35:10wanted to change that today you know you knew if we win today going into next week would be so
35:14important for us and you know i thought we'd done that you know we had disappointment with
35:17minor in the post and then they score in straight up the other end and getting a penalty then getting
35:21overturned and you know sometimes when you think your luck's against you it's never going to change
35:26but you know i thought we stuck in there lucas scored a really good goal and then went on scored
35:29two more good goals i thought we performed poorly um off of our high standards that we've had
35:34especially in the last few games where we've we've played pretty well but today was a bad day
35:37that's the first time that we haven't really performed away from home our normal characteristics
35:42have always been there we might not have won the games that we maybe feel we deserve to have done
35:47but today was a dip from that and something we need to rectify well west ham in the story here aren't
35:53there rob really because they needed that and their fans have been waiting all season for something
35:59like that yeah what a departure what a change in performance just 90 minutes makes and it was
36:04something that you're looking at energy commitment communication drive working together as a team
36:11and you have to start off by giving credit to the manager for picking the 11 that he did he got the
36:15shape right he got the 11 right after so many times of asking and we'll open it up with pops
36:20directing traffic communicating and one of many combinations this one between paqueta juif and
36:28somerville getting somerville in the position he wants to be and then you're looking at the numbers and
36:33the pace of which they're going forwards and this is so far removed from where they've been of recent
36:39weeks good this is so early in the game you're thinking well they have a chance they have the
36:43setback with the goal but it carried on and wambisaka who had a brilliant afternoon
36:48communicating with fernandez that understanding of when one goes the other one has to track round
36:54and it sounds basic but you've got to get it right in timing and then wambisaka doing what he can do
37:00and it's wonderful from boeing as well that combination they won the penalty got overturned
37:05but they carried on going again and this is a brilliant example of working together as a team
37:11with paqueta cutting off passing angles pots cutting off the passing to front man fernandez
37:16cutting off the passing to the midfielder boeing stepping inside onto tonali they're all getting it
37:22right together as a team driving through and then winning the regain and from there having the composure
37:28to say right where's the space where do we get it get it to our man out wide wambisaka he's on fire
37:35get the crossing another dangerous cross and then again fernandez looking wambisaka's already on his
37:43way jarrod bowen another little combination he's caused confusion between gordon and burn they've both
37:49gone into him created the space for wambisaka this caps off a brilliant from first half from west ham
37:56where they had the setback they came back he got it right today wambisaka got it right he was brilliant
38:03going forwards in the first half and then they came out clearly after that second goal and said
38:07we're gonna shut up shop we're gonna sit tight they had a really good afternoon wambisaka had a really
38:13good afternoon and you kind of called for that on match of the day last week really you said that that
38:18front four will deliver as long as what's behind them does their share of it yeah you've got to
38:26share the load for both ways and um there's certainly talent there you know and and it's confidence is a
38:31huge thing game to game um in terms of form can be a big thing but as a player you can never lose that
38:37belief and that confidence deep within yourself and they've certainly got talent within that group and
38:41they deserved it today i thought they were they were fantastic and they created enough to to win
38:45the game by by far rob mentioned freddie potts making his first premier league start for west ham
38:52today 22 years old in the position that you played during your career for the majority of the time
39:00what impressed you about him this afternoon he was a massive plus for west ham i mean there was there was
39:06there was a lot of positives today but he was a massive plus i think uh the biggest thing for me
39:10was how he just fit in and played his position with real understanding he's playing in a team with a
39:15lot of attacking players today and he played his position against a strong midfield of newcastle's
39:20three and they're very athletic as strong as you get in the premier league and he had a real
39:24understanding of when to press went to cover and he was doing two jobs and he was jumping at times to
39:29tonali or bruno and he was he was back tackling and and blocking passes into voltamada seems quite simple but
39:35it's fantastic he never really looked flustered he never looked out of position never really looked
39:40like he was chasing i like this one because he has a little look over his shoulder he thinks do i need
39:45to get to tonali and pass the referee realize it's not going there holds his position and just reads
