Transcript
00:00It's going to give away to the new Mohegan Arena in the fall of 2001 capacity 5,000 here
00:103,500 for boxing nice crowd the scene for Lennox Lewis Elko Mavrovic in September 98
00:16the only other fight in this facility and the fans are waiting for the main event coming up next
00:22it's undefeated Zab Judah squaring off with former champ Teron Millett for the IBF junior
00:27weatherweight belt possibly the toughest assignment in the career of Judah
00:30well the champions have Judah is a talented fighter we know that with a rising marquee value
00:38the unbeaten southpaw from Brooklyn New York has been on a steady climb to the top since
00:42his pro career began in 1996 at the age of 18 Bobby as we bring you back in here
00:47what is your take on Judah's overall game Zabdell Judah this flamboyant undefeated southpaw is being
00:54touted by boxing insiders as one of our next superstars and why simply put because he's a complete
01:00pack
01:00sa negra de pondrá a gozar y roi tabaret te hará bailar con counter punch what surprises his opposition and
01:10impresses his critics is that he has very good power there's a big punch it's his overhand left
01:15it's helped him in 17 of 23 fights early you add all that supreme confidence and flamboyant personality
01:22he becomes even more dangerous with his speed his skill his power he is truly a complete fighter
01:28and you know his opponent Teron Millett is not here to dance like his last opponent junior
01:36a winner who was something out of dance fever uh I tell you what uh Millett is being seriously
01:42dissed by the IVF he feels he's being wrong you can believe that Teron Millett has come to fight
01:47Teron Millett is one of those fighters that has not received the credit that he truly deserves
01:51while he is often overlooked in his talent rich division when he enters the ring he's a force
01:56a force to be reckoned with
01:59Millett comes to fight he's an in-your-face swarming type of fighter that loves to put pressure on you
02:04as he comes at you from all types of angles plus he has real knockout power in both hands
02:09when this brawler steps into the ring he is always convinced he will be the last man standing and
02:15that is just his way so while the consensus is that judah is faster a lot faster than Millett
02:25you feel Millett hits harder well Millett hits a little harder but he has that physical power too
02:30he's also very strong and that's something zabju is going to have to deal with you have a combination
02:34here of two things you have power strength will of winning and in your face swarming style you got
02:40speed counter punching and elusiveness the only thing that gives me a little pause is there was
02:45another 140 pounder named sean bay mitchell who stopped my let in just one yeah and uh he was a
02:51left-hander as was virgil mcclennon who who took him 12 rounds before he was stopped in the 12th by
02:56Millett all right we heard what bobby had to say let's hear what judah and Millett had to say in terms of
03:00their strategy for tonight's matchup i'm gonna beat him i mean that's self-explanatory that's it
03:07i'm gonna beat him i'm not gonna say i'm gonna knock him out in such and such round or it's gonna
03:11go this many rounds or it's gonna end like this i'm gonna beat him i'm a fighter i work over just
03:17however he worked you know what i'm saying you know he may throw a punch and i mean i just might just
03:22you know i don't know you know what i'm saying it's just gonna come out of nowhere you know what i'm
03:25saying that's the name of the game you know fighters who make game plans sometimes they get you know
03:29thrown off a little bit you know what i'm saying like so i just go in there i just prepare for
03:33everything you know i'm prepared for a fast guy i'm prepared for a slow guy i'm prepared for a strong
03:37guy i'm prepared for a weak guy whatever you know what i'm saying a brawler a boxer whatever style
03:42you bring to the table i'm able to adapt to that so both seem to have the same notion that they will
03:48adapt to each other but you get the feeling that they also have plan a and plan b and plan c going in
03:55their heads judah's label of being pernell whitaker with a punch has become almost cliche the
03:59feeling is his speed and elusiveness will offset millet's heavy hands so bobby how do you see this
04:05matchup it was a very good matchup on paper steve you have a lot of things that parallel one another
04:10but when you're really looking at you're gonna take this fight apart you're looking at speed
04:13elusiveness and counter punch ability versus power in both hands incredible pressure and a real will
04:19to win and i'll tell you what if millet's on and in shape and he's in the zone we have a war on our
04:24hands well we've heard what the fighters had to say let's get your keys to victory for judah versus
04:29millet all right steve let's start with zab judah zab judah has put it first and foremost his speed
04:36it's great hand and foot he has to do it all with speed also push millet back millet cannot fight going
04:42backwards that's been established before and also sharp counter punching he'll make you miss and make you
04:47pay here against jan bergman he misses a simple jab left hand but then the right hook comes blazingly quick
04:54out of nowhere when bergman thinks that the combination is over bam there it is and bergman's
04:58in trouble now with his speed of foot he's on top of him all the way to the canvas
05:05for teron millet completely different story he wants a swarming crowd judah cause a frantic pace
05:11and also good body work to slow down the great legs that judah has and lastly he has to set the pace and
05:17make it something that judah is uncomfortable with that's his way of winning he doesn't need this big
05:21space here steve he needs to close the gap and when he does he'll close it with punches down the
