00:00on The Apprentice. I'm sending you to Hong Kong. You have to go and find nine items. A tough first
00:07task. Right, come on. Go, go, go, go, go. Saw the candidates crumble. We're yet to find an item.
00:14Are we going up or down? And a dismal performance from Nikki's team. Where is the driver? We don't
00:20know. We've lost our driver. Handed Kieran's boys a hollow victory. I don't call this a win. It's
00:26a bloody disgrace. Leaving Nikki. You only got one item. And Georgie. You leave me nowhere
00:33to go. In the firing line. You're fired. You don't know how serious this is until you're
00:39sat in front of Lord Sugar fighting for your life. 4.30am. Good morning. Good morning.
00:53Lord Sugar would like to meet you at the Paddington Bear Experience in central London. The cars
00:59will be outside in 20 minutes.
01:01Right, thank you. Wakey, wakey, everyone. Go on, Georg, Georg, wakey, wakey, rise
01:08and shine. We're off to Paddington Bear Experience in 20 minutes. Oh, God. What do you think it's
01:14going to be? I think it's something to do with kids. All right, let's go. I don't know what
01:20task this is, but I'm ready for it. Let's win this. Let's beat the girls. I'm sharing first.
01:25I'm a bit concerned. No. Because two of the girls have just left. We can't leave again. I
01:32do not want to be back in that boardroom because I will throw someone under the bus, I'm telling
01:35you now.
01:36The ladies right now, I know they're going to try and get vengeance. Mate, I don't lose.
01:52Bye. On the banks of the Thames, the Paddington Bear Experience. A place for family adventures
02:07and marmalade-filled mischief. Good morning. Welcome to Storytime. Lawrence? Thank you, Baroness
02:22me. Karishma. Are you sitting comfortably? We shall begin.
02:37Once upon a time, there was a very clever businessman who had a big pot of gold to share. To decide
02:48who got the gold, the clever businessman asked 20 candidates to complete a series of difficult
02:55tasks. Sure enough, a winner emerged. Someone who shone through and worthy of the gold. As
03:04for the rest of them, well, the clever businessman banished them from his boardroom, and they
03:10were never heard from again. Anyway, that's enough of that. The kids' storybook market is
03:18worth 800 million in the UK alone. So for your next task, I want you to create a story for
03:26four to six-year-olds. You'll need to produce a book and an audio version to go with it. Tomorrow,
03:32you'll be pitching to retailers, and the team that secures the most orders will be one step
03:38closer to living happily ever after. Now, ladies, you lost two of your team members in the first task,
03:47so Lord Sugar would like you to pick one of the boys to join your team. Have you made your decision?
03:57Yes. And who is it you're selecting? Levi. Levi, please join the ladies' team. All clear? Off you go. Thank you.
04:11Thank you. Two days' children's story. Thank you for picking me. I know it's not always put your
04:18hands up, so noted. Turning tall tales into sky-high sales. Oh, kids' storybooks. Kids' storybooks.
04:26Sounds like a really fun task. Page one. We can just literally go wild. Let the inner child come out.
04:32Yeah. Pick a project manager. I personally would like to nominate myself to be PM. I've got a four-year-old
04:39child. Anyone else want to nominate themselves? I think because you've got a kid, it makes the
04:43most obvious choice as well. I would like to just add something. Yep, sure. So I'll put my name
04:48forward. I feel like I let you boys down a little bit last week. I think I've got some great ideas,
04:52which I'd like to share with the team, if chosen. Okay, let's take it to a vote now then. For
04:57Marcus, put your hands up. Perfect. That's sorted. Amazing.
05:02On the other team. I'd like to put myself forward. This is completely my bag. Setting
05:10out her story. I've got five children, all being in that age range. Property expert,
05:16Andrea. I'm a school governor, background in preschool. I mean, I have personal experience
05:23of a written book, which were a giraffe, and it's been a major hit. Oh, wow. Amazing. Yeah.
05:28Okay, fab. Absolutely, yeah. Right, so who votes for Andrea?
05:32I think it's you, then. Thank you. Andrea, have a PM. Oh, I'm so honoured.
05:39We are going to win today. I'm so excited. Honestly, if we don't get this, you know, I'll
05:44happily be fired. If we don't win this, we've got this in the bag. Me being project manager
05:49just about leading the team and getting to where we need to be. Yeah. Along the corridor.
05:56I've got a story idea, I think. Next for the boys. So mine is Geno Giraffe. He's on a
06:02spaceship and his whole end goal is basically to have a poo. Flash out a plot. Do we want
06:08to go through the planets until you get to Uranus and that's where he takes the poo?
06:11Oh, no. No, no, no. That's... Okay. I would suggest this thing as if someone going
06:16back to space, it should be a human. We should go astro. Can I just have one more idea? My
06:20concept would be going off something that's already there. Go look to the three bears.
06:24Every room is a different... Like, this toilet's too big. This toilet's too small. This toilet
06:28is just right. Good, good, good. I'm happy with that. Love that.
06:33The team are talking about astronauts. They're talking about toilet humour. But is it an inspirational
06:37story? Is it a spin on a fairy tale? At the moment, I've got a lot of Martians, but not a lot
06:43of meaning. Perfect. Guys, so, to finalise, this boy called Astro, five years old, goes
06:47into space and, essentially, he's trying to find the perfect toilet.
06:52Brainstorming their bestseller... I had just a quick brief idea. The preschool children,
06:58four to six, they're going to be starting school. Project manager, Andrea.
07:03Could be a book about starting school, about being nervous, trying to alleviate any worries
07:08and anxiety. That's just an idea. So, my idea is about a zebra that doesn't have any stripes.
07:15So, he's on a journey in the jungle, and along the way, he meets different animals, and they
07:20end up giving him a stripe. So, it's, like, coloured stripes. I do like that idea.
07:24Are we not using the school thing about... What is your decision? What do you want?
07:27I think we need a main character, which could be a zebra. Yeah. Then we're, like, worried
07:31about what we're going to have for the lunch. Yeah. Can I just say, right now, I'm seeing
07:34it as if there's two ideas where, does the zebra do zebra-like things in a safari, or do
07:39they do things that children would do in a school, like, bringing the school into the
07:42safari? Yeah. Children would go in a school. Yeah.
07:45They've got an idea about a zebra that has no stripes, and he gets his stripes, and then
07:49they're talking about the zebra being in a school. I think they've got a basis of an idea,
07:53but I don't think it's very well thought out at this stage. We've got those. Yeah, I think
07:58it's a great story, guys. I love it.
08:03Marshaling his main characters. Going into the story team, we have Town, we have
08:08myself, we have Harry, we have Lawrence, and we have Connor, and everyone else is on design team.
08:14Business owner, Marcus. In terms of sub-team leader, I would like to make
08:20Kieran, you'll be sub-team leader because you did put yourself forward earlier. Yeah, happy with that.
08:25Do you mind your rationale behind that? I mean, does he have a design agency, or...?
08:30Are you putting yourself forward? Well, because I do have a design agency.
08:34I do a lot of branding with my own company, and so... Yeah. I do understand, Dan, however,
08:38due to timing, please, if we can just respect the decision for Kieran to be sub-team leader. Yeah, sure.
08:42If that's okay. So sorry about that. Thank you. Right. Amazing.
08:45I do have a few concerns. I think with Kieran being sub-team leader,
08:50it might just be his way or no way, and he doesn't have a marketing or branding background,
08:54so I can't really see what skills Kieran's bringing to the team as being sub-team leader.
08:58Right, let's do it, boys. Let's do it, boys. Come on.
