00:00November and first up it'll be Zav Judah's turn they'll have plenty of
00:05support here too we're told over a thousand the trip to Uncasville
00:10Connecticut. Judah Vester coming up next for the IBF junior welterweight crown
00:21getting set for the ring walk of Alan Vester as he comes in the challenger
00:26out of Denmark looking like all business first world title shot first fight on
00:34American soil had an outstanding amateur career with 75 victories only ten
00:40defeats it's only against a fighter by the name of Nasir Altumani
00:455-0 since for this last bout a majority decision over former world lightweight
00:50champion and southpaw George Scott in February in an IBF eliminator so as
00:57Vester makes his way to the ring Bobby Alain he fights 18 wins he was labeled an
01:02elite amateur by Zav Judah what's your assessment of Vester you know that's an
01:06interesting phrase an elite amateur he still has maintained a lot of his
01:09amateur type style again not a big puncher looks to outpoint you to outpoint
01:14Zav Judah you need to match his feet which I don't think he can do I think that
01:18guy really has to work it out for maybe stepped up all the way to the top a
01:21little too quick yeah good boxer good counter-punching skills defense is a
01:29strength lacks a lot of experience and his quality of opposition is something to
01:34be desired
01:37maybe taking on too much too soon here tonight against the quality of Zav Judah I
01:42think the very first two rounds are going to be exceptionally important for this
01:46young man if he can hold off Judah control him a little bit set the distance
01:50to do some of the things he needs to do he could be in decent shape at least take
01:54this fight some rounds and you know his opponent Zav Judah is very anxious to get
01:59it on tonight he's been waiting is very anxious to get it on tonight he's been
02:03waiting about five months there's the belt the IVF 140 pound belt the old Judah the
02:10father and trainer of Zav
02:13after the party it's the hotel bar yeah after ice then it's probably less and after the upper
02:18cup of two piece connects yes y'all game over when Zav bro it's like the blokes don't stop
02:42you know he's a star when he has his own music right there is fans out full support from Brooklyn
02:51the top of the party
02:54yeah
02:54yeah
02:59yeah
03:01yeah
03:25Well, even though he's got Kostya Zhu on the line, he insists he's focused on Vestor.
03:30But if you follow Judah of late, you've seen him kind of lax and careless, perhaps overconfident
03:35at times to the point that he's been dropped by Teron Millett, referee Arthur McCaddy,
03:40had to reprimand him twice to mix it up more in the Reggie Green fight.
03:45Bobby, sometimes he just says he gets bored.
03:47Which is abdunity you think will show up tonight?
03:49Well, Steve, I'll tell you what.
03:51Sometimes he says he gets bored, that the incentive isn't there, and sometimes I think it's just
03:54a matter of he doesn't really feel any threat from certain opponents.
03:57We've seen that pattern.
03:58He falls into a little daze.
03:59If this isn't incentive enough to look good, the showdown with Kostya Zhu, I don't know
04:04what is.
04:05Well, he did seem more businesslike and serious in our talks with him yesterday.
04:09As we check the numbers, let's go to the tail of the tape.
04:14Both fighters are 23 years of age.
04:16Vestor is slightly taller, a two-inch reach advantage for Judah.
04:20At yesterday's weigh-in Judah and Vestor under 140.
04:24Tonight, Judah 141, Vestor 143.
04:26And the key rules for this world title fight, there's no standing eight count.
04:30No three knockdown rule, the fighter cannot be saved by the belt in any round.
04:34If an accidental headbutt occurs before the end of the fourth round, the fighters rule
04:38that no contest.
04:39If it happens after the end of round four, they go to the scorecard.
04:42So here at Mohegan Sun, Zab Judah, Alan Vestor at stake, the IBF junior welterweight belt.

06:15So, please welcome the undefeated IBF number one ranked junior welterweight.
06:20Introducing Alan Vester.
06:28And his opponent across the ring, the defending world champion on my right, fighting out of
06:34the red corner, wearing blue trunks with silver trim, hailing from Brooklyn, New York.
06:42He weighed in the same as his opponent, 138 and one half pounds.
06:47He also is undefeated at 26 wins, no losses, one no contest with 20 wins coming by way of
06:55knockout.
06:56Tonight, ladies and gentlemen, he is making the fifth defensivist title.
07:00Here is the undefeated IBF junior welterweight champion of the world, introducing Zab, Super Judah.
07:16Once again, Charles Dwyer, our referee in charge, 12 rounds of championship boxing schedule.
07:27Now, we're going to take your cue from right, sir, and then John, right there, first start with you, Joe
07:31Cooch.
