00:00Nick Casario is obviously in Indy at the Combine doing his thing
00:04and making the rounds, and he was on with Pat McAfee.
00:10And the big thing that we know, like it's becoming clear, Clint,
00:16they not only came to go look at the different prospects
00:21and see everything about these young kids coming into the NFL
00:24to get ready for the draft, but in many, many cases,
00:29teams come in and they almost create speaking points
00:33of what the hell they want to get accomplished verbally at the Combine.
00:40And it is clear to me what they've accomplished
00:42and what they're wanting to get across.
00:45And they want to get across about how they feel about C.J. Stroud.
00:49And at every turn, and I'm not saying he's doing it without being asked about it
00:54because it's one of the top things people are coming at Nick Casario about.
00:59But he has the same kind of talking points
01:02and the same clear statement about C.J. Stroud.
01:06And Clint, he did it again.
01:08He did it again with Pat McAfee at the Combine
01:12when talking about C.J. Stroud and his future.
01:15I mean, honestly, you try not to pay too much attention to it,
01:18but if you feel like you have to address something
01:20and felt like that was the appropriate thing to do,
01:22I mean, he's our quarterback.
01:23He's played a lot of good football for us, to your point.
01:25He's had some good games.
01:26He's had some games where, like all of us, I mean,
01:28there's some ups and downs, things you have to deal with.
01:30So, glad he's our quarterback, and, you know,
01:32glad he's going to be here for next season, and we want him here.
01:35And I think all players learn.
01:37I don't want to speak for you guys, but, you know,
01:38after each season, go back, what are some of the things that did well?
01:40What are some of the areas you can improve on?
01:42I think sometimes when you just accentuate the negative
01:44and you're just taking up a microcosm of one particular game,
01:48look, we didn't play our best game.
01:49The Patriots played better than we did, and that's the way it goes.
01:51So, I mean, all of us in the offseason are trying to improve,
01:53trying to find ways and things that we can do better,
01:55and that's where the focus is going to be.
01:58All right.
01:59They've made it very clear C.J. Stroud is our guy this year.
02:04Next season.
02:05Next season.
02:05Dot, dot, dot.
02:06Heck, damn.
02:07That is, like, at first, I thought it was they wanted to get across
02:12that C.J. Stroud is our quarterback.
02:14But they want to get across that C.J. Stroud is our quarterback this season
02:19and not beyond because they've said it.
02:22He's said it that way every time, whether it be with the media as a whole,
02:27whether it be with Aaron Wilson, whether it be with Landry,
02:30the local groups, Pat McAfee, Vandy, no matter.
02:35They have made that very, very clear.
02:37Yeah.
02:38Look, I commend Nick Cacera.
02:39I said it yesterday.
02:40I love the fact that he's being a little bit more transparent.
02:43I mean, he came right out and said Nick Caley was going to be here next year.
02:46I mean, on that Pat McAfee sit-down right there, I mean, he literally said that,
02:52you know, basically, I'm paraphrasing, that some things need to be addressed,
02:57and that led me to believe what he was talking about needing to be addressed
03:00was the C.J. Stroud situation.
03:03And, again, I appreciate him feeling the need to address it
03:06because I think most of the time Nick Cacera would come in
03:09and just kind of soft-shoe it and beat around the bush and move on.
03:15But it is.
03:16I think it's pretty clear that they wanted to get out in front of this thing
03:19and let everybody know C.J. Stroud's not getting traded
03:22and in a roundabout way let everybody know that they're happy to have C.J. Stroud
03:26for at least one more year.
03:28That's the interesting point.
03:30When you, you know, Pat McAfee introducing, we love C.J. Stroud.
03:34I know y'all love C.J. Stroud.
03:35You're excited about the future of C.J. Stroud.
03:37And it's kind of like the – and rightfully so, by the way,
03:42but the options for the messaging of the quarterback at this point in time
03:50after three years could be, no, this is our quarterback long-term.
03:55This is our guy.
03:56We're going to get a contract worked out.
03:58We're in the middle of negotiating things.
04:00They could have kept just saying, this is our guy.
04:02Yeah, but what I'm saying is there could be – not that there should be,
04:07but there's an option there of C.J.'s our guy.
04:11We're going to work – we're working on a contract extension.
04:13We're going to get that thing.
04:14None of this – this stuff doesn't always happen real quick.
04:17It may take some time, but we're going to get this deal done.
04:20C.J.'s our guy.
04:21He's the face of our program.
04:23He is – he's who we're going to ride or die with.
04:27And instead, the message you're getting is C.J. Stroud is our quarterback.
04:31We're looking forward to it and excited about it for one more year.
04:33That is – it's an interesting reality.
04:38I mean, Knicks – hell, it makes sense.
04:40It's exactly where I'd want – it's exactly where I want my organization
04:43to be with C.J. Stroud.
04:44But they're making it clear.
04:46They could just – he could literally say, C.J.'s our guy.
04:50That doesn't mean – that could mean a lot.
04:53He's our guy.
04:54He's our guy for a long time.
04:54But he's not only saying he's our guy.
04:56He's making it clear every time, the time frame in which he is our guy.
05:01Well, I – he's not – I mean, he's a smart dude.
05:03I mean, I think there's a level of communicating through the media, right?
05:08I mean, I don't think that there's any coincidence that he's going to the combine
05:11and he is in-depth addressing the C.J. Stroud situation.
05:15Like, hey, I mean, I think he's a calculated guy.
05:20He's not saying what he's saying for Pat McAfee.
05:23He's not saying what he's saying for you and me.
05:25I mean, there is a – hey, C.J., we love you, man.
05:28We like you, but we ain't committing no more than one more year to you.
