenance and organised events,
00:39cycling routes will connect but not serve as a primary bike corridor,
00:43supporting sustainable mobility.
