00:00Where are we headed?
00:02We're headed down to meet Patrick and Sheila.
00:04He's a professor at UMA of Architect,
00:06and their camp got flattened.
00:08Man, that storm.
00:09Freeze went right through it.
00:11That's where it was.
00:12So we'd like to replace it.
00:13Up onto the ladder.
00:14Beam falling on somebody.
00:15That would crush you in a hurry.
00:18Whoa.
00:18Whoa, whoa, hold on.
00:21All right, to that island and back.
00:24Ah!
00:26That way, just a hit.
00:27Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!
00:30Hello!
00:30Hello!
00:31Is he going to grade us?
00:40What a spot, huh?
00:42Yeah.
00:43And we're missing one.
00:44Yeah.
00:45Ashley is coming home from Spain as we speak.
00:48But we get to take the buggy out.
00:50I was waiting for the opportunity for two of us to take this out.
00:52There's not room for three.
00:53No, there's definitely not room for three.
00:55You, Chug, and I.
00:57Where are we headed?
00:58Today, we are back at beautiful Carbassee Lake without Ashley.
01:03Ashley is coming back on a plane.
01:06From Spain.
01:06From Spain.
01:07To Maine.
01:08Trying to beat the rain.
01:09And I'm sure she has complained.
01:12All right.
01:13Now we're headed down to meet Patrick and Sheila.
01:15They got a place up here a couple of years ago.
01:18And their camp got flattened by the storm in last December.
01:22Man, that storm.
01:23So it's been a year now we've been dealing with that storm.
01:25It's true.
01:26So he's a professor at UMA of architects.
01:29So he had designed this cabin.
01:32And I suppose we have plans.
01:34Oh, here we are.
01:41I might need a new alternator.
01:44How you doing?
01:45Hey guys.
01:46My name's Sheila Hansford.
01:48I'm Patrick Hansford.
01:49Are you neutral?
01:50Nope.
01:51I am now.
01:52At least it's light, buddy.
01:55Okay.
01:55Hey, are you over the hump?
01:57All right.
01:57So several years ago when we moved out to Maine.
01:59Nice to meet you.
02:00Nice meeting you.
02:01We bought a small camp on the lake.
02:03Hi, who's this?
02:04This is Hans.
02:05Hans.
02:06Hi, Hans.
02:06This is a beautiful spot.
02:08It's sort of nestled into the woods over here.
02:10Somebody take you down to the building site?
02:11Yeah.
02:12Unfortunately, the storm came through
02:13and two nice big trees went right through it
02:16and pushed off the foundation.
02:18Where was the camp sitting?
02:19So it was about right here where the stakes are.
02:21That's where it was.
02:22So we'd like to replace it.
02:24Going to elevate it this time
02:25on a concrete foundation.
02:26So we have storage for our kayaks
02:28and wake boards underneath.
02:30And then two bedrooms up
02:31with a full bath, open living space.
02:35A couple of decks so we can get this nice view.
02:37Awesome.
02:37Yeah.
02:38And you're an architect?
02:39I am.
02:39I've been designing projects for 38 years now.
02:43Look at that.
02:44We don't get to see that really often.
02:45Those are amazing.
02:47This is exciting.
02:49Do you want to open them now?
02:50Let's save them for later.
02:52Let's save them for the surprise.
02:53So did the plans come before the storm?
02:58Not really.
02:59I've been playing with a design for an aunt of mine,
03:02which she was still alive.
03:04It was a linear house like this with two bedrooms,
03:07except it was on a hill and overlooked a valley.
03:09And you've got a beautiful beach here.
03:11So you're going to honor her with this design
03:13and this view hopefully will make up for it.
03:15Yeah.
03:15Nice.
03:15Exactly.
03:16So what brought you to Maine?
03:18For my job, I decided to shift from the profession
03:21to become an architecture professor
03:23at the University of Maine at Augusta.
03:25Very nice.
03:25What I teach mostly is our integrated design program
03:29and sustainability.
03:30You guys can come see us sometime.
03:32Let's go back to school.
03:33Yeah.
03:34For exterior, any colors you guys like or don't like?
03:38We're not particularly married to any color.
03:40It could be any color on the outside of the house.
03:43Great.
03:43Yeah.
03:44And it's going to be three season cabin.
03:45Yeah.
03:46Mid-century modern type furniture.
03:48Not a lot of, you know, doodads and things like that
03:50around the house.
03:51Just keep it pretty simple.
03:53Should we be taking notes?
03:54Nah.
03:55That's awful.
03:55Ashley doesn't take notes.
03:56You don't take notes.
03:57Anything else?
03:58Yeah.
03:59We're going to be outside a lot on the porch, on the lake,
04:02and would love to have a doghouse where he could go
04:05and stay if he wants.
04:06Do we have plans for a doghouse?
04:08Not yet.
04:08Okay.
04:09That's all you guys.
04:11Yeah.
04:12So, complete new build, a two-bedroom camp
04:15with a foundation, storage space underneath.