09:02Who has a preference of going on the design team?
09:05OK, so the rest of us would like to go on the story team. Yeah.
09:08I would like to put myself on the sub-team leader just because I have a lot of experience in illustration and design.
09:13Yeah. OK, sub-team leader. Welcome. Thank you.
09:16Right, guys, please remember, we're a team, and we're going to win it as a team, OK?
09:20We've got two, guys. Sorry.
09:2410am. While half of each team head off to create their character...
09:29We haven't got an idea of what Marcus wants in terms of the creative.
09:33Yeah, I think we have to probably just make a bit of an educated decision on what we think.
09:37The rest will pin down a perfect plot.
09:40This isn't about creating a sales pipeline. It's about creating a sales poop line.
09:45No!
09:47One, two, three, poo!
09:49Central London.
09:54Base for both design teams.
09:57Publishing house, Bonnier Books.
09:59Morning. Good morning. Nice to meet you.
10:01Hiya. Hiya.
10:02Honing in on a hero.
10:04What ideas do we have for names, girls?
10:06I've got a zebra.
10:07I've got a zebra.
10:08Like a Z name.
10:09Roxanne earns her stripes.
10:11I was thinking something along the lines of Zabori.
10:14Oh, that's nice, yeah.
10:15I think it's a strong name. I'm happy with Zabori.
10:17Yeah. OK, yeah.
10:18All right, so we've got Zabori the zebra.
10:20Without a clear steer from mission control...
10:24So, Astro the astronaut, if you can now draw a body for us, you know, almost like a...
10:29Yeah.
10:30OK, got it.
10:31Yeah.
10:32Sub-team leader Kieran takes command.
10:35OK, let's get some colour on. So, please can we have...
10:38Sorry, sorry, sorry.
10:39Suit silver.
10:40Everyone stop a minute.
10:42Please can we get some colour on the body?
10:44We're going to go for a red cuff, a red neck, and a red boot.
10:52In terms of main colour, guys, let's get him his suit orange.
10:56That colour is associated with, like, being in prison, you know.
11:00But four and six-year-olds aren't going to know what people wear in prison.
11:05Dan has told everybody he's an expert at designing, but when he's coming up with suggestions,
11:09the sub-team leader is actually shutting him down.
11:11I think he wants to get on with completing the task rather than listening to members of his team
11:15who might be able to help him.
11:17Let's go outrageous on the colour for the flag.
11:19So, what about green?
11:20I'm not sure if green might be too contrasting.
11:22Right, so, can we make the flag green?
11:29Tile Yard, King's Cross.
11:31So, Astro has been travelling for a very long time.
11:34He really needs a poo-hoo.
11:35While Astro gets off to a rocketing start...
11:38Big letters down here.
11:40Yeah, yeah, yeah.
11:41Yeah, yeah, perfect.
11:42Exclamation mark.
11:43Exclamation mark.
11:44For school governor Andrea...
11:45Right, team, you know what we're doing?
11:47You've got the brief.
11:48We took 20 pages.
11:49..a lesson in nailing the narrative.
11:52So, let's get on with the first page.
11:54Should we start straight away?
11:55What are we doing?
11:56We need to get into the story, don't we?
11:58I think we could start off with the child leaving home.
12:00Yeah.
12:01And then the last sentence, maybe, of each page.
12:03Would you, like, wear?
12:04Just keep going.
12:05Or it will be just fine.
12:07Could maybe the zebra have another friend or a sibling
12:09that's in a slightly older year?
12:10I think that's confusing.
12:11OK.
12:12Let's come back to what we're doing again.
12:15Why don't we bring...
12:16Can I just stop it there, please?
12:18Oh, we're not going to get this done.
12:19We're not talking over each other.
12:21I'm the project manager.
12:22Everybody's contents will come into this,
12:24but we can't keep interrupting
12:25because we've got to get it down on paper.
12:27OK?
12:28Yeah.
12:29There's too many people trying to be in the limelight.
12:33That is the problem.
12:34And he's trying to pull people back
12:36because we can't finish a page, never mind a book.
12:39Let's get the story down, please.
12:41But we can't...we can't over-talk.
12:43OK?
12:461.30pm.
12:48Maybe the grass is with the big eyes
12:49so you can amplify his eyes and make him look good.
12:51Yeah.
12:52Great.
12:53Fab.
12:54So let's get our stripes on.
12:56Yep.
12:57While the girls zero in on their zebra...
12:59Oh, that's very cute.
13:00Introducing Zabori, guys.
13:01What do you think?
13:02Love him?
13:03Love him.
13:04Yeah.
13:05Fantastic.
13:06For Marcus's story squad...
13:07I think we should have the same line for all of them
13:09when he knocks on the door.
13:10Like, hi, Ru.
13:11Yeah.
13:12Can I do a poo in your loo?
13:13All hopes pinned on poo.
13:17Finally, he found the perfect loo
13:18to do the most amazing poo.
13:20The kids are going to start laughing at this.
13:22Yeah.
13:23My main fear right now is the lack of conclusion.
13:24Yeah.
13:25So what's the conclusion of this story?
13:26Take it out moral.
13:27I think the end goal is that he's done the poo
13:29and then he's fine and he's happy.
13:31OK.
13:32That's fine.
13:33That's good enough.
13:34Yeah.
13:35I do have a fear that we have oversimplified things.
13:38We have dumbed everything down a bit more than I did want to,
13:41but that's the role of a project manager.
13:43You have to make certain decisions,
13:44and it's a decision that I have to stick by.
13:46OK, perfect.
13:47Let's just make it quick.
13:48Marcus, you have a four-year-old.
13:49Like, is this on brand or what he is?
13:51Yeah.
13:52Would he find it funny?
13:53Yeah, so he would actually find it funny.
13:54Clock ticking.
13:55Shall we get the script down and then we can drop the pictures in afterwards?
14:01For Andrea's authors...
14:03Why should we just put...
14:04Stop, stop, stop, stop, stop.
14:06It's unconscious of time.
14:07Zavari was struggling with his shoelaces.
14:09He forgot how to tie them.
14:10Yeah.
14:11A case of writer's block.
14:13I think we're done with that.
14:15No, we can't because we need to add the slogan,
14:17but it would be just fine.
14:19I know we're doing repetition,
14:20but do we necessarily need the repetition every single page?
14:23We're not going to get this bus finished.
14:25That's what you wanted to add.
14:26Can we just stop, please?
14:28We're never going to get this started down.
14:30But you don't even know what you're trying to do, either.
14:32You literally have timers.
14:33I know.
14:34How many pages have you got?
14:35We've nearly got...
14:36What's that?
14:3712.
14:38We've nearly got 12 pages.
14:39How many do you need?
14:4020.
14:41We can...
14:42We can all...
14:43Yes, we'll just...
14:44We're probably putting too much words on one page,
14:46that's how I said.
14:48Can we just finish the book?
14:49Because we need to end the book.
14:50I know we've got to get pictures on,
14:52but we're going to have a book,
14:53a story with no ending on.
14:57Towards the end,
14:58it was so sort of brutal,
14:59straight to the point.
15:00There was shouting,
15:01there was no sort of professionalism
15:03in the way she was delivering,
15:04and, yeah, I didn't like that.
15:06We just had to get it down on paper, really,
15:08or we wouldn't have had a story book.
15:09I feel like a lot of things changed
15:11from, like, what we originally discussed.
15:12From this morning to now.
15:13Yeah.
15:17Mid-afternoon.
15:18In charge of designing the perfect picture book.
15:21Let's...
15:22All right, moment of truth, guys.
15:23For Kieran's half of the boys.
