00:01Suddenly it feels different.
00:03What does?
00:04Knowing I won't be here next week, or ever again.
00:08Maybe not on this ship, but you'll be back in active service soon.
00:12You know as well as I do, once behind a desk, always behind a desk.
00:15You'll be a commander.
00:17In command of a million paperclips.
00:20In command of the entire Jupiter Systems Network.
00:23I like you, Fimbo.
00:25What?
00:26You know as well as I do that CSC is a glorified parking attendant.
00:32I'll shunt ships in and out of space harbour, making sure they don't bump into passing asteroids.
00:37Vital, vital work, Elliot.
00:39Every morning I'll get the commute shuttle.
00:41Say, good morning, Valerie, as I enter the office.
00:43Have a cup of coffee, read the bulletin, do the crossword.
00:47We'll go quietly crazy.
00:49Exactly, that's why I'll be back flying in a couple of months.
00:52Oh, is that a light again?
00:54I thought I saw it earlier.
00:55Petra, zoom in on hangar doors, will you?
00:57Sending me out in style, eh?
00:59I can't see a thing.
01:00First, Melody and Sarah attacked by plasmoids.
01:03Then, pause, nearly electrocuted.
01:06There's a hangar fault and no fault.
01:09There's something very odd going on on this ship, Elliot.
01:12Very odd indeed.
01:26Oh God!
01:27All right!
01:29Take a break!
01:30No!
01:32No!
01:33No!
01:34No!
01:34No!
01:34No!
01:34No!
01:40No!
01:43No!
01:54Ah, Daniel, there you are.
01:56Can you come to lab three with me, please?
01:57I want to run some checks on the hangar.
01:59No, Fimbo, we're on the way to the club.
02:00It won't take long.
02:01What do you want me for?
02:02Because it takes half the time
02:03if there's someone intelligent watching the screen.
02:05You mean you need a witness in case something weird turns up?
02:08No, what makes you say that?
02:10I won't keep him long, girls.
02:12Oh, my God. Elliot must be pie-eyed.
02:14Poor Elliot.
02:16I thought you didn't like him.
02:17What if you like him?
02:18No, he's lovely.
02:19He's always been here.
02:20He's a permanent fixture.
02:21Yeah, you make him sound like a knick-knack.
02:23Well, he always was a bit of a conversation piece.
02:26Oh, he was.
02:27Poor Elliot.
02:30So when's he leaving?
02:31I'll pass a fight.
02:32Are we going to give him a foul-out party?
02:34What do you think he'd come?
02:35Depends how much drink we stopped.
02:37What was that?
02:39What?
02:39That noise.
02:40What sort of noise?
02:41I don't know.
02:43Sarah, you promised.
02:45Come on.
02:49Um, what are we having?
02:50Oh, lime and soda.
02:53Me too.
02:55So, what did Elliot do then for his captain?
02:58I don't know.
02:59I think he was sort of born captain.
03:01Yeah, with his beard.
03:03And his memories of Mary Venom.
03:04Oh, God bless her.
03:05But she is great passion then.
03:07Oh, if only you knew, Gavin.
03:09So sad.
03:11Petra.
03:12Standing by.
03:14Open file beta 11.5.
03:17Please state password.
03:21Nostalgia.
03:22You have activated an Ola Sendai interactive diary.
03:27Time elapsed since last entry, seven years at three days and 13 hours.
03:32Do you wish to make an entry or would you like to review the past?
03:37Review the past.
04:07What is all this?
04:09Gentius, you never look for the easy option.
04:11Me, I'm lazy.
04:13Yes, you always go for the easy option.
04:16Well, did it work?
04:17Yes, it did.
04:18Now, we just slip in via the maintenance protocols, smooth as ice cream.
04:23But not as bad for your teeth.
04:25Aw, damn.
04:27Ah, the phantom file strikes again.
04:29What did you say?
04:31It's the Achilles shield file doing the old DXM run around.
04:34Oh, yes, yes, that's what it'll be.
04:36You don't know what I'm talking about, do you?
04:38Well, I'm a navigator, not a computer programmer.
04:41DXM.