04:18Really take advantage of the water views.
04:21What's your time frame to get the project completed?
04:24So, we're looking at probably April, May time frame.
04:27Okay.
04:27Six months, five months.
04:28Five months, about 20 weeks?
04:30Yes.
04:31Okay.
04:31And what do you have for a budget to put into this new construction?
04:35I would hope to keep it around $200,000.
04:38Okay.
04:39I do the design.
04:39She does the finance.
04:41That's how this works.
04:42Yeah.
04:43So, we've got plans, no keys.
04:44I think we've got everything we need.
04:46Good luck.
04:47Thanks a lot.
04:47Nice to meet you guys.
04:48Nice meeting you guys.
04:49See ya, Hans.
04:51I can barely hold these things away so much.
04:53First, we'll build a concrete foundation that can act as a storage.
04:57On top of that, we're going to build a two-bedroom, one-bathroom cabin with an open-concept kitchen
05:02and living room.
05:03We'll add two decks and lots of windows to let in natural light.
05:06We'll use heavy, exposed beams for the raptors and put a metal roof on top.
05:10We'll also put Ashley in charge of building a doghouse for Hans.
05:13Call the guys and we'll...
05:16Oh, God.
05:18We pushing?
05:20You think I can jump it?
05:21We can definitely push it, right?
05:23All right, push it.
05:23See if you can.
05:25We'll try to jump it.
05:34Jump!
05:42Let's go.
05:43Let's go.
05:43Let's go.
05:57Let's go.
05:58So things are looking good in the Hansford camp.
06:02The earthwork was fairly extensive.
06:07They dug down to bedrock, had to jackhammer a little bit of the bedrock out to get the
06:13footings in.
06:14The pipes are in to collect all the rainwater.
06:26Chilly winter's morning.
06:29A little bit of snow on the ground, but everything's frozen up solid.
06:41Earthwork and concrete work is finished up.
06:43It's all set, ready to go.
06:50And today the crew is getting started on framing.
06:56Step one is to put down all the pressure treated sill plates where the wood touches the concrete
07:01so that it doesn't rot out.
07:09And then it's building that front wall.
07:11It's going to be like a daylight basement, but just storage underneath.
07:19And then a matter of framing up the floor joist.
07:22Nail that place.
07:28I've never been here.
07:29I do need to do a little bit of research.
07:31That's the only reason I came today.
07:33No, today is to help get this first floor decked over.
07:36I don't do decking.
07:47Tell us about the place.
07:48So this camp was also destroyed during that last December storm.
07:52Mass 5 came down and crunched it.
07:54The goal today is to help the Brunchies get this first floor decked over.
07:58I also heard that they're interested in a dog house.
08:01Oh yeah, they want to.
08:02That's the only reason I came today.
08:03I need to know information.
08:04What kind of dog was it?
08:06How big is it?
08:07We don't have that information.
08:08Let's get to work.
08:09We're at the Hanson camp today.
08:11Nice view up here.
08:13It's cold.
08:14Ashley was not at that arrival because she was on a plane coming from Spain in the rain.
08:19There you go.
08:22But she's here now.
08:23I'll help you.
08:29There we go.
08:30And it's definitely not raining out.
08:32Nope.
08:32It's freezing.
08:34And we're just going every couple, Matty, because it's the only gun.
08:37They're going to go through and nail everything off.
08:43Coming right along here.
08:44We've got the floor about half-sheathed right now.
08:47We only have one working gun because every other one is frozen right now.
08:53I'm giving them some boards so we can get this project done.
08:56So we're just getting the floor laid down.
08:59And we're freezing.
09:01They'll come back when we have working warm guns.
09:04They'll snap some lines and they'll nail everything off.
09:07Give me those nails so I can break them apart.
09:10Here.
09:11Yeah, so we are down a gun.
09:15So I'm actually taking the nail gun nails apart so that then they can hammer them and tack the boards
09:22down until someone can come through with a gun.
09:30Teamwork makes the dream work.
09:34Dixie?
09:35Yeah?
09:35Are you having a fun time today?
09:36Oh, yeah.
09:37Having a great time.
09:38Jace?
09:39Great time?
09:41This is what it's like made in the winter.
09:44Look how beautiful the lake is, though.
09:45It's gorgeous out there.
09:48I have to go back to work.
09:50See ya.
09:56I don't like this one.
09:58That's the don't-not-like pile, then.
10:01Maybe I'll use this for my doghouse?
10:03Yeah.
10:03Perfect.
10:04Yeah, so when I was helping pick up boards for the floor, there were some that we couldn't use.
10:11See this right here?
10:13That would look bad on the floor.
10:15But the doghouses are smaller.
10:17So that's perfect for me because I can take those ones and use them for my doghouse.
10:20I need to get in contact with the homeowners.
10:22I need to meet this dog.
10:24I have to get to know his personality before I can build a house for him.
10:27Yeah, you know, I need to ask the dog, first of all, how big he is.
10:30If he, like, wants one-story, two-story, wants some windows.
