00:01There's no point in planning a future for us.
00:04You have it all worked out.
00:05I didn't want to think about it.
00:07But now I have, it seems very clear.
00:10It seems very cold-blooded.
00:13I'm sorry.
00:15Sometimes I think there's no room for personal relationships in space.
00:18That's rubbish.
00:19Look at all this.
00:20If you want happy families, if you want marriage, then you stay on Earth.
00:24People come to space for different things.
00:27It doesn't make them immune to feeling lonely.
00:30It doesn't stop them needing to be loved.
00:33Well, maybe other things come to matter more.
00:36What could matter more than how we feel about each other?
00:39The things that last when the passion has come and gone.
00:42The friendship, the comradeship I felt with Elliot and Rosie.
00:47So where are they, Philbo?
00:50Because I'm here now and I love you.
00:57I just filled with me.
01:01So, lets have a day about leaving.
01:02Do you want happy to be ringing?
01:08I love you.
01:10When reaching, Ryan.
01:10It's how it's going.
01:14If I'm sorry for you.
01:17They came to seev Grad as everyone.
01:18We're guiding them for you.
01:26The
01:26Then I changed the access priority, and there it is, the college student record files.
01:30That is really good, Tim.
01:32He's a criminal.
01:33Now I get to know what my tutors think about me, what gets written about me.
01:36And about other people?
01:37Yeah, easy.
01:41Academic reference to Space Command Moon Station, Reed Daniel Weatherby.
01:46Tim.
01:46All right, it's gone now.
01:48Timothy, you ever look at my files again and I find out, I'll kill you.
01:52If Melody doesn't get to you first.
01:54Well, it was only a joke.
01:55Oh, I've got hold of the Jupiter System Central Requisition Network.
01:59Oh, neat.
01:59Can you get into it?
02:00Yeah, if you want me to.
02:01Tim, haven't you got anything else you could be doing?
02:03Hey, let's send 50 bottles of perfume to the all-man mining station on your wall.
02:08Oh, yes, let's.
02:09That would be a really, really grown-up thing to do, wouldn't it, Tranquility?
02:12Daniel, your precious space service has a shipping monopoly.
02:15The interplanetary conglomerates control the market,
02:18and the workers pay the prices or eat vitamins and rich synthetic proteins for the rest of their days.
02:23That's immoral.
02:23It needs busting up.
02:29Hello.
02:29Daniel, can you come to Comson?
02:31Yes, I'll be right there.
02:32Okay, kids, I've got to go.
02:37Hey, don't do anything I wouldn't do.
02:39Should give you a lot of scope.
02:42It's striking a blow against the system, Tim.
02:45Hey, but what about when you put Auntie's stretch marker on in my hamster?
02:48That was Daniel.
02:49I tried to stop him.
02:51You know how I feel about dumb animals.
03:00Is he really cut out for the service?
03:03Yeah, he's a bright lad.
03:05A bright lad with a girlfriend who's expecting a baby?
03:07Doesn't quite fit with the service image.
03:10Service officers have fathered children before now, I hope.
03:13What the devil do you think we all are?
03:16Intrepid loners, single-mindedly dedicated to the conquest of space, their first and only love.
03:22And, Natasha, you've been reading too many space adventures.
03:25I agree that something around here has.
03:26Ah, Daniel.
03:28Daniel.
03:29Daniel.
03:30What have I done?
03:31Bad news.
03:32The worst.
03:34Yes.
03:34We don't quite know how to tell you this.
03:36But somebody has to tell you.
03:37And it's been left to us.
03:38As your fellow officers.
03:40What?
03:41Out of 400 applicants for only 30 places.
03:45You're in, Cadet Officer Weatherby.
03:49I'm in!
03:50I don't believe it!
03:51I made it!
03:51Well done.
03:53Welcome aboard.
03:56Hey!
03:59Well, that was really quick.
04:00I don't believe it.
04:01Yeah, I only wish pay reviews went through this fast.
04:03Sending through a training program at 2300 hours.
04:05And in the meantime, you could look at the approach calculations to Himalaya.
04:08Hang on, hang on!
04:10Celebrations first.
04:11Let the lad get used to the idea.
04:13I've got to tell Melody.
04:14Aww.
04:15Aww.
04:19But I'll see you in the club later.