15:25OK, so they put illustrations on to help us.
15:27That's good.
15:28Which ain't bad.
15:29A first look at their sketched-out story.
15:31So, you know what?
15:32It's not too busy as well,
15:33which is quite good.
15:34I'm very impressed.
15:35Yeah.
15:37For the other team...
15:38Zabori, it's time for school,
15:41said Zabori's mum.
15:43..creative differences.
15:47Zabori was struggling with his she-laces.
15:49He forgot how to tie them,
15:51but it would be just fun.
15:52Oh, God.
15:53Oh, boy.
15:54Wait, hang on.
15:55Why is there no reference to gaining his stripes?
15:58Guys, I'm not...
15:59I'm not being funny.
16:00Where is the funniness in there?
16:01But this is quite lacklustre.
16:03It's so disappointing.
16:04I'm confused.
16:05Like, the whole storyline doesn't follow.
16:07There's zero creativity.
16:08That picture that we've done there
16:10has more creativity than this entire story.
16:13Didn't Angel say she's literally written a book before?
16:16The book that she wrote
16:17must have been a colouring book
16:18because this is a travesty.
16:21I don't know what the PM team
16:22have been doing for the past couple of hours.
16:24It seems they've been twiddling their thumbs
16:26and deciding in the last five minutes
16:27let's write a storybook
16:28because it's pitiful.
16:29What we got back,
16:30I can't believe they've actually handed this over to us.
16:32What we're going to have to do
16:33is crack on with what we've got.
16:34Yeah, yeah.
16:35And let's hope for the best.
16:38Bringing to life Astro's hunt for a loo.
16:41So, Dan, can I leave you in charge of aliens?
16:45Yeah.
16:46Sub-team leader Kieran is back at the controls.
16:50OK, so look, I've got an alien here.
16:51So that's my alien design.
16:53Do you want to...
16:54Should we add a bit more detail into it?
16:55Not just a two-second sketch?
16:57You know, think about it, Dan.
16:58Think of colours, think of size, think of shapes.
17:00OK?
17:01So, in the meantime, Dave...
17:02I'm not quite sure just yet whether...
17:04Well, we haven't got time.
17:05Please may I have Astro and the three aliens
17:08coming down the page.
17:09OK, Dan, describe your three aliens.
17:12Like I said, let's keep it simple.
17:13Just do one alien, we'll change the colour.
17:15Look, that's the image there.
17:16Do you want to describe it to the gentleman?
17:19Do you want me to describe it or you can look with your eyes?
17:22I can do it.
17:23Yeah, I can do it.
17:26Some of my points aren't being heard
17:27because I think he's in a frantic rush to get everything completed.
17:30But, yeah, I think Kieran just needs to listen to us a little bit more
17:32and start being very abrupt and abrasive in some of his words
17:35and the way that he's speaking to us.
17:37OK, next page, please.
17:38Hang on, should we not put numbers on the pages, guys?
17:41At the end?
17:42Because that's a very simple thing to do.
17:44I know, but you keep saying at the end, Kieran,
17:46but I don't... I can't see an ending.
17:47I need 24 pages complete.
17:49Once I've got images and text, we can then add...
17:52Because, again, it's very minimal.
17:58North London.
17:59Recording studio, 2020.
18:02Zabori, it's time for school.
18:06While Andrea's team lay down the story of Zabori.
18:10Would you like my green apple?
18:14Next chapter for Marcus's boys.
18:16Please, Ru, can I do a poo in your loo?
18:18Narrating Astro's epic quest.
18:23Do you want to do for Doodoo Land?
18:27Something like that.
18:28These guys like it? Are we in?
18:29I'm happy with that.
18:30Let's do it.
18:31That's a bit too much, though.
18:32I'm picturing myself with my four-year-old son,
18:34listening to his audiobook.
18:35I'm happy with that.
18:36So, yeah, let's do it, boys.
18:37Yeah.
18:38Let's go.
18:39OK.
18:43That's fine.
18:48We have to remember to do the continuation of the stripes as they add.
18:58Finishing touches.
18:59So, page 11, yellow stripe added.
19:01What's on page 12?
19:02It will be just fine.
19:03This is, like, actually making the most out of, like, very little.
19:08OK, cool.
19:09Next page.
19:10Can you put Zabori talking to the lion on that page
19:13and just let's make them both a little bit smaller?
19:16OK.
19:17Yeah.
19:18OK, cool.
19:19Next page, please.
19:20On this page, can we move this text down into the empty gap?
19:21Yeah.
19:22Nice, nice.
19:23That's perfect.
19:24Yeah.
19:25Yeah, that's nice.
19:26Fantastic.
19:27It will be just...
19:28Fine.
19:31Their whole concept initially was a zebra who gains colourful stripes.
19:36That whole message has been lost.
19:38It's not in the narrative.
19:39It's just a visual in the storybook.
19:42I think we did the best we could.
19:43Yeah, and to be honest, it does look good.
19:45I've seen children's books.
19:46They...
19:47We did well.
19:50For the boys.
19:51OK, guys, come on, we're almost there.
19:53Let's get this done, please.
19:54Yeah.
19:55Print deadline looming.
19:56For this, guys, it's going to be 21.
19:58This is going to be page 21.
20:00A plot twist.
20:03I would also just like to make a point.
20:06I was actually counting the pages and we've missed, like,
20:08two or three of the pages out of the book.
20:12You didn't want to mention that earlier?
20:13No, because...
20:14Can we just zoom out?
20:16Sorry, this is exactly why earlier on I said
20:18we should be numbering the pages so we're keeping on track.
20:22OK, that one, I think, is the one that we missed out.
20:24Right.
20:25We can't do anything about it now.
20:26OK, guys, I've got to send this off to the printers now.
20:29OK.
20:32This team have wasted so much time.
20:34They've ended up with an incomplete book
20:35and there's two pages missing any illustrations at all.
20:39Having a book with no pictures for a four to six-year-old,
20:43I think, is unforgivable.
20:45Yes, we've missed illustrations on two pages, but we've got a book.
20:49Yeah.
20:50I think those two pages, what we can say is that kids can draw.
20:52Yeah.
20:53They can put their imagination in.
20:557pm.
20:58Stories told.
20:59We've done it.
21:00We made a masterpiece.
21:01An absolute masterpiece.
21:02I am very proud of every single one of you.
21:04Yeah.
21:05And let's just hope the design team will pull through.
21:07Books designed.
21:08The story of Zabori is done.
21:10Let's see what others think of it later.
21:12Let's go.
21:13Let's make a move.
21:14For both teams, bedtime.
21:248am.
21:25So I'm really excited to see the product that you've come up with.
21:28I'm not hoping it's going to be fantastic.
21:29Can't wait.
21:31While Andrea's team meet their main character.
21:33OK, so I want to introduce you guys to Zabori.
21:37Oh!
21:40I love that thing.
21:41Oh!
21:42I love it.
21:43It's really key.
21:45For Marcus's boys.
21:46The suspense is killing me.
21:47Oh man, I'm so excited.
21:49Astro has landed.
21:52Wow!
21:54OK, he's got a flag.
21:55What do you think, boys?
21:56Wow.
21:57Yeah, I think this is fantastic.
21:58This is exactly how I envisioned it.
21:59Well, I'm pleased you like it,
22:00because we didn't have much to go on,
22:01but we just took an educated decision on what we thought.
22:03What do you mean you didn't have much to go on?
22:05Obviously we had Astro.
22:06Yeah.
22:07That's all we had.
22:08Sorry about that, but yeah,
22:09I think this is in line with our, you know,
22:12vision of what we wanted to do.
