00:00Every week, though, it's an O'Karram Injury Lawyers Reaction Monday on 95.7 The Fan.
00:07Here's The Drive with Sterner and Hughley.
00:16All right, welcome back on a Reaction Monday.
00:19And you know it's 3 o'clock on a Monday, which means it is the Andre Ware Show on 95
00:25.7 The Fan.
00:26And the Andre Ware Show is sponsored by ImageNet Consulting.
00:32And it's good to hear you.
00:33I mean, I hope you had a little time, a little break, although I know you're still working during the
00:37bye week.
00:38But I hope you had a little break this Sunday to watch or at least chill and enjoy yourself.
00:45I did.
00:45I did all day yesterday, that's for sure, once I finally got in after a bunch of delays and reshuffling
00:52of flights from Syracuse, New York.
00:55But yesterday was a good time to just re-energize and get ready for the push for the latter part
01:01of the season.
01:02Well, speaking of the push to the latter part of the season, the Texans are through the bye week.
01:08And I'm curious from you, you know, a lot of self-evaluation happens during the bye week.
01:15They look at themselves and what things they can improve or what things can get better.
01:20Do you expect any major personnel changes or any changes coming out of the bye week from the Texans?
01:28Well, I think there could be some reshuffling.
01:30I think maybe not where it's quite obvious, but other guys getting some time or being elevated to the game
01:41day roster
01:41and then getting time there that normally wouldn't have.
01:44So, yeah, I think there's certainly going to be some movement.
01:47I mean, there may be some offensive line movement that we can see clearly coming out of the bye week
01:53after they've had a real chance to sit down, assess everything, and move forward from there.
02:00So, yeah, I think there's going to be some things that we see.
02:03Yeah, it's interesting on the offensive line with the tackles.
02:07You can argue that the way Braden Smith played is that heavy tight end last week
02:13and the way that Blake Fisher's kind of played all the training camp and been really good.
02:16I mean, there's a chance to see a little bit of movement there.
02:19Hey, Dre, what about just – I mean, you watch this team and study this team as close as anybody
02:24out there.
02:24You've been through a million different bye weeks as a player at every level and in the media game.
02:31As you watch the Texans, if Andre Ware is the head coach of the Houston Texans,
02:37what are some adjustments, if you will, that they may or may not make?
02:42But if you're a football mind, what could you see maybe helping this team get on the winning side of
02:48a few games?
02:50I think rotational stuff, Clint.
02:53I don't know that it's going to be from a starting standpoint that I would do it,
02:57but certainly rotational players on both sides of the ball, more of certain receivers, less of others,
03:08less of personnel groupings, more of others.
03:11And then on the defense in particular, I think it's right in the middle where you're going to see some
03:18movement
03:19where defensive tackle, for instance, that's an area of concern and an area that teams have exploited.
03:27And whether it's through inexperience or just lack of whatever, the production isn't meeting what needs to be met.
03:36And so I think there may be some movement there, and that's a place that I would look to as
03:42well.
03:42You're listening to The Andre Ware Show.
03:44The Andre Ware Show is sponsored by ImageNet Consulting.
03:47Remember, at the end of the segment, ask Andre anything, 713-5724-16, YouTube and Twitch.
03:53You can ask any questions, sports-related or non-sports-related,
03:57and he'll answer them to the best of his abilities.
04:01Since we last talked to you, they lost a big piece on the offense side of the ball.
04:06Jalen Knoll had a season-ending turf toe injury.
04:10And I know talking to you, you've been really excited about him and how he was coming on.
04:15How big a loss is this for this offense?
04:18I think it's huge because of what your last comment or the last part of that statement was how he
04:24was coming on,
04:26on how he was maturing within the offense, how all of a sudden he wasn't thinking anymore.
04:31It was just reactionary.
04:33And that's what a lot of young players go through.
04:36Now it's almost as if he's starting over again because now you've got the rehab process of the toe and
04:45surgery after that,
04:47or before that, and then all of a sudden you get into the rehab portion.
