00:00The
00:30Hello and welcome to Sports Scene.
00:37I'm Stephen Thompson, this is Kevin Thompson
00:40and for the use of you who enjoy a fun fact,
00:43we share a birthday.
00:44That's a fun over, so on with the football.
00:46Every game carries weight at this stage of the season
00:49and we have three on the way.
00:52No chance of this first one being off for Dundee United
00:55as they travel to face Falkirk.
00:56Four late games ago, Falkirk led Dundee United by five points.
01:02That gap is now up to 14
01:04as Dundee United have taken nothing from their last four games
01:07while Falkirk have won three of four.
01:11Falkirk survived, conceding a late penalty to get past Dundee.
01:15Scott Baines recovered from illness to play today.
01:17Liam McCann, Brad Spencer and Calvin Miller join him in the starting 11.
01:21Hogarth, Adams, Cartwright and Ross all available today off the bench.
01:26The United should have hosted Aberdeen midweek.
01:29They lost last time out in Edinburgh against Hibs.
01:32There are three alterations to that side.
01:34Ryan Strain, Jura Yuvu and Neil Ferruccio all come in.
01:38Nikula Miller is away, having been sold for a tidy profit.
01:41Sam Clearharding and Dario Namo both give way.
01:44Ferry round the corner.
01:54Prisca Vlapanovski, the North Macedonian.
01:57Hopped on his behind.
02:02This will be more encouraging for Jim Goodwin.
02:05United are going to conjure something up from the set play.
02:09It's intentionally deep.
02:11Ross Cretton with a header.
02:13Scott Bain with a matching save.
02:16Well, he scored against Hibs last time out.
02:18It's a fabulous header.
02:20Bain watched it all the way.
02:21On to Miller.
02:29Miller with a lovely dummy.
02:31Into the middle it goes.
02:34And there stays with another good header away.
02:38Dylan Tate just wanted that more.
02:40Tate.
02:42Interfering goes.
02:43Set up.
02:43Chance.
02:44Stewart opening up.
02:46And Ben Brugio scores again.
02:50Got the win in midweek against Dundee.
02:52Against the opener.
02:54Against Dundee United.
02:57Well, Jim Goodwin looks unhappy.
02:58He wanted more from his team.
03:00There was Falkirk who showed the desire to win the ball back.
03:04Stewart.
03:04A little touch on the inside.
03:06And that is a comfortable finish.
03:09Ben Brugio.
03:10On his first loan away from Aston Villa.
03:12And he's having the time of his life with Falkirk.
03:21Will Ferry.
03:23The arm art gallery.
03:27Ferry plays it in.
03:29Breaks back.
03:30Rojo not so good that time.
03:31Goalkeeper wants it.
03:32Drops it.
03:33It's a mistake by Bain.
03:37He called for it.
03:38He came for it.
03:39He wanted it.
03:39He didn't get it.
03:40And Ross Graham helped himself to the equaliser.
03:48Goals in back-to-back games for Ross Graham.
03:51Brugio put it up.
03:53Henderson got in the way of his goalkeeper.
03:56Well, Bain shouted for it.
03:57Wanted to come for it.
03:59Came through.
04:00Simply dropped it.
04:01And Ross Graham.
04:02Great anticipation.
04:03That might be the break that Dunia United really, really needs.
04:09It's one apiece at Falkirk.
04:14John Blunt.
04:15The 75th game in charge today for Falkirk.
04:21Spun into the middle.
04:23The header was one.
04:24And off the crossbar by Lewis Nielsen.
04:27Just had too much of a loop in it.
04:28The goalkeeper coming back for the crossbar struck.
04:38Shout for Hambo.
04:39It was on the wrong side of the referee.
04:46Spencer.
04:48That's all it's.
04:52Fullback to fullback.
04:53That's a teasing ball there.
04:58And it's a brilliant finish.
05:01How about that for a 1-2?
05:05Lisa on the inside.
05:06On to McCann who waited and lofted the perfect pass.
05:12And the on-rushing finish.
05:14Pitch Falken back ahead.
05:18Well, Lisa with the goal.
05:20Well, he's set up and then continued his run.
05:24And that is beautifully done.
05:26Off the volley.
05:28McCann with the cross.
05:30Lisa with the finish.
05:31Fullback to fullback.
05:33Lead restored.
05:41Jim Goodwin.
05:42Stoic face.
05:43There's Ryan Strait.
05:50Opportunity to get it straight back.
05:52That's our chance for Sybil to roll it in.
05:56Well, you don't need to power the ball home.
05:58Sometimes it's all about placement.
06:01As Craig Sybil has just shown.
06:08The former Falkirk man makes it two apiece.
06:14Well, Dundee United led twice when they came here earlier in the season.
06:18They trailed twice today.
06:22And if you're looking for perfection and placement, Craig Sybil showed the way.
06:28Deflected out to him.
06:30And how about that?
06:31Calmly done.
06:32Close you.
06:36Lee Marsh.
06:38Dundee United need to close him down.
06:40Tried the shot.
06:41Breaks on to Calvin Miller.
06:44There's the short pass.