22:13I'm very happy.
22:18Next for the girls.
22:19Bang, bang, bang.
22:21Zabori fell over his laces.
22:23His face went bright red.
22:25The big reveal of Zabori's story.
22:28It was all just fine.
22:33First impressions.
22:34I think it fits the bill.
22:35Can I just add, sorry, sorry to put a dampener on it.
22:38I just feel like it might be difficult to explain how the zebra got the stripes,
22:42because that should have been in the storyboard.
22:45My priority was to have a completed book.
22:48There were no point in having...
22:49And do you know what?
22:50We literally had ten minutes to do the rest of the...
22:52Tasha, this is what it was yesterday morning.
22:55You're interrupting constantly.
22:57With who?
22:58Because I was doing the...
22:59Talking around.
23:00You're doing it again.
23:01People keep talking over each other.
23:03And if I'm going to be honest with you,
23:05if you worked for me, you wouldn't be working for me anymore.
23:11Across the hall...
23:13He really needs to poo.
23:18The boy's toilet-themed tale.
23:22I'm just imagining, like, me and my four-year-old son
23:24sitting there reading this. Amazing.
23:28Why is there no illustrations on this page?
23:30What happened?
23:31It just got missed.
23:32And that's what I picked up,
23:33because I was counting the pages.
23:35And you told us right at the end,
23:36and you said that you figured it out earlier and didn't say no.
23:38No, I was...
23:39Sorry?
23:40I was counting the pages,
23:41but you were so sure of yourself, Kieran,
23:43that you knew exactly what you were doing.
23:44What were the pages there?
23:45There was whole illustrations and graphics that were missed.
23:47So, Dan, was that on you?
23:48No.
23:49So, who was responsible for that?
23:51I guess it was you, Kieran,
23:52were ultimately responsible.
23:54I think, yeah,
23:55that's not good at all.
23:58Those two pages have really irked me.
23:59There should have been some sort of point
24:01in which they said,
24:02actually, let's review what we're doing.
24:03I could blame individuals,
24:04but at the end of the day, it's a group effort.
24:06So, I just think, yeah, it's ridiculous.
24:08I can sense a bit of friction in the sub team.
24:11Absolutely.
24:12Because of that, I want to actually make some changes.
24:15Dan, you're going to swap with Tan to join us
24:17to do the presentation and the pitching,
24:19just because I want to supervise you myself.
24:25So, the people going to consumer research are
24:27Karishma, Carrington, Roxanne and Levi.
24:31I know that we started on a negative.
24:34Positive mindsets.
24:35Let's go,
24:36because we need to do excellent today.
24:38Okay?
24:39Yeah.
24:41Let's do this.
24:429am.
24:43Today, half of each team will prepare their pitches.
24:46So, I would really like to introduce,
24:48I'm going to absolutely kick energy and emotion into this
24:50and really bring it to life.
24:52Amazing comment.
24:54While the rest gather feedback on their fairy tales.
24:58It was a bit frosty in there.
25:00There was tension between the PM team.
25:02Let's just hope that they can deliver in this pitch.
25:06Central London.
25:07Are we excited?
25:08Yeah!
25:10Love it, love it.
25:11Hoping for an out of this world response.
25:14Everyone's got a book.
25:15Everyone's got one.
25:17The boys.
25:19He is not scared of any planet in the universe.
25:23Except for one.
25:26Do-do-land!
25:28Dun-dun!
25:33Okay.
25:34I saw a few smiles here and there.
25:37But what did people think of the adventure that Astro went on?
25:40She said, it isn't that funny.
25:42Oh, okay.
25:43Did you not find it very funny?
25:46No.
25:47Do you want to hear it one more time?
25:49No.
25:50No.
25:51OK, that's OK.
25:54This is meant to be a fun adventure book, and no kids laughed.
25:58So we're going to struggle selling this as a fun, adventurous book
26:01if the consumers of the book aren't enjoying it.
26:04We should have been funnier, really, shouldn't we, for a funny book?
26:06And there's no pictures on there.
26:09Yes.
26:12Down the hall...
26:13Shall we unveil it? Shall we unveil it?
26:15Ta-da!
26:16Wow!
26:18Isn't he so cute?
26:20Yeah, he looks cool.
26:22Zabori's team come face-to-face with five-year-olds.
26:27Bang! Bang! Bang!
26:29Zabori fell over his laces. His face went bright red.
26:33But...
26:34It will be just fine.
26:38Hands up if we love the book.
26:39Was it interesting? Yeah.
26:41Super fun book? Super fun? Yes.
26:43Did you understand the bit about the stripes?
26:45So we had Zabori with no stripes,
26:48and then Zabori with stripes at the end.
26:52No. Oh. OK.
26:544 p.m.
26:58Hello!
27:00Ahead of the pitches...
27:02They didn't understand, like, why has the Zebra acquired more stripes?
27:06They had just no idea.
27:07For both teams...
27:09We had no real laughs in the room,
27:12and there was not really a lot of engagement on the faces.
27:14It was a chance to check it.
27:17You know the two blank pages?
27:19I don't want to know about that one.
27:20No, no, no. I do. I want to know the problem.
27:21Yeah, we need to.
27:22I don't even want to think about the negatives.
27:23The whole point of the stream of feedback is to get the negatives
27:26so we can work on the negatives and use it as positive.
27:27So, lads, come on. We don't have enough time.
27:29I am going to make a conscious decision to say,
27:31let's just forget about the negatives.
27:32We are trying to sell this book.
27:33I think you split it to a vote, man.
27:35I don't even want to take this one to a vote.
27:395pm.
27:42Arriving some of Britain's biggest booksellers.
27:46All with the potential to buy stories in bulk.
27:50Ready to launch...
27:52This is a horror movie or something.
27:53...Marcus's Boys.
27:57Welcome, everyone.
27:58We are here to present to you Astro and the Three Aliens.
28:02Ladies and gentlemen,
28:04please keep arms and legs inside of the spacecraft
28:08as we get ready to blast off out of this world.
28:11Ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to ask you to count down with me.
28:15Five...
28:16Four...
28:17Three...
28:19Two...
28:20One...
28:21We have take-off!
28:23Good.
28:25He's absolutely so energetic.
28:28Astro needs a poo.
28:31He is not scared of any planet.
28:34Except for one.
28:36Doo-doo-land!
28:37Dun-dun!
28:38Dun-dun!
28:40Oh, look.
28:42Them two are a bit frowning.
28:43Please, Roo.
28:44Can I do a poo in your loo?
28:47But...
28:48Oh, no!
28:49This loo is too big!
28:52Across town...
28:53..across town...
28:58..trotting in with her tribe, mum of five, Andrea.
29:03WHISTLE BLOWS
29:04Welcome.
29:08Educational books are quite a big thing.
29:11Children from birth, it's really good to read to children, read books.
29:19It's very educational.
29:21And I think it's a story about a boy who's a zebra on his first day at school.
29:30And he's got worries.
29:31And we're sort of saying, that is fine.
29:33It was Zabori's first day at school.
29:39He was feeling worried.
29:41Bang!
29:42Bang!
29:42Bang!
29:43Zabori fell over his laces.
29:45His face went bright red.
29:47But it will be just fine.
29:52Zabori looked out of the window as the bell rang.
29:55Ring!
29:55Ring!
29:56Guess who he saw?
29:58His mum!
29:59It was all just fine.
30:06Pitch is over.
30:07Hello.
30:08Nice to meet you.
30:09Teams have one hour to secure sales.
30:11What do you think about Astro?
30:13Other than the word poo, where's the funny in that book?