04:50But you're trying to stay up to speed with the changes and things that are going to go on within
04:57this offense.
04:58And so I think that from a – he's frustrated there as a player.
05:02I've been in this situation.
05:03You're frustrated whenever you can't get on the field and then you're playing well and you're taken off the field.
05:09So he had become a weapon, a weapon that you could utilize a lot of different ways, excellent in the
05:20return game.
05:21So I think that he was just rounding in the form where the thought process was gone, the thinking, the
05:27game has slowed down for him.
05:29And then now this, he's going to have to battle his way back.
05:33But I think he'll be better because of it or from it on the back end of it.
05:38Dre, you touched on this a little earlier in our conversation, but you mentioned the personnel,
05:45some potential personnel groupings, if you will, changing offensively.
05:50My mind immediately goes to maybe being a little bit more spread.
05:54I know your upbringing and you're playing the game, your mind always goes to more spread,
06:00less sixth offensive linemen and more guys that can catch the damn ball.
06:04But I want to pick your brain a little bit about, I think it's a unique situation, right,
06:10that this organization started the season with the mindset of, hey, offense, hey, CJ, just don't lose the game.
06:18And now in seven weeks, we've done a 180.
06:21And it's not a secret.
06:22Hell, D'Amico's talked about it.
06:24I mean, this is a CJ Stroud, really a high-scoring, almost pass-the-ball-first type of organization moving
06:33forward.
06:33And with that being what we've watched play on the field, what, with CJ Stroud having a little bit more,
06:41I want to speak from your experience, but CJ Stroud having a little bit more power in the building to
06:48say,
06:48hey, maybe to your point, the groupings, the more receivers, more pass catchers, let's do some more of this.
06:55Do you think that continues to grow as the season goes along?
06:58I think it has to, Clint.
07:00That's kind of what I was referring to in a sense in terms of changes.
07:06It was a 180.
07:07It was a total flip from what you thought this team would look like and the image in which it
07:16was being structured to what it is right now.
07:21Maybe by accident you ended up here, but this is where you are.
07:25And I think the faster you embrace what you are, the better off you can be and go out and
07:31execute and have fun doing it.
07:32CJ is, whether you want to build around one player or not, or you're not going to, he's kind of
07:40forced that through his play.
07:42And I think any team worth its weight will absolutely build around the quarterback if, you know,
07:48unless you want to start over every four or five years at that position.
07:53The one thing a quarterback does not want to hear is that he's not important enough to build around.
08:00And CJ is a prideful guy.
08:03I know he, you know, there's every quarterback has a little bit of ego to him.
08:08And so, you know, you start chipping away at that.
08:12You've got to watch how you deliver certain messages to an individual like that.
08:17And he is taking it upon himself to say, hey, I'm going to show you that I'm more than just
08:23hand it off
08:24and throw it on third down and don't mess it up.
08:27He is, he's done that.
08:28He hadn't messed it up, but progress in it as well.
08:32Tremendous progress in leaps and bounds.
08:35The 11 touchdown passes, only one interception.
08:38Yeah, he's done exactly what you asked him to do, take care of the football.
08:41But he's also shown you that you can depend on him, you can lean on him,
08:46and you can certainly win with the way he plays the game or chooses to play it.
08:51I think he was frustrated, checking it down all the time, not being able to push the ball down the
08:57field.
08:57So now that the team has been built in that image, that's what he wants to do.
09:03And I don't know that you can pull back from where you are right now.
09:07I think a lot of people that, you know, smart football people understand they're struggling to run the football.
09:13There are other ways to run it just other than just lining up, being big, trying to bully people, and
09:20that's not being successful.
09:21Well, you watch it every time.
09:23The college game has always been really good at that, but they're getting better and better with that creative runs
09:29and different people touching the ball and however you want to handle it, extending the pass game into your run
09:34game.
09:35Man, you guys, I don't mean to cut you off, Clint, but you guys should have seen Syracuse's sixth offensive
09:42lineman package.
