00:00This is time for a new session on CEO Stories. Welcome back.
00:05I'm here with the President of Western Europe, Kjofn Simur Business of Huawei, William Tian.
00:12Hello, thank you so much for being with us.
00:15Thank you for having me.
00:16So, I'm going to ask you the question that I ask all CEOs on this stage.
00:21How do you think innovation and new technologies will transform your company by 2030?
00:27Okay, you know, actually, Huawei is a leading technology company.
00:35So, we started in 1978.
00:39So, I might start it by introducing Huawei a little bit.
00:44So, Huawei actually have three major business areas.
00:48First is, you know...
00:50I'm going to ask you to put the mics here. It's better.
00:52So, Huawei, you know, the first pillar is telecom infrastructure business.
00:59We work with our telecom carriers to provide them, you know, fiber or 5G network.
01:08And our second is our enterprise business group, which, you know, provide telecom infrastructure, computing, cloud business to our enterprise
01:21partners.
01:22And then the third part actually is a consumer business group, which I'm in, you know.
01:28So, we provide hardware like smartphone, wearable, PC monitors, and also software ecosystem.
01:38Yeah. And actually, Huawei, that R&D is the DNA of Huawei.
01:45So, every year, we invest more than 22% of our net revenue in R&D, which, for example, last
01:55year in 2022, which means almost 22 billion US dollars in R&D.
02:02What's the result, which brings us, you know, the world's second biggest, the R&D investor in private sector in
02:14the world across the industries.
02:15And also, you know, a lot of patents, we have been applying for more than 220,000 patents, for example,
02:29in 5G, in smartphone.
02:30And so, Huawei's vision in the next 10 years actually is using these technologies to bring digital to every person,
02:43home and organization for a fully connected and intelligent world.
02:49This is our vision for the next 10 years.
02:53So, from your vision as a technology company, William, is there one innovation that you will focus on
03:00to kind of revolutionize your business?
03:06Okay, actually, for the fully connected and intelligent world, the AR, artificial intelligence, plays a key role in the future.
03:14So, Huawei actually, we, you know, spend a lot of resources doing research on AI area.
03:24Just a small example, you know, in early this year, we launched a smart conference,
03:30new feature into our laptop and the smart office scenario.
03:35So, what does this mean?
03:37So, using AI algorithm and AI technology, we collect tons of data of your, like noises of your users' voices.
03:49So, for example, when we do that, we do a lot of, you know, video conference during the pandemic, right?
03:57So, when you have a video conference call with your colleagues, with your team, then there is always have a
04:03noisy keyboard typing,
04:06you know, the steps and mouse clicking, it's annoying.
04:12So, using this AI technology, we can tell what's the noise, what's the human voices and it's the noise cancellation.
04:20And also, we can tell your user algorithm to tell who is your voice and enhance your voice in a
04:31video conference call.
04:32Yeah. So, all these like AI technology, you know, employment in like daily life, like working from home.
04:42Yeah. This is an example.
04:43Thank you so much, William. We cannot miss talking about the COVID-19 crisis, which has impacted all companies,
04:52you especially with your HQ in China.
04:55And you could see definitely within that, an idea of the future of work.
05:01How do you envision that?
05:03So, because Huawei is an international company, we are very, we even were very familiar with this, you know, tele
05:13-meeting, video conference before like pandemic.
05:17But for the, most of the people, most of the, you know, the employees, you know, they get, already get
05:28used to the tele-conference and working from home.
05:33During the pandemic. So even the post pandemic time, I think this working from home and working office, working on
05:43the go will be the, you know, the new normal.
05:46So I think the hybrid working mode will be the new normal.
05:50So Huawei is a technology company.
05:53We enable the order, you know, people can have this bad experience of a hybrid working.
06:01Yeah. By introducing, you know, the hardware is like laptop, smartphone, tablets, and also smartwatch, you know, to enable people
06:10to work seamlessly.
06:14Combine all the scenario, working at home from home, working office and working on the go.
06:19So in terms of the post pandemic world, we cannot miss talking about ESG, social responsibility.
06:29And you wanted to talk about a few initiatives that you took.
06:37Yes. Last month, we just launched a Huawei new wearable product, watch GT3 Pro and a 52.
06:46And at the same time we introduced, you know, Huawei house, our house apps upgrade, upgrade, you know, in this
06:58new upgrade, you know,
07:00So we take tons of efforts to improve the data protection, privacy and security, because, you know, during the pandemic,
07:13people even pay more attention to health and fitness.
07:17We're wearing their, you know, smartwatch, do the running, you know, exercise, you know, this data, workout data and health
07:27data, like your heart rate steps and your routine, and even like blood pressure data actually is stored in a
07:39watch and in a smartphone and a cloud.
07:41So Huawei, we pay a lot of efforts to make it more secure, more safe.
07:50And I'm very proud, you know, Huawei actually received, awarded the first place for wearable data protection by German, by
08:05German tech media.
08:09The computer built, you know, they awarded us the first place in terms of health and sports data protection, you
08:19know, in terms of smartwatch and apps.
08:23So I think in this post pandemic, this is very, very important privacy, especially for the health and fitness data.
08:33Before we move on to the second part of this interview, I would like to ask you, William, of one
08:38innovation or one tech solution that actually impressed you recently.
08:45Actually, you know, we introduced the mobile app engine into Windows PC.
08:55What does this mean? Because, you know, we have millions of apps for smartphones, but most of the apps cannot,
09:07you know, run smoothly, cannot run or don't have a consistent experience.