30:16Because we can't find it.
30:18Aiming to seal a deal.
30:20Took a look at foils, they do not look happy.
30:22Connor, I need you to go in and sweeten them up.
30:24With one of Britain's biggest bookshops.
30:26Astro and the Three Aliens, when we came up with the concept,
30:28it was really meant to be engaging.
30:31Connor.
30:33I couldn't find something in it where I was like,
30:36this is the main purpose and this is what makes this book individual.
30:39With the audiobook, with the caricature,
30:41it's really about bringing the words on the page to life.
30:44I mean, before we go into that, I was going to say,
30:47maybe, could we perhaps consider maybe a smaller amount of units
30:51just to see how things go?
30:52My question is, what would make them think
30:54this is the funniest thing on the shelves that they can buy?
30:56I think that's where Astro really comes into it.
30:59I mean, I mean,
31:00just to obviously go back to my point,
31:03even if we can trial just a few units,
31:05I think we would go with 10.
31:07With 10 units.
31:08I'm quite frustrated.
31:12Marcus trusted me with this negotiation,
31:14but trusted himself more to close it,
31:16but asking them initially for a low number,
31:18I'm lost for words.
31:20I was building the rapport, which takes time.
31:22We don't have time to build that rapport.
31:24We need to get straight to the point.
31:26I do think there is something in letting the person who's pitching pitch.
31:29On the other team...
31:32We really like it.
31:33We think the character of Zabori is just great.
31:36While Pasha pins down a deal...
31:39The most we would take initially of something like this would be about 500.
31:41Thank you so much.
31:42Thank you so much.
31:44Trying to steer a major sale...
31:46We put a load of passion into this,
31:48because we all can resonate one way or another,
31:50especially if we've got children.
31:51Lorry driver Levi.
31:52Talking about the units of the item.
31:56So our initial order would be to order 50 copies.
32:00Could we push 200 units on the first one and then go from there?
32:06Can we go ahead with that one?
32:09No.
32:09No?
32:10With you, you'll be supporting us a lot.
32:15If we could just push to 100, we would really appreciate that.
32:18Just the support to our book, if possible, please.
32:22We'll go to 75.
32:24Oh, so we'll shake on that then.
32:25Thank you for your time.
32:26Thank you very much.
32:31I would love to know your thoughts and feedback, Victoria and Melissa.
32:34Can you explain this?
32:36While Connor tries to fill in the blanks...
32:39Yes, so children would be able to draw and bring to life Astro on his adventures.
32:43It honestly just looks like you've forgotten to fill the page.
32:47In talks with high street giant Waterstones...
32:50It's a little confused.
32:51When you read it, we didn't know if it was supposed to be funny.
32:55Tan Man.
32:57Do you think it's something we may be able to try in one or two stores?
33:01How many?
33:02Like we could do like 50 to 60,000.
33:0450 to 60,000.
33:05No, could we potentially try a smaller volume?
33:08Try 10 copies.
33:09Could we perhaps try 1,000 copies?
33:11No, we're not going to take 1,000 copies.
33:12How many would you feel comfortable taking?
33:14I just said we could take 10.
33:15Just, I need to know, where did that figure just come out from?
33:20I had to because we needed to finish and move on to a new retailer.
33:22I know, but what was the time we needed to speak to other retailers?
33:24By the time you said 60,000, you scared her off.
33:30On the other team...
33:31You are actually the first online retailers that we are so interested in getting Zabori's
33:37story into.
33:38While Karishma faces client feedback...
33:40I really like the stripes.
33:42I mean, it was such a good idea, but it kind of didn't go anywhere.
33:46Talking up a deal with children's retailer Natural Baby Shower...
33:50What did you honestly think about our story?
33:53Vanessa...
33:54Well, we love Zabori.
33:56We thought it was very creative, very imaginative, and we can see that it will work for the
34:01back-to-school story for us.
34:02That's a big market for us.
34:03Oh, wicked.
34:04So it leans into that well.
34:05What's your usual selling units?
34:07Like, what do you normally do?
34:08For something like this, we'd probably be looking about 1,200 units initially.
34:1630 minutes to go.
34:18What did you think of the book?
34:19Honest opinions.
34:20While Rothner hears some hard truths...
34:23And I'm quite concerned by the bang, bang, bang.
34:26It almost feels like he's been shot.
34:29For the boys...
34:30You saw the pitch?
34:31Yeah.
34:32Loved it?
34:32Loved the pitch.
34:33Fantastic.
34:34Aiming to complete...
34:36I thought the pitch was maybe better than the book itself.
34:39OK, but we all come as one, so that's fine.
34:41Essex estate agent, Kieran.
34:44Well, I think the thing is, the book feels a bit unfinished.
34:47OK, in terms of...
34:49I mean, there's a blank page in it.
34:50Yes, so that's for the children to open their mind,
34:52and illustrate their own map of that galaxy.
34:55I don't think that's immediately obvious.
34:57Yeah.
34:57Ah.
34:57The subject matter's great.
34:59Brilliant.
35:00What 46-year-old doesn't love poo and space.
35:02In terms of the colouring, I really feel like it pops.
35:06It is good, yeah.
35:07Yeah.
35:07So how many would you like?
35:09I think we would put a maximum order in for 50.
35:13100?
35:1450.
35:14Could we shake on 70?
35:16I think 60, and we'll shake on...
35:1865, meet in the middle.
35:1960.
35:2063.
35:21Done.
35:21OK, 63.
35:25You've actually done really, really well there.
35:26I love the energy.
35:27I mean, I just like to say, guys, I do sales for a living,
35:31and there, I hope you've just seen, that is what I do.
35:34It's almost like Marcus forgot that in this whole entire process.
35:37I don't design books.
35:38Right, guys, we need another deal.
35:39Let's go.
35:40Let's go.
35:40Five minutes to go.
35:44The message wasn't entirely clear.
35:46You can see him sort of gaining his stripes,
35:48but it's not in the narrative.
35:50Right, OK.
35:51For both teams, toilet humour is a huge thing.
35:54Poo as a word is funny, but that can't be your entire thing.
35:58A final push for deals.
36:01Hello, can you shake on it?
36:02Shake on it.
36:03I made it one.
36:03Fantastic.
36:04Thank you so much.
36:04Thank you so much.
36:05Can we get to six?
36:06Thank you so much.
36:07Thank you so much.
36:08Thank you so much.
36:10We were wondering if we could get to 330.
36:13Fine.
36:14Yes, thank you, sir.
36:186 p.m.
36:19We honestly tried our best.
36:21That's all we could say,
36:22and I'm sure everyone here has done the same.
36:24Yeah.
36:25Tonight, sales will be counted.
36:28Obviously, it's been tough.
36:28It's not been easy, but we've done it.
36:31And our star man over here.
36:32And some big numbers as well.
36:34Let's go.
36:34Head up, head up.
36:35Amazing.
36:35Good, guys.
36:37Tomorrow in the boardroom,
36:38the final chapter.
36:49Game day.
36:50How are you feeling?
36:51Yeah, not great after yesterday's performance,
36:53I'm going to be honest with you.
36:54There were a few people in our team
36:56pretending they were the project manager,
36:58making decisions.
37:00And who do you think that was?
37:01If we do lose the task,
37:08I will tactically bring in the right people
37:10in order to save myself.
37:12I didn't sleep very well last night.
37:15I'm just crossing my fingers
37:17and praying that the other boys
37:18have smashed it out of the park.
37:21Me being PM,
37:22it is putting pressure on me
37:23going into the boardroom,
37:25but I'm definitely not going down
37:26without a fight.