05:31I mean, that's the message loud and clear from the organization, I believe.
05:37And now that's holding your position in a negotiation.
05:42Even if there's a negotiation going on right now for a contract extension,
05:45you still got to hold strong to your side of it and let the opponent –
05:49let the person sitting across the desk know how you feel and where you stand.
05:53And I think it – I mean, I just don't believe that Nick Casario
05:57is just by chance happens to keep saying one more year.
06:00No.
06:00Or alluding to one more year or next year or this – you know, that's –
06:05So, we'll see.
06:06Yeah, he can say C.J.'s our guy.
06:08That's our guy.
06:09That doesn't mean our guy forever.
06:11I'm –
06:11I'm entertained, man.
06:12I can't wait.
06:14That's one – obviously, you got the draft.
06:16Obviously, you got free agency.
06:18Obviously, you won 12 games and you're on the doorstep of the AFC championship
06:22and hopefully a Super Bowl.
06:24You're right there.
06:25So, it's obviously an exciting time to be covering the Texans in the offseason.
06:31But when you sprinkle in, does Will Anderson get a new deal and C.J. not?
06:35Yes.
06:36If C.J. doesn't get one, does he hold out?
06:38Does it get ugly?
06:39What does David Mulageta do?
06:42You know, we'll see, man.
06:44It won't be David Mulageta's first or Nick Casario's first QB dealing, if you will, here in Houston.
06:56I wanted to move off this text line.
06:59Y'all are adding words in to create this narrative.
07:02Carolina Panthers said the exact same thing with Young.
07:05Both need to play better and they play better.
07:08They're going to get – they're going to be here long term.
07:10No, I'm not – we're not adding any words.
07:11But you just – you just said what we – what are we adding?
07:14You just said what we said.
07:16You added words.
07:17It needs to play better.
07:18And if they do play better, they'll be – I agree.
07:20I agree.
07:21But we are not adding words.
07:23We are saying the words that Nick is adding.
07:26I said he could have just said, yeah, man, C.J.'s our guy.
07:31That could have meant our guy for right now.
07:33That could mean our guy.
07:34Like, that could just mean he's our guy and not really –
07:37he is the one who has added to the not only is C.J. our guy not being traded,
07:42he is the one who is saying he is our guy, he's not being traded,
07:46and it is for this year, for next season.
07:50He said anything beyond that.
07:53Isn't that what he said?
07:54No, yesterday.
07:54Not in what you just played.
07:56I mean, I'm sorry, he has done it seven times, all right?
08:01Sometimes he's added a little bit of extra stuff in it.
08:03But he has said within one of the seven times over the last two days,
08:08anything beyond this year.
08:11Like, we're not adding stuff.
08:13He said it.
08:13Oh, no, look, I think it's fair to listen to what he's saying
08:20and realizing, acknowledging – make of it what you want,
08:24but realizing and acknowledging that Nick Casario has specifically said,
08:30for some reason, instead of just he's our guy,
08:33we're excited to have him for one more year.
08:35We're excited to have him for next year.
08:36Like, there's – the wide range of ways that the general manager
08:41could answer that question and be justified about C.J. Stroud,
08:45and he's choosing to do it the way he's doing,
08:47I don't think it's a coincidence.
08:48I think it's – I think it's –
08:50Yeah.
08:50I think it's purposefully done.
08:52And so, I mean, he could very easily, like you said,
08:55just go with the whole, hey, man, he's our guy.
08:57He's our guy.
08:58We're committed to C.J. Stroud right now.
09:01You could go into the whole, hey, man, we're –
09:04you know, we all thought that at this point in time in C.J.'s career,
09:07we'd be hearing him talk about, hey, man,
09:09we're trying to hammer out the best deal we can for C.J. Stroud,
09:11keep him here long term, you know?
09:14Yeah.
09:14Someone texted, why is it a big deal what Dick said?
09:16You guys are all of – fans feel the same.
09:20Show us one more year, then we'll see about a big contract.
09:24Damn.
09:24No, I think one – one piece of it is we got complete clarity
09:29from Nick Casario on how they are feeling about it,
09:33which one is a big deal.
09:35They're not going to give him a new contract.
09:36And then now it is how does this shake out on the other side?
09:40I think it's –
09:41Here's the deal.
09:44Anything Texans quarterback related is a big-ass deal around these parts.
09:49It's the whole reason you pick the phone up and text in, right?
09:52I mean, it's a big deal.
09:54And when the general manager comes out and says, hey,
09:56we're not trading C.J. Stroud, it's a big deal.
09:58It's a big deal.
09:59Even if you're of the thought that C.J. was never getting traded,
10:01it's still a big deal when it comes out of the mouth of the general manager.
10:04When the general manager then follows it up with,
10:06we're not trading C.J. Stroud,
10:07we're excited about him being here for one more year.
10:09And he specifically says one more year, not one time,
10:13but on a couple of different occasions, it's a talking point.
10:17It's a big deal.
10:18It's the Texans quarterback.
10:19It's a guy that they could potentially pay $50 to $60 million to.
10:23Hell, yeah, it's a big deal.
10:24I don't know if there's not one thing in the city that moves the needle
10:29the way C.J. Stroud does right now.
10:30And the response of what C.J. Stroud and his campers going to have.
10:34Now, that's going to be get your popcorn.
10:35Towards that.
10:36That's the other part of it.
10:37That's going to be get your popcorn.
10:39Hey, man, you could have said it once.
10:41You didn't have to say it seven times.
10:43You didn't have to keep saying it.
10:44Hey, get your damn popcorn, man.
10:46I'm ready to see what happens this year.
10:48I'm ready to see what happens this year.