05:26middle around the side up underneath from every possible angle watch as jimmy morgan cannot handle
05:31the swarm here they get a little tied up but once again he's a physical guy and very strong there's
05:37the big right hand morgan almost goes down and again millet is all over there's hooks there's right
05:42hands there's uppercuts down the middle and again he hurts morgan so the referee has to come in and put a
05:49hold to it give him a standing eight count well you've surgically dissected this dr chez let's go
05:56up to jimmy lennon jr for the ring walk ladies and gentlemen we are ready for the featured bout of the
06:05evening welcome the fighters as they make their way to the ring first here is tonight's challenger from
06:13st louis to ron melette
06:21to ron melette who feels he's being tested by a higher power given all of his adversity olympic
06:28gold medal dreams dashed in 92 the victim of a carjacking uh incident he was shot the stomach the
06:34bullet still lodged there remarkably still made the olympic trials he lost the belt outside the ring when
06:41he broke his hand couldn't defend against judah as mentioned earlier suing the ibf for withdrawing
06:47the title he says wrongfully recognition a constant struggle even as champion he's been bitter over that
06:54his only loss when he took a fight with current wba champion and southpaw underlying southpaw chombe
07:01mitchell on short notice in 95 he decked mitchell 20 seconds in and then he was stopped later in round
07:08one well bobby comes off the broken right hand the long layoff you think he should have taken a tune
07:16up before judo although mockingly he said this is my tune-up you know i don't know steve i really don't
07:21know if he's pushing himself rushing himself only he knows if he's ready rusty or somewhere in between
07:26but i know he's anxious to get that championship back he wants and he wants to bet he seems to have
07:31all the answers and he's verbally he says everything's in place only maledna's train to
07:34really know exactly if he's full or not well this is a uh a road st louis product a home game for
07:43brooklynite zap judah let's get ready to roll so teron malette who is singing along to his own ring walk
07:50uh music not hearing it from the crowd not getting the support at all except for a few fans back there

12:21how come you never did that steve would probably take me right out of my game plan
12:26yeah well as a fighter he's skillful strong dynamic has it all going unlimited future but with that
12:34the high expectations are they inflated in all due respect we remember mark freeland
12:39or if i can borrow a famous nickname is he the real deal his last opponent a dancer a runner awkward hard
12:47to hit cleanly will it be a welcome relief bobby or a tougher challenge against a fighter like valet who
12:52who's going to stand and mix it up and throw bombs in some ways it's going to be a relief and in other
12:56ways it's going to be a whole lot of extra challenge judah won't have to look for malet but malet also
13:01brings much more power it's much more dangerous than witter ever was any major mistake by zab judah
13:07tonight could cost him his title with witter that wasn't in the picture this is a much more dangerous
13:11opponent for zab judah and also for both of these fighters it's a proving ground all right let's take
13:17you to the tail of the tape judah a decade younger than malet the height is all even but judah with
13:24an unusually uh long reach five inch reach advantage with those long arms at yesterday's way in both
13:30below the 140 limit fight time weights judah a plus two 140 will let 146 a plus six and a half key
13:36rules for this title fight no standing eight count no three knockdown rule a fighter cannot be saved by the
13:41bell any round if an accidental headbutt occurs before the end of the fourth it's a no contest after the end of
13:47four we go to the scorecard so here at the uncus pavilion they'll have to clear out the smoke as

17:05i think zab's got the whole burro here okay let's go let's go right here
17:19all right gentlemen we went over the rules in the dressing room on the good clean fight
17:23protect yourselves at all times obey my commands at all times
17:27seconds look at the trunks here hero is good chief second i think from here up is good okay
17:38touch him up to look to both you michael ortega the center for the road away great gaspar ortega for
17:45carmen basilio emil griffith kid gavilan zap judah the sharp southpaw with the heavy hands the strong
17:53left and left and the big right uppercut keep an eye on that one teramolette a very good athlete
17:58aggressive brawler terrific hand speed power in both hands
18:04and he looks for the bottom here they go
18:09those two rounds would be very important steve who can set the tone to implement their style
18:15judah
18:15in the silver trunks
18:25the light realizes of course judah has the quick hands of the nice uppercut but he says
18:29he will adjust to what the southpaw brings
18:35judah as mentioned said i look at this as my first world title fight after the fight i'll be able to
18:40say i beat a world champion approaches the fight with the idea he's the matador malette's the bull
18:46he's the elusive one it's strength versus technique well you can be pretty sure malette's gonna be
18:50coming for him that's something malette loves to do yeah he knows malette is coming into swing that
18:55malette is strong a bomber but he doesn't feel that malette is as skillful a technician as he is
19:01it's already evident to me that malette's gonna need to make some adjustments regarding the speed
19:05speed right now big factor it's gonna be a big problem for malette he's gonna have to do something
19:10maybe around the body and malette never really answered us about the current status of his injured
19:15right hand but showed us a nut on the top of the hand said he still had a screw in the hand
19:19right i had a similar injury but what i had was a bone fusion he had his bones screwed together