10:34I mean, how big he wants his door, what color he likes, doesn't like.
10:37You can't just build a house and say, oh, here you go, dog.
10:40Does he want any decorations?
10:41Does he want a new dog bed?
10:42Does he want a dog pillow?
10:44Does he want, I don't know, what does he want?
10:46Does he want a dog feeding dish in there?
10:48Does he need a 10-inch door?
10:49Does he need a two-foot door?
10:52Don't make your dogs jealous doing all this.
10:54I can tell you that.
10:54Does he want curtains?
10:56Does he want pillows?
10:57Don't ever work with your wife and your brother-in-law if I give you any advice.
11:01What kind of colors does he like?
11:03What color is the dog?
11:05What kind is the dog?
11:07You need to cancel your arrivals and tell him off vacation next time.
11:13I think we're probably good.
11:15We're good!
11:16We're good!
11:16We're good!
11:17We're just about to put our last board down here.
11:20We've made a pretty good time.
11:23Money.
11:24We got some weather coming in.
11:26It's cold out.
11:27That was a nice little decking party.
11:29We're going to get out of here.
11:32Wrap it up.
11:36Nice job, guys.
11:37Like I said, they're only as good as a cut, guys.
11:39We did good.
11:41Looks great.
11:43Yeah, next step is walls.
11:45Sweet.
11:45We'll get those laid out and framed up, sheathed over.
11:49Then we'll know exactly what size roof rafters, because we're going to use some beefy beams.
11:54Nice work!
11:55Yeah, good job, guys.
11:56Looks really good.
11:57Let's go get warm.
11:58Pull them up.
11:59All right.
12:14We are on Cobb Sea Lake today at the Hansford Camp.
12:20Still winter, and walls are being framed up.
12:25Two by six walls.
12:26Front wall is going to be about 11 feet high.
12:30Back wall is eight foot.
12:31It's going to be a shed roof.
12:34Once the walls are all stood up, then it needs to be sheathed all the way around.
12:42And then we're going to go with the Belgrade siding and get it weathertight.
12:55Never thought I'd be going back to school, Ryan.
12:57We met Patrick.
12:58He invited us into class.
12:59What are we learning about?
13:01Architecture.
13:01Your brother's supposed to be here, but he's probably late, so let's go in and get a seat
13:05before he gets here.
13:06You can see here, Ryan's identified his ten measures.
13:11Looking at photo takes for energy.
13:13No reason why school would be any different than real life.
13:17I was on time for class, and Ashley and Ryan showed up late.
13:21Do you want to switch seats?
13:22Chase set us up.
13:23He probably brought the teacher at Apple.
13:25Has he always been the good kid?
13:26I got the bad more.
13:27He's just been the brown noser.
13:29How's it going?
13:30I'm glad you made it.
13:32Patrick, one of the cabin owners, invited us to come to the University of Maine in Augusta.
13:35He designed the plans for the cabin.
13:37We're getting ready to put on the roof, so we wanted to learn more about how it contributes
13:41to his eco-friendly design.
13:43Sorry.
13:43I haven't been to class in a long time.
13:45So, for those of us who are late to class today, we were talking about sustainability.
13:49So, in a recent project you guys are working on, there's a single-pitch roof where all the
13:54water will collect and then fall onto the ground, and in that area will be a gravel top that
13:59will allow the water to go down to a pipe and take it to a rain garden.
14:02The plants will use that water.
14:04Can we talk about overhangs?
14:07I love overhangs.
14:09I love overhangs.
14:12What size?
14:13A minimum of one foot.
14:15I'd like two, two and a half, personally.
14:17Is that student over there taking notes in the red shirt?
14:21You?
14:22Me?
14:22Is there like an Architecture 101 class?
14:25It is.
14:25I feel like I skipped a lot of classes.
14:28We're using mass timber in this project.
14:31Are you two passing notes?
14:33Stop it.
14:34You're going to get us too long.
14:35You can just give him the note.
14:36He can read my writing.
14:38It's Ryan.
14:39Let's go about the cool doghouse designs.
14:42You know, architects usually don't design doghouses.
14:44Having gone to this class and realizing that I'm actually building a doghouse for an architect,
14:50now there's pressure.
14:51Anybody got some spare time?
14:54Help me with a cool doghouse.
14:57There's always two in every class.
15:08Everything's coming along nicely at the Hansford Camp.
15:11Walls are up, sheathed in.
15:13Two decks on the front.
15:15Today we are going to work on raptors.
15:17They're going to be good-sized hemlock beams.
15:19And then we're ready for our roof, windows, and get this place closed in before we get too much more
15:24weather, hopefully.
15:28Good day to sled to work, Jedi.
15:30Great day for a wild ride to work.
15:32Beautiful main winter morning.
15:33We were told we just had to use our muscles today, so we didn't really need tools.
15:37It was a perfect day to take the sleds.
15:41Days cold, the sleds are hot.
15:45That was fun, Jedi.