09:42They used it a handful of times, maybe three or so, but every time they used it, for the most
09:48part,
09:49they were throwing the football out of it and they got a touchdown pass out of it, converted two fourth
09:54downs out of it
09:54or short yardage situations out of it, but it wasn't runs.
09:58It was designed to look like, and it was down on the goal line, designed to look like they were
10:04going to smash it in there,
10:06put the big back in and everything, and then threw the football out of it.
10:09That's the imagination that I'm talking about.
10:13And somewhere in the middle of that, CJ's very satisfied with that.
10:18Well, it's interesting because as you're talking, I'm thinking back about kind of what we've heard from D'Amico
10:23with that jumbo set is we put the sixth offensive lineman in there to get regular personnel in there
10:28so that we can block it better, when in reality, it would be ideal to put him in there,
10:33now get a matchup in the pass game and take advantage of that.
10:36So we'll see, but where I wanted to go with that, Dre, was just, I mean, we spend a lot
10:41of time,
10:42at two and five, obviously, it gets hard, man.
10:44It gets negative.
10:45It's a run.
10:46It's what we do.
10:47We signed up for it.
10:48But the reality of it is you mentioned CJ.
10:51I mean, if this offense takes a little bit of a turn to where they're a little bit more CJ
10:56-centric
10:56from the jump and that's who they want to be, I mean, you could be looking at one of these
11:00Aaron Rodgers types of years where it's, you know, 30 touchdowns and four or five interceptions
11:06kind of deal out of CJ.
11:07I mean, that's what is right there.
11:10He's got 10 games left, and this guy could easily throw 20 more touchdowns
11:14if you lean into him a little bit.
11:15That'd be a hell of a year for him.
11:17Yeah, you would.
11:18And you hear that sound.
11:20That's the truck cranking up where they're getting ready to back it up to his house and
11:24unload a bunch of money on him if he has the kind of year that you just described.
11:29So, he's not playing the game for that.
11:31He wants wins and certainly this team to get in the playoffs and make a big push.
11:38I think the schedule's kind of set up for that.
11:41You're right, though.
11:42And it's, again, by accident because this wasn't supposed to be the type of philosophy offensively
11:50that they wanted to implement.
11:53And just by whatever, trades, upgrading a receiver room, getting guys back like Tank Dale,
12:01that's what it's become.
12:02And you spread it out.
12:05Now, Woody Marks, things are easier to block up front.
12:08It's just the game can be played a lot easier, especially with the type of personnel that's
12:15on this offense.
12:16All right, that's Andre Ware.
12:18A lot of people with some thoughts here on some of the things you were saying.
12:23Ask Andre anything.
12:24We do that at the end of the Andre Ware show, which is sponsored by ImageNet Consulting.
12:29The first one here, ask Andre what his favorite place to call a college game is, and that's
12:36because of the town.
12:37What's your favorite place to call a game because of the town?
12:42Oh, boy, because of the town.
12:46Right away, because of the view, would be BYU.
12:51It's just the crazy, the prettiest view.
12:55The atmosphere is crazy.
12:57I think they do one heck of a job in terms of the production leading into the game.
13:02And then BYU and Kalani Satake, he's going to have a good football team to put on the field
13:09each and every time I go up there.
13:11So that's there.
13:12A&M would be on that list from just a standpoint of just a crazy atmosphere.
13:19It's loud.
13:20It's raucous.
13:21It's, you know, there's plenty of passion within the fans that are there.
13:26But just from a town standpoint, oh, man, I'm usually head down in study and all that
13:35stuff.
13:35So I'm not seeing the town very much.
13:37There you go.
13:37Ask Andre anything.
13:38Do you like scary movies?
13:40If so, what's your favorite?
13:43No, I don't.
13:46I really don't.
13:48And if I had to choose a favorite, it's an oldie, but a goodie.
13:53I got a group of friends that tease me about this.