07:31Okay.
07:33We're going to take your cue.
07:39Okay, this one?
07:40Gentlemen, you both know the rules.
07:42Let's have a good, clean fight.
07:43Obey my commands at all times.
07:44Shake hands.
07:45Good luck.
07:46What are you calling?
07:49This man will kill you from the back.
07:51This man will kill you from the back.
07:54One of the better stare downs we've seen in some time, keys to victory, Bobby.
07:59Let's start with the champion, Zab Judah.
08:01First of all, use his overall speed, hands and feet.
08:04He is blazing.
08:05Number two, cut off the ring.
08:06He's got a guy who's going to move and stay on the outside.
08:08And lastly, work the body, then go up to the head.
08:11That's the best way to stop misstrax, then take the head.
08:14For Alan Vester, he wants to use a very effective jab.
08:18He's going to have to put something in Judah's face to keep him off.
08:20Also, with that jab, maybe set the fight distance.
08:22He can't fight inside, and Judah can.
08:24And lastly, the straight right hand is his best punch, and it's very effective against
08:27Southpaw in general.
08:28You're right to win.
08:29You're right.
08:29You're right.
08:31You're right.
08:31Wainwright, Judah, dominant and sharp.
08:35Elusive and slick.
08:37Exceptional speed with POP.
08:39Very sharp.
08:41Accurate punch with excellent reflex.
08:43A tremendous right uppercut.
08:45And has infinite energy.
08:47the key is to harness that intensity don't be over exuberant i'll tell you right now steve
08:54vester squares off while bringing his right shoulder forward he's going to walk into a
08:58straight left hand from zab judah and he's going to get hurt he squares off way too much against
09:02guy this fast and this sharp and accurate judah very deliberate measuring vester out
09:19said he spent part of his time at the palm beach training site working on cutting off the ring
09:23which could be of value tonight against a guy like vester he pops it with a straight leg
09:28combination blocked by vester's gloves vester's definitely keeping his hands up he's worried
09:33about the speed and the power of judah not fighting a bad fight right now keeping judah neutralized to a
09:39degree vester's leading a lot with the right hand then following the left hand somewhat awkward
09:49unorthodox and not normal maybe it might be effective and vester not dancing around as
09:55much as we thought he might be doing he's standing in there
10:02which could be to his disadvantage eventually as a target and he is at times aggressive as he jumps in
10:08there you see he jumped in with the right hand following with the sort of a half of a left
10:12hook
10:13jab cross combination and it's awkward but he lands not hard like again he popped him with the left hand
10:19alan vester with a good sequence there he did it twice in a row there and zab figured he was
10:24done and got
10:24hit with another set
10:25zab did land a lot of those clean but a couple of them got through and zab walked into another
10:43set that's an awkward combination but he can get hit by it
10:46he can get hit by it he can get hit by it vester undaunted came back with a series of
10:50punches of his own
10:56vester's game
10:57come on quickly come on good he's leading with a low right hand and falling with the left hand
11:01there's a cross between a hook and a jab and it's landing i'll say this he's not pulling a junior
11:06winner
11:07the man who pulled a fred astaire in a dance-a-thon against zab judah in scotland on the tyson
11:14of savary's car you know that was a that was a strange exhibition of i'm not even sure i want
11:19to call it
11:19boxing but running
11:24that's not a knockdown
11:48but he's trying to play he's trying to he's trying to jump a little quick shots
11:56here we see
11:57right here it's a weird sort of jab hook for us double combination here where
12:02you guys have judah a little aggravated didn't really hurt him but got him
12:07there's one he comes right back with another two and they both landed clean but again there's no real
12:13power in those punches
12:16you'll see zab get wild with a right hook over the top of the head and just a
12:19push slash slip to the ground
12:24i'm over here watching watch the feet right hand goes high feet are very mixed up and tangled
12:29no balance
12:31clearly a better first round for the challenger than most anticipated
12:37so here comes vester against judah for round two
12:42well the best strategy against a guy like judah keep the pressure on keep your defense tight throw a
12:47good straight right hand against the southpaw step to your left and fire and uh vester
12:54adhering to that strategy for the most part it's interesting to see what adjustments
12:59judo make to that right hand left and if
13:02master will indeed continue throwing it that way the crowd urging judah off
13:09chance of judah
13:13judah perhaps a little bit surprised himself by that first round
13:18and i'm sure somewhere in the back of his mind
13:21that's jesus on his mind he can't leave that be in the front of his mind
13:23he could lose the fight right in front of him could you imagine
13:28i really have a problem with that one
13:30lot at stake
13:32high profile big money fight in november with sue on the line should sue also
13:37cooperate later tonight
13:41even though those punches landed flushly on the gloves the gloves were sitting
13:45flushly on vester's face there is some residual effect
13:54vester very tricky get him out break clean watch your heads good so far zap judah has not solved
13:59the puzzle now vester working out of a deep crouch
14:05he's showing judah a lot of looks this is with that slapping right and if you notice
14:10vester has been able to move to his left quite a bit there's a good left hand by jura on