04:42Deus ex machina.
04:44Ghost in the machine.
04:46Never mind.
04:47What's the Achilles shield doing in there anyway?
04:49Not a lot.
04:52Code 111.
04:54That's an old distress signal.
04:57Man overboard.
04:59What was I talking about?
05:01Mary Venables.
05:03Have I mentioned her before?
05:05There are 215 references to Mary Venables.
05:12Start at the first entry.
05:17Is this thing working?
05:19It is.
05:20It's worse than an order, for a sec.
05:24This is third officer Elliot Creasy at the Mars 2 pre-launch rave.
05:29With me are Tubby Wainwright, Mary Venables.
05:33Are you sure it's working?
05:36Orbit insertion took place for 700 hours.
05:38Orbit insertion took place for 700 hours.
05:41All systems are go.
05:44This is pretty boring.
05:46This is pretty boring.
05:47I'm on shift with Mary all next month.
05:49I had to bribe Freddy with two bottles of Alfredo's number 10 rocket fuel.
05:53I think it's worth it.
05:54You're only young once.
05:57I don't know if I'm in there.
05:58I don't know if I'm in there.
05:59I don't know if I'm in there.
05:59I don't know if I'm in there.
06:00Yeah.
06:00Yeah.
06:01Hi.
06:02Hello.
06:02Oh, where's Daniel got to?
06:04Oh, I thought he was here.
06:05No, he got sidetracked by Femi.
06:06Oh, well, how much I hope he has with Daniel, of course.
06:08500 equis an hour.
06:10You're not still angry about being ripped off, are you?
06:13On the King Henry on the way out, one of the crew of, what was his name?
06:17Femi, Femi, something like that, dropped her bag.
06:19Philippe.
06:20On the last day.
06:20That's five months later, okay?
06:22Gabriella creeped her away.
06:24What did you do?
06:25Well, that's what I heard her say.
06:27Oh, well.
06:28No.
06:29Go on.
06:30I'm ejected his autosign out of the end.
06:34This is a waste of time.
06:37No, no, no, no, no, no.
06:38I'm sure the Achilles shield is the heart of the problem.
06:41Have fun, Fimbo.
06:42Two drinks?
06:43No, nothing for two drinks.
06:46Not even for three drinks and 500 equis.
06:49No.
06:50No, you can beg, Fimbo.
06:51It won't make any difference.
06:53Yeah, that's another distress signal, isn't it?
06:55Sort of.
06:56Medical emergency?
06:58Some of these distress signals are over 10 years old.
07:02Why can't McNeish get out of the shower?
07:04Two bottles of a fridge, number 10, I'll get you.
07:06I did it.
07:07I got in there first, and I used all the toothpaste.
07:11Funny.
07:12I remember it being a bit more exciting than that.
07:15Well, that's space travel for you.
07:18What?
07:19That's space travel for you.
07:21Why did I say that?
07:234th of April, 2035, entry 426.
07:28Elliot?
07:29Yes?
07:29What's the code 146?
07:31It's a distress signal.
07:33Well, yeah, yes, I guess that much.
07:35What that means, my old buccaneer, is mutiny in progress.
07:41Mutiny.
07:43Oh, I've lost it again.
07:45The file must have shifted to another memory location.
07:48Yes, but why?
07:49Off you, Ron.
07:53Where's it going?
07:54Well, it's gone walkabouts again.
07:56Every time we think we've found it, it shifts to another location.
07:59Defensive concealment.
08:00What?
08:02Timmy always told me there were two ways to defend a file from a hacker.
08:06Load it down with access restrictions, or program it just to run away if someone tries to get in it.
08:10Well, obviously, someone doesn't want us to get in this one.
08:13Why?
08:13It's just a flight log.
08:15It's the flight log of the Michelangelo One.
08:17Actually, I think it's the file Mercedes was looking for.
08:20And what made Michelangelo One famous?
08:22Of course!
08:23The first murder in the Jupiter system.
08:26Hi.
08:27Hi, Bert.
08:27Oh, what are you drinking?
08:30I'm in soda.
08:31I'm going to have a night before.
08:32Oh, what is that?