06:48Tate.
06:50Lisa goes again.
06:51Great save.
06:51Actually, Maynard Brewer.
06:56He's just wondering if the chance had gone for Falkirk.
06:59Stewart lead it back to Tate.
07:01Lisa cracked it in.
07:03That's a really good stop.
07:08Rattling along at a fatal pace.
07:10Well, Sapsford went in.
07:19Well, it's one or two inquiries from Falkirk for a penalty here.
07:23Falkirk bench looked pretty calm about it.
07:25But watch this.
07:27Sapsford.
07:28Tell you what, you wouldn't want your centre forward to be making that kind of challenge.
07:34Not enough in the end.
07:35And Stevenson plays it forward.
07:42Orters.
07:43Henderson.
07:45And the worst cover.
07:47So it is a yellow card.
07:49It was pretty cynical.
07:51By Liam Henderson.
07:53He can't complain, but he knew what was coming.
07:57Well, the referee is having this checked by Steve McLean and Greg Aitken.
08:02And the initial feeling was there might have been cover.
08:06But the referee is being asked to have another look.
08:13Nielsen's ahead of the ball.
08:15But would he have caught up with the man?
08:18Certainly the other defender on the right-hand side was too far away.
08:22Big call.
08:22It's the first red card of the season for Falkirk.
08:30And Liam Henderson is ordered off.
08:31Civil's.
08:46Sivek.
08:47Out to Strain.
08:49Strain for the byline.
08:51It's a decent cross.
08:52Opportunity at the back post.
08:54And United have the lead for the first time today.
09:00Julius Eskisson with his first Dundee United goal.
09:03Fires them ahead.
09:11Well, Falkirk were starting to look a little stretched.
09:15Only being unable to hold out.
09:17Strain with a cross.
09:25Really good one.
09:26The head flick was unintentional.
09:28But then the great day in for Dundee United with a great finish.
09:33And Julius Eskisson with his first goal for the club controlled it well.
09:39And through a pile of bodies found a corner of the net.
09:42Falkirk 2.
09:44Dundee United 3.
09:46What a game at Falkirk this afternoon.
09:50It is all over.
09:53Falkirk led twice but couldn't seal the deal.
09:56The red card.
09:57A big turning point.
09:58But it's Dundee United's first league win of 2026.
10:02A five-goal thriller at Falkirk.
10:03And it's the visitors who triumph.
10:06It's finished.
10:07Falkirk 2.
10:08Dundee United 3.
10:12We're coming into a really defining stage in the season.
10:15With the amount of games that we have coming now over the next few weeks.
10:19Lots of points to be played for.
10:21Obviously, mid-week we've got the cup game against Spartans.
10:25But we need to try and climb the table.
10:27And today gives us the opportunity to close the gap on Falkirk slightly.
10:32Albeit we've still got a hell of a lot of work to do.
10:34We've got a couple of games in hand on them.
10:36But it was nice to get back to winning ways today.
10:39We're always disappointed to lose.
10:40I don't think we deserve to lose.
10:43We've been on a good run.
10:45We're not going to beat ourselves up.
10:47We're ahead of schedule.
10:49So, you know, as I say, it's been a very...
10:52I think we've played four games in the period that Dundee has no played at all.
10:55You know, so...
10:57We can't be too harsh on ourselves.
11:00So, United get their first league win of the year.
11:05And it was absolutely massive for Jim Goodwin's team.
11:08It was, however, Falkirk that got the first goal, Kevin.
11:12Ben Brogio scored mid-week.
11:14Scored again today.
11:15Great finish.
11:15And he looks like a really good signing from Falkirk.
11:17Yeah, it's a terrific finish, Tom.
11:19They just keep it alive, really, second phase.
11:22I think the ball for Tate, it might look quite simple on the eye, but he's willing to play forward.
11:27You see Brogio showing it start way.
11:28This bit, for me, is really intriguing.
11:30Barney Stewart, lovely wee touch.
11:31It's a brilliant finish in the bottom corner.
11:33No chance for the goalkeeper.
11:35And it got Falkirk off to a brilliant start.
11:36It really did.
11:37I mean, yeah, I really like Barney Stewart's involvement here.
11:40You know, the touch back and then having the presence of mind to lay it off.
11:44I think people would probably underestimate Barney Stewart.
11:46I think people think that he's a runner and they can get him behind and he might not quite have that finesse.
11:50But he certainly had it there and he's done really well for them filming.
11:52He's went back and he's hit the ground running for Falkirk.
11:54Certainly has.
11:55Ross Graham equalised after a mix-up by Scott Bain.
11:58It looked, in real time, a bad mistake from Scott Bain.
12:02But do we give him a wee bit less, or do we let him away with it a wee bit more?
12:06Because I think actually Liam Henderson maybe heads it out of his hands.
12:09Well, he's my mate, Bainy.
12:10We're almost way up at Dundee's, so I'm going to give him the benefit.
12:12I don't think the communication is probably there.
12:14I think Liam Henderson obviously gets caught under the ball a wee bit.
12:17Bainy's obviously coming to collect it.
12:19And they just get themselves in a pickle.