04:21Well, that's ten gourmet packs of shellfish to the miners' transit hostel charged to the
04:26Carina Entertainment Corporation.
04:28That'll redistribute a little wealth around the system.
04:31Stuffed carp for the masses, then.
04:33I don't even like fish anyway.
04:35I bet no one knows the ins and outs of the ship like you do.
04:38Well, I know a few of her secrets.
04:41I heard about you during the student protest.
04:43Controlling lifts, shutting down the heat.
04:45Wow.
04:46Oh, that was easy.
04:47I bet you could do anything.
04:49I bet you could set the alarms to go off on Gantry 2 in the middle of the night, for
04:54instance.
04:55Yeah, but why would I want to do that?
04:56To see who's coming out of which bedroom, like this big secret about Captain and First
05:01Officer that no one's supposed to know about.
05:03Yeah, but I like Finber.
05:05I bet you could do it, though.
05:07I'm not going to.
05:08You're getting a lot of trouble messing with the safety systems.
05:12Okay, okay.
05:13I suppose it's a bit difficult, that one, even for you.
05:17It's not that difficult.
05:19It's not that difficult at all.
05:21Well, what you do is override the safety system on the B code using access code 456781.
05:30Oh, my God, you're so clever.
05:34Oh, isn't he clever?
05:36Yeah, he's really clever.
05:37We've always said Daniel's clever.
05:38We're always.
05:39I'm so envious.
05:40I am so envious.
05:42Hey, Daniel, does this mean you'll be going to Cranfield?
05:45Oh, it doesn't, does it?
05:46Daniel, does that mean we can all go to Cranfield?
05:48It's an undergraduate bursary, as you all full well know.
05:51I just have to finish my degree.
05:52But I get paid for doing it.
05:53Oh, right.
05:54Well, there had to be money involved in it somewhere.
05:56Do you realise I'll be up in Compton helping to run the ship?
05:59Yeah.
05:59Just think.
06:00It's not fair.
06:01I've got to wait another two years before I can fly.
06:06And that gets you into the security emergency simulator.
06:09Each gantry is on a different master circuit,
06:11so at this point you can decide which part of the ship to activate.
06:14It's complicated, yeah?
06:16Yeah, you've got to be careful you do it right.
06:19Oh, hi.
06:20You working late?
06:21Yeah.
06:22What's that, Tim?
06:23Oh, nothing.
06:24It looked like a command file to me.
06:27Oh, yeah, I was just showing Tranquility, the light of the ship.
06:29I missed out on my student information pack.
06:32Yeah, well, wouldn't it be simpler to show her around?
06:35Still getting lost after all this time.
06:37I have no sense of direction.
06:38Well, the study lab is for college work, not the sort of thing.
06:41I think the pair of you better go somewhere else.
06:43Yeah, sure.
06:45Come on.
06:48So, who are you then, ordering people around?
06:53If you have work to do, work.
06:55If you haven't, go.
06:57Come on.
07:02Thank you very much.
07:03Hey, have you told your father he was?
07:05No, not yet.
07:05You tell him.
07:06He likes you for some reason.
07:07What do you mean for some reason?
07:08Well, he doesn't really like me very much.
07:10Of course he does, then.
07:11Of course he doesn't.
07:11No, he doesn't.
07:12He's always wanted me to do a PhD, you see.
07:15He's got two PhDs and a D lit.
07:17He's got more letters after his name than the entire EC Space Charter.
07:20Lieutenant Weatherby.
07:21Oh, yeah.
07:22Captain, Commodore, Commodore Sir Daniel Weatherby.
07:25Commodore and Mrs. Weatherby.
07:28We're planning to get married, are we?
07:29Can you have in mind?
07:30Melody.
07:33What was that?
07:34I don't know.
07:35I'm proud of you.
07:37What's the problem with that Victoria Frobisher?
07:40No problem I know of.
07:41So why is it she's got no sense of humor?
07:44Why is it she looks like she's going to die anymore?
07:46She's parted from the man she loves.
07:48Separated by the seas of space.
07:50Torn apart by a cruel fate.
07:52So you mean some guy actually loves her?
07:55Yeah.
07:56Jean-Francois.
07:57You must know him.
07:58He's on Island 5.
07:59Dark-haired, mouth keeps falling open, calls everybody baby.