19:24well that just got wobbled momentarily
19:34elect just pulling away
19:38missing with the left uppercut
19:41judah quickly in and out
19:44judah just looks too fast for the lead speed is the big factor right here
19:49speed versus strength no break oh i got it i got it okay listen up on the break you hit him on the
19:55break okay listen up no hitting on the break to teron malette from michael ortega out of hamburg
20:02here in connecticut
20:04judah wailing away lefts and rights to the head of malette
20:08malette
20:11oh out of nowhere judah goes down
20:14trusty left hook and he got him go
20:16oh he's right in my eyes judah's okay but it's one of the things this is a man who's got a rule of the
20:21fight
20:26two fights
20:30but judah was winning that exchange and then out of nowhere came that shot to the belly
20:34back comes judah with the left hand and all right and judah staggered
20:38malette right now he's got him in a little bit of trouble
20:49to ron malette scoring a knockdown
20:57final seconds of the opening round
21:02time
21:03look
21:15come to your left and you're sitting there waiting
21:23quit waiting you know you have to pressure the man you're like a sitting target you ain't moving nothing you're just sitting there waiting too quick for that
21:29looking for the clean good side okay just let your hands go that's all
21:33judah was winning the exchange and then all of a sudden it was the big left hook
21:37left hook
21:39it's ron malette
21:41i don't know he just walks into it
21:45ron malette was actually much more hurt and there you see judah walks right into the left hook he just walks right into it
21:51malette throwing hard here from the overhead he's losing
21:55the sequence here you see malette after the knockdown doing what he was doing before the knockdown dominating
22:01milette but he's doing his feet steve
22:03round two
22:05round two
22:07scheduled for 12
22:09zav judah
22:11down in the first round
22:13after he was dominated
22:15bobby chez
22:17how do you score that run
22:21well
22:23zed wins most of the rounds
22:25until he gets knocked down
22:27so you could call it 9-8 or 10-9
22:29for malette malette still wins the round because it knocked down
22:31some of the judges might have a 10-8
22:33it's it's a it's a one-point round or a two-point round that is very discretionary with the judges
22:41judah looks to be a little more cautious as you might understand right now
22:47he knows he just can't stand in front of this guy with the heavy hands
22:51malette
22:55malette highly motivated
22:59as is judah
23:01malette looking to win back recapture his old title
23:05that he was stripped of
23:09in this fight against john burton he got a little careless
23:11coming in this fight he got a little too excited
23:13little too anxious
23:15not much of a difference in what he did with his hands
23:17and has come down his chin hanging out
23:19and you really have to wonder what the victories over
23:21jan bergman and junior
23:23what are really mean
23:25teron malette just feels that judah has not
23:27fought the good fighters to get
23:29to where he is and that he has
23:31so he's trying to prove a point
23:33steve i can look in the eyes of both of these fighters
23:35right now malette
23:37doesn't have the same look he had when he started
23:39and he dropped the champion
23:41this look is not the same as it was
23:43as he started and judah's is back
23:45to where he started
23:47maybe malette in somewhat disbelief
23:49that he did what he did
23:51in that first round
23:53yeah but i think the disbelief
23:57wasn't the knockdown the disbelief was
23:59the fact that he got hurt so often by judah
24:01and that he hasn't adjusted to that speed
24:03as quick as he thought he could
24:05makes the belt
24:07under a minute remaining in round two
24:09action packed
24:11straight left hand by judah
24:13and down goes malette
24:15a flash knockdown
24:17up in a second
24:19good
24:21hey y'all right
24:23the letdown for only the second time in his career
24:25the first in 1995
24:27to another southpaw named shambay mitchell
24:29straight left hand right down the middle
24:31what a beautiful punch it was
24:33judah is now trying to finish him off
24:35another straight left down the middle
24:37by judah
24:39a right left combination by judah
24:41malette is not moving his head
24:43he's gotta move his head
24:45he's gonna survive this round
24:47malette in all kinds of trouble
24:49but the left with a powerful right out of nowhere
24:51back comes judah and the two lats
24:53steve this fight is gonna be a knockout
24:55looking for the other
24:57you're in a wall
24:59now
25:01hey
25:03sit down
25:07look
25:09you gotta go to the left
25:11you're sitting there waiting on the trap
25:13you're sitting there waiting on the trap
25:15you're sitting there waiting on the trap
25:17where you miss a knock
25:19you can't sit there and wait on it
25:21that's right
25:23jump up on the jab and bring your feet up
25:24and keep it working
25:25you're sitting there too long
25:26you're letting the pie shot you
25:27he dictating
25:28you can't let him dictate
25:30step in with your step
25:32keep your hands moving
25:34this is a classic one-two except it's from the southwest side
25:38jab left hand
25:40right down the middle
25:42malette never even really acknowledge that he sees it
25:45he just walks right into it
25:47bang
25:51one of the more clean knockdowns you'll ever witness
25:55due to following up
25:57and the two of them just flailing away
25:59turning this into a good old donny bro
26:03run
26:06round three
26:10malette's corner too steve said you're sitting right there
26:12you're not moving your head or your feet
26:13get out of the way
26:14step to the side
26:15you're just waiting on him
26:16he knows where you're gonna be
26:18this fight certainly delivering on its promise to this point
26:22down in the first round will let down in the second.