12:21But take nothing away from Ross Graham on his left foot.
12:24Snapshot.
12:24Comes at him quite quick, obviously.
12:26It's a great reaction.
12:26Almost a striker reaction.
12:28And he put it in the bottom corner was a good way to get back in the game for Dundee.
12:33I suppose you're expecting, when you normally see a goalkeeper just coming and cleaning out,
12:36everybody there in that situation, don't you?
12:38There's maybe, as you said, been a wee lack of communication between them both.
12:42Maybe Bain's shout wasn't loud enough for Liam Henderson.
12:46It was a gift, to be honest.
12:47Because when you look at the obviously the stills there, there's no Dundee United players around the ball.
12:50It's an easy one.
12:50It's one that he could genuinely do with his eye shot.
12:53But certainly one that he won't only watch about.
12:56I doubt it.
12:57A big moment here.
12:58Liam Henderson, who we've just been talking about.
13:00Giving a yellow card on the pitch for this incident.
13:04And there's been a bit of discussion about it today.
13:06I heard a few of our colleagues on the radio talking about it.
13:09It was then brought back by VAR.
13:11And they upgraded it to a red card.
13:13What's your opinion?
13:14Yeah, I think Liam Henderson's probably thinking I'll just take one for the team.
13:17I think he probably thinks that Waters is so far away from the goal.
13:20That he's not going to get there.
13:21But I think when you see Nielsen, when he's highlighted, obviously in the right back area,
13:25they're trying to recover.
13:26I'm not so sure he's going to recover.
13:28So I think my humble opinion, Tom, was that he's going to get an opportunity and go.
13:32I think there's too much space between Nielsen, the recovering defender.
13:36I think they've got one on the other side as well, Falkirk.
13:38But I don't think at top speed there, Waters is going to get stopped to go through on goal
13:41and get his opportunity to score.
13:43So I think it's probably one.
13:44I think we heard John McGlynn say it's probably, he can understand it.
13:47Feels a wee bit sorry for obviously by Kendo.
13:49But I'm not so sure he can get away with that one.
13:51I think the thing is, I mean, because the incident happens pretty much on the halfway line,
13:55you're kind of looking at it from that point of view.
13:57But when he next would take his next touch, he's probably only at that point in time,
14:0130 odd yards from goal because the ball was rolling.
14:04He was going at full speed.
14:05He's in and maybe only got one more touch before he's taken a shot.
14:08So it's not actually the halfway line that you look at it from that point of view.
14:11Ah, listen, I think if it was me or you running through, then we'd probably not get there.
14:15Excuse me.
14:16I think Waters has certainly got the mobility and the speed to obviously, you know,
14:20go and threaten the Falkirk box.
14:22And I think the wee bit of a grey area for me is that whether it's 20 yards, 25 yards,
14:28is knowing the rule book that he gets an opportunity.
14:29He can score free distance.
14:30So he could take one more touch and hit a shot at goal.
14:32That gives him a goal scorer opportunity, in my opinion.
14:34So probably a hard one for Falkirk because they were well in the game, obviously.
14:38But it was certainly a turning point.
14:39It was a turning point.
14:41United, obviously, then with the numerical advantage, they started to push.
14:44You could see a bit of momentum gathering.
14:46And Julius Eskinen, well, he filed home the winner for United.
14:49Yeah, and it's probably, I think Strain will probably think that it was a good ball went into a good area.
14:54Obviously get a wee bit of luck, but it's a brilliant finish at the back post.
14:57It really is.
14:59And when you think of, you know, a turning point for Dundee United,
15:02an opportunity to try and build on.
15:03You listen to Jim there in his interview, talking about lots of games coming thick and fast.
15:07So against a real good Falkirk team that are in rich, veiny form,
15:10it's a brilliant result for Dundee United.
15:11That is.
15:12From United's point of view, I mean, they play Spartans midweek
15:14for a chance to get into the Scottish Cup quarterfinal.
15:17I think if they were to win that, which they're heavy favourites to do,
15:20off the back of that result, they are having lost four games in a row, basically, in the league.
15:25It would give the players a huge boost,
15:27and the club a huge boost to be in the quarterfinal.
15:29And finally, having won that game, things are looking up for them.
15:31Yeah, and I don't think you can underestimate, even for Premier League clubs, Tomo,
15:35that, you know, financially it's huge.
15:38I know, obviously, just obviously speaking to my friend that's obviously at Dunferm
15:41and how much money they made, obviously beating Hibbs,
15:43obviously the opportunity for lower league clubs,
15:45but I don't think you can take it away from Premier League clubs as well.
15:47They want, if fans want to see their team obviously go on a run,
15:49they want to get to Hampden, they want to get that opportunity to get to Cup Finals.
15:52It's what every fan obviously dreams, it's what players dream of.
15:55So, I certainly think that could be a turning point for Dundee United,
15:57because I think if they'd lost today, it's amazing that the narrative could look different.
16:00Yeah, well, five defeats in a row would not have been pretty.
16:02We must move on.
16:03Signs of improvement for Livy midweek,
16:05but it's wins that they desperately need today.