15:48Well, they've come quite a ways on this.
15:50Yeah, they have.
15:52Let's go check with Chase, see what's up.
15:54Yeah, we've had enough fun this morning.
15:56For now.
15:59Sounds like you're getting tired.
16:01I know.
16:01Sorry we were late.
16:03We were having way too much fun.
16:05Good thing you had your fun already.
16:07These are those beans we were told about?
16:09Ryan said coffee and donuts while the crane shows up.
16:12You guys just showed up.
16:13With a crane?
16:15Today was pretty simple.
16:16Get 25 1,000 pound hemlock beams up on the roof as raptors.
16:21You guys are ready?
16:22And it took every one of us and then some.
16:25All right, set our end right on that ladder.
16:28Okay.
16:29Got to lift them up into the building and then also up onto the roof.
16:34Watch.
16:35Watch your pretty face.
16:39So we want to make sure that we're not going too fast so that nobody gets hurt.
16:43Pass up to Isaac, slide it that way and then two people grab it up there.
16:47It's all about foot time.
16:49Grab on baby.
16:53That one is extra heavy.
16:55Those are a long ways up there and they're really heavy.
16:58All right, so back.
17:00One, two.
17:01Baby, come back.
17:02Bean balling on somebody.
17:04That would crush you in a hurry.
17:05Up onto the ladder.
17:06All right.
17:07Back a little bit more.
17:08Oh, whoa.
17:09Whoa, whoa.
17:10Hold on.
17:14Back more.
17:16We can't get it.
17:17Just got to go back.
17:17There you go.
17:18Okay, hold on.
17:19There you go.
17:20Take a break.
17:20Just relax.
17:22Going on in a hurry.
17:22When it's that heavy, you're like, yeah, you feel it.
17:25Let's get right to the outside.
17:27Oh, got it.
17:30While I wait on that plank.
17:31These things are heavy.
17:32It's cold.
17:32It's frozen.
17:33Ten years ago, I would have been like, go, go, go, go.
17:35And I actually had to tell, like, our team had to chill it like five times today.
17:38So I was pretty impressed with myself.
17:39On three.
17:39One, two, three.
17:44Beautiful.
17:45Okay.
17:49Roll towards me, please.
17:50All right.
17:51Oh, it's beautiful.
17:53Running.
17:54All right.
17:54Slide her down.
17:55It fits.
17:55Oh, beautiful.
17:58Feel that.
17:59How do you fasten them?
18:01Nail gun and then Joyce screws up underneath them.
18:04All right.
18:04All right.
18:05All right.
18:06How many more?
18:10Can we slide this one over there so I can keep marking?
18:13Normally, you could put your layout on one yourself.
18:16You can flip it.
18:17I don't know if the star horse can handle more.
18:18Watch your toes.
18:20It took twice as many people to do everything.
18:22Oh, it took two people to do layout.
18:28It's done.
18:29Four of us might be able to get it.
18:30I don't know.
18:31What do you think?
18:31This one's a heavy one.
18:32We'll give it all.
18:33Yeah.
18:33The heavy ones took like six or seven of us to get them up in the window.
18:39Yeah.
18:39Yeah.
18:46Two people roll them over.
18:47To me, we're doing the Texas two-step.
18:52All right.
18:52One, two, three.
18:54Beautiful.
18:56I like watching our teams work though because I just get into a rhythm and it's repetition.
19:00Everyone just does things in repetition.
19:01You work a lot more efficiently.
19:15Whoa, guys.
19:18They're excited to get to the job.
19:20I'm here to scout out a location for where I can put the dog house.
19:24How are you, honey?
19:24How are you doing?
19:25Good.
19:26Place looks awesome, huh?
19:27These are nice.
19:28Yeah.
19:28It looks really good.
19:30These just came to love you guys and they're heavy.
19:31Just so you know.
19:32Because we need your muscle.
19:33Oh, yeah.
19:34I'm just a mirage.
19:37You don't really see me.
19:39I want to go see what's going on inside.
19:41Morning.
19:42We are just beaming this morning.
19:44The more handsome area.
19:45I can't see any help.
19:47Not with that attitude.
19:48This is not my scene.
19:49He needs help.
19:50Let's have a beam.
19:51See these muscles?
19:52You can't.
19:53Because there aren't any.
19:58Come on.
19:59I bet you didn't know that you had to go to work today, Brandy.
20:02This is a very important job, guys.
20:04We have to have a talk.
20:05So I missed Hans at the arrival, but I was able to go meet him the other day.
20:09So now I have an idea of, you know, how much space he's going to need.
20:13What his style is.
20:14What he's looking for in a dog house.
20:16Hey, Logan.
20:17We need to find a place for the dog house.
20:21We need to find the perfect spot for it.
20:23So I think that these guys are going to be able to help us.
20:25So my friend Logan has a week off from school.
20:27So he's here with his puppy, Brandy.
20:29Also brought along Trigger.
20:30His buddy, Ruben's here.
20:31What do you guys think?