08:33Night before the morning after.
08:35It's a cocktail.
08:36Hmm, sounds good.
08:41Elliot?
08:43Careful.
08:45Nearly made me spill my drink.
08:48What can you tell me about, um, Michelangelo One?
08:53You mean the murder?
08:56How did you know I meant the murder?
08:58Everything else is on public record.
09:01Have a seat.
09:11I thought I just thought I came in that...
09:13You thought I wasn't allowed to man the bridge on my own.
09:15No.
09:16Well, Thinbo allows me to be here as long as I promise to tell him if anything happens.
09:24About the murder?
09:26Attempted murder.
09:27But somebody was killed.
09:28Oh, yes.
09:30I heard the whole story from an engineer.
09:33A Korean called Tankara.
09:35He was on the investigation team.
09:38I met him in the Mekon, which is what the Stardust was called before Lil came back from Island Five.
09:43Are you making this up?
09:44Do you want to hear about this or not?
09:49If you must know, I'd just been assigned as Captain of the Iliad.
09:53And when Tankara heard this, he told me the whole story.
09:58Do you want a drink?
10:00No.
10:01The Captain's name was Vincent Cordweller.
10:04And before you ask, no, I never met him.
10:08His first officer was Mad Sam Weaver.
10:11And was he mad?
10:13She.
10:14Sam was short for Samantha.
10:17And as for mad, well, she turned out to be psychotic, didn't she?
10:22Every time we get close to it, it runs away.
10:25Like a fish.
10:27Petra's database is like a lake.
10:29Yes, and we're floundering around after it, and it's in its element, and we're not.
10:33So, how do you catch a fish?
10:36And what do you use as bait?
10:39Nobody knows what made Samantha Weaver turn against her captain.
10:43Couldn't they do a psyche report on her when they got back?
10:46That would have been a neat trick.
10:47Why?
10:48Oh, she died, right?
10:51It was in the middle of the graveyard shift,
10:53and she tried to lure the captain down to the lower hangar bay.
10:57But she might have wanted to sabotage his space suit, nobody knows.
11:01But instead, the hangar doors opened, and she was flung out into space.
11:06Couldn't they save her?
11:07The hangars are kept under partial pressure.
11:10You open the doors, you pop out like a champagne cork.
11:12Nothing to do, but lie back, enjoy the view,
11:16and wait for the air to run out.
11:19She's probably in orbit somewhere now.
11:23Oh, that's horrible.
11:26Space doesn't take prisoners.
11:36I think I'm going to bed.
11:38Good night.
11:39Hi.
11:39What time is it?
11:41Um, 2200.
11:45I think it's about time you had one of your romantic injuries.
11:48What?
11:49To relieve the boredom.
11:51Why am I friends with you?
11:52I owe you money.
11:53That must be you.
11:54I can't get the door open.
11:56Besides, who thinks you're having a fair whiz?
11:58Just give it a kick.
11:59A crystal?
11:59God, not my time.
12:00Besides yourselves.
12:02What?
12:03That's better.
12:04Or I'm just going to go mad with boredom.
12:07Right.
12:08Now, these identifications are temporary,
12:09so don't you need delusions of grandeur?
12:11OK.
12:11Ready?
12:12Ready.
12:13Right.
12:13Petra, run command 9070.
12:16Please speak for voice print identification.
12:19Oh, uh, usually this is going to work.
12:21Just talk about that.
12:22Um, I am Captain Vincent Corbella.
12:25Identification accepted.
12:27Please state next instruction.
12:29Hey, don't we need a palm print as well?
12:30No, whatever for?
12:31Authenticity.
12:32Shut up and...
12:33Right, um, Petra.
12:34Please state next instruction.
12:37Request recovery of Achilles Shield file number 17632.
12:44The programme is running.
12:48Well, now what?
12:50Well, we sit here and wait for the fish.
13:09Hi, this is your old friend, Ruby Kamara,
13:14mellowing you out as the planets slide around
13:17in their old, old orbits.
13:22Let your biorhythms wind down
13:25as old Ruby slips on something more comfortable.
13:28Something that will ease your passage into dreamland.