26:37And there has been not much let up.
26:46What a left hand by Zab Judah.
26:49Measuring him out with that right jab
26:52and then unloading with the big leg.
26:56And then a heavy right hand by Bollett.
27:00And that's got heavier hands.
27:02Judah's quick and sharp and push him.
27:05What a war.
27:07Look at the shoulder movement by Judah.
27:10With his hands down low.
27:15Duckling up on the left.
27:17Hammering away with the left hand.
27:21And then the left uppercut to the chin.
27:24You watch Malik's shoulders.
27:25He's squaring up to Judah way too much.
27:28That's a big target.
27:29We've got as quick and accurate as Zab Judah.
27:39You hear the crowd reaction.
27:41Channing for Judah in unison.
27:49Another straight left down the middle by Zab.
27:56Those are thunderous punches by Judah.
27:58Jordan will actually stick and fly every stretch!
28:00This is quite a pace for a guy that hasn't fought in a year to run their left.
28:14He's got a lot of showbiz in him.
28:16And a lot of talent.
28:18You know, he gets his rhythm in that routine.
28:20And every once in a while, he makes a mistake with it.
28:24And that is not keeping the pressure on setting the pace.
28:26He's waiting for one punch at a time.
28:28Very, very difficult.
28:30The counterpunch of guys.
28:32He's got a lot of pressure on setting the pace.
28:34He's got a lot of pressure on setting the pace.
28:38He's got a lot of pressure on setting the pace.
28:40He's got a lot of pressure on setting the pace.
28:42It's very difficult to counterpunch a guy this fast and this quick.
28:45He cannot wait.
28:46He's got to go first.
28:47He's got to go first.
28:48Well, this is Judah's first fight as a main event fighter.
28:52And he wants to really put on a show and make a statement here.
28:56And validate his hold on the title.
29:00Mike, step up!
29:01Hold up, hold up…
29:02Hold up, hold up.
29:03We can't.
29:04Okay.
29:05Oh, shit.
29:06Sit down.
29:07Yeah.
29:08Yeah, yeah.
29:09Go to the left.
29:10Okay.
29:11You're dipping to the inside though.
29:12And you're in as it rains.
29:13All right.
29:14Get out of the way.
29:15Come on.
29:16Get out of the way!
29:18Okay, you're dipping to the inside, though, and you're in as it rains.
29:24Get out of the way!
29:27Get out of the way!
29:31You move!
29:34Don't give a talk.
29:35You're having trouble when you're dying.
29:37Okay.
29:38Snap that jam.
29:39Snap that jam.
29:40Snap that jam.
29:41Snap that jam.
29:42Snap that jam.
29:43Snap that jam.
29:44Snap that jam.
29:45Snap that jam.
29:46Snap that jam.
29:47Snap that jam.
29:48Snap that jam.
29:49Snap that jam.
29:50Snap that jam right over there.
29:51Just move behind your punches, Devin.
29:52Juna's just so quick, so fast.
29:54He's also very slick.
29:55Hard from the left to hit him.
29:57He's missing, missing, hitting nothing but air, Steve.
30:05Is Juna having some difficulty with his eyes right here, Bobby?
30:08That's what they said in this corner, but I could hear clearly what it was he was having trouble with.
30:14The old Juna in front of him.
30:15The old Juna in front of his father, the head of team Juna, seven brothers, all fighters.
30:24And he's covering up there, Juna.
30:27Big smile as he looks into his corner and talks to Millett.
30:30Round four.
30:31Round four.
30:32Round four.
30:37Juna down to the first, Millett down to the second.
30:40There's a straight right hand right on the nose by Millett.
30:45Every once in a while, Juna gets a little too cocky, a little too showbody and flashy.
30:50And he makes a mistake, and he gets caught.
30:52Gets off balancer, gets caught off guard.
31:02But he does know how to put on a show.
31:04Action has slowed down quite a bit.
31:06I think both of those fighters recognize that they're making too many mistakes and leaving themselves hang out.
31:11No, no, no, no.
31:12That was a trip, Bobby.
31:13No knockdown.
31:14No knockdown.
31:15No knockdown.
31:16Get in the corner.
31:17Get in the corner.
31:18Get in the corner.
31:19Get close.
31:20Well, that's tripping over Juna's feet.
31:30Juna comes out, Millett, so quickly.
31:33He just can't see those punches coming.
31:35It's like a blur.