16:08They were at Dens Park.
16:09It hasn't been all rosy for Dundee and Livingston in the lead-up to this Valentine's Day,
16:16with both teams suffering late heartbreak.
16:19Dundee were close to Scottish Cup progression before Celtic struck,
16:23then Jan Danda didn't have Cupid's accuracy,
16:25missing a penalty in stoppage time at Falkirk.
16:28Livingston were so close to a crucial point before Celtic introduced their new man
16:32to stick a thorn in the Lions.
16:35It's an unchanged Dundee side for a fourth straight match,
16:38which doesn't feel like it happens often in football now.
16:42Their last league goal was on the 3rd of January in the Dundee derby,
16:45and they've now failed to score in the last four Premiership games.
16:48Steven Presley hopes continuity with Congreve, Jogan and Murray can change that.
16:53Two switches for Marvin Bartley and Livingston.
16:56Kerr and May are replaced by Montaño and Smith,
16:59but Keila is on the bench and has scored in two games against Dundee this campaign.
17:03New signing Barry Mackay doesn't make the squad.
17:08This is Graham.
17:15Right.
17:16Jogan.
17:17Ah, lovely back heel.
17:19Feeds Dre right down the line.
17:22And he'll continue.
17:24Drilled towards Murray, who's swarmed by three.
17:27And Dundee have the first corner of the match.
17:33Excellent play from Dundee.
17:35Specifically, Jogan.
17:37That quick thinking, allowing Dundee to build a threat.
17:44Ashley and Hamilton, away.
17:47Yandanda's delivery.
17:49It's teasing.
17:49I think there's a touch from Ashley Murray at the front post, launches the ball into the roof of the net.
17:57Look at what it means to Simon Murray.
18:00Livingston will be so upset at how they've defended this, and to lose so quickly in the match.
18:07The ball just hits Murray.
18:09But it sets perfectly for him to just get the quick reaction, right foot to it.
18:19Danda.
18:19Congreve.
18:33Away from the gown.
18:35Clipped up.
18:36Murray the target, and it's in again!
18:39A quick fire double.
18:43And if you thought he celebrated the first with passion, look at that one.
18:47Quick goals.
18:52Quick attacking from Dundee.
18:55They look so fired up for this match.
18:57Livingston are still sleeping.
19:00Such a nice little bit of movement from Murray.
19:03To move towards the ball.
19:04It's a delicate header.
19:07It's Dundee 2.
19:08Livingston 0.
19:10What must the Livingston manager be thinking?
19:17Montaño does well.
19:22Smith.
19:24Searching for Muirhead.
19:26Couple of extra bodies advancing.
19:28Pittman leaves it.
19:29Smith turns.
19:30Good block.
19:31Second chance.
19:32Deflected in.
19:34Well, that's the response.
19:36Livingston required.
19:37They've had a couple of opportunities.
19:41Lewis Smith takes that one.
19:44Dundee with that confidence have flooded players forward where the opportunity has been presented.
19:50But it's lovely play.
19:51Quick thinking from Pittman to leave it.
19:55Some Livingston fans may have suspected the chance had disappeared.
20:01That first effort from Smith.
20:02But Ashley didn't get the ball away.
20:04Smith.
20:13Livingston goal scorer.
20:14Threads through for Tate.
20:16Through on goal.
20:17Oh, and that's so close.
20:22Macaulay Tate almost pulling his hair out.
20:25That's a huge chance.
20:27It looked for a second.
20:28It was about to creep in.
20:29I don't think anyone's betting on the scoring being finished in this match.
20:46McCracken under pressure.
20:48Muirhead wins it.
20:49It's Pittman!
20:50It's 2-2.
20:58What an incredible start to this match.
21:02It's now Livingston with all the momentum.
21:05And again, Dundee causing their own problems.
21:09McCracken could have just cleared it.
21:11Muirhead with the challenge.
21:12The ball rolls into the path of Pittman.
21:15It's great work from Muirhead.
21:17It's a great tackle.
21:22Astley.
21:24Danda close by.
21:26Astley pierces it through for Congrave.
21:29Big save, Prior.
21:31Dundee want a handball.
21:32Well, let's take another look.
21:37That's a lovely through ball.
21:42Well taken by Congrave too.
21:45And as the save was made by Prior Dundee,
21:47claim the ball came off the hand of Kabongolo.
21:50There's not much he can do about it.
21:52It's down by his side.
22:00Taken short.
22:03Danda.
22:04Dundee still can't get it beyond Pittman.
22:07Dundee still can't get it beyond Pittman.
22:12Congrave.
22:13Maisie run.
22:14And held onto by Prior.
22:22Congrave looking to replicate a bit of what
22:24Ethan Hamilton produced in the Scottish Cup
22:26against Celtic.
22:30This is Callum Jones.
22:33Samuels.
22:35Back for Jones.
22:37Again it's congested, Dundee goes searching for some space, this is Congreve up against Kerr, gets to the byline, and somehow Prior was in position to turn it behind for a Dundee corner.
22:57Congreve's running at that speed it's just difficult for a defender to keep track to decide whether they stick a leg in.
