New visitor figures and fresh market proposals highlight continuing change in Huddersfield. We examine what has opened, what is planned, and how the council says it will shape the town.

00:00Huddersfield has seen more than 350,000 visits recorded at The Light in Kingsgate since it opened in April 2025,
00:09according to Kirkley's council.
00:11The venue brings together a six-screen cinema and 15 different leisure activities, including bowling, climbing and batting cages, as
00:20well as places to eat and meet.
00:22Cancel data indicates there have been around 120,000 cinema admissions and 75,000 bowling visits so far.
00:31The authority says the scheme was supported by a regeneration loan, which has now been fully repaid, and that more
00:38than 100 full- and part-time jobs have been created, with 75 roles taken by people living locally.
00:46The investment forms part of the Huddersfield blueprint, a long-term plan aimed at increasing footfall and supporting day and
00:54evening activity in the town centre.
00:57Work is continuing on phase one of our cultural heart, due to open in 2026, bringing a food hall, community
01:05library and new public square.
01:07Meanwhile, the council is advancing proposals to refresh Huddersfield market, consolidating trading into one location and upgrading facilities while preserving
01:18heritage features.
01:19Plans include improved accessibility, updated toilet provision and more flexible stall layouts for traders.