20:32Where should the dog house go?
20:34Perfect people to help me out to go scouting for a dog house.
20:37What makes the perfect location for a dog house?
20:39Sunlight.
20:40Shade.
20:41A good view.
20:41I mean, this is like the million dollar view.
20:44This is going to be one lucky dog, huh?
20:46I think Trigger found the spot.
20:47Trigger, what do you think?
20:48You like this spot, Triggy?
20:50Show us.
20:51Yeah.
20:52Like right here.
20:52Oh, he's digging a hole already.
20:54Are you digging the foundation?
20:55I knew those dogs were going to be a help.
20:57They started rolling around and digging out the foundation.
20:59I think it's unanimous.
21:01I mean, couldn't ask for better helpers.
21:03Let's go get some treats.
21:05Good job, guys.
21:12We successfully picked out a place in the dog house.
21:15Not really much else for us to do.
21:17Hey, you guys need our help?
21:19I guess not.
21:20Nope.
21:20Let's go.
21:22The guys have a handle on the beams.
21:24They're heavy.
21:24I don't want anything to do with that.
21:26So Logan and I decided we were going to go for a ride.
21:35Oh, I want to race.
21:36I'll drop the ball if you guys need to go.
21:40All right, to that island and back when the ball drops.
21:43Ruben, sit.
21:43Watch the ball.
21:44Sit.
21:50Ah!
21:53You're going so fast!
21:56Ashley didn't stand a chance.
21:59Pretty much, Ryan dropped the flag,
22:02and Logan was halfway across the lake.
22:07Slow down!
22:07Wait for me!
22:09Honestly, for me, I thought I was going fast.
22:11I'll never get on the back of his sled.
22:15Come on, Ashley!
22:17It wasn't much of a race.
22:18I mean, she does have PTSD for being on snowmobiles
22:21and jet skis with this guy.
22:22I hate you!
22:23I hate you!
22:23I hate you!
22:23I hate you!
22:25Ah!
22:26Jedi!
22:27I might have tainted her on machinery.
22:30Victory!
22:30Victory!
22:33You smoked me!
22:37So 25 of them.
22:3825,000 pounds.
22:40Eight, twelve and a half.
22:41Twelve tons!
22:42That's a lot of wood.
22:44Solid, though.
22:45Nice job beating my sister.
22:47Ah!
22:51Let's go.
22:52Okay, let's get a hot suit.
23:03Today I'm scheduled to do a project with my wife.
23:05A special project for the Hansfin family.
23:08We're going to build a dog house.
23:10And special projects with Ashley and I don't always go the smoothest.
23:13There's a little tension.
23:15There's not necessarily plans.
23:16But I've been watching cooking shows and I realize they have everything prepped and ready to go.
23:20So I'm going to try to do that.
23:22Make it go smoother.
23:23We'll see.
23:23But the one thing she said is no pallets.
23:26Because I did build a dog house before and it was wicked heavy.
23:28But what she doesn't understand is that floor is already done.
23:30So there's an hour and a half.
23:31So we're starting with a pallet.
23:32And we're going to make it look exactly like the Hansfin camp.
23:35We have leftover materials, which is awesome.
23:37We'll see if I end up in the dog house.
23:40All I'm going to do is I'm going to rip down some pressure treated.
23:43Put it under these skids.
23:44That way it won't rot.
23:49I'm going to build one wall at 36.
23:51One at 48.
23:53It'll match the same shed roof that's at the Hansfin camp.
23:58Hello?
24:01Hi.
24:02Why are you laughing?
24:04Nope.
24:05What are you doing?
24:06I was trying to get everything prepped for you.
24:08Yeah.
24:09Thanks for joining us.
24:10We got the front wall laid out.
24:12The back wall laid out.
24:13We got the floor all done.
24:14What is this?
24:15This is the back wall.
24:16Okay.
24:16Tell me that's not the floor.
24:18That's the floor.
24:19Pallets are heavy.
24:20I want a small dog house.
24:21It's a big dog.
24:23No, it's not.
24:23I met the dog.
24:24Ryan and I have had many, many discussions about building this dog house.
24:28There were a few things that I insisted upon.
24:30By the time the dog gets in there.
24:32I know, but from moving it around and stuff.
24:34So I said, please keep it light.
24:36Don't over build it.
24:37You know, being a carpenter, he has a tendency to over build things.
24:41It's a dog house, guys.
24:42Part of it going to be a deck.
24:43Oh, we can do it.
24:44I like that.
24:45Yes.
24:45Come here.
24:45Hold this.
24:46I love it.
24:46A deck.
24:46A dog deck.
24:47I mean, this is a huge.
24:48Yeah.
24:48A little overhang.
24:49See, that's why we work together.
24:51High five.
24:52Trigger.
24:53You need to distract your mom for a while.
24:55I'm not sure if we had...
24:57Really?
24:58I'm doing this for your people.
24:59I'm building a dog house.
25:01I would be happy if I had a bunch of it already pre-done for you.
25:06No?