08:03Yeah, that's Jean-Francois.
08:04He's engaged to Victoria.
08:06Yeah.
08:06When they get their PhDs, they're going to get married.
08:09Married.
08:10How can we earthwellers continue to live in the 20th century?
08:14Yes, we know tranquility.
08:16I was just thinking it might take them a long time.
08:19Why, what do you mean?
08:20He wasn't working much the last time I saw him.
08:22Why not?
08:23Or what was he doing?
08:25Saying baby to one of the library girls at Runnemeet College.
08:30So do you think there's room for personal relationships in space?
08:34Oh, the more the better.
08:36Relationships, Drummond.
08:38Oh, you're talking about commitment.
08:40I don't know.
08:41I'm a here and now type of a guy, but...
08:46Yes?
08:47Well, when I'm with a girl, I'm with her 100%.
08:51You men are all the same.
08:53It's honest.
08:54It's more honest than all this.
08:55I will love you forever until I don't stuff.
08:58We get from you women.
08:59Yes, well, right.
09:00I'll be back to take care of it at 2300 hours.
09:02Right.
09:03See you later, Pimbo.
09:09Seems to me you're the type of girl who likes a challenge.
09:11But that's okay.
09:13Because I like a challenge as well.
09:15Can you do the nav set fix and relay our position to Himalia?
09:19I'll be back in 10 minutes.
09:22Not that much of a challenge.
09:25Don't you, Lucero, it's more difficult.
09:26Melody.
09:27I mean, I'm proud of him.
09:30But I'm fond of him.
09:31Melody, will you listen to him?
09:32I don't love him.
09:33I don't think I do that.
09:34I just see him as a friend.
09:37And as a father of my baby.
09:38Listen to me, Melody.
09:39He wants to marry me.
09:39He wants me to live with him.
09:40Will you just listen to me a minute?
09:42It's about Jean-Francois.
09:44Who cares about Jean-Francois?
09:46One of the girls on Island 5, according to Tranquility.
09:50What?
09:50He's cheating on Victoria.
09:53Can you believe it?
09:54No.
09:55Well, I mean, yeah.
09:56And there's a rumour going around that his PhD proposal hasn't been accepted again.
10:00Really?
10:01No kidding.
10:01Oh, Melody.
10:03Well, I always knew he wasn't as clever as he said he was.
10:06What a bastard, though.
10:08Well, he's a pathological womaniser.
10:11I've read about them.
10:14Who knows about this?
10:16Fiona, me and Gabby.
10:18Tranquility told us.
10:20Tranquility?
10:21I tell you, that girl is poison.
10:25What, do you think she's making it up?
10:29No.
10:30No, I don't think she is.
10:45Patra, interactive command mode.
10:48State priority.
10:50Use a general access code like INS 652901 to get into command mode.
10:56And then...
10:57Patra, code INS 652901.
11:00Which system do you require?
11:03Onboard safety override system.
11:11You give up easily.
11:13I can't talk to you when you're like this.
11:15Do you think I have a right to be angry?
11:18We were doing all right until you started asking, where's it going?
11:21Well, it's perfectly clear that I, for one, am not going anywhere.
11:24Don't start on about high flyers and poor little passed over Thimbo again.
11:28It's the reality of the situation.
11:31Situations change.
11:32You didn't have a commendation for bravery the last time you were up before the review board.
11:36Nothing's changed.
11:38Space Command don't like me.
11:40They've never liked me.
11:41You know moon station politics.
11:43All it needs is a change of Commodore and you'll be back in favor.
11:46We'll both move on together.
11:50I'm trying to tell you that I don't have casual flings, Thimbo.
11:56So it's over.
11:58Well, it's no more than I expected.
12:00Thimbo, Louis, will you stop living out these lone spacefarer fantasies from a bygone age?
12:05It's ridiculous.
12:06It's unhealthy.
12:08We love each other.
12:10I'm not going to let you push me out of your life.
12:17So at this point you can decide which areas of the ship to activate.
12:22Specify service.
12:24Uh, I don't know.
12:26Gravitational.
12:26Decompression.
12:27Whatever.
12:28Warning.
12:28This instruction is not specific to a single gantry.
12:32No, cancel that, Petra.
12:34Sequence must be completed.