31:36Millett's got to work his way in behind the jab, even if the jab doesn't land.
31:40He can't come in behind.
31:41Wild left hooks, right hands, and upper cuts.
31:43He's wasting too much energy.
31:44He's letting Zab Juna set him up.
31:46Gorgeous left hand and a combination by Juna the head.
31:49Working him over.
31:50Down he goes for the second time.
31:54He almost tumbled out of the ring.
31:56Five, six, seven.
31:57Millett says he's okay.
31:58He got up very quickly.
31:59You talk about looking off balance.
32:01And now Juna again wants to put the finishing touches on here in round four.
32:14It's gonna be the speed.
32:15That's the difference.
32:16Millett is not adjusting to the speed.
32:17No, no.
32:18Come here, Millett.
32:19Keeping his hands tight.
32:20Fire in combination.
32:21And a furious assault here by Juna.
32:25Almost scoring at win.
32:27Come up.
32:28Come up.
32:29Come up.
32:30Millett looks weathered.
32:33He looks like he's ready to go again.
32:36There he goes.
32:37That wasn't a knockdown.
32:38I don't know if they're gonna cause a knockdown.
32:40That was not a knockdown.
32:41There was a sheer exhaustion.
32:43He swung so hard over the head of Zab Juna.
32:46He just missed.
32:47His momentum carried him to the floor.
32:49He's down for the third time.
32:50And oh, the referee, Michael Ortega, did not get the response he was ready for.
32:55And he calls it off.
32:56It's over.
32:57It's over.
32:58It's over.
32:59And Zab Juna ends it here at round four.
33:02I think Juna was still here.
33:03When they go back and look at his tape, it's not a clean knockdown, Steve.
33:06It really isn't.
33:09But he did not give the necessary response, apparently, that Michael Ortega, the referee,
33:15it's not a lot of to hear what he said.
33:16Are you all right?
33:17Do you want to continue?
33:18Yes.
33:19One, two, three.
33:20Well, that's back was to us, so we couldn't see what he was saying or hear what he was
33:23saying.
33:24But we'll have to take Ortega's judgment for him.
33:27Ortega might have just seen something in his eyes because I saw that he was still stunned,
33:32still hurt, but I'll tell you.
33:33You did exactly what.
33:34You did exactly what.
33:35What even a knockdown?
33:36Really?
33:37I think it was academic.
33:38I thought it was a good stoppage.
33:40Because I thought that he looked like a rag dog.
33:44And that he was going to continue to be punished by this man.
33:49I think it was inevitable.
33:51But I can understand, as a former fighter, your mentality, where you come from.
33:55You know, the guy's still up.
33:56He's still doing it.
33:57He wants to continue fighting.
33:59But in this case, maybe, like you say, he saw something in Millette's eyes, his face.
34:04Millette didn't respond, and there was no way he was going to let the kid get hurt.
34:08Well, I can't agree with that stoppage, regardless of how it's perceived.
34:11The referee needs to at least see him absorb some punishment.
34:15The punch that was evidently the knockdown punch, I don't even think landed.
34:19I think it just whizzed past as he was on his way to the floor from his own momentum, Steve,
34:24of missing a punch against Zab.
34:27Well, there's no question that Judah was in total command.
34:34And Teron Millette, if anything, displaying guts and will,
34:39hanging in there against this vicious, lightning-quick barrage of Zab Judah.
34:45Steve, in all honesty, I got to tell you, I think Zab Judah worked perfectly,
34:49just as he was supposed to.
34:50But I really don't think Teron Millette or his people modified his style,
34:54which he has in a very tough, aggressive, grueling style.
34:57They needed to modify his style with some defense and stuff punches and bang back.
35:01And he didn't.
35:02He leapt in with big shots, and he's going so wide open.
35:05And Millette looking dazed and confused right now.
35:09Well, there's no question that Zab Judah has legitimized his hold
35:14on the IBF Junior Welterweight Championship.
35:17A very satisfying victory for Judah, who told us going in,
35:22this felt like his first world title twice.
35:24You were just exchanging.
35:25That's why you were standing there.
35:26Well, let me ask you.
35:27Now you can say I beat a world champion.
35:29I said, huh?
35:30OK.
35:31Oh, boom!
35:32I'm the best, right?
35:34Talk about it.
35:35Huh?
35:36Talk about it.
35:37You can talk about it.
35:38It's OK.
35:39Well, look at the first slip.
35:44There's a lot of wild punching.
35:47There he swings and just kind of trips over Zab's feet.
35:51That was very, very early.
35:53A tower!
35:54A tower!
35:55A tower!
35:56A tower!
35:57A tower!
35:58First knockdown in the round is a little bit of a delayed effect.
36:00Watch the right hook catch him on the chin as he's coming up.
36:05Right there is a left hand.
36:06Sorry, there's a left hand.
36:08A little bit of a delayed reaction.
36:10Millette goes down almost face first.
36:12Now we're going to look at the end of the fight.