23:03Patient from Dundee, Jones to Congreve, pierces through for Scott Wright, the layoff for Hamilton, oh and that's just past the post.
23:18Pittman threw himself at it to defend for Livingston, it was hard to see where it would end up from this angle, but here we can see.
23:33Up it goes, Finlayson tried to help it in, this is Smith, rides the challenge, and goes for goal!
23:48But that wasn't far away, it dipped late, McCracken seemed unsure, and Smith almost making it a double.
23:59Steven Presley watches on, you expect a little nervous.
24:04Finlayson scooped up to the back, McGowan's header powered.
24:11There were some claims of handball as Simon Murray moved back in front of his goalkeeper.
24:16And now a silence falls over Dens Park.
24:20Unconvincing from Dundee.
24:23Appeared to come off the thigh of Simon Murray, and that's what he's telling everyone around.
24:30Hamilton.
24:42Searches for Congreve.
24:44It's their one final Dundee opportunity.
24:47It's Congreve.
24:48Oh, priorless a slip!
24:50And grasps it before it crosses the goal line.
24:53Wow!
24:54That's it!
24:55It's all over!
24:56A point apiece!
24:57For Steven Presley and Marvin Bartley.
24:58We looked really fatigued today.
24:59You know, we've had a really tough week.
25:00But, you know, I thought we should have a really strong mentality because it wasn't an easy game.
25:17Going 2-0 up and then being dragged back.
25:20And, of course, the expectation to go on and win the game, but the players persevered.
25:25And in the end, we had a lot of pressure, but without managing to get that all-important third goal.
25:31You know, seeing what they did at Celtic Park, if we can replicate that in games,
25:36and I think they did that again today for, you know, 84, 86 minutes or whatever it was,
25:41outside of those first four minutes, then, you know, we've got a chance.
25:45We really do have a chance.
25:46I think, you know, everyone will walk away from here saying, you know,
25:49Livingston, yes, they're bottom of the league, but they showed great fight and great spirit today.
25:52And that's credit to the players.
25:54An absolutely brilliant first half at Denz Park this afternoon.
25:58Dundee going 2-0 up just after five minutes.
26:01But huge credit to Livvy for fighting back, Kevin.
26:04It was Simon Murray who put Dundee in that early lead.
26:08He looked like he enjoyed this.
26:09Yeah, he's a talisman, I suppose, as Simon Murray.
26:12And he just reacts quickest, almost a lot of bodies in there.
26:15And a good ball in for Jan Dander.
26:17And I think he just gets a wee run on Danny Wilson in the end.
26:20But you can just see him, he's clever.
26:21I think all good strikers are always loose.
26:23And he just reacts to the ball.
26:24Yeah, you probably get a wee bit of luck, but a real smart finish at the near post for Simon Murray.
26:29It was.
26:30I mean, I think from Livvy's point of view, we've highlighted the defending throughout the season.
26:33When you've got that many bodies in there, somebody's got to deal with it.
26:36Yeah, I'm no doubt Marv will be talking about, you know, first contacts.
26:39And this is the same, really.
26:40You know, Halliday reacts really well.
26:42Congreve always on his bike.
26:43Probably Ryan McGowan.
26:44Don't want to be in that area with Congreve.
26:46It's a brilliant ball in his left foot.
26:48I'm not so sure Danny Finlayson will want to see that back.
26:50I know Danny really well.
26:51He'll want to have been stronger.
26:52He'll want to get his arm across Simon Murray.
26:53But like any good striker, Tomo, you know yourself, when the ball's in the area and you can get first run on your centre back,
26:59you've got half a chance of nicking in front of him.
27:00And that's what Simon Murray does.
27:01You see him here.
27:02He's just loose.
27:03He's just waiting for the ball coming in.
27:05And he actually doesn't do too much.
27:07He just darts in front of Danny Finlayson.
27:08And I think you can see for Danny Finlayson's reaction, the way he's lying on the floor,
27:11that he'll be disappointed with that one.
27:12Yeah.
27:13I mean, when you are behind the defender like that and you know you can get the run and just lean on top of him,
27:18you're always kind of favourite with the ball coming in.
27:20Credit to Livy, as I said, they responded almost immediately.
27:24And brilliantly because it would have been so easy at 2-0 down to just basically capitulate.
27:30But credit to him.
27:31Yeah, I think Lewis Smith was catalyst for everything that they've done well.
27:34Montano, you know, both ratting around the ball, stealing it off of Hamilton.
27:38This is a wee clever pass, but this bit here that's coming up, Tom,
27:41with this bit for Pittman to get the ball back, just this wee dummy, wee shuffle.
27:44I'm not so sure Yandanda does himself all too well.
27:47You can see him almost shurking out the tackle.
27:50A wee bit of luck that Livingston probably deserved for the reaction that they had obviously going 2-0 down.
27:54And then we see this one big long sweeping ball for Danny Wilson.
27:57I have to say Lewis Smith again, Tomo, involved.
28:02So unlucky to not make it two.
28:04Just dragged it past the post there.
28:05That's really close, isn't it?
28:06And this is obviously a moment that John McCracken will not want to see back.