14:15the head of
14:16vester and now he's beginning to pick it up another combination right left by zap jura and down
14:23goes vester overhand left has rolled that right up because got him good vester on the canvas for the
14:29first time in his career six seven eight okay gets up rather fast though
14:37a minute to go round two
14:41judah trying to end it here jumping all over vester
14:45down to his knees right uppercut started down again steve he slipped came inside right uppercut
14:50left over the top judah jumps on the turnbuckle it's not over zab hey you okay he was celebrating with
14:57the audience
15:00two knockdowns here and vester linden a nice right hand and left over no three knockdown rule
15:09not a ton of time left in this round but you would close it out
15:1423 seconds and counting vester trying to survive the second round
15:23now he's trying to dance away from the champion to keep his distance
15:29when that probably left is having an effect on vester
15:32now that that right he's very effective on the inside that's one of his best punches and often
15:37a forgotten punch in boxing the uppercut
15:46that's your base
15:49how are we doing fine fine
15:53henrik resum our translator i'm okay i'm okay
15:59legs are right
16:07just throw the punch get his respect again
16:18take a look at that burst knockdown zab judah coming in he's so quick he's powerful straight
16:24left hand and right hook not real clean but he's following he's chasing the right uppercut inside
16:28did hurt him you can see him buckle a little bit and then that left hand straight
16:33a little bit of a slip toward toward the end there but
16:36again that right up being so effective on the inside second knockdown he just beat him to his knees
16:40through the gloves well let's see if vester can get judah's respect again
16:48that was great advice in the corner right hand get the respect because he had not hurt but
16:52kids they have one good right hand and zab did back up take a look
17:19he's the number one contender in the eyes of the ibf
17:46fester's eyes seem to be okay his legs seem to be under doesn't seem to have too much residual
17:51left over bad body parts from that knockdown,
17:55but points are adding up now.
17:57He's going to have to make a move.
18:00As mentioned, Judah has been down before.
18:03Great clean.
18:04Mostly when he's caught off guard once against Jan Bergen
18:07when he won the vacant title right here in this arena.
18:10And against Teron Millett.
18:12Three fights ago, he walked right into a corner.
18:17It was a nice attempt right up against the left hook
18:20by Vester, but he doesn't have the power that Zab has.
18:24He doesn't have the power of Akash Azu.
18:25He's not going to really be the respect he needs
18:27unless he throws good combinations.
18:31And you have to wonder what might be going through the mind
18:33of Akash Azu as he takes this one in backstage.
18:39Watching Zab Judah.
18:40I truly wonder if he's even watching
18:42and leaving any of his attention to this fight
18:45as opposed to what he's got to do.
18:46Really think so, huh?
18:47Krasma.
18:57We approached 40 seconds remaining round three.
19:03More of an uneventful round as opposed to the first two.
19:06More action packed.
19:09Vester bouncing back from two knock downs in the last round.
19:17and comes back with a pretty good flurry and you know what there was a nice combination
19:22follow-up combination fester's in trouble on the right hand and it's right on cowboy
19:26for zap judah sharp sharp counter right hook steve really caught fester he didn't see it coming
19:31he may not get up nine that's it being waved off by charles flyer third round stoppage
19:40for zap judah you know he just got up before 10. and best of didn't see that right hook you
19:46could
19:47see the delayed reaction his eyes went blank he never saw it and it really hurt him
19:52and wire wisely waved it off and zap judah with his fifth title defense and the crowd reacts
20:01with chance of judah so zap judah moves on and he now has done his part in the sue judah
20:13showdown
20:14fester just had his best double combination as far as effectiveness and then walks into
20:18right here counter right hook bang bang he just walks right into it i mean he i think he just
20:24turned his head away for a split second steve got caught fester down three times in the fight
20:28two in the second one more in the third and the third one was it for zap judah now 27
20:37-0 one no contest
20:38with 21 knockouts and has now cleared the way to title unification from his part and if kasha
20:47zoo beats octay or cow in our next battle and zoo and judah will finally get it on and that'll
20:54be
20:54november 3rd to see who is the undisputed 140 pound champion
20:59meanwhile alan vester loses for the first time in his professional career goes to 18-1 and one
21:10well nice to see him smile he's okay
21:13all right let's walk you around
21:14we're gonna take a look at the replay that knocked down
21:17there's a nice right hook right there that sort of catches him and he doesn't see it
21:22and you see him stagger stutter look around go to his knees and then dive face first into the
21:27corner it didn't look that powerful at the time but when you don't see them coming watch it again
21:36he also got the red for the first time in the first time in the second place
21:37he had a nice combination and zapped now back on the attack
21:39he's just made with a tries to give him a couple he lands a very clean but not
21:45apparently so hard
21:49when you catch a fighter looking sometimes it's it should get short-circuited i can't
21:53imagine that this right hand was better than some of the other punches he'd already
21:57absorbed, but the results speak for themselves.
