00:43Hello and welcome to From the South from the headquarters of Telesur English in Havana, Cuba. My name is Pablo Michalishev. We begin with the news. Stay with us.
00:56Delegations from Colombia and Ecuador met in Quito to discuss bilateral relations in the areas of security, both control, energy and trade.
01:10Colombia and Ecuador held a high-level meeting to address the recent bilateral crisis and seek solutions in security and trade.
01:16It should be noted that the meeting which was held behind closed doors was in response to the escalation of tensions following Ecuador's imposition of tariff on Colombian products.
01:27For its part, the Colombian delegation led by its foreign and defense ministers seeks to restore bi-national exchange and normalize relations in the border area.
01:37In Venezuela, the President of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodriguez, spoke with the families of those detained in Zone 7 of Boleita, Caracas.
01:52During the meeting in which he was accompanied by Congressman Jorge Arriaza and other parliamentarians, Rodriguez listened to the requests of the family members and committed to prioritizing cases involving health problems as well as to manage the relevant release processes.
02:09Rodriguez announced that the second discussion of the amnesty law will take place on Tuesday, February 10, at which time it will be finally approved.
02:19With firmness and sensitivity, he assured that once it is passed, everyone will be released, bringing relief and hope to hundreds of families.
02:27In this sense, Jorge Rodriguez met with the families of the detained persons and reaffirmed the parliament's commitment to trust, justice and national reconciliation.
02:42Through his social media accounts, the President of the National Assembly stated that forgiveness does not generate any kind of reservation.
02:49In these complex times that we are living in, we must be fared, ask for forgiveness and also for gifts.
02:56We continue with more news.
03:00Venezuela's acting President, Andrés Rodríguez, met Friday in Caracas with Spain's former Prime Minister, Jorge Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
03:09The meeting was reportedly held to exchange views on the progress of the government's efforts in favor of the national reconciliation and political dialogue.
03:20The program is part of the Bolivarian Diplomacy of Peace, a meta boosting fraternal relations, dialogue and solidarity with all political sectors in the country.
03:28The Spanish former Prime Minister also participated on Friday in a session of the program for democratic coexistence and peace, launched by the absent President on January 23rd.
03:39The project was conceived in a spirit of patriotism and anti-colonialism, a meta strengthening in stability, social harmony and political dialogue in the nation.
03:48And Mexico announced the sending of a new shipment of solidarity aid to Cuba while working on the reopening of oil shipments to Havana.
04:03President Claudia Scheinbund announced this Friday that a shipment of supplies will be sent to the largest of the Antilles in the coming days.
04:10A head of the state assured that diplomatic efforts are on the way to be able to resume oil shipments to Cuba without causing any impact on her country.
04:20Her statements come amid growing tensions with the United States after Washington threatened to impose tariffs on countries that supply crude oil to the Antille nation.
04:28We have spoken with the Cuban ambassador in Mexico, who has been helping us mainly through Lazaro, and with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs itself.
04:45We are planning to send this aid, if not over the weekend, then on Monday at the latest.
04:53And it is mainly food and some other supplies that they have asked us for.
05:03We have been working on this and, as you know, on all the diplomatic efforts to be able to rescind oil to Cuba.
05:10We go now to Colombia. A coal mine in the Department of Cundinamarca exploded due to a methane gas leak inside the mine, leaving seven miners buried and many injured.
05:25After approximately 24 hours of rescue war led by the National Mining Agency, the Civil Defense Corps, the Technical Investigation Corps and the National Police, four bodies were rescued and the search continued for three bodies located at least 170 meters deep.
05:43Captain Alvaro Farfan, the fire departmental delegate said that high levels of methane were detected in the mine and that two backholes were used to improve ventilation.
05:58The National Mining Agency stated that they are investigating the causes of the incident and will take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
06:07Moreover, in Colombia, rejection of US foreign policies was felt in the country's capital where social movements denounced actions that threatened regional peace.
06:24Social and human rights organizations protested in front of the US Embassy in Bogota.
06:28The protesters rejected the interferential and imperialist attack by the Donald Trump administration, which is evident in its participation in the Palestinian genocide through the massive sending of weapons, military funding and political support to the Israeli Sionist regime.
06:45In addition, the protests condemned all forms of foreign intervention that violated the sovereignty of peoples, highlighting the aggressive policy of the US administration as a threat to peace and the self-determination of nations.
06:58And now we have a show break coming up, but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English where you will find news in different formats, news updates on Marshmarts.
07:10We will be right back and stay with us.
07:11Welcome back.
07:12Welcome back.
07:13In Panama, exhumations have begun to identify the victims of the 1989 US invasion and here
07:28open wounds.
07:29In a historic event for memory and justice, Panama Throws Commission began exhuming the bodies of victims of the last US military intervention in Panama, which took place in December 1989.
07:42The invasion, called Operation Just Cause by the George Bush administration, left thousands of Panamanian civilians dead.
08:00This action seeks to clarify their crimes, identify the disappeared and bring truth to the families who for more than three decades have demanded justice for one of the most brutal and least recognized military aggressions of US imperialism in Latin America.
08:17Trinidad and Tobago's controversial zones of special operations bill known as Zozo has collapsed in the Senate.
08:30after failing to secure the required supermajority.
08:47The legislation was defeated last week following a tense and closely divided vote in the upper house.
08:54Senators, as a result of the division, 15 members voted for the bill, 14 members voted against the bill and there was one abstention.
09:08The bill has not been approved.
09:11In a written reaction shared online, opposition leader Penelope Beckles welcomed the outcome, describing the vote as a victory for democracy.
09:21In her Facebook post, she wrote,
09:24The collapse of the zones of special operations bill in the Senate tonight proves that democracy is alive and well in Trinidad and Tobago.