39:50the game really really well regains it starts another attack and before you know it two passes later and
39:56they're on the attack and they end up getting into the 18 yard box and i just thought it was a real
40:00disciplined mature performance again he was dictating things he looked like he had a real presence
40:05about him in there never really looked flustered again a regain forward pass one touch i love the
40:10way it was forward on one touch boom outside of the right foot and at times he didn't have to get
40:15forward too much but when he did lovely little pass to Wan-Bissaka down the side showed that side to
40:20his game and on another day he might have had a goal you know he makes the box very unfortunate it's a
40:26great finish he got himself right in there and if Suchek had maybe a size seven on instead of a size nine and
40:32half he might have got himself the goal and he deserved it he'd done a bit of everything today
40:38for West Ham in a real tough game to come into he just done his job fantastically well kept calm
40:45kept composed was all over the pitch done a bit of everything yeah he's had a really good day
40:51really good day well he's a dream's come true for him well yeah you're looking at someone he'll be sat
40:56at home now with his dad looking at watching this and being praised by Michael Carrick thinking this
41:02was brilliant and on top of that you're looking at it saying where they struggled Sochek and Irving
41:07in midfield as a defensive two haven't been able to do it for West Ham he did it as a one and it was
41:13against three really good midfielders in Newcastle yeah it was honestly I think you can't underestimate
41:20coming into that environment in a game of that stature to to come in and just be himself he looked
41:26like he was just himself and he coped with it ever so well I was I was massively impressed do you think
41:30that's you know your experience as a young player your experience coaching young players is it is it sink
41:37or swim in that in that situation I think yeah they're coming into the situation that he's coming
41:42into with where the club are I think there's almost two ways I think there's a young player you can come
41:46in and it's too much for you and a little bit naive and it's a bit fresh and it's a bit it's a tough
41:52environment to come into today going to go down as well early on at home it can be a little bit
41:57this is too much and you get caught out or you can actually play without freedom because it's a big
42:02chance you know you just would you said it it's it's a dream day for him and he just played like
42:07himself no scarring of previous results really you know it's not responsible for that and he played
42:13with that freedom um it was great to see you know he deserves all the credit because it's fantastic
42:18performance from the lad take your opportunity you've been given an opportunity when a team's
42:22been struggling we've touched on it before you're saying you're looking around the guys on the bench
42:26the youngsters are sat there going give me a chance he's grabbed that chance and you played
42:30alongside his dad didn't you you know my debut yeah made your day your debut was with his dad
42:36so we'll move on from you feeling really old to on to the next thing just your goalkeeping insight
42:42on nick but we had a chat in the office about this it's really interesting on just the slightest
42:47margins of error that can cost a goalkeeper well let's get first things right the ball moves i know
42:52you love that one chap as the ball dips a lot but there is certain habits with nick pope has that
42:59doesn't help but when it does move and does dip that really he ends up falling short he's such a
43:05big guy that when he turns comes to move into a dive he cuts his right leg rather than driving
43:12through his right leg now this is a habit that a lot of goalkeepers have he manages to do it because
43:18he is so big he covers so much of the goal but when we look at the striker when you look at the movement
43:23if you look at his right foot of nick pope and he came into criticism for this but pretty much every
43:28goalkeeper does this and it's so hard to cut out you see his right leg cut and he ends up diving up
43:35and down rather than across and pushing through his right leg and from there his hand his left hand
43:41comes out over in front of him and his hands get in between his eyes and the ball so when it starts
43:48to dip and it does dip chappers when it starts to dip his hands have to go down but that fraction of a
43:54second delays him and rather than being out and down and through the ball it's down it's out and
44:02down over the ball and that fraction of a detail just because of the movement of the leg the way his
44:08body then moves really it didn't help him in that motion is it is it very quickly is it instinct that
44:14your leg goes that way before yeah if you had a running race and you everyone's starting on the start
44:19line and you didn't know when you were starting you said go your instinct would be to step backwards
44:23to go forwards to dive to cut out that instinct is so hard to go the wrong way essentially it's
44:31counterintuitive but it is so very difficult to cut out plenty more reaction and debate on all the