28:12Why he doesn't put his foot through this?
28:13We'll never know.
28:14Yeah, and it's just a moment of madness really.
28:16You know, real industrious play for Robbie Muirhead to go and put pressure on the ball.
28:21I think we both spoke, didn't we, when we've seen it back.
28:23You can see the weight in the ball is not there.
28:25So just put your foot through it.
28:26It's on your right foot.
28:27I don't know why you're taking it back on your left.
28:28I'm not even so sure any of the Dundee defenders are making an angle for the ball.
28:32No.
28:33And gets himself caught in a pickle.
28:34But fair play to Livingston.
28:35A brilliant reaction.
28:36If Marv's going to have any sort of success with this team,
28:38then that resilience that they've shown, not just at Celtic Park, but today,
28:41after a real poor start, it might just give them the catalyst to try and go...
28:44We saw flashes of Cameron Congreve in the edits and VTs there, but he was outstanding.
28:49I think especially in that opening 45, I mean, Livingston, they just couldn't deal with him.
28:53Yeah, I thought he was terrific.
28:55Everything good that Dundee done, he was involved in.
28:57Obviously a natural lefty.
28:59We see there, you know, real inviting ball with his right foot.
29:02The bit that I like about him, Tom, is he starts inside the pitch and then he drifts out.
29:05I'm not so sure Ryan McGowan wants to be caught in this position, to be honest.
29:08No.
29:09But when you play a back three, he probably never had too much support.
29:12But then you see Cammy Kerr come on in the second half and it gave him quite a difficult game as well.
29:16But the movement that he does for the team, you know, if you're one of the midfield players
29:20trying to play the passes and his movement, he's got that wee sharp drop to his shoulder.
29:24We see some of his mazes.
29:25But I think the danger for opposition players is that he's more than capable of going both ways.
29:30I thought he was really, really instrumental for Dundee to do.
29:33I think, for me, he's the sort of player that every team in the league would want.
29:39Somebody that can create opportunities, which he does.
29:42And somebody that, whenever he receives it, he's never looking for a safe pass.
29:46He's always looking to create, isn't he?
29:47Yeah, probably apart from getting his goal, he'd probably done everything he could.
29:51You see this one, obviously, late on.
29:53I think he's squaring up Cammy Kerr this time.
29:56And he still gets his shot off, almost a goalkeeper blunder.
29:59But I think you're right, you're bang on.
30:01He's a player that when he lands on the ball, he wants to make things happen.
30:04So if you're a player like Simon Murray and you've got a wide player like him knowing that
30:07if I make the movements, I know that he's going to put the ball in a box.
30:09I know that he's going to create chances for me.
30:11He's a real good foil for Dundee.
30:13Agreed.
30:14Our final game tonight comes from Easter Road.
30:16Does Hibs welcome St Mirren?
30:20Hibs are looking to bounce back from that Edinburgh Derby defeat through the week,
30:24but they probably wouldn't have picked today's opposition to do that against.
30:28St Mirren are unbeaten in their past four visits to Leith, not losing here since May 2023.
30:34Owen Elding has handed his first Hibs start.
30:37David Gray says he has a bright future.
30:39Warren O'Hora and Jamie McGrath make full returns to fitness.
30:43Dan and Lundeloo and Jake Young start up top, they're two of three.
30:46St Mirren changes.
30:47Connor McMenamin is the other, replacing Jaden Richardson who drops to the bench.
30:56Gogic against his former club.
30:59Beats Chaiwa to the ball.
31:01Jake Young gets it to Killian Phillips.
31:09An early flurry for St Mirren.
31:11The ball fired across and Salinger has to take evasive action there.
31:17I wasn't sure if that was an effort at goal or a cross from McMenamin.
31:21Salinger having to tip that one away.
31:26Nicky Catten keen to get it on that left foot.
31:29Might drop to Chaiwa, drives it.
31:31George saves with his knees.
31:33Unorthodox from the St Mirren goalkeeper, but he gets away with it.
31:38Chaiwa fairly caught it.
31:42Quite central though.
31:43O'Hora crossing to the front post.
31:50There's the connection.
31:51Bashiri misses it though.
31:53Huge chance for Hibbs to take the lead.
31:57But Rocky Bashiri completely fluffs his lines.
32:04A fresh air swipe.
32:06And that's why he plays at the back.
32:08It's Freckleton who eventually gets that ball under control.
32:21And he threads the pass through to Jake Young.
32:23Takes a touch away from the defender.
32:25And Salinger makes the save.
32:28Well, the offside flag goes up now.
32:34Jake Young trying to find the back of the net.
32:37But he was always offside there.
32:40Good save from Salinger anyway.
32:50St Mirren just turning into trouble there.
32:55There's two balls on the field.
32:58It will be pulled back.
33:00And Conor McMenamin will get boots.
33:06Not the wisest move from the Northern Irishman.
33:12Just trying to hold up Hibbs play there.
33:22Paslak.
33:23One of the Hibbs winter signings who's gone straight into the starting 11.
33:31Well, that ball did go out.
33:32And it will be a Hibbs corner.
