00:00John McClain, the Hall of Famer, and I'm bad to the bone.
00:03I will be, there you go.
00:05Let me get in your way here.
00:08Sports Radio 610 presents The Drive with Sterner and Qplay.
00:17As we've been talking, a lot of, a good amount of C.J. Stroud, look out.
00:27Not saying he will get traded, but saying, like, teams are checking in, are calling the Texans,
00:34and this isn't just a situation like if people called in Washington and they would just hang up,
00:42or people called in New England and they would just hang up.
00:45This is also being reported by, and again, like, this isn't just anybody's, like, on Twitter reporting that or up
00:54-to-comers.
00:54This is Albert Breer and Todd McShay, and Hill, I think last week we talked about Fitzpatrick.
01:02Like, these are guys that, especially when you talk about Albert Breer and Todd McShay,
01:05these guys are working through the draft, working through the league.
01:08They're well-connected.
01:09So, this isn't just stuff that they are just guessing and pulling out of their ass.
01:13You know, one of the things that sticks to me is, and maybe I dig into this stuff more than
01:19I should,
01:19but, like, we've heard Ryan Fitzpatrick matter-of-factly bring up moving C.J. Stroud two different times now,
01:28one immediately after the playoff exit, and then again randomly a couple of days ago, right?
01:34Maybe late last week, whatever it was.
01:35The part in all of that, now, I like what Ryan Fitzpatrick brings to the table.
01:40When you're working TV like that, you're in the know of a lot of things,
01:44sitting in rooms with coaches and general managers and players and covering the game closer
01:50on a league-wide basis than most of us, right?
01:53So, I respect his opinion, you know, generally speaking in NFL circles.
01:59Now, the part of it that I think really speaks volumes is how Andrew Whitworth seems to be
02:12kind of just sitting quietly aside and going along with it.
02:16Like, that's a former offensive lineman that played – I know he – I mean, didn't he win one with
02:21Stafford?
02:22Yep.
02:26He's the kind of guy, again, being in the game, playing the game, winning one, playing with a great,
02:31playing with a future Hall of Famer, you know, playing in a system where it's driven by the quarterback.
02:39If this thing didn't have real legs, I would think that Andrew Whitworth would be the first one to be
02:44like,
02:44hey, man, wait a minute now.
02:45You're talking about – you're talking about a franchise quarterback here.
02:48You're talking about a guy that has shown the ability to be as good as anybody in the league.
02:53Wait a minute.
02:54Like, him sitting quietly, you know, in those conversations are – that's interesting to me.
03:02That is an interesting reality.
03:05And for me, and I want to make it clear, my thought is when you say has legs –
03:09because I think when you start to have guys like that report on it, it's not just like,
03:14all right, here, man, only we're just going to come up with some sort of off-season conversation, right?
03:19I think the legs – where the legs for me that I think are very, very real is I think
03:24teams are calling
03:27Nick Casario, D'Amico, and at this point we're talking about a player like that, the McNairs.
03:32I think they're calling the Texans, and I think they're calling the Texans thinking they have a –
03:39there's a potential realistic price to get it done, right?
03:43Like, I think they're calling the Texans not just to call to see.
03:47I think they're calling the Texans because they think there's a chance.
03:51Now, where I don't know if there are legs is I don't know if the Texans are like there's a
03:56chance.
03:56I don't know from their end.
03:58Like, I would think that the Texans are like, hey, we drafted C.J. Stroud.
04:03This has been one of our guys.
04:04Like, I think they love C.J. Stroud.
04:07I would assume that.
04:11But I do think it is very real when you hear from guys like that teams believe there is a
04:17potential of him being available.
04:19That's what I said.
04:20Like, I don't think teams are calling Washington thinking there's a real chance that they can get Daniels.
04:25Like, I don't know that – I don't think that.
04:27But I'm not sure that they think they can get him.
04:30But I think they think there's a – this is a real conversation.
04:34This ain't just a BS conversation.
04:35Now, I don't know if the Texans, you know, believe the same thing.
04:39Well, look, I think – I think it could be – it could likely be – the leak, if you
04:45will, could be coming from either party.
04:48I've said this before.
04:49I think the Texans, the way that they're wired and what they want to look like on offense,
04:55it is very possible that they view moving on from C.J.
05:03as a route moving forward for the Texans to get better.
05:08I think it's very possible that C.J. Stroud views the opportunities that are abound in the NFL right now
05:18as opportunities to move on with a fresh start and be in a system that's a little bit more quarterback
05:24friendly
05:24to C.J. Stroud stylistically to what he does well.
05:29I could see that.