36:17I really didn't see a punch here.
36:18There's a miss.
36:19Swing and a miss!
36:23There's no real...
36:24No, he's on his way to the floor.
36:25There's no knockdown punch there.
36:27Millette off balance, swinging wildly.
36:30Watch it again.
36:31He doesn't really get hit.
36:33Swings right here.
36:36You'll see a big, wild right hand.
36:38He's on his way to the floor.
36:39Zab misses him with both of those shots.
36:41One hand hits off his shoulder.
36:42The other one misses completely.
36:44Now let's look at his face.
36:56Well, you know, he did say that he was all right.
37:00He nodded his head affirmatively.
37:01He said he was all right, but the referee, Ortega,
37:04obviously had a different agenda.
37:06He had other ideas.
37:07He did not want to see Millette get hurt any longer.
37:10But you're right.
37:11That was a swing and a miss,
37:12although he looked very exhausted, dazed, and confused.
37:15It was a little right hand on the way down.
37:17As Millette was already falling,
37:18it hit him, it looked like, in the shoulder and the chest area.
37:20But slappish, not hard, not a solid pound.
37:24And then the one behind the head missed completely.
37:26There was no clean knock down there.
37:28And he did answer the referee back.
37:30The referee just didn't like what he saw.
37:31I also don't see much of an aggressive argument here from Teron Millette.
37:35Perhaps we'll pick his brain with Tony Page later.
37:38Let's get it up to Jimmy Lennon Jr. right now for the official numbers.
37:45Ladies and gentlemen, we have the time of 2 minutes 47 seconds in round number 4.
37:51Our referee in charge, Michael Ortega, stops the contest.
37:54He's the winner by way of technical knockout, still undefeated,
37:59and still the IBF junior welterweight champion of the world,
38:04Zab Super Judah.
38:09I ain't going nowhere.
38:11Kostya Zou, bring it on, baby.
38:12Bring it on.
38:13Come on, Zab.
38:14Come on, Zab.
38:15Come on, Zab.
38:16Bring it on, Zab.
38:17Bring it on, Zab.
38:18Well, you heard Zab Judah.
38:19Now it's time to move on and unify the title.
38:22Bring on Kostya Zou.
38:23Bring on Shambay Mitchell.
38:25Enter Julio.
38:26Perhaps Randall Bailey, who recently was upset by Julio,
38:30due to second successful defense.
38:32Now 24-0 with 1-0 contest.
38:3518 KOs.
38:36Fourth round TKO over the former champion Teron Millette.
38:44Before we throw it up to Tony Page,
38:47we're going to actually listen to the referee in that final sequence
38:51and see if we can gain some further insight
38:53into exactly what happened there down the stretch
38:56in that fourth round.
38:58Four, five, six, seven, eight.
39:13Hey, come here.
39:14Come to me.
39:15You all right?
39:16Continue?
39:17Are you sure?
39:18No.
39:19No.
39:20Well, I did say he is when they said continue,
39:24but it wasn't with much conviction.
39:27And there's the referee, Mr. Ortega,
39:29who I don't know.
39:30I thought he did a good job.
39:33Let's get it up to Tony Page.
39:34Tony.
39:35Thanks very much, Steve.
39:36Here with the guy who is officially your champion in your mind, aren't you?
39:39Yes.
39:40I feel like I'm the best right now.
39:42I did a great job.
39:43First of all, I want to thank God for giving me this beautiful win
39:45for the Mohican Sunday, my main events,
39:47and the whole showtime production for having me on.
39:49It was an honor to fight Teron Millette
39:51and, you know, fighting as a champion.
39:53And now I can say I'll be the champion, and I'm happy.
39:55You know, I just want to move on and keep moving on
39:57and just, you know, go ahead and claim my fame.
39:59That's it.
40:00He came right at you, and you were shooting some shots at him.
40:02And when you hurt him early, did you think you had him?
40:03Well, Teron Millette's a strong guy.
40:05You know what I'm saying?
40:06I came in there, and, you know, I got knocked down again.
40:08I don't know what's wrong with me in this place,
40:09but I think this place is bad luck.
40:10Well, he can send.
40:11I don't know.
40:12But anyway, you know, he's a good fighter.
40:13He was strong.
40:14He came in well prepared, such as myself.
40:16And we got it on, like, two champions that we're supposed to.
40:19Even though he dropped it, you didn't back up.
40:20You stayed right on him.
40:21Why?
40:22Well, I mean, that's the heart of a champion.
40:23You know what I'm saying?
40:24I mean, and the same for him.
40:25I dropped him.
40:26He got right up and came right back at me.
40:27You know, like I said, I'm a fighter.
40:29I'm giving Tron Millette a great bit of respect.
40:31You know what I'm saying?
40:32Like the champions should do.
40:33When you got knocked down, what did you think?
40:35I just feel like, wow.
40:37Well, you know, I popped up quick again.
40:38I wasn't hurting anything, you know?
40:39It was a flash like that.