12:36Petra, I said cancel.
12:39Well, we can keep her mouth shut.
12:41And so can Fiona.
12:42But Gabby.
12:43To be honest with you, Sarah, I really couldn't care.
12:45Well, I suppose she's going to find out sooner or later.
12:48I'm off to the common room.
12:50Are you coming?
12:50Yeah, in a bit.
12:51I can't believe we're already out of cleanser.
12:54Sarah.
12:58Please terminate sequence, Petra.
13:01Repeat.
13:02Reported fault can only be cleared through the master circuit reset function.
13:09No, stop it.
13:11Can't you see there's no emergency?
13:13In 10 seconds.
13:14Timshaw, Petra, get me Timshaw.
13:16Out.
13:17Seven, six, five.
13:30What?
13:32What?
13:32What?
13:33What?
13:34What?
13:35What?
13:36What?
13:37What?
13:38What?
13:39What?
13:39What?
13:39What?
13:40He moved up with his example?
13:42He moved up to a circulatory station inомcentral room.
13:50Melanie!
13:51I've got Melanie, you alright?
13:54Ah!
14:10March!
14:10Just calm down. Tell me where it hurts.
14:12Is it your legs?
14:13What? No, no, no. Don't try to move anything.
14:16You'll be all...
14:16I think it's the baby.
14:20Oh, my God.
14:23Dr. Shazlon, quickly.
14:24It's an emergency, please.
14:26It's all wrong, Mel.
14:28Get to acceleration stations and strap yourselves in.
14:32Shazlon.
14:33Christophe, Melody's hurt. Where are you?
14:35Uh, cabin one. She's fat. What kind of fool?
14:37I don't know. Off the bunk ladder, I think.
14:39She's got a sharp pain in her stomach. I don't know what to do.
14:41Okay, get her onto the bed and strap down, both of you.
14:43It's the baby. Look, if it is the baby,
14:45nothing's going to happen that quickly.
14:46Just keep her calm and I'll get you as soon as I can, okay?
14:49Yeah, yeah.
14:54Life support systems.
14:55All nominal.
14:56What the hell could have done it?
14:58Petra systems checks all areas.
15:01Acknowledged.
15:02Is Petra programmed to call an emergency drill?
15:04No idea.
15:06Full alert on all four gantries.
15:08What's going on?
15:08Well, everything was fine.
15:10There was absolutely no warning.
15:11We think Petra's called an emergency drill.
15:14She can't do that, check. It's not a hole punch.
15:16Fire wouldn't affect all gantries.
15:18All safety's a nominal.
15:20Dr. Shazlon calling concept.
15:22Petra.
15:23Captain, what's the problem?
15:24We're not sure.
15:25I'm in the hub, but I've got a casualty in gantry four.
15:28I need to get up there.
15:28We're running a full systems check. Can you hold on?
15:30Make it quick.
15:32Nothing.
15:33All our support systems nominal.
15:35Gantry rotation normal.
15:37We're at full speed.
15:38Don't understand this.
15:40What is going on?
15:42Stand down from emergency stations.
15:45Stand down from emergency stations.
15:49Oh, it's all right, Melody. I'm here. Just hang on.
15:51I don't have any bloody choice, Sarah.
15:53Oh, Christy.
15:55Look, she's in the most terrible pain.
15:57Okay, tell me what happened.
15:58I don't know. I just came in here.
15:59I'm on the floor.
16:00She's been...
16:01Okay.
16:02Try and relax, Melody.
16:03You need to get a Dominican.
16:04Yeah.
16:05Okay.
16:06There just aren't that many things that would settle full arms all over the ship.
16:10Transient loss of power to the gantry rotation system.
16:13Well, they've been steady at 97% efficiency for the past two hours.
16:16Life support systems.
16:18Nominal efficiency.
16:20Sudden upsurge in external radiation.
16:22It would have to be massive.
16:26Nothing.
16:28A fault in the alarm system itself. What does Petra say?
16:31Petra says very little.
16:32Petra, give calls of alarm at 2104 hours.
16:38Multiple hazard reports.
16:40Yes, but how? What part of the ship?
16:43No information.
16:45Told you.
16:46Just not possible.
16:47Petra, a wrong fault diagnostic on the safety system on each individual circuit.