25:08Oh, that came together nicely.
25:10Oh, he's not listening.
25:11A good dog owner builds a dog house big enough for him and his dog.
25:15Because we all know we've been there before.
25:19All right.
25:20Now we get a cut.
25:22Why, Trigger?
25:23Why?
25:25Ryan did a couple things that I asked.
25:32He got the siding that we used at the camp that was left over.
25:36And he got the roofing.
25:38He had to put the rafters in to match the house.
25:42Ask any boys.
25:43Let's go.
25:45Too long and one short.
25:46I'm glad you care about this.
25:48Okay.
25:50We ended up working through our issues.
25:58Once it started taking shape,
26:00we came up with a pretty great dog house that Hans is going to love.
26:03Okay, I will admit it looks great.
26:06Can you say that again?
26:07I'll admit it looks great.
26:08But you have to admit that it's going to be heavy.
26:10It's going to be heavy.
26:11It's building.
26:12Just say it nicely.
26:13I'll admit it's going to be very heavy.
26:14It's going to be heavy.
26:15Okay.
26:16And I'm going to promise something.
26:17You don't have to pick it up.
26:18To finish up, we have to get a roof on it.
26:20And then I have a nice sign to hang up on it.
26:22Hans.
26:23It's almost done.
26:24All right.
26:24Perfect.
26:25Thanks for your help.
26:27Can you say that again?
26:28Thanks for your help.
26:44Making the rounds today.
26:45I'm at the Hansford cabin checking on the crew.
26:48You know, the exterior is looking really good.
26:49We've got a couple doors to do downstairs.
26:53On the inside, they have the new LP timber insulation op.
26:57Christine and crew over here are starting to put the pine up.
27:00They're throwing the pine at it.
27:01So, it's go, go, go.
27:04I wish either.
27:06Next thing will be floors.
27:11Can I get one at 80 and a half?
27:24Is it a dogfish?
27:26Oh.
27:27Oh.
27:29Hello?
27:30Hey, come here.
27:31Back up.
27:31Pull right in.
27:32There's a week left in the Hansford camp.
27:33The guys are here.
27:35There's a couple small things that need to get done.
27:38Going over there.
27:39Remember, I scouted out a great spot for it.
27:41Ryan is backing his truck in and delivering the doghouse.
27:44Come towards me.
27:46Turn it.
27:47Turn it.
27:48Ah, yeah.
27:49Let's put it right there.
27:50Stop.
27:51Hey, we need your muscles.
27:53Yeah, I had an easy day today.
27:54I had one job.
27:55Finish up the doghouse that Ashley and I started last week.
27:58It's going right here, right?
27:59Yeah.
27:59Perfect.
28:00Get it here safely.
28:02Get it offloaded.
28:03All right, tell me when.
28:05Looks real light.
28:07That way, just a hair.
28:10That way, just a hair.
28:11Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
28:13There we go.
28:21Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
28:24There we go.
28:25There we go.
28:28Oh my gosh.
28:30Everybody okay?
28:31I don't know what happened.
28:32The doghouse came flying out.
28:34Hey, you guys.
28:38That's why you make it heavy duty.
28:40That is built solid.
28:42I do remember my wife kind of complaining, why are you building it like this?
28:46What happened?
28:47What happened?
28:48You happened.
28:49She looks beautiful.
28:50And it barely even got dented, so that's why we do it that way.
28:55That's why you build them the way we build them.
28:58Done and done.
28:59The dog wants a view of the lake, right?
29:00Kind of matches, doesn't it?
29:02It definitely matches.
29:03Mm-hmm.
29:03I don't know if it was supposed to be lightweight or not, but it's built solid.
29:06Luckily, he didn't listen to me.
29:08What else is left inside?
29:09Cabinets are in place.
29:10We've got a drop in the countertop.
29:12It's a drop in cooktop.
29:15Francis should be here in a little while with a bottom step and some crushed stone to bring that level
29:19up there.
29:19That's it.
29:20Really?
29:21I think so.
29:22All right, so I'll stay in this.
29:23Perfect.
29:24All right, cool.
29:31Things are looking great at the Hansford camp.
29:36Interiors pretty much wrapped up.
29:38Pined.
29:39Nice big ceilings.
29:41Big windows overlooking the lake.
29:43Dead Eye and Dixie were working on the countertop for the kitchen.
29:46It's all yours, Douglas.
29:48Appliances in place.
29:49You've got a closet.
29:51Bathroom right there.
29:53And then you've got a second bedroom here with a nice private deck out looking over the water.
30:03Good thing I brought extra stain.
30:05Now that the doghouse is safely off the truck.
30:07Where do I stop?
30:08That's the question.
30:09I mean, I would go as far as you can see it.
30:11Ryan has some staining to finish up.
30:14World's Where Us Painter.
30:15You reporting?
30:16I'm coming, Ryan.
30:16Just give me a minute.
30:19You know, maybe in the future we'll be the Kennevec Dog Cabin Company.
30:24Pretty funny.