33:38Dan McFarlane confirming his decision.
33:43Oh, Nicky Cadden just plays it to Dan Barlasa.
33:45Who swings the cross in.
33:47It's a good one.
33:48And the header is even better.
33:51It's Owen Elding.
33:54On his first Hibbs start.
33:57The Irish teenager has his first Hibbs goal.
34:01And it's an absolute peach.
34:04A brilliant flicked header.
34:05Hibbs have dominated this first half.
34:10They now have a goal to show for it.
34:14Well, here's a stat for you.
34:15Hibbs are unbeaten in their past 40 Premiership matches when they've had the lead at half-time.
34:22And coming forward again.
34:24Cadden clips onto the back post.
34:26Paslak is there!
34:27It's off the post.
34:29So close to a second for the Hibbs.
34:33And almost a first Hibbs goal for Felix Paslak.
34:36Not much of a press there from St Mirren.
34:42Although Gogic puts pressure on.
34:45And this could be a big chance.
34:47Mandron has the effort and Salinger makes the save.
34:51And glares at his outfield colleagues.
34:55Should Mikhail Mandron have maybe played in a teammate there?
34:59On Valentine's Day, St Mirren gifted a chance.
35:03They can't make the most of it.
35:04Corner comes in.
35:08Salinger flaps at it a little.
35:11It's then given away.
35:13Oh, that's a nasty challenge on the edge of the box.
35:16And Killian Phillips sees the foul go against them.
35:23Zoe Nelding on the receiving end.
35:29And Nelding will now come off.
35:31A good day's work for the youngster.
35:36Signs from Sligo Rovers.
35:38In the winter window.
35:40He's replaced by another new addition.
35:41Ante Souto.
35:45He's already scored.
35:47That winner against Dundee United.
35:49He'll be looking to add to it.
35:50Martin Boyle also on, replacing Dane Scarlett.
35:59Here's Jamie McGrath, Cadden making the run.
36:04Oh, that's lovely from Nicky Cadden.
36:08Can he pick out a man in the middle?
36:11Oh, it's in!
36:13Ante Souto.
36:15Tropheting on the St Mirren.
36:18Mistake at the back.
36:20Shamal George just timing the ball out.
36:24Now there will be a VAR check for a possible offside here.
36:29But the goal is given.
36:31It's a quick decision.
36:33And Hibbs do have their second.
36:34Pretty cut and dry there for Nicky Cadden.
36:39Who's getting back to his best form.
36:43And that's far too easy for Hibbs.
36:45More soft St Mirren defending.
36:50And Declan John on the line, just couldn't get there in time.
36:54And Souto has a second goal for Hibbs already.
36:56They're happy with what they've seen this afternoon.
37:05That man, not so much.
37:10John with the delivery.
37:12Oh, it's flapped up by Salinger.
37:15But Jack Ardell gets it away.
37:21And that is that.
37:23Hibbs' fantastic home record goes on.
37:27They've lost two of their last 26.
37:30And they keep up the pressure on Motherwell.
37:33St Mirren not always the easiest of opposition.
37:37But Hibbs made it look pretty easy today.
37:39It finishes in Easter Road.
37:41Hibernian two.
37:42St Mirren nil.
37:44Full credit to the players for their attitude.
37:47The way they approached the game.
37:48The way we moved the ball.
37:50Created that real opportunities that we had.
37:52Good patterns of play.
37:54Got the goals at good times.
37:55Another real important thing.
37:56For how dominant we were in the first half.
37:59I thought it was important we got that goal.
38:00So that came at a really good time.
38:02And I thought all in all it was a really good performance.
38:05Clean sheet at home.
38:06And certainly something to build on.
38:07Which is the most important thing.
38:08Yeah I'm delighted.
38:09Obviously there's no better feeling than hitting the back of the net.
38:12And to do it at my first start at home.
38:14Yeah there's nothing more special.
38:15We don't stay by a runner from a set play.
38:17And that's poor.
38:19That's inexcusable.
38:21Everyone's got jobs to do.
38:22We haven't done that.
38:23I said defend with your life.
38:25Play not to lose the game.
38:26And we didn't do that in the first goal.
38:28The second goal was exactly the same.
38:30We didn't defend it properly.
38:32The second half was much better.
38:34The reaction.
38:35The players that came on.
38:36I've got to take the positives of course.
38:37People only see the result.
38:38I've got to take the positives from it.
38:40Our final decision in that final third.
38:42Was wrong at times.
38:43And we should have slipped players through.
38:46So you put that combination together.
38:48You're probably going to lose games.
38:52Hibbs closed the gap in Motherwell.
38:53Who play tomorrow of course for St Mirren.
38:56Well it is going to get nervy.
38:57Coming into these last couple of months of the season.
38:59Kevin.
39:00Hibbs today.
39:01We are the better team over the piece.
39:02Daniel Barlasa.
39:03Showed his range of passing and quality today.
39:06Yeah I think he's involved in everything.
39:07That Hibbs done well today Tomo.
39:09I thought he was.
39:10He's not one that you ever see.
39:11Really run in front of the ball.