37:30You can go through to the boardroom now.
37:31Right.
37:50Unfortunately, Levi's sick today,
37:54so he can't be in the boardroom.
37:55So this task was all about
37:59making a kid's storybook
38:02and audio book.
38:04So we'll start with the boys.
38:06Now, Marcus,
38:08you put yourself forward
38:10as the project manager.
38:12Is that right?
38:13Yeah, I've got a son.
38:14He's four years old now.
38:16I thought as though also
38:17you were really disappointed,
38:18rightfully so,
38:19in the last task.
38:20And I thought as though
38:20I'll put myself forward
38:21to actually showcase
38:22what a proper project manager should be.
38:24Yeah.
38:25So tell me,
38:26what's the story?
38:27So we left our brainstorm
38:29having a character in space
38:31who's on a spaceship
38:32who needs to do a poo
38:32and a twist on a modern fairy tale,
38:35which we agreed was
38:36Goldilocks and the three bears.
38:38Goldie plops.
38:41Goldie poops.
38:42You didn't think of that one,
38:43did you?
38:44Now, did you design this?
38:46We, the design team,
38:48designed the character.
38:48This is Astro.
38:50So after the initial meeting
38:52in the morning,
38:53we had no brief in terms of
38:55what the team wanted it to look like.
38:57All we had was Astro the astronaut.
38:59I think it was a brilliant job.
39:00Yeah, we really liked the figure.
39:02Yeah.
39:02Right.
39:03Stick it on there.
39:08Astro needs a poo.
39:11Good.
39:12Checks his map for where he's close
39:14and all he sees is doo-doo land.
39:18Dun-dun.
39:21Right.
39:22Close encounters of the turd kind.
39:24Yeah.
39:25Now, what did the children have to say?
39:28None of them, when listening to it,
39:30actually laughed out loud.
39:31I think what they found that was an issue
39:32was a storyline.
39:33They didn't find it, you know,
39:35that funny.
39:36And then we got
39:37a couple of blank pages.
39:39What went wrong there?
39:40The problem was bad management.
39:42What you should have done
39:43was go back through it.
39:44Lord Trigger,
39:44we knew we couldn't polish a turd,
39:46but at the same time,
39:47we knew this was the actual book
39:49that we had in front of us.
39:50We had to make the best
39:51out of a bad situation
39:52and pitch it to the best of our ability.
39:54The retailers said
39:55it was quite a strong pitch,
39:57but they say the product let it down.
40:00Wasn't funny or original.
40:03Right.
40:04Okay then.
40:05All right.
40:05Well, I've got the picture
40:06of what went on there.
40:07Let's talk to the ladies now.
40:10Now, Andrea,
40:11you put yourself forward
40:12as the project manager.
40:13I think you've got five kids, right?
40:15That's right.
40:16And also something to do
40:17with a school somewhere?
40:19A school governor.
40:20School governor.
40:21And did I hear you say
40:22you'd written a book?
40:23The school had written a book,
40:24yeah, for children.
40:25Yeah.
40:26I thought she wrote the book too.
40:27You said you wrote the book.
40:27You said you wrote the book.
40:29And then it's in the school
40:30we wrote a book.
40:32Okay.
40:33So you come up with this zebra.
40:36So we came up with Zabori
40:39being a funny-looking zebra.
40:41A zebra in witness protection,
40:43I think.
40:45We just wanted the kids
40:47to relate to him
40:48and we wanted to make him
40:49funny-looking and exciting.
40:51Yeah.
40:51Okay.
40:52And the story team,
40:55I hear there was a little bit
40:57of argy-bargy going on.
40:59What was all that about?
41:01It was just chaotic.
41:02It was difficult to manage
41:03and we just weren't
41:05getting anywhere
41:06but it was just shouting
41:06over each other constantly.
41:09Sounds like it caused,
41:10this caused more
41:11strops than stripes,
41:13quite frankly.
41:14I think the biggest issue
41:15was you lost sight
41:16of your story.
41:17Yeah.
41:17How he gets his stripes.
41:18I mean, it just wasn't
41:19in the book at all.
41:20We're dead.
41:21Yeah.
41:21The imagery carried
41:22the book essentially.
41:23Yeah, absolutely.
41:24Shall I have a listen
41:25to this thing here?
41:28Yeah.
41:28Yeah.
41:28Let's have a listen.
41:32It was Zabori's
41:33first day at school.
41:35He was feeling worried
41:36but it will be just fine.
41:41Bang, bang, bang.
41:43Zabori fell over his laces.
41:45His face went bright red
41:47but it will be just fine.
41:52That's it.
41:53Magically,
41:53it looks like he's had a fight
41:55with marker pens.
41:56Yeah.
41:57Who did the pitch
41:58to the customers?
42:00So I started
42:01with the introduction.
42:02We'd not...
42:03You fluffed your lines.
42:04Yeah.
42:05Didn't you fluff your lines a bit?
42:06Possibly, yeah.
42:07I mean, the retailers,
42:08I think they found
42:09that the design
42:10and character
42:11is good
42:12but the story
42:13really let it down.
42:15Yeah.
42:16Right, well,
42:17I think it's time
42:17to see how we all got on.
42:19Tim,
42:20can you tell me
42:20how your team did
42:22with the retailers?
42:23Well,
42:23after their
42:24positive pitch
42:26to the retailers,
42:27the total orders
42:28they walked away
42:28from with five retailers
42:30committing to sales
42:32was 419 units.
42:36Right.
42:36Karen,
42:37exactly the same thing.
42:39Well,
42:39it's a shame
42:39you didn't get
42:40the story right
42:41because actually
42:42I think you would have
42:42got huge orders
42:43but you did well.
42:45Eight of the retailers,
42:46all of them,
42:47ordered from you
42:47and a lot more orders
42:49than the boys,
42:502,855.
42:54Well done.
42:56Very good.
42:57Off you go,
42:58back to the house
42:59and I'll see you
43:00on the next task.
43:06Well done, girls.
43:07Well, I think it's fair
43:19to say at the end
43:20of this,
43:21you won't all be living
43:22happily ever after.
43:23I suggest you go off now
43:27and chat amongst yourselves.
43:30I'll call you back in later
43:31and we'll get to the bottom
43:33of where all this thing
43:34went wrong, yeah?
43:36Off you go.
43:37Sure, sure.
43:37Sure, sure.
43:38Sure, sure.
43:44Guys, we won.
43:46Congratulations, guys.
43:47Yeah.
43:48A bit disappointing
43:49on the story side of things
43:50but a lot of it
43:51was down to like
43:52the design team
43:53end of the day
43:54so I feel like credit
43:55should be given
43:56to where it's due.
43:57I disagree.
43:58Credit is given to a team.
44:00All along I said
44:01it's teamwork,
44:02it's not individuals.
44:03There's no point
44:04in arguing
44:04when you're not
44:05even listening to me,
44:06so...
44:14Right, boys,
44:15I'm very disappointed.
44:16I feel as though
44:16the problem here
44:18lies with the design.
44:19That's me being brutally honest.
44:20But in the brief,
44:20you didn't tell us,
44:22for example, colours,
44:22you didn't tell us
44:23this is the role
44:24of the design team.
44:25Yeah, okay.
44:25But when do I design?
44:27I sell
44:27and I prove myself
44:29and I sell.
44:29How many did you sell to?
44:31Sales aren't my strong point.
44:32Designing books
44:32ain't my strong point.
44:34Do I design books?
44:35No.
44:37Ultimately,
44:37the failure of this task
44:38is down to Kieran.