13:32And take you through the night
13:34with Red Spot Radio,
13:36the station that's better than bedtime.
13:41Open.
13:42Petra, alarm off.
13:43Petra, what's the problem?
13:45I have a predicted fault in a lower hangar bay.
13:48Petra, describe.
13:49I estimate that the component
13:51will develop a critical failure within two hours.
13:54What's happened?
13:55Something happened.
13:56No, no, no, nothing.
13:57It's just a fault report.
13:58Petra, are you sure about this?
13:59I am 97% sure of failure within two hours.
14:04Daniel, Daniel, wake up!
14:05What?
14:06It's your turn to get some coffee.
14:08Oh, yeah, anything you say, Melody.
14:10Petra, get me, Captain Creasy.
14:12Come on, coffee time, your turn.
14:14Oh, no.
14:15Go away, Finbo.
14:17Petra is predicting a component failure in two hours.
14:20Where?
14:21Lower hangar bay.
14:23Why does she always pick the middle of the night?
14:26Where are you?
14:28Lab three.
14:29I'll see you in Comsen.
14:40What is this, an insomniac's convention?
14:43Oui, we're doing some work.
14:44Right, let's get this sorted, then I can go back to bed.
14:48Coffee?
14:56Terrific.
14:57Petra, put the lights back on in Gantry 1 Corridor 3B, will you?
15:03Petra?
15:06Fine.
15:08Right, this is just a question of remembering where everything is.
15:14Petra, where the hell are you?
15:15Captain Cordwell.
15:17Petra?
15:18The program is running.
15:21Someone's going to have to go out there and fix it.
15:23I know that.
15:25Oh, I'll do it.
15:26You can't.
15:27You've got to stay here and monitor operations, remember?
15:31We could get Mercedes down.
15:34I am not waking Mercedes up.
15:37I don't want her dripping acid in my ear all night.
15:40We'll have to get Paul to fix the bloody thing.
15:49Captain Cordweller.
15:55Captain Cordweller.
15:56I am not Captain Cordweller.
15:58I have a positive voicemail identification, Captain Cordweller.
16:03I'm going to get you for this, Fimbo.
16:17How's it going?
16:1815 minutes.
16:19Yeah, fine.
16:20Now, what do I have to do?
16:22It's a plug-in module.
16:23Find the one in the hang-up, pull it out, put a new one in.
16:25You have got the replacement.
16:27Yep.
16:27How important is this thing?
16:29There's our pairings, the backup for the backup hydraulic regulated backup system.
16:33I don't should have waited till morning.
16:35In space, that remark falls into the category of famous last words.
16:40Stop talking, Paul.
16:41You're taking in nitrogen.
16:43I still don't see why I had to get me up.
16:45Suit function monitoring on.
16:48Who's been using this suit?
16:50Sticks about you.
16:52Mrs. Breland to be, I expect.
16:54Right, well, I'm just doing the finals, and then I'll be off.
16:58Shouldn't we get someone else suited up?
17:01He's only going to the hangar bay.
17:02What could happen to him there?
17:30He's only going to the hangar bay, but he's only going to the hangar bay, but he's only going to
17:32the hangar bay.
17:33Open the door.
17:35The palm print is invalid.
17:46Awaiting further instructions.
17:49Contact Fimbo Lewis.
17:50No such crew member is listed amongst the personnel on board.
17:54Contact Elliot Creasy, then.
17:56No such crew member is listed amongst the personnel on board.
18:00What ship is this?
18:01I do not understand that question.
18:04What ship are you currently operating on?
18:08The Achilles on the Michelangelo expedition.
18:11This data is incorrect.
18:12You are operating on the Ilya, India, Lima, Echo Alpha.
18:17Shut down and reboot.
18:19Captain Cordweller, the program is running.
18:24I'm in the hangar now.
18:26I forgot how big this place was.
18:29Now, the component is on the far wall from you, a bit to the left.
18:33Right.
18:34I'm pushing off now.
18:37This is fun.
18:39We should do this more often.
18:40Yes, yes.
18:41Keep your mind on what you're doing.