22:02Vester hung in there as long as he could.
22:04We thought he'd be dancing and running a lot more.
22:06He was courageous, staying in there with Zab Judah,
22:09for the most part.
22:10He just got counted out here, and the fight was stopped
22:13by referee Charles Dwyer.
22:16He just didn't want to take any more.
22:18It was pretty clear on his face.
22:20So there is Zab Judah and family and friends.
22:24Right, baby, look him in the house.
22:27You heard me?
22:29Zab is now able to take a big, deep breath and celebrate,
22:32gets a kiss on the cheek from Gary Shaw, the COO of Maine Events.
22:39I never in my life were easy that fast.
22:41I keep going home now.
22:45Somebody asked, why did Judah line up a Kostya Zoo prototype
22:48in advance of Zoo tonight?
22:49But for someone like yourself who can get in the mind of a fighter,
22:53he's probably just more comfortable doing that in the gym
22:56rather than risking it here.
22:58Let's get it back up to Jimmy Leonard Jr. for the official time.
23:03Ladies and gentlemen, we have the time of two minutes, 58 seconds.
23:07And round number three, a referee in charge.
23:10Charles Dwyer reaches the count of 10.
23:13The winner by way of knockout, still undefeated,
23:16and still the IBF junior welterweight champion of the world,
23:22Zab Super Judah.
23:27Well, they call it officially a knockout,
23:30although Vester did get to his feet at nine,
23:34like nine and a half, I'd say.
23:36But the referee had his own ideas and stopped the fight anyway.
23:41It was a wide stoppage, of course,
23:43but they're saying that he was counted out officially in the books.
23:47He was standing up at nine, but I think he was in no shape to continue.
23:49Absolutely, I agree.
23:51So they could have gone either way with this, KO or TKO.
23:53It's really academic.
23:55It's another W, but this time in more emphatic fashion for Zab Judah.
24:00But obviously, we have to question the caliber of his opponent tonight,
24:04even though he was deemed the number one contender,
24:07according to the International Boxing Federation.
24:09You know, many times that number one ranking,
24:11you wind up getting it through attrition
24:13because all the good fighters who have fought eventually wind up losing.
24:16There's nobody left to put up there
24:18who hasn't already been up there at one time or another.
24:20And I think they also like to give some European fighters a chance.
24:24All right.
24:26It is misleading at times.
24:28Coming up next, our main event.
24:30Here comes Zab's rival, WBC, WBA Super Lightweight Champion,
24:35Kostya Zou, taking on WBC number one contender, Akhtey Orkal,
24:39as Zou defends both of his 140-pound belts.
24:43We take you into the dressing room of the champion.
24:45Here he is, the thunder from down under, Kostya Zou,
24:48looking straight into that camera.
24:50Former Russian amateur star who went to Australia
24:53after winning the world amateurs at 91.
24:55With the then-Soviet Union breaking up, he bypassed the 92 Olympics,
24:59settled in Sydney, turned pro, moving his wife, two sons,
25:02and parents down under as well.
25:04No-nonsense young man speaks with a Russian-slash-Australian accent.
25:10Thank you very much.
25:11Post-fight reaction.
25:12Jim Gray in the ring.
25:13Jim.
25:14All right.
25:14Thank you very much, Steve.
25:16We're joined by the entire Judah family.
25:19Narcisse, Brandy, Zab.
25:21You're the main man here, though, in the family today.
25:23Yeah.
25:24Were you looking forward a little bit,
25:25and did Allen catch you in the first round?
25:28Well, no.
25:28I mean, you know, he was kind of quick, you know what I'm saying?
25:30He came in with a lot of speed punches.