40:40He's a strong fighter.
40:41This is what happens when you get in there with good competition.
40:44You know what I'm saying?
40:45I mean, and when I'm in the competition, this is what I love to do.
40:47I love to fight good competition and show that I'm the best.
40:50You showed it tonight.
40:51You showed some speed.
40:52What do you want to do in the future?
40:53There's some good fighters at 140.
40:55You seem like you want to be the man.
40:56Yes, yes, yes.
40:57Who's next?
40:58I want, uh, who's, um, Kasazu.
41:01You're sure now.
41:02Sean Babe Mitchell.
41:03Uh, who else?
41:04That's it.
41:05Kamacho, if you want to get it on.
41:06I don't care, man.
41:07Listen, I'm going to go down to Hall of Fame, one of the best pound-for-pound fighters
41:10in the world.
41:11And in order for me to go in there, I got to beat those guys.
41:13No disrespect to them or anything.
41:14It's nothing personal.
41:15It's a job.
41:16It's the same way as well.
41:17If they want to be the IBF champ, they got to come and be Zab Judah.
41:20That's the whole thing.
41:21In the third round, when you did that little shimmy, was that a tribute to Pernell Whitaker?
41:24Yeah, to Pernell Whitaker, I want to say I love you and I miss you.
41:28And I want to give a shout-out to Emile, Mike Tyson's son.
41:32Today's the birthday.
41:33Happy birthday, Emile.
41:34And this title's not in question.
41:35In this championship fight, what did you learn?
41:38I learned that, uh, I'm a real champion.
41:42I learned that I'm a real champion.
41:43You know, I took a great shot.
41:44Went down.
41:45It's a good world opponent.
41:46We had the same record.
41:4821 wins, one loss.
41:49Now, what can they say now?
41:50Zab Judah never fought nobody still?
41:52Come on.
41:53Does the belt feel a little sweeter today?
41:55Yeah, the belt, I mean, the belt never, it's still the same.
41:58Instead of the gold and the diamonds still sparkling, still bling bling.
42:02You know?
42:03You got to get that watch from Jim.
42:04Let me ask Mr. Training Father, how would you rate his performance tonight, Gil?
42:08Yeah, I'll give him an A, a double A, and a triple A.
42:10All right?
42:11He listens.
42:12He did well.
42:13I mean, we did everything to the book.
42:15We had a hard training camp.
42:16You know what I mean?
42:17Rigorous.
42:18But we came through tonight with flying colors.
42:20All my, all my smart partners out there.
42:22Same thing off the rack.
42:23Heck with that.
42:24Yeah.
42:25Don't need to do that.
42:26Eleven to go around, obviously.
42:27A lot of people.
42:28Milet in here?
42:29Teron?
42:30Yeah.
42:31We're going to show you the end of the fight on the monitor, Tourette, Tourette, Tourette.
42:36I know it's tough for you, but what do you think?
42:38Oh, I mean, he caught me with a nice shot, true enough.
42:41I thought I could have continued, but he did.
42:44He caught me nice.
42:45What about, what about the stoppage?
42:47You thought a little bit too premature?
42:48Well, I mean, I thought I had my senses.
42:51You know, I came at him, like the ref said.
42:53The ref said, come to me.
42:54I had my senses.
42:55And he stopped me, so I can't do nothing but respect what he said.
43:00But there is one thing I do want to ask.
43:02What is that?
43:03Tasha B.
43:04I know you're looking at me, baby.
43:05All I want to know is, will you marry me?
43:07Win, lose, or draw?
43:08Marry me.
43:09That's nice, but what do you think about, what do you think about him as a fighter?
43:13The best ever for him?
43:14Oh, no, no.
43:15I still have to give it to Virgil.
43:16You know, Virgil, Virgil fought me.
43:18He just caught me with a nice shot.
43:20I didn't, as far as I'm concerned, didn't get a chance to come back, even though I was hurt.
43:25Or should I say down, and I came and got up.
43:28But, I mean, I give it to him.
43:30I tip my hat to him.
43:31He did what he had to do.
43:32And he's a better man tonight.
43:33When you dropped him in the first round, did you think you had him there?
43:35No, I was hoping I did.
43:37I mean, because he does possess a nice little power.
43:39Like I said, I tip my hat off to him, even though I don't have a hat on.
43:43But I tip my hat.
43:44He's a nice fighter.
43:45I mean, he's about the business, he's quick, and he has a nice amount of power.
43:49So, for me to take something from him would be ignorant.
43:52He's a good fighter.
43:53What'd you learn tonight?
43:55Oh, to train better and not go to my damn right when I'm fighting a left-hander.
44:00Into a left.
44:01Keep going to my left.
44:02Yeah, exactly.
44:03And how'd the hand hold up, the right hand?
44:04It was cool.
44:05It was cool.
44:06It didn't bother me at all.
44:07When are you going to find out if you're married now?
44:09I guess when I get home, because she knows I love her.
