00:00Super Bowl 18, how much has that Super Bowl changed since the time that you played in this game to what you're seeing now in all the hoopla, Super Bowl week, media week?
00:11Take us back a little bit when you were in this football game and how much it's changed today.
00:18Matt, it has changed so much.
00:20It's unbelievable.
00:22You know, back in those days, running backs are going to carry the ball 30 plus times a game, you know.
00:30And their quarterback is not going to be passing the ball as much as they do.
00:35I think that I actually think defensive players are bigger, faster, stronger, and I hope the guys don't get mad at me about this, and smarter.
00:50So, you know, it's really a lot of fun to watch.
00:53The quarterbacks are strong arm.
00:55They have the ability to put the ball in places where their guy has the best chance of catching it, where before it wasn't as much like that.
01:05So, I enjoy the game now.
01:06I enjoy watching it.
01:08I wish I was playing now because there'd be more passes.
01:12That means more interceptions.
01:13And it'd be a lot more fun to, you know, for all the defensive players.
01:20Do you agree now, Mike, that today's complex defensive coordinators, I mean, not that what you guys did in the past or what during my era, do you not think they're more complicated today?
01:32They're more, you know, tech thought process with analytics.
01:36I mean, it just seems to me today, the game is played more in space today.
01:41You've got to be really fast, and you've got to understand how to position tackle a lot more today because you and I played the game.
01:49It was in a phone booth.
01:50Now it's more played in space.
01:52Do you see that with today's NFL?
01:53Well, you know, now they have way more technology, and the technology is way smarter.
02:00There's different things they can do.
02:02They can, you know, before, you'd be in a room for an hour, and, man, you'd be bored running stuff back and forth, back and forth.
02:11But today, it's different.
02:14And they can look at more than one player, more than, you know, they can look at more than one part of the field instead of just being full field.
02:23And then just, you know, just the line play, they can see a lot more.
02:28And so I think that coaches are able to, if they're really smart, and I really believe all NFL coaches are smart, they can help the younger players play at a super high level.
02:41Where before, you know, they'd pick on the rookies because, you know, they're not learning a lot, you know.
02:49But today, they have an opportunity to see a lot more from all the great players in the league.
02:56And they can, they don't have to worry about studying.
03:00I mean, before, you'd had to go into the facility to study, or you had to bring film home to study.
03:07But now you just turn your computer on, you can, you can study like crazy.
03:11So you can single out what you want to know and get the answers.