39:12Albeit.
39:13We'll see a clip that he does do it.
39:14But you know.
39:15A brilliant ball in for the first goal.
39:17But I think he's a real foil for.
39:18For Hibbs in the respect.
39:19That it allows the people in front of him to go and play.
39:21He's always an option.
39:22He's technically good.
39:23He's got a variety of different passes.
39:24And you can see here.
39:25I'm not sure McManaman will be too happy at this.
39:27But a great run for a young Owen Eldon.
39:29And by the way.
39:30That's a header that you would be proud of.
39:31That's a great header.
39:32It really is.
39:33You're right though.
39:34And you could hear Steven Robinson.
39:35Not happy with a defender.
39:37Yeah.
39:38I actually thought when we watched it back a few times.
39:40I know we've got hindsight.
39:41It's a wonderful thing.
39:42We've made loads of mistakes ourselves.
39:43But I'm not so sure Gogic does too well when he comes out either.
39:45For such a great presence in there.
39:47But you can see Barlasa here Tomo.
39:49He's always a pass.
39:50He's always lending it to people.
39:52He's got a variety of different passes.
39:53Long one here.
39:54A really good touch for Eldon out of the sky.
39:56But just couldn't get out of his feet to get his shot off.
39:58But the bit that I like about him is this wee bit.
40:00You know he always backs it up.
40:01He's really simple.
40:02Nice wee give and go.
40:03He's always an option.
40:04He's always loose.
40:05You could say I've got a tighter arm to try and stop him playing.
40:08This is the one that we see where he just pops it and runs forward.
40:11I'm not so sure this is his game.
40:13But he's certainly more than capable of doing it.
40:15Fantastic.
40:16And for young Owen Eldon.
40:18You know a brilliant full debut for him.
40:20He looks like a prospect when he's 19 years old.
40:22First start.
40:23Big investment.
40:24Obviously come through over in Ireland.
40:26And I think when you think of Hibs fans.
40:28They think Kieran Bowie going for big money.
40:30Who's going to replace him.
40:31But I think they've been there.
40:32I listened to Andy Halliday in the show earlier.
40:34I think Hibs have been really smart with their business.
40:36Yeah I'd agree.
40:37Nicky Carden.
40:38I mean how many times have we said this.
40:39But again today.
40:40Just so influential when he's in full flow for Hibs.
40:43Not just an open play Tomo.
40:45He's set-piece delivery.
40:46He's brilliant.
40:47But you can see him just wriggle away from Marcus Fraser here.
40:49A lovely stand up.
40:50And Paslak obviously.
40:51He should score shouldn't he?
40:52I'm not saying it's the easiest chance.
40:53But it's a wonderful wee step up.
40:55He just hangs it up at the back post.
40:57He's always wriggling.
40:58Always twisting and turning.
40:59Once he gets wrong side.
41:00Obviously makes it difficult for the Samirian defenders to touch him.
41:03It's a lovely pick out.
41:04Almost just begging to be smashed in the net.
41:07I love how he can vary up his crosses as well.
41:10You know he lifts his head and he knows where he wants to put the ball.
41:14Instead of just putting it in aimlessly.
41:15Yeah and they're big moments as well.
41:17You know we see the assist here.
41:18Tapping for Suto on the end.
41:19But like any good striker.
41:20He's in the middle of the six yard box.
41:22I'm not so sure.
41:23Without picking on McManaman he'd be too happy when he sees his defending back.
41:26Yeah it probably looked a bit easy didn't it?
41:28Probably lets him wriggle away.
41:29But a lot of players would get into this area and probably cross it now.
41:32But he just shows that wee bit of composure.
41:34Maybe a wee bit of luck off the goalkeeper.
41:36But I think if Hibs can keep Cadden fit with that left peg that he's got.
41:40He'll be a real good asset for them moving forward.
41:42I agree.
41:43St Mirren, it's been the story of the season really.
41:45No goals today.
41:46Didn't really create too many big chances throughout the game.
41:50No.
41:51The one thing I would say about St Mirren and you probably backed me up on this Tom.
41:55Normally when you play St Mirren you feel you're in for a real hard game.
41:58A real physical game.
41:59Obviously Mark O'Hara coming back is a huge plus for them.
42:02Obviously going to the climax of the season.
42:04But they just looked like a team that probably could have played all day today and not scored a goal.
42:08I know this one was offside that we're seeing just getting in behind.
42:10Salinger with a good save.
42:11I just always think that like this bit.
42:15Mandarin shot at the end.
42:17Good save for Salinger.
42:18You see Gogich backing it up.
42:20Making it difficult for people.
42:21Getting on top of people.
42:23I just didn't see it in any sustained shape or form for St Mirren to do.
42:28It's one win in ten league games for St Mirren.
42:30I mean I think that form is going to be a concern for Steven Robinson.
42:33They're in a battle down at the bottom aren't they?
42:35They are.
42:36Listen he's long enough in the tooth Robbo.
42:38He's you know three top six finishes.
42:41Cup final.
42:43He'll fancy getting St Mirren out of where they're at.
42:46But they need to start winning quickly don't they?