30:25I'm pretty funny.
30:28Now it looks just like the cabin.
30:31Remember that time you said, why are you building it like that?
30:33Why are you building it?
30:34Yeah, I do.
30:35Why did you make it so sturdy?
30:37I did not say that.
30:38You did.
30:39I said, why are you making it so heavy?
30:40Why are you overbuilding that?
30:42Because I know how I drive.
30:43Well, most doghouses don't fall off trucks.
30:45Actually, I've had two fall out of the back of my truck in the last couple months.
30:49Are you happy?
30:51Yes.
30:52You could be out of the doghouse.
30:54Why?
30:54Why are you building it so strong?
30:56Why are you doing that?
30:57Why are you putting on a pedal?
30:58You could be dead.
31:04Francis.
31:05Oh, Francois.
31:06Stay in one spot.
31:07I forgot again.
31:08Francis the Great.
31:09Brits showed up today with some crushed stone and flat rock.
31:17The guys had built the stairs.
31:19There's still a little bit of a, too big of a step down.
31:22Scraped back some of the erosion control mulch.
31:24Filled it in.
31:25You know, a good base with the crushed stone.
31:30I'm just gonna flop it, okay?
31:32Okay.
31:34Splash.
31:35Set the rock.
31:36Flip it and reverse it.
31:39And then kind of fanned it out around it.
31:47Yeah, that's yours.
31:48This was super helpful.
31:55Test fit it.
31:57Ta-da.
31:58Sinking stove.
31:59We're really cooking with this bad boy.
32:01Let's go fishing.
32:02Yep.
32:03Do it.
32:22That would work.
32:23That would be cute.
32:25Okay.
32:27Spring is here.
32:28The black flies are here.
32:30The black flies are here.
32:30My team and I have been able to get it all ready to go.
32:33I'm super excited to grab all the flowers, bring some life into it, lighten it up.
32:39We'll just pull off those colors, right?
32:41We brought in lots of color.
32:43It looks so great with all the wood.
32:46I really, really love this place.
32:48It's ready to go.
32:53Chase.
32:54Chase, Chase, Chase.
32:56I'm ready, ready, ready.
32:58It looks so good in there.
33:00Did you bring the sign for the doghouse?
33:03Yes, ma'am.
33:04We had 20 weeks and $200,000 to get this camp finished up and they're going to love it.
33:14That looks good.
33:15Perfect.
33:16Hans.
33:17You know who else is going to love it?
33:18Hans.
33:18Not only are they getting a beautiful camp, but Hans is getting his own little camp.
33:23Hope you like it.
33:25Nothing left to do.
33:26Let's go meet him.
33:27Let's go.
33:34Is he going to grade us?
33:35Yeah.
33:36Oh, probably.
33:37Well, we have to grade him.
33:38I give him an A.
33:40I really like the design.
33:42That looks great, doesn't it?
33:43So is this what you envisioned?
33:45It's exactly what I envisioned.
33:47It's just gorgeous.
33:48I love the color.
33:49Hello!
33:51It looks great.
33:52When I came up to the camp and I saw the building, I was just really surprised.
33:56He's all excited.
33:58The colors that they picked, the siding they picked.
34:00Welcome back.
34:01How are you?
34:01Good to see you again.
34:03It's beautiful.
34:03You got all dressed up again for us.
34:05He is.
34:06All bathed and dressed up.
34:07You look great.
34:08It looks fantastic.
34:09It looks great.
34:10I love the decks.
34:11Because that's where I'll be.
34:14So this was a fun project.
34:16Pretty straightforward build.
34:17The guys definitely appreciated having sets of plans.
34:21That made it a lot easier.
34:22Didn't have to field quite as many questions.
34:24We had an excavation company come in and do all the groundwork.
34:29Luckily got that all done before the ground froze up.
34:33And they put down all the erosion control mulch.
34:35The pipes are in to collect all the rainwater.
34:38And you'll put in the plants down the line.
34:40We went with a Belgrade siding with a darker stain.
34:46Really large windows on the water side.
34:48At first I questioned all the little windows on the back side.
34:52Put them in and it makes all the difference in the world.
34:54Just walking in and then also just with the air flow.
34:57In the summertime it'll just have a nice breeze through there.
35:00You know that's part of the issue of sustainability.
35:02You know where we're not always turning on the air conditioning.
35:05Right.
35:06You know and to be able to open up and get that fresh air.
35:08Well especially when you're right on the lake.
35:10Yeah.
35:10I mean take advantage of that breeze.
35:12Exactly.
35:13Green metal roof.
35:15Plenty of storage underneath.
35:17Perfect.
35:17We have storage for our kayaks.
35:19Great job.
35:20It's funny trying to describe it to the person who designed it.
35:23Right.
35:24As I told you early on it was killing me not to be able to come see it.
35:27Good buildings take a good architect, good client and a good builder.
35:32We had a good builder.
35:33I don't know about the architect and the client.
35:35I do.
35:36Those planes were very easy to work off from.