44:39Providing us
44:40an unfinished product,
44:41the retailers
44:42were not happy about that
44:43and as sub-team leader,
44:44it's down to you.
44:45When it came to the design,
44:46you guys did not execute it
44:48how you should have done.
44:49Everything we did,
44:50no problems with it.
44:51No, but the story didn't flow.
44:52There was no laughter
44:53when they were reading it.
44:54No one was laughing.
44:55When you read the story,
44:56didn't you all laugh?
44:57Not really.
44:59I feel that Marcus
45:00is completely putting the blame
45:01onto the design team,
45:02which is not the case.
45:03Obviously,
45:04there are aspects
45:04that we are at fault.
45:06However,
45:06the main problem lies
45:07with the story.
45:08At the end of the day,
45:09I don't think
45:09the story was a problem.
45:11I do think it's to do
45:11with the design.
45:12The retailers said
45:13it was the story as well.
45:14So why aren't you
45:15listening to them?
45:16You didn't want to listen
45:17to the negative paper.
45:19Marcus will not listen
45:20to the experts.
45:20They did not like the story.
45:22Yes,
45:23the book was unfinished,
45:24but it's still sold.
45:25I can sell the unsellable.
45:26Yeah,
45:27so I've heard a lot.
45:28I now have a very important
45:29decision to make.
45:30Let the war begin.
45:31Yes,
45:41could you call
45:42the candidates in place?
45:54Marcus,
45:55you said
45:56you became the PM
45:57so you could show me
45:59what a proper PM looks like
46:01when I'm looking at you.
46:03It's a little sugar.
46:04I mean,
46:04I mean,
46:05I've also run my team
46:07effectively.
46:07I did give someone
46:08a second chance,
46:09being Kieran,
46:11to be able to redeem himself
46:12for the first task.
46:13Can I just add there,
46:14sorry,
46:15I didn't actually put myself
46:16forward as a sub-team leader.
46:17I'm in sales,
46:18I'm not a designer.
46:19You didn't turn down
46:19the role,
46:20did you?
46:20Yeah,
46:20exactly.
46:21No,
46:21I didn't turn down the role.
46:23To tell me you don't
46:23write books,
46:25as an estate agent,
46:26you write enough bullshit
46:28about the properties.
46:29Yeah.
46:29That you sell.
46:31That's for sure.
46:32We also had another candidate,
46:33Dan,
46:34that wanted it.
46:35But I feel as though
46:35Dan is not confident enough
46:36to lead a team just yet.
46:38That's me being very honest.
46:39I mean,
46:39Marcus,
46:40you didn't really make
46:40any decisions at all
46:42in this process.
46:42I did.
46:43I moved you from,
46:44I moved you from the design team
46:45to my team
46:45because you and Kieran
46:46were bickering.
46:47That's one decision I made.
46:49Do you want to care
46:49to bring up another
46:50so I can shut you down again?
46:51Marcus,
46:52you weren't involved
46:53in any negotiations,
46:55were you?
46:55I actually was.
46:56So there was a point
46:57in which
46:57Connor was
46:59putting himself forward
46:59to speak to foils,
47:01but I thought
47:02it was taking too long
47:02to get there.
47:03So I then jumped in
47:03and I said,
47:04look,
47:04what's the minimum amount
47:05of sales that you can give to us?
47:06If I may interject there,
47:08they had a lot of obstacles
47:09with the story
47:10and the book,
47:11the design.
47:11I was just about
47:12to introduce
47:13our consumer research
47:14before Marcus interjected
47:16and asked if we could make
47:17and asked if we could make
47:17an extremely small trial offer.
47:20Are you all missing
47:21the point here,
47:23right,
47:24that the book itself
47:26was rubbish,
47:29missing illustrations?
47:30Mm-hmm.
47:31Whose fault was that?
47:32Yes, it was sugar.
47:33That one,
47:33100% down to the design team.
47:35Yes,
47:35I take on my shoulders
47:37the book isn't complete.
47:38However,
47:39I can't take 100% of that
47:40because it's the story
47:41and the illustration
47:42that creates a book.
47:43Yeah,
47:44I would just say,
47:45I mean,
47:45Kieran,
47:45if you were just able
47:46to listen a little bit more
47:48and take your time
47:48and stop creating
47:49a chaotic environment,
47:50I do believe
47:51we could have probably
47:52got the book completed.
47:54I have to take responsibility
47:55for the missing illustration.
47:56Hmm.
47:58Priyash,
47:58you weren't involved
48:00in any negotiations.
48:01Oh, he was,
48:02Lord Sugar.
48:02He,
48:03we were talking to Waterstones,
48:05they didn't have any interest
48:05in the book.
48:06Tan then got them to 10
48:08and then before
48:09anyone could say anything.
48:10No, that's a lie.
48:11That is a lie.
48:12What happened was
48:12they said
48:13we would offer 10
48:14and then I suggested
48:14let's do 50,000 or 60,000
48:16and then they said.
48:18What?
48:18Yes, so that's where
48:19it started, Lord Sugar.
48:20We then,
48:21they then said
48:21we'll try all 10.
48:22I'm still speaking.
48:23Wait.
48:25IFS suggested
48:2750,000 to 60,000.
48:28Obviously they said.
48:29What, books?
48:30Yeah.
48:3050,000 to 60,000 books?
48:31Yes,
48:31which was probably
48:32not a good idea.
48:33Oh my goodness.
48:34But then I said
48:35what about 1,000?
48:35So we scared them off.
48:36They're 10 older.
48:38It was a consolation order.
48:40A pity order.
48:41It's most probably
48:42just because
48:43she drove them nuts.
48:45From what I can understand
48:46in many of their stores
48:47they've got a table
48:48with one leg
48:50shorter than the other three.
48:52They're using the books
48:53to keep them propped up.
48:55That's about it.
48:55That's about all
48:56they wanted them for.
48:58Now, Marcus,
49:00which two people
49:01are you bringing
49:02back into this boardroom?
49:03Um, Lord Sugar,
49:05I would like to bring back
49:06Kieran and Dan.
49:09Kieran and Dan.
49:11Yes, please.
49:12Right.
49:13Well,
49:14the rest of you
49:16go back to the house.
49:18Thank you, Lord Sugar.
49:19Thank you, Tim.
49:20Thank you, Lord Sugar.
49:21Thank you, Tim.
49:21Thank you, Lord Sugar.
49:21Thank you, Tim.
49:21Thank you, Lord Sugar.
49:21I mean, the joke is
49:46that the only person
49:48coming back from the story team
49:49is the project manager
49:51and the story was
49:52absolutely crap
49:53to use their own words.
49:56We're born.
49:58Um, sorry.
49:59Um, could you ask
50:00Lord Sugar if I could
50:01go back in, please?
50:02That's all right.
50:08Yes?
50:09Hello, Lord Sugar.
50:10Marcus would like to
50:11come back and speak to you.
50:12OK.
50:13Stand your man.
50:19What can I do for you?
50:21Um,
50:22I just had a quick
50:23contemplation.
50:24I would like to change
50:25my decision.
50:26Um,
50:27I actually do want to
50:28send Dan back home
50:29and bring in Priyash.
50:31But you already said
50:32you're going to bring
50:33Daniel in.
50:34You must have had
50:34a reason for that.
50:36So, um,
50:37initially I did want to
50:38bring Dan and Kieran
50:39back in.
50:39All right, I'll tell you
50:40what, get out there
50:41and all four of you
50:42be coming back in here.
50:44No problem.
50:44Thank you, Lord Sugar.
50:45Thank you, Tim.
50:46That's right.
50:46Well, that's very unusual.