25:31You know, like, it stung me a little bit off, you know, in the first round.
25:34But I was quickly adjusting because I'm in tremendous shape.
25:37I worked very hard, and I came in and do my best.
25:40Were you disappointed?
25:41You looked like you walked away disappointed at the end of the second round
25:43that you didn't put him away.
25:44Oh, well, at the second round, you know, I'm used to when I heard a guy finish him.
25:48And, you know, Allen came in and he escaped the bell.
25:52He escaped the bell, but the next round I got him.
25:54You know what I mean?
25:54I feel good today.
25:55Let's take a look at the couple of knockdowns that we had.
25:57First in the second round, Azab, tell us as we look at the monitor here exactly what's happening.
26:02You know, I'm setting up.
26:03I'm looking for him for him to throw a punch so I can counter.
26:06I knew that he was quick, so in his fight I had to be the counter puncher.
26:09So every punch he threw, I was looking to counter, you know.
26:12But it was a short uppercut that caught him.
26:14And then in the second knockdown again in the second round, it looked like he went to his knees.
26:18Just need a little relief, it looked like.
26:20Boom!
26:20Uppercut.
26:21Right to the body.
26:22Straight down the middle.
26:23There you go.
26:24I mean, they all get it.
26:26He's praying.
26:27He thought it was over there, didn't you?
26:30Did you think it was over there?
26:31I thought it was over.
26:31I was up on the ropes and I was like, it's over.
26:35Now round three.
26:37Finishing touches.
26:38Yeah.
26:38Finishing touches.
26:39Come on.
26:39Where you going?
26:39Come on.
26:40Get over here.
26:42But, you know, like I said, I had a great camp.
26:44Tremendous camp in West Palm Beach, Florida.
26:46I got my conditioning training from Powerhouse Gym in West Palm Beach.
26:49Thanks for Frank over there at Powerhouse.
26:51And I just want to say I had a tremendous camp.
26:53I worked hard.
26:55You know, I'm just looking to go out there and do my best.
26:57And I'm also helping our kids.
26:58I got a Super Judah Foundation.
27:00You know what I mean?
27:01So if anybody want to get interested, look me up.
27:03W.W.Z.
27:04Let me ask you now, what are you going to do with this Costa Zoo fight?
27:07Where will you watch it?
27:09And half of this is over.
27:10Are you concerned that he might not hold up his end now?
27:12After the fight, it's the after party.
27:14I don't even know if I'm watching the fight.
27:16Oh, you're going to watch it.
27:17Don't give us that.
27:18Come on.
27:18I know you're watching this fight with that big payday out there in November.
27:21It's all good.
27:22I mean, you know, the money's not a big thing right now.
27:24You know what I'm saying?
27:24It's all good.
27:25I'm living good.
27:25I'm maintaining them.
27:27You know what I mean?
27:28Like I said, I just want to thank God for putting me here in this position.
27:30But I wish Costa Zoo well, and I'm really rooting for him in this fight.
27:34Because if he don't win, then I'll be all screwed up again.
27:37But so I really wish him well, and I hope he win.
27:39And hopefully in November, me and him should lock heads up.
27:42How much would you have preferred that Zoo would have lived up to what was bargained for
27:47in the first place and fought you tonight?
27:48Well, I mean.
27:49Or back even before it was postponed, before tonight?
27:51Well, I'm from your word is everything.
27:53And if you give a man your word, you know, that's your word.
27:57You know what I mean?
27:57And that's like shaking on it or making a bet, whatever.
28:00But evidently, he didn't live up to it.
28:02So what you want me to do?
28:03I mean, but, you know, I'm still here.
28:05I fight the best out there.
28:06I did not pick this guy.
28:07He's the number one contender.
28:08He worked his way up to the top.
28:11And I took him on, knocked him out.
28:13What can I keep saying?
28:14You know what I mean?
28:15They say, I can't be no black because nobody want to fight me.
28:17You know what I mean?
28:18Holla.
28:18Congratulations to you.
28:19And I'm sure we'll be talking to you after this fight one way or the other,
28:23regardless of the outcome.
28:24Congratulations, Zab.
28:24The outcome is good.
28:25All right.
28:26Steve, back to you.
28:27All right, Jim.
28:28The outcome is good for Zab Judah.
28:31As we take a look at the online results for Judah versus Vester.
28:36How about that?
28:37One to one.
28:38The fans at home gave round one to Vester.
28:40They might have called Judah's slip a knockdown.
28:43But in any event, Zab Judah with a KO round three convincingly over Allen Vester.