05:31You know, the reality of it is, is there's a lot – right now the Texans have a handful of
05:36organizations over a barrel.
05:38If you're an organization that has just struggled over and over and over again to find your guy
05:45and you're super quarterback needy right now, you're probably going to give up whatever the hell the Texans want
05:50to have a shot at a guy like C.J. Stroud.
05:53And so, look, I think from –
05:56But this situation is different from the last time the Texans were in this.
06:00Like they were wanting to move on from Deshaun Watson for multiple reasons.
06:05Oh, yeah.
06:05I don't know that – I don't know that they're wanting to move on from C.J. Stroud.
06:12That's the thing.
06:13I don't – I think it's different in that.
06:14Yeah, they could command a ton from the Jets or the, you know, whatever team.
06:20Cardinals.
06:21Cardinals, yeah, there's several of them.
06:23You know, the Steelers.
06:24They could command a lot.
06:26But I think – I still don't know that the Texans see this.
06:29Because the Texans could see this and be like, no, C.J. is our dude.
06:33Like that's where we're going.
06:34We're not ready to – we're not ready to give up on this yet.
06:38But I do think it's – I do think it's some – I do think that somebody feels that they
06:44–
06:46that there is an opportunity there.
06:48Because they're not talking about any of the other young quarterbacks like this
06:51that they can just roll out.
06:53People think there's an opportunity to get Burrow.
06:55That's why that name keeps coming up.
06:57But here's the – the one thing – the one thing that I feel like is absolutely not happening,
07:04I don't think either party, C.J. and his representation,
07:07or the Texans are sitting there going, nope, this is it.
07:11This – we're going – we're standing pat.
07:12C.J.'s our guy.
07:14Houston is my destination.
07:16No matter what happens, I'm staying – I'm staying put right here.
07:18You cannot tell me that the Texans, again, wired the way that they are,
07:24are not concerned, disappointed, having to make a tough decision
07:29with their quarterback situation moving forward.
07:31Whether it's a C.J. decision or it's a $60 million a year cap hit decision.
07:36However you want to look at it, you can't tell me the Texans are sitting there going,
07:38man, we're super comfortable with this right here.
07:40Let's just ride.
07:41And if you're C.J. Stroud and his representation,
07:43you can't tell me that C.J. Stroud is sitting over there going,
07:46man, I'm going to take all this on the chin, I'm going to go back into Nick
07:49Caley's system and see if I can't make this work.
07:52Like, is he willing?
07:53Yeah, sure.
07:54I'm not saying he's going to force himself out.
07:56But you can't tell – for either party, this is not a slam dunk.
08:00Yeah.
08:01It is very likely that C.J. Stroud and Moolageta could see,
08:06hey, man, the grass is greener on the other side.
08:11And likewise with the Texans.
08:13So, I mean –
08:14Especially if they get wind that this is coming from the Texans.
08:16Oh, yeah.
08:18The reality of it is, is this is a very, very difficult situation to be in,
08:25I think, for both parties.
08:27And we're living in a day and age where teams will move on
08:29and players will request trades.
08:30So, it's even – you know, in 2026, who knows?
08:35By the way, Tyler, John McClain, the general Hall of Famer,
08:38if C.J. Stroud is traded, I'll, quote, walk down Kirby naked.
08:44Oh.
08:44At rush hour.
08:45Is anyone else willing to do it if he's not traded?
08:49Didn't think so.
08:50He's raising the risk for me in that newspaper.
08:52Again, John McClain, if C.J. Stroud is traded,
08:55I'll walk naked down Kirby drive at rush hour.
08:59Hey, I'm telling you.
09:01T. Mill, you on Kirby and rush hour?
09:03Oh, yeah.
09:04It sucks.
09:04I've been stuck at Kirby and rush hour.
09:06Miss that entrance ramp and get up there on Kirby?
09:08I mean, that is – folks are going to get long looks.
09:12Probably be a couple people get rear-ended, too.
09:14Folks are going to get good long looks at old McClain naked if this happens now.
09:19It'll go viral.
09:20Oh, absolutely.
09:21Oh, there's no question.
09:22The question is what would be visible.
09:24Yep.
09:24I'll do a live report from where it is on the air, live.
09:30YouTube, live.
09:34We could do a live broadcast from the corner down there the day it's supposed to happen.
09:37Yeah.
09:38Yep.
09:38We'll do it live.
09:39We will be live, set up, the desk and everything.
09:41Hey, there's a Walgreens on that corner.
09:43I hit it all the time now.
09:44Or is it CVS?
09:45Yeah, all of our – all our engineers will be there.
09:47Aaron, Matt.
09:48Matt.
09:49Matt.