44:12So, I mean, win, lose, or draw.
44:15I know I love her and I want to be with her, so.
44:17Thanks a lot, Teron Millet.
44:18Let's go to ringside.
44:19Steve Albert.
44:20Tony, high drama here at Uncasville, Connecticut.
44:23That's the second time I've seen a fighter lose and propose in the post-fight sequence.
44:30Nigel Benn in England, I saw him do that.
44:32Proposed to somebody at ringside after losing a fight.
44:35This time it's Teron Millet proposing to Tasha V, perhaps back in his hometown of St. Louis.
44:43We hope things work out there.
44:44But Zav Judah coming off the canvas in the first round to knock down Teron Millet three
44:50times over the course of the next few rounds, ending it with a fourth round TKO.
44:55What do you think on the replay as far as that last knockdown was concerned?
44:59Did he hit him at any point?
45:01Well, he hit him a shot right before he started to swing back.
45:04He hurt him with a shot, and then Teron threw a wild overhand right.
45:07He was on his way to the floor, and he got caught with another one on the way down.
45:11But it wasn't part of the knockdown, but it still may have shaken Millet up.
45:14If you look at it right there, he was already on his way to the floor as he gets hit with that right hand.
45:19So it's hard to say if that did some extra damage.
45:21I thought that he answered the questions of the referee well.
45:24I thought he stepped to the referee when he said step to me, and the referee just saw something in his eyes
45:29or just didn't agree with Teron Millet that he was okay.
45:33Bobby, speaking of the referee, we feel compelled to tell the viewers that we would love to talk to referee Michael Ortega,
45:41but the rules here, there's Michael, the rules here as with Las Vegas and some of the other commissions around the country
45:48do not make the referee available to be interviewed after the fight.
45:52So unfortunately, we can't get to talk to Michael Ortega.
45:55Yeah, I think Las Vegas started that, and sneakiness catches on.
45:58Well, it's unfortunate.
45:59We mentioned that a couple of weeks ago with Richard Steele in one of the fights there.
46:04I think it was Lance Mount Whitaker, Robert Daniels, the guy you fought.
46:07And I think that just compounds the situation and makes it more controversial
46:11because then it gives the feeling that something's being hidden, and you don't want to have that feeling.
46:17It suggests that there's an overall agenda of a commission to lay a blanket statement from the press.
46:22Anytime there's a political controversy, somebody comes out there and spins it.
46:26This is like spin master for referees, indiscretions, referees inexperienced, referees anything.
46:33And referees, they're men. They have a job. They do their job. They do in public.
46:36They should be accountable, and they should say why they did what they did and let the people hear.
46:41Yep, and I don't know too many referees who never met a microphone they didn't like.
46:45So I'm sure they'd love to talk, but they're being muzzled.
46:49All right, well, Zav Judah took the fight out of the referees and out of the judges' hands, I should say.
46:54And here's how the online scoring results were from the folks back home.
46:58Judah ahead three rounds to one. Of course, Judah went down in that first round.
47:03And if you took part, we thank you so much for your participation.
47:07Well, I think it's pretty safe to say, even though there was just a little controversy there at the end.
47:13Some may have felt that Millett could have continued the fight,
47:16although I think it was going to be a material academic.
47:18I think he was going to get his head handed to him eventually.
47:20But that's just my opinion.
47:22Do you think that Judah completely legitimized his hold on the IVF junior welterweight title?
47:26I certainly do. I think the fight was headed toward the eventual knockout of Theron Millett or TKO.
47:31I think that Theron Millett came gallantly, didn't make some of the adjustments he needed to make.
47:35But, Steve, I really do believe Zav Judah just made a serious statement to the rest of the 140-pound division.
47:41Zav Judah alongside the venerable, ageless boxing trainer Lou Duva.
47:46Well, Judah and Kostya Zou seem to be on a collision course right now.
47:50Judah keeps clamoring for Kostya Zou. You can hear him there in the ring earlier.
47:55How would you handicap that matchup if it came to be?
47:58Well, I think coming off this performance, this magnificent performance by Zav Judah,
48:01we have to maybe give him a little edge there with boxing ability and speed.
48:04At the same time, Theron Millett, a good puncher. Kostya Zou is an even better puncher.
48:08He's got a sneaky little defense with that left hand that he keeps out there.
48:11Very different fight. Much more of a chess match, I believe, than a Donny Brook like we saw here tonight.
48:16I think that's a great fight. I'd love to see it.
48:18Interesting fight, too, would be with Shambay Mitchell and Zav Judah.
48:21A couple of left-handers.
48:22Two southpaws going at it. One with a lot more experience. The other, young and hungry.
48:27Yep, yep, Zav Judah. Boy, is he young and hungry.
48:30Let's give you a final recap of tonight's results from Mohegan Sun.
48:36And for the second straight fight, although this time in controversial fashion,
48:40Juan Liscano defeated a former champion.
48:42Cruising Street, a six-billion-dollar business.