09:13In PC. So we bring through this mobile app engine, which allows much more apps to run on Windows PC.
09:26So, for example, you use Huawei books app, you know, you know, the experience, when you're on the go, you
09:40can use the smartphone to read books.
09:44And then, you know, at home or office, you can also read the book on the screen, on the laptop
09:54or on the monitor.
09:55But when you read at home or in the office, it's always, you know, seamlessly aligned with your last time,
10:06you know, smartphone reading experience.
10:07So all these, you know, the mobile apps in this PC actually is enabled. It's given a much better user
10:18experience.
10:18Thank you so much, William. And it's now time for On My Watch.
10:30So, William, we continue together for this second part of this interview.
10:35So Huawei is best known for cell phones, let's say, but I believe that now you're actually developing new products
10:46that you wanted to talk about.
10:48So, yes, yes, Huawei is well known as a smartphone brand.
10:55But actually, our vision in Consumer BG is to bring seamlessly AI life to everyone.
11:04So we fulfill this vision by introducing OnePlus 8 Plus N strategies, which means smartphone in the centre and also
11:16like computing, car, you know, wearable, audio,
11:23all these, you know, hardware together. So Huawei not only a smartphone manufacturer, but also this, you know, IT product,
11:33wearable product.
11:35And through this, we can deliver, you know, much better experience for smart home, smart office, you know, the entertainment,
11:43easy travel.
11:44And yeah, all these scenarios to enrich your life. Actually, you know, we just launched, for example, last month, the
11:57new wearable and Huawei house.
11:59And at the end of this month, we are going to launch new laptops and new smartphone upgrade.
12:08And also definitely, we continue to launch, you know, smartphone. This year, we already launched, we just launched, for example,
12:15our new generation of portable phone,
12:19MateBook XS2. Yeah. OK. And what is Huawei's vision for a smart office, William?
12:28Yeah, smartphone, Huawei has never been a hardware, a standalone hardware provider.
12:35Actually, we always try to, you know, make the order cross devices collaboration and the software ecosystem.
12:46So in terms of a smart office, so we bring, you know, the laptop, monitor, tablet, smartphone, all these devices
12:54together to provide a seamless, you know, connectivity and collaboration experience.
13:01For example, you know, tablet actually is very good at, you know, has a pencil, you can do the painting,
13:10like scratching canvas.
13:12But a PC, when you do the productivity or creative, you cannot do the painting.
13:18So put these two devices together, you know, you can just like a one super device.
13:24So you can, you, when you write, you know, the articles, you can do the painting on a, on a
13:31tablet and then seamlessly, you know, convert to the, to the PC, this kind of experience.
13:38So we try to make all these cross devices work seamlessly to make, enable you to have a high productivity
13:47and creativity whenever you are in an office, at home or on the go.
13:52Tell us more about it. What is exactly the super device, William?
13:57The super device is like, we put, you know, like a smartphone is really good at taking pictures.
14:05And a tablet, as I described, is really good at like painting.
14:10And a smartphone, the PC is really good at computing.
14:14You know, all these strong hardware capabilities can be combined together as a super device.
14:20You know, the hardware and the software, okay.
14:24So, so are smart office products available in Europe though?
14:28Yes, definitely.
14:29You know, we just introduced the new laptop and also two in one, you know, laptop and a new tablet
14:41and also new monitor called Huawei MateView.
14:43As I said, at the end of this month, we're going to launch new laptop.
14:50They are high performing big screen laptops and also to upgrade our smart office concept to make like, you know,
14:58the smart conference much more powerful.
15:01Thank you so much, William. And there's a next question that won't be asked from me, but that we'll be
15:08asking from another CEO.
15:09It's time for question time.
15:17So, William, in these CEO stories, we like to ask other CEOs to ask you a question.
15:25And the last question is always asked by another CEO, as I said.
15:29And this question is actually from Alexandre Viroz, CEO of ADECO.
15:34Let's watch.
15:36Hi. My name is Alexandre Viroz.
15:38I'm the CEO for the ADECO group in France.
15:41I have a question regarding the future of work.
15:44We talk a lot about hybrid work.
15:46We talk a lot about work from home.
15:48But my question has to do with work from the office.
15:51What will the office in the future look like according to you?
15:55Thanks a lot.
15:58Yes. As I described, you know, our smart office solution provide a much better experience.
16:05You know, as I said, in the future, the hybrid working mode will be the trend.
16:12You know, so you work from home, you work in office.
16:16So, as I said, in our super device and smart office concept will really make you can use your cross
16:26-ear devices.
16:27Like you have laptop, you have a tablet, you have a smartphone, you have a watch and you have monitor.
16:34You can always work very close.
16:38And also, Huawei is the biggest provider of network.
16:41Without the wireless connection, without, you know, the fiber, it's impossible to imagine.
16:46You know, we can have this, you know, work from home, a good experience.
16:51Okay.
16:52Thank you so much, William.
16:54That was very inspiring.
16:56And I invite everybody in the audience to go see your booth that you have at Vivitech this year as
17:02well.
17:02Thank you so much for sharing everything.
17:05And what you're doing with Tech4All is very inspiring.
17:09I know this super device is very important to you.
17:12That's kind of one of the innovation that you have at Huawei that will be very important for employees in
17:19the future.
17:20You know that these CEO stories have been created to allow companies to share all of their great work.
17:26And we continue with telecommunication in a few minutes because we will have the CEO and we will have another
