President Prabowo Subianto has requested PT Garuda Indonesia (Persero) Tbk to follow and adapt to global aviation technology developments. This instruction was not only given to Garuda Indonesia but also to other national airline companies.
It is hoped that this will drive the modernization and transformation of the national aviation industry, while strengthening Indonesia's position in the global aviation industry chain.
"Yes, we must follow global technological developments," said Garuda Indonesia's President Director, Glenny Kairupan, to the press at the Presidential Palace in Central Jakarta on Monday (2/2/2026).
This strategic step is also in line with efforts to strengthen national connectivity, improve the quality of air transportation services, and support Indonesia's economic and tourism growth.
Therefore, in this meeting, Prabowo also invited top executives from the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer to the Merdeka Palace. The meeting discussed the development of the global aviation industry, particularly regarding aircraft technology advancements and Indonesia's aviation ecosystem.
After the meeting, Glenny Kairupan explained that the discussion with President Prabowo took place in a relaxed yet substantive atmosphere, focusing on national and global aviation dynamics.
"We talked, chatted about aviation, you know. Aviation in Indonesia, about Garuda (Indonesia), about the super-advanced aircraft nowadays. The advanced technologies, how we must also be involved in these technological developments," explained Glenny.
However, aircraft purchase plans were not discussed in this meeting. According to him, the discussion is still at the coordination and exchange of views stage regarding world aviation technology developments.
"Purchase plans, not yet. We are just coordinating on technological matters," he said.
