AccuWeather's Geoff Cornish breaks down the positive effects from all the recent snow in the Sierra.
Transcript
00:00Over the past several days, the Central Sierra Snow Lab has reported five feet of new snow,
00:05and it continues to come down late this week.
00:08So the Sierra snow has been incredibly helpful when it comes to water supply.
00:13The snowpack has increased by between 10 and 25 percent over the past week.
00:20It varies a little bit.
00:21In the south, southern Sierra, we're back up to average, 94 percent of where we should be for this point
00:27on the calendar.
00:27In the central Sierra, we're still a little shy.
00:30We're at 70 percent of average, about a 30 percent shortcoming, but it's still snowing.
00:34We've got more coming into next week.
00:35In the northern Sierra, we're around half of average, but with every passing day, the additional snow is beneficial.
00:42When it comes to the reservoir levels, we're doing really well.
00:45All primary California reservoirs are above average.
00:48That's really a product of several good water years with above-average snow and rain in recent winters.
00:55We're going to see the payoff into the reservoirs from this winter coming up.
00:58We do get a break for Friday and for Saturday, but moving forward, we're getting right back into a very
01:03stormy stretch Sunday night,
01:06Monday and Tuesday of next week with a barrage of Pacific storms kind of resuming as a storm drops south
01:11from the Gulf of Alaska
01:12and then pivots and sends some heavy rain and mountain snow mainly into central and northern California Sunday night, Monday
01:19and Tuesday.
