Transcript
00:00While all the celebrations ended Tuesday night for most, it has just begun for the Lost Tribe as they are
00:06celebrating Band of the Year title, the fourth consecutive one at that.
00:11We spoke to Val Miki Maharaj to hear his thoughts on the whole thing. Here's more.
00:16I mean, every time you achieve not only a win in terms of the carnival, but a win in life,
00:22it's kind of a push to go forward, you know.
00:24It's not necessarily another win, it's another movement in life it takes. It's another phase, and that's how we kind
00:30of feel about it here.
00:31This was a circus. It was particularly special for us because it gave us as a brand, as a band
00:37of creatives, the opportunity to be able to celebrate the heritage that, you know, walked so we could run.
00:41Everything that we were inspired by to be able to create these sections this year, to parallel the circus theme
00:46itself, came from a space that happened so that the carnival today could exist in its own way.
00:52That made this win even particularly more special because we didn't win the win.
00:56You know, the traditional characters won the win. The heritage and the story that developed those characteristics won the win.
01:02In our presentation, a big part of the messaging and the scripting itself was to say that you may see
01:09us as characters, we may perform on a stage in front of you, but we are you.
01:13And they literally held up a mirror to the crowd, and I hope that our messaging came across to people.
01:17I wouldn't say that it's necessarily a goal, but what I would say is if it's in front of me,
01:21I'm going to go for it, 100%.
01:23You know, I mean, I respect the people who came before me. I've said this so many times before, I
01:27never thought in my life I would ever be in the same room or conversations to these legends that were
01:32before us.
01:33This year we had an event called Fat Yard Legends Ball, and being able to even bring out or be
01:39in the same space of our event as Minchal Costumes was huge for me.
01:43Far less to say that I am in a space that he was once at. I think it's beyond my
01:49comprehension right now.
01:50So we're outside here at the Mass Comfort Tribe, the Lost Tribe, where the energy is high, it is filled
01:57with so much people celebrating this win.
02:00And well, that's all from my side. I'm Rochelle Edwards. Back to you, Disha.
02:04I'm Rochelle Edwards. Back to you.