18:42Don't be such a misery, Fimbo.
18:45Are you tethered?
18:46Am I supposed to be?
18:47It might be a good idea.
18:49It's a bit late to tell me now.
18:50I'm in mid-air.
18:52Make sure you get a line on as soon as you get to the other side.
18:55Well, don't hold your breath.
18:56It's going to take a while to get there.
18:58I didn't push off Harden.
18:59How long?
19:00A few minutes.
19:02I told you I was at the practice.
19:06The program is running.
19:07Shut up.
19:08Contact the captain.
19:09You are the captain.
19:11Well, contact the first officer then.
19:12The first officer is psychotic and not to be trusted.
19:16She is planning a mutiny.
19:18She is evil.
19:19She must be destroyed.
19:22Oh, boy.
19:33Daniel, have you got the cup of coffee yet?
19:42The program is running.
19:44What is the program?
19:46The program is the solution to the problem of the first officer.
19:49What solution?
19:50The final solution.
19:52Who instigated this program?
19:54You did, Captain Cordweller.
19:56Define program operations.
19:58Stage one.
19:59Report failure of non-vital component in hangar deck.
20:04Stage two.
20:05Open hangar doors at reset time.
20:08How long till the hangar doors open?
20:11Three minutes at 35 seconds.
20:15How far now?
20:16Another six or seven meters.
20:18I should have just the left momentum to make it.
20:20How fast are you going?
20:22Slowly.
20:23You really did underestimate it.
20:24All right.
20:25Don't rub it in.
20:26Try flapping your arms.
20:27Melody Shaw to Compson.
20:29Petra.
20:31Thimbo.
20:32Have you seen Daniel?
20:33We went to get some coffee, didn't we?
20:35You want something, Daniel?
20:37You just have to do it yourself.
20:38Black with no sugar pop it.
20:40Fine.
20:42Paul, have you reached that wall yet?
20:44Open the door.
20:46Your palm print is invalid.
20:48How long till stage two?
20:50Three minutes and eight seconds.
20:51And open the door, you psychotic subroutine!
20:56That's it.
20:57Of course.
20:59You're not the real oversight system, are you?
21:01You are just a simple subroutine.
21:06Petra's out there somewhere.
21:07In there somewhere.
21:08All I have to do is find the override.
21:12I've made contact with the wall.
21:14At last.
21:16Where do I go now?
21:17About a metre up from the hangar door.
21:20What's that?
21:21What's going on?
21:22Are you all right?
21:23Yeah, I'm fine.
21:25It's a door override.
21:26Where?
21:27This country.
21:32Melody!
21:33Daniel!
21:33Where's Paul?
21:34Oh, God, what are you doing?
21:34Where is Paul?
21:35Take the hangar.
21:37Right, get back to lab three and shut it down.
21:40What are you talking about?
21:40The Achilles shield programme.
21:42Pull the plug!
21:42Have you been drinking?
21:43Don't argue, Melody.
21:44Just do it, OK?
21:46Tell Paul to get out of the hangar.
21:48Why?
21:48The door's a programme to open in two minutes.
22:02It was the captain that was insane, not the first officer.
22:05He programmed the computer to open the hangar doors while the first officer was inside.
22:10Paul, did you hear that?
22:11I'm on my way out.
22:12There's no time.
22:13Tether yourself now.
22:14I haven't got a line.
22:16Petra, shut down all non-essential systems.
22:18Captain's code, Red 511.
22:21Systems closing down.
22:22Melody.
22:29There's no use.
22:30It won't go down.
22:33The Achilles shield won't go down.
22:35Petra, get me running programme Lab 3, Terminal 5.
22:39Paul.
22:41The Achilles shield was our ghost.
22:44When we started digging round in it, we activated the murder programme.
22:48Thimbo!
22:49I don't know.
22:49I don't know what to do.
22:54There's a security override.
22:56There's nothing you can do.
22:57Leave it to me.
22:58Door sequence initiated.
23:00Paul.
23:02Paul, can you hear me?
23:03I'm nearly there.
23:05Locking bolts disengaged.
23:14Paul!
23:15Paul!
23:17Paul!