50:52Very, very unusual.
50:53I mean, the guy
50:54puts himself forward
50:55as wants to show
50:56himself to me
50:57that he could be
50:58a good leader of people
50:59and yet he can't
51:00even make a decision.
51:02It's ridiculous.
51:04And, um,
51:05you know,
51:05I mean, this Priyash fellow,
51:06his intentions are well,
51:08but unfortunately
51:09it made no impact
51:10to this particular task.
51:11He also made no sales
51:12and from the sounds of it
51:14was interrupting
51:15other people
51:16trying to do the selling.
51:18Now, interesting,
51:19this Dan fellow,
51:20it's always,
51:21this is wrong,
51:21that's wrong.
51:22I think if you're
51:22going to do anything
51:23for Dan,
51:24if you're going to
51:24keep him in this process,
51:25you must encourage
51:26him to speak up.
51:27Yeah.
51:27Kieran,
51:28who was on the design team,
51:29he made the second most
51:30sales out of everybody.
51:32What he can't get away
51:33from, Alan,
51:34is that he was
51:35the sub-team leader
51:36and two pages
51:37have no illustrations.
51:38Yeah, yeah.
51:39You can't get away from it.
51:40Hmm.
51:41OK, could you send
51:46the four candidates
51:47in, please?
51:59Yeah, Marcus,
52:01tell me,
52:02why'd you change your mind?
52:04Um,
52:04so,
52:05upon contemplating,
52:06I felt as though
52:07not only should I bring in
52:08those individuals
52:09that didn't complete
52:10what they were supposed to do
52:11or what they were delegated,
52:13I thought I should also
52:14bring in those
52:14that didn't really
52:15pull their weight
52:16or do anything at all.
52:17What do you mean?
52:17I give an example.
52:18I don't feel as though
52:19you contributed
52:19majorly to this.
52:20Do you think
52:21you should be fired?
52:22Certainly not.
52:23I think I contribute to this.
52:24Why not?
52:25OK, not only do I,
52:26I'm a good negotiator,
52:27I'm a good seller.
52:28You're not a good seller,
52:29he didn't sell anything,
52:30but go on.
52:30But, like, for example,
52:31when we were creating
52:32Ashland National,
52:33I think even Dan was there,
52:34he could,
52:35he could see how creative
52:36I was given with ideas
52:37and flowing
52:38and we kept on getting
52:39shut down, shut down.
52:40Was he creative, Dan?
52:41I do believe he was.
52:42I think it's down
52:43to the leadership
52:43and the management style
52:44that both myself and Priya
52:45were on.
52:46Why don't you speak up?
52:47Are you just sitting back,
52:48waiting for people
52:49to fall on their swords?
52:51No, that's not correct.
52:52In this task,
52:53I adapted very quickly.
52:55It was a big wake-up call
52:56to myself
52:56and I've really
52:57put myself out there
52:58in this particular challenge.
52:59Where did you adapt
53:00then, quickly?
53:01I must say,
53:02Dan did speak
53:03and share his opinions.
53:04What about you, Kieran?
53:05I mean,
53:06you failed miserably last week.
53:08Yes.
53:09And you're the sub-team leader.
53:11I've done the best I could
53:12with my team.
53:13I don't think your actions
53:14are short enough.
53:15It's like on a high ego.
53:16So you treat people
53:17beneath you.
53:17Last week.
53:18Have you been a bit arrogant
53:20then towards people?
53:21I think so
53:22and I think Dan would agree.
53:23I think he has.
53:24Yeah, a few times.
53:25In what way?
53:26I mean,
53:26just not listening to people,
53:28dismissing ideas.
53:29Who do you think
53:30should be fired?
53:31I think Kieran and Marcus.
53:32I agree,
53:33Kieran and Marcus.
53:34But two of them?
53:35Because I feel,
53:36Marcus,
53:37there was no leadership.
53:37You didn't set us a brief.
53:39We didn't have
53:39no instruction
53:40of what you wanted
53:41in terms of character,
53:42but you knew
53:43that it was a five-year-old
53:43astronaut, right?
53:44But where do I...
53:45So you just wanted
53:46the design team
53:47to go with that?
53:47You didn't want to tell us
53:48what you wanted?
53:49It's a five-year-old astronaut.
53:51Work with them.
53:52Marcus,
53:53the story
53:54is the biggest issue.
53:56There was no point to it.
53:57Yes, Lord Sugar,
53:58I know the story
53:59is not good at all,
54:00but the fact
54:01that it was finished,
54:02I feel as though
54:03it meant that
54:03we have done it.
54:04We did a lot better.
54:05Can I just add,
54:06sorry,
54:07I've admitted
54:07I take full responsibility
54:09of the book.
54:10You're sat there
54:10still arguing
54:11your story's great.
54:12No,
54:13I've clearly said
54:14that the story
54:14was not a good story.
54:15So why is that
54:16from the story team?
54:16Again, hold on, Priyash.
54:17So where's the story team?
54:18Again, I am the one
54:19from the story team
54:20that's here.
54:20Okay, okay, listen,
54:22I think I've had enough
54:22for this.
54:23I'm going to make
54:23a decision now.
54:25So,
54:26here's my view.
54:28Kieran,
54:29you're a typical
54:29estate agent.
54:30You might be
54:33a good salesman,
54:34but, you know,
54:36you had failure
54:36last time,
54:38books you'd know
54:39nothing about at all.
54:41Dan,
54:42I think you're
54:43quite a clever person,
54:46but I do worry
54:47that you're waiting
54:48for people
54:48to fall on their sword.
54:50And Priyash,
54:51you can talk
54:52the hoeing legs
54:53off a donkey.
54:54Would you make me
54:55be quiet?
54:55I don't want to hear
54:56any more from you.
54:59I'll breathe it.
55:00Marcus,
55:01you claim
55:02they could show me
55:04what a proper PM
55:06looks like.
55:07Well, I've got to tell you,
55:08you ain't shown me nothing.
55:12But, Kieran,
55:14I think it is regretful
55:16that there's an attitude
55:18about you
55:19and whether you could be
55:21one of my business partners.
55:25But having said that,
55:27I'm going to conclude today
55:29that
55:31Marcus,
55:34you're fired.
55:35Thank you,
55:35Lordship.
55:48Now,
55:49you three
55:50have got to up
55:51your game.
55:52OK, go on,
55:53off you go.
55:54Thank you, Lordship.
55:54Tim.
55:55Thanks, Brady.
56:01I didn't expect
56:02to be fired.
56:03I put myself
56:03forward as PM.
56:05I thought it would
56:05be appreciated
56:06in the sense of,
56:07you know,
56:07I'm taking a risk.
56:08But it is where it is
56:10onwards and upwards
56:10for me.
56:13The boys are so cocky.
56:15What's all this big man
56:16energy,
56:16all this personality
56:17and then in a boardroom
56:18they write about poo?
56:19Is that it?
56:28Is that it?
56:29Is that it?
56:33Come sit,
56:33come sit.
56:34So Marcus basically
56:35asked me and Kieran
56:36to come back
56:37and kind of
56:38change the decision
56:39at the last minute.
56:40And my face
56:41just dropped.
56:42I think Marcus
56:43just spoke too much
56:44and the fact
56:45he changed his mind
56:46really annoyed him.
56:48Did he make the right
56:48decision?
56:49Did Lord Sugarfire
56:49the right person?
56:50I think ultimately
56:51Dan told him
56:52to do a double
56:53me and Marcus.
56:59Now,
57:0017 candidates remain.
57:02The search for Lord Sugar's
57:05next business partner
57:06continues.