09:32No to Zozo, no to this wicked government. End quote.
09:37The bill would have given the Prime Minister broad powers to designate communities as security zones,
09:42allowing warrantless searches, 72-hour curfews and round-the-clock security cordons.
09:48Independent senators cited the government's refusal to accept amendments as a key reason for rejecting the bill.
09:55This language risks being seen as an excuse already that we're anticipating that we wouldn't wear these body cameras.
10:03And if we could see what is happening in Jamaica, then if we are serious, serious about passing the bill and addressing concerns about abuse,
10:12then we could address this now by making it mandatory for these body cameras to be worn in the implementation of Zozo's.
10:23Attorney General John Jeremy rejected the proposed amendments, arguing that existing parliamentary oversight was sufficient.
10:32The bill required a three-fifths majority or 19 votes in the 30-member Senate.
10:37Authorities are now seeking alternatives to address crime as the government's state of emergency,
10:42which officials say reduced murders by 42 percent, expired on Sunday.
10:49Crystal Hoyt, Talasur, Bridgetown, Barbados.
10:54We move on now to Cuba. Young South Americans concluded their exchange and volunteer award program in the country,
11:00wrapping in ties of solidarity in the face of external pressures facing the island.
11:04The 31st South American Solidarity Brigade concluded in Cuba after successfully completing its cultural exchange program.
11:12The closing event highlighted the impact of the voluntary work carried out by the participants in various areas of the local economy.
11:19The organizers emphasized the importance of building bridges of friendship to face political challenges
11:24and the blockade of North American imperialism against the nation.
11:33In China on Friday, as part of the diplomatic agenda, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Barrilla, acting as a special envoy for the Cuban party
11:41and the government, held a meeting with members of his state mission in this country.
11:46The Foreign Minister reported on the meeting with Cuban diplomatic members to review the various issues of current international affairs,
11:53focusing on the new pressures facing the largest of the Antilles.
11:58In this context, Rodríguez is currently on a tour of China to review bilateral relations and support in the face of the energy crisis affecting the island.
12:09Also, as part of political consolidation, Cuba European is support for the one-China principle
12:15and its willingness to continue developing bilateral friendship and cooperation ties.
12:26In this context, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Barrilla posted the following on his social network X.
12:32I exchanged views with members of the Cuban state mission in China.
12:35We assessed the current international situation and the one facing our country in light of the unjustified, illegal and criminal measures of economic suffocation imposed by the U.S. government against the Cuban people.
12:48The New Year transforms Vietnamese nurseries into galleries showcasing the cake hand techniques,
13:11a centuries-old art that shapes mandarins into impressive sculptures. Let's see.
13:16Artesanos del Caicán
13:21Caicán artisans transform fruit trees into sculptures in gardens in Venn Giang, Vietnam.
13:27These living decorations are part of the Tet rituals, the Vietnamese New Year, symbolizing prosperity and good fortune to welcome the arrival of spring.
13:37Some nurseries stood out with representations of horses up to 3 meters tall.
13:48Venn Giang is a town known as one of the largest ornamental plant centers in Vietnam. For its residents, fruit trees like mandarins are not mere objects they are part of a ritual, where living matter is shaped to attract good wishes.
14:05To create these sculptures, we began planting the old mandarin trees in pots at the end of last year. We took care of them and by the 8th lunar month, we started bending them and shaping them into horses. Once the desired shape was achieved, we placed them on a long base and sculpted the pot according to our vision, with the help of artisans skilled in design.
14:30The technique used by the artisans is Caicán, which is guided by four fundamental values, antiquity, valuing the exposed roots, uniqueness, creating original and creative shapes, beauty, giving the pieces visual harmony, and cultural expression, integrating the nation's spiritual and philosophical values.
14:55More than simple gardening, it is a multi-year effort of patience, where the artisan carefully guides each branch to ensure the tree produces ripe fruit, fresh shoots, and vibrant flowers, exactly in time for the lunar new year, a true expression of the world view and identity of the local people.
15:14This year is the year of the horse, so the gardeners have created beautiful bonsai shaped as the horse of success, and horses pulling gold ingots. I think these artisans are exceptional, as they have brought to life splendid works of art that reflect the rich traditional culture of our nation.
15:36The majestic horse figures mark the way to Te, a time when the trees symbolize abundance, their fruit foretells prosperity, and their growth represents the continuity of the nation's culture.
15:55And we have a second show break coming up. Before we invite you to join us for another episode of Overlap Conversations from Across the World, our special program together with China Academy, this time on our seventh episode addressing the U.S. 21st century imperialism.

16:28First of the break, don't go away.
16:47Welcome back.

18:50Russian Foreign Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that they are willing to discuss the Strategic Arms Treaty with the United States as long as their general position on key issues of bilateral interest is clarified.
19:03At the same time, Moscow emphasized that it intends to act responsibly and prudently after analyzing U.S. military policy and the overall strategic situation.
19:13Meanwhile, President Donald Trump proposed working on a new agreement on the use of strategic weapons and not extending the new START treaty with Russia.
19:22The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency, Nisa, announced the elimination of Ahmed Dupat Sidich, alias Adam Dere, who was responsible for the finances of the Al-Shabad terrorist group in Banady region.
19:41The Ali's leader was killed during a tactical operation in the Lower Shabela region after intelligence agents located his hiding place and an armed confrontation ensued.
19:56Sidich, who had been linked to the organization since 2008, was a key figure in the group's economic structure and was accused of systematic extortion and looting of public property in various areas of the country.
20:09In the sense, his death represents a significant advance in the Somali government's security strategy, which seeks to dismantle Al-Shabad's logistical networks to curb its recent attacks.
