00:00The latest property and regeneration developments across Merseyside range from major city centre transformations to projects aimed at protecting local
00:08heritage.
00:09Liverpool City Council seeking views on the future of Central Station with an emerging spatial regeneration framework setting out ambitious
00:17plans for new homes, jobs, public spaces and improved connections.
00:21The Council says the proposals could help create a stronger gateway into the city centre with public funding and potential
00:28private investment supporting the long-term vision.
00:31The engagement process is intended to help shape the next stages of the plans.
00:36Moving on to Liverpool's festive economy, the City Council is preparing to appoint operators for its Christmas markets for the
00:42coming years.
00:43The markets have previously attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors and plans include continued use of locations around St George's
00:50Hall and the pier ahead.
00:52A Council report says the event supports city centre footfall, tourism and local businesses during the festive period.
00:59The contracts are expected to be delivered without cost to the Council with operators responsible for running the markets.
01:06Meanwhile in Wirral, Council is considering options for the regeneration of Bebbington Road and New Ferry.
01:11The areas face challenges following the 2017 gas explosion and the wider pressures affecting high streets nationally.
01:18Three proposals have been put forward for the pedestrianised street, with the Council having allocated funding for the scheme.
01:24Public consultation showed strong support for a higher specification option, but officers have recommended a lower cost alternative, citing affordability,
01:35maintenance and long-term sustainability.
01:37Elsewhere, work's beginning on a new home for Birkenhead Market at the former TJ Hughes site in the Pyramid Shopping
01:43Centre.
01:44The move follows earlier plans to relocate the market to another town centre location.
01:49Wirral Council says construction and fit-out work will help create a modern market environment, while keeping traders at the
01:56heart of the project.
01:56Discussions with market traders are continuing as the detailed plans develop with the aim of bringing the market into a
02:02prominent town centre position.
02:05Finally, campaigners in Hartley Village are calling for improvements to protect and restore the historic community built around the former
02:12jam factory.
02:13The conservation area, created more than a century ago for workers at the factory, has seen parts of its original
02:19character disappear over time.
02:21Residents want improvements, including restored features, better pavements, traditional lighting and new green spaces.
02:30They say the ambition is to preserve the village as a living community, while recognising the challenges of securing funding
02:36for improvements.
02:38Across Merseyside, these projects show the different challenges facing regeneration, from attracting investment and supporting local economies, to protecting historic
02:47places.
02:49Decisions on funding, design and delivery will shape how these areas develop in the years ahead.
02:54And that is your round-up of the latest developments across the region.