35:38It's gorgeous.
35:38Great.
35:40I can't wait to see the views from inside.
35:42Yes.
35:42That's really what it's all about.
35:44Let's head on in.
35:45Come on.
35:46Let's go.
35:46Come on buddy.
35:47Head on inside.
35:49Go check it out.
35:51Oh it smells.
35:53Smells like a new build.
35:54Wow.
35:55Check out the bedroom.
35:57Oh it's beautiful.
35:58It's perfect.
36:01This is great.
36:03Look at this.
36:07The openness.
36:08This is great.
36:09Right?
36:10Wow.
36:11I see what you said about the windows.
36:13Yes.
36:14Yes.
36:14I mean I love the layout.
36:16It's so open.
36:17The kitchen's like perfect.
36:18Simple, clean lines.
36:20It's great.
36:21I mean I think we're really going to enjoy it.
36:23Having one big open room.
36:26You've got bedroom on each end so you've got privacy there.
36:29But just the high ceilings, the big windows, the cross windows for the cross ventilation.
36:36I think it works well.
36:38I love the floors.
36:40Lots of pine.
36:40You know pine floors.
36:42Just we like our pine.
36:44We like our pine.
36:45But then we also wanted to break it up you know with some nice colored furniture.
36:48I love the furniture.
36:49I mean it'd be like what I would pick out.
36:52Somebody likes it.
36:53Somebody's happy.
36:55It was perfect for the space.
36:57Feel free to check out the other bedroom, the bathroom.
37:00Good sized bathroom in there.
37:03Very nice.
37:06Come on Hans.
37:07This is great.
37:09Look at this.
37:10I know.
37:10You have this nice bedroom with the porch off.
37:13I love the doors.
37:14I love the doors to the deck.
37:16And you can leave the doors open from the bedroom and you can hear the water.
37:20Which is very nice.
37:21You want to go check out your deck?
37:23Yes.
37:24Definitely.
37:25What do you think Hans?
37:27What a view.
37:28Wow.
37:30The view is just framed by the pines.
37:33You have to take the credit for it.
37:35I think we all can.
37:37I think it's important to share credit.
37:39What credit's due.
37:40Absolutely.
37:40I wasn't the one swinging a hammer or lifting those beams in the dead of winter.
37:44I think the decks create that additional living space outside.
37:48The views that they capture, the additional space where you can gather with family and friends.
37:54It's just beautiful.
37:55All right.
37:56Well, we have one more thing to show you.
37:57Well, well, more like we have one more thing to show Hans.
38:00Hans, you want to go check out your dog house?
38:02Are you excited?
38:03Let's head on out.
38:05I think I'm looking forward to waking up in the morning and being able to sit out on
38:08the deck and have a cup of coffee.
38:10Your big reveal.
38:12Your big reveal.
38:12It's all about you, buddy.
38:13I think they hit everything on our wish list.
38:16Does it have a deck?
38:17It does.
38:19Look at your house.
38:20Look at your house.
38:21What's in there, Hans?
38:23Oh, there you go.
38:26What do you think?
38:28I think he likes the porch.
38:29He wants the sun.
38:30Yes, exactly.
38:30He wants to get some sun on his porch.
38:33He loves his house.
38:34He especially loves the deck.
38:35Who knew that dogs like decks?
38:37But he loved the deck.
38:39I mean, it's a great little house.
38:41Great that it matches the house.
38:42I appreciate everything you've done.
38:44We had a lot of fun with this project.
38:46Again, it was great having a set of plans.
38:49When we first got here, it was a vacant lot.
38:51You told a story how there was a camp here, but some of the pines, you know, in that last
38:56storm.
38:57Pretty much destroyed it.
38:59And, you know, it's a great design.
39:01Two decks and...
39:03Three decks.
39:03Three decks.
39:04I know.
39:05Look at the view.
39:05Look at the view he has.
39:08Each of us will have our own deck.
39:10That's correct.
39:1120 weeks and $200,000 for this project.
39:15And I think, yeah, we got it all completed.
39:18It's perfect timing because tomorrow is actually my birthday.
39:20Oh, perfect.
39:21Well, there we go.
39:22Perfect timing.
39:23Give him his birthday present.
39:23Well, yeah, all right.
39:24Well, here.
39:25Happy birthday.
39:26Thank you very much.
39:28Absolutely.
39:29You guys enjoy all your decks and the whole...
39:32It's great.
39:32Thank you so much.
39:33Don't visit any time.
39:34Okay, we will.
39:35Bye, Hans.
39:36They did an excellent job.
39:37My Aunt Gert, she thinks it's beautiful.
39:39Let's go in.
39:40I really like the things that they added to it.
39:42Just thank you for all the quality work that they did, working through a really harsh winter.
39:46And I think Hans is very happy with his wish list getting hit.
39:50Thank you, Captain Masters!
39:52Walk in real soon.
39:52Wow.
39:52To be enjoying it again.
39:53Bye.
39:53Bye.
39:53Bye.