13:55But when a stranger calls, it's a very old, old movie where the guy that's doing all the
14:01stuff.
14:02And if you want to go watch it, I'll leave the description out of it.
14:06But he is actually in the house with his babysitter.
14:09And it's not the newer version.
14:10It's the old one that scared me when I was very young.
14:13And that broke me up from scary movies.
14:16Hey, Dre, I'm with you on that, man.
14:17And do it.
14:18I'll be honest with you.
14:19It just happened.
14:20I'm not a big Halloween guy.
14:21I ain't talking about the movie.
14:22I'm talking about the holiday.
14:23I mean, it's just something about walking up there.
14:26And all I can see is that some guy's got a smoke machine and a machete.
14:28And I'm just going to trust that he's just a normal old boy that's just trying to scare
14:32me.
14:32I had a Power Ranger episode take me out for weeks.
14:35I had nightmares.
14:37For weeks.
14:38Alvin News is scary, man.
14:41All right.
14:41Ask Andre anything.
14:43Andre, I have a pretty good job.
14:45What's an appropriate price range for me on a first date?
14:50First date?
14:53Yeah.
14:53Oh, boy.
14:54You're probably, you know, if you're really into her, you're probably going somewhere around
15:02$200 to $225.
15:05You're going to take her to a nice place.
15:08You're going to get you a nice steak and some drinks.
15:10And by the time you roll out of there, you're going to spend about $225.
15:14Somewhere in there.
15:15I'm not talking about the squat rack.
15:17I'm talking about $200 to $225.
15:21Hey, I took my wife to Chili's.
15:25I was going to say, hey, Joe's been married 10 years.
15:28He still ain't got there.
15:29Hey, Joe, take my five.
15:3015.
15:31I've been married 15 years.
15:3215 years.
15:33You're going to be crazy.
15:35$225.
15:36Come on, Joe.
15:38You got to get you a good place, man.
15:40Nice meal.
15:41And a couple of cold ones to throw down your neck.
15:45You'll be fine, man.
15:46Come on, man.
15:46You won't even work.
15:47You enjoy their night so much, you wouldn't even care about the price.
15:51The hell I wouldn't.
15:53I enjoyed it.
15:55I enjoyed that Chili's.
15:56At two for 20, I enjoyed it.
16:00All right.
16:00Well, that menu, he'd sit down.
16:02That menu would piss him off before he ever got anything.
16:04He'd sit down over the menu.
16:05He'd go get up, Clint.
16:07Hey, they ain't even said a drink on the table yet.
16:09I'm not getting up.
16:10I ain't driving.
16:10The showman.
16:12All right, last one.
16:14To ask Andre anything, is 16-0 for my son next year to go trick-or-treat?
16:20No.
16:21No.
16:22Not at all.
16:23I don't think so.
16:24I enjoy it.
16:25Clint doesn't like Halloween, but I like the candy.
16:28And my son is 15.
16:31He went to a Halloween party, but he didn't scour the neighborhood like I needed him to.
16:35And we got a couple of neighbors that give the full big bar candy bars.
16:40And I needed him to hit a couple of houses like that for me.
16:43But he missed the opportunity for me.
16:47I don't know, Andre.
16:48I'm trick-or-treating through him, man.
16:51If you're eligible to get a driver's license, I feel like you got to hang him up from going
16:55door to door with a basket.
16:58The way you get around at those shows, you take a couple of younger kids and you go with
17:03them.
17:03That way you still, you know, you can still pass on Halloween night.
17:07All right.
17:08That's Andre Ware, the Andre Ware Show.
17:10We'll talk to you next week.
17:12All right, guys.
17:13Talk to you then.
17:14225.
17:15Y'all send Dre some candy so you ain't got to keep dressing his son up.
17:19Hey, this man played years in the National Football League's Heisman Trophy.
17:26And he said they still give away those full-size candy bars.
17:33All right, 225.
17:35Wow.
17:36Okay.
17:36First date, right?
17:38God, that's an anniversary.
17:39First.