16:52Oh, this will take all night.
16:54Do you have other plans?
16:56Any better?
17:00Very great. Thanks for coming up.
17:02What happened?
17:02She's had a fall. She's a bit shaken.
17:04Is it the baby?
17:05I hope not.
17:06Membranes are still intact, which is good.
17:08Yeah.
17:09But is she in labour?
17:10She's having contractions.
17:12It could be a false labour, in which case we can intervene.
17:15But if it's due to fetal distress or injury, well, let's just hope it doesn't come to that.
17:20What do you want me to do?
17:21Set up the monitor.
17:21I'll close it to her.
17:22Let's have a chance.
17:24Can we stop?
17:27If it is labour, what are our chances?
17:32Where is she?
17:33They're treating her now.
17:34Is she all right?
17:35I don't know.
17:36What is it?
17:37What's wrong?
17:39Daniela, I think it might be the baby.
17:42what happened she had a fall when the safety alarms went off and then the pain started
17:51Daniel I don't think it's a good idea
18:02commsen gantry corridor atmosphere regulator functional corridor temperature sensors functional
18:10corridor fire sprinklers functional radiation sensors functional safety systems check complete
18:20the whole ship nothing not a pressure system out of calibration there's nothing that could have
18:26triggered off those alarms so what next full manual safety inspection of the whole ship now
18:35it takes all night drummond you do gantry two in the central hub area
18:39finbo gantry four on the dome i'll do commsen gantry okay if that doesn't show anything we'll be left
18:45with only two possibilities an error in petra's operational system or a deliberate computer
18:51overhead which is worse the baby's fine vital signs normal position normal no signs of stress
19:01dilation is less than one cent nine point six minutes okay this should help
19:10okay melody i'm going to give you a little shot now just to stop the pain and make you feel
19:14a bit
19:14more comfy okay i want her to lose my baby no no no your baby's just a little shaken up
19:18just like you
19:19well but she's fine otherwise it's absolutely nothing to worry about okay oh she might lose the baby
19:27what she was having the most awful pain oh god i don't believe it oh sarah's only news she's still
19:33in
19:33medicom christoph's with her now well did anyone hear anything about where the alarms went off no
19:37they'd make some kind of announcement wouldn't you after causing a panic like that yeah well i hope
19:41it wasn't just if it was daniel's gonna kill whoever called it
19:52go away i want to explain it's not what you think yeah it was an accident i knew it was
19:57you
19:58i just wanted to see if i can get into the system like you did i told you it was
20:01dangerous
20:02it wouldn't let me out this stupid thing set the alarms off by itself computers aren't stupid
20:07people are we're in this together okay we're not i've got to record it you giving me the instructions
20:13be my friend to me god you're really scared if we both keep quiet look it was you who set
20:19the alarms
20:20off and now melody's sick look she's probably gonna lose her baby she'll be all right you don't care
20:25about anybody do you just leave me alone 15 minutes since the last pains seems to be working
20:33do you think she'll be all right well she'll have to be watched for the next 24 hours but
20:37yeah but do you think she'll be okay chances are good what do you do now i'm just checking the
20:44baby's vital signs again my baby it's all right melody it's okay try and sleep and relax okay i'll stay
20:51with
20:55you open
20:56open
21:01baby it's okay no problem but melody's going to have to stay in here for a day or so and
21:06after that
21:07she's gonna have to take it easy for quite a few days can i see her no excitement just a
21:13couple of
21:21minutes okay
21:21hi hi i was so frightened daniel i can't tell you do you never i thought she can't come now
21:31it's too soon
21:32i haven't learned all those silly breathing exercises well it looks like she's thought better of it anyway
21:39oh why did the alarm go off i don't know i'm gonna find out
21:46attention please the emergency situation was in force alarm although we are now certain no danger exists
21:53routine security checks are taking place that's ridiculous i agree it's very worrying
21:58look melody got hurt she could have lost the baby she still could lose the baby
22:02well get to the bottom of this if it means checking every circuit and every memory bank
22:11it's a serious matter tampering with the safety system
22:14what do you mean you think somebody's making a joke
22:18it is the most likely explanation
22:19who'd be stupid enough to do a thing like that
22:22or clever enough
22:23i used to think my sense of humor was warped
22:28i'll see you later on
