00:00It is Friday, it's 5.52pm and it is the end of the first week with my new clients.
00:11Alistair and Margot Hartnell.
00:14They say that coming here is the last roll of the dice for them.
00:17They had been on the cusp of getting a divorce.
00:20Walk forward. Turn right. Turn right. Turn left.
00:24No, no, wait. No, sorry. That's my...
00:27For God's sake, Alistair!
00:29Love has been replaced by hostility.
00:32You're useless at this! That's enough!
00:34Sorry, darling.
00:35All trust has gone.
00:36For sake!
00:37Sorry. Sorry!
00:38It's okay. It's okay.
00:39Compounded by the fact that they seem unable to communicate in a meaningful and a reciprocal way.
00:46I feel unheard when I talk to you about how I'm feeling.
00:52Well, often when you do want to talk, I've got work on my mind and that's important too.
01:02So it's just a case of bad timing, that's all.
01:05Their marriage doesn't make sense to them anymore.
01:08Over the course of the coming weeks, I'd like to see if we can retrace the steps that led to this situation.
01:15See if we can work out how they got here.
01:17Next we have Luke and Stacey Warbur.
01:21I believe the fault lines don't run as deep with them.
01:24I'm grateful for how patient you are.
01:27And that you're here with me now, doing this.
01:30Because I know I'm not giving you what you need.
01:35That's so sweet, bro.
01:37On the surface, they have a loving marriage.
01:40But now can we try taking each other's hands, please?
01:45And maintaining that same eye contact.
01:48By their own admission, there are significant intimacy issues.
01:51Why can't you do this?
01:53Uh...
01:55I'm sorry.
01:57I'm sorry, sorry. Could I take five?
01:59It's okay.
02:00Of course.
02:01It's okay, Luke.
02:04Take your time.
02:05I mean...
02:07It's okay.
02:08It's all part of the process.
02:10It's Friday, it's the beginning of the weekend now.
02:13But Monday will be a big day.
02:15I have exciting plans.
02:17I think that there could be a real breakthrough.
02:23Hello.
02:24Darling.
02:26Wine's good.
02:29This looks nice, doesn't it?
02:30Yeah.
02:31Hi, everyone.
02:32Hi.
02:33I just wanted to say thank you very much for all your hard work
02:37and your commitment this week.
02:39You should be very proud of yourselves.
02:41There's more for us to do next week.
02:44But for now, enjoy your evening.
02:49Right, bon appetit.
02:51Cheers, everyone.
02:52Cheers.
02:55Cheers.
02:56Cheers.
02:57Wow.
02:58I just feel like every single thing I say is wrong.
03:10Every word, every utterance.
03:12I just feel like every single thing I say is wrong.
03:23Every word, every utterance.
03:26She pounces on it like a wild animal.
03:28Yeah, she certainly has a way with her words, your missus.
03:33I thought you'd never ask.
03:36It's only duty-free.
03:40That's Kira's stuff.
03:42Can't still be swimming, can she?
03:44That's Kira's stuff.
03:46That's Kira's stuff.
03:48That's Kira's stuff.
03:49That's Kira's stuff.
03:51That's Kira's stuff.
03:54That's Kira's stuff.
03:55That's Kira's stuff.
03:56That's Kira's stuff.
03:58That's Kira's stuff.
03:59That's Kira's stuff.
05:01Nah. Ah, crime scene.
05:07Inspector, um, I don't think you should wear that to the crime scene.
05:11Why not?
05:12Because it's got I Heart St Marie on the front of it.
05:18Hmm?
05:20Still haven't gotten your clothes back then.
05:22I must have left 50 messages for Solomon.
05:25This is the only shirt he didn't take.
05:26But I've got a mate from the Met to call in a favour,
05:29and I've got him to triangulate his phone for me.
05:31Yeah, that's a very good use of their resources.
05:34Hey, listen.
05:35He stole from me, and that is a crime.
05:40Inspector, I just think you should take the hat off.
05:43Yeah, all right.
05:53The victim is Kira Mayhew.
05:5542 years old, fully qualified clinical therapist.
05:59Ran a couple's retreat here.
06:01Cars of death looks like a drowning.
06:03Went for a swim at 7 o'clock yesterday evening,
06:06and at 9 o'clock,
06:07two fishermen came across a body about 100 metres out,
06:11directly opposite this spot.
06:12They watched over the body until the paramedics arrived.
06:16Who else was here last night?
06:18About six people in total.
06:20Four residents, two staff, the chef and the waitress.
06:22There's some bruising around her neck and shoulders.
06:25Looks like finger marks.
06:26Paramedics say they're recent.
06:28More likely from someone forcing her down under the water.
06:31They reckon it's murder.
06:33That's why they called us.
06:34So what?
06:35She swam out to sea,
06:37and somebody was with her and did this.
06:39Or maybe somebody was waiting for her out there on a boat.
06:41Inspector, what would you say if I told you
06:44I just found a bingo ball at the crime scene?
06:47I'd say, have you actually found a bingo ball at the crime scene?
06:51And I would say yes.
06:52Yes, I did find a bingo ball at the crime scene.
06:5613.
06:56Unlocking for some.
07:00I mean,
07:01it probably doesn't have much to do with Kira May,
07:04who's murdered, all right?
07:05We don't know yet.
07:06Let's bag it.
07:07Oh, okay.
07:08The bingo ball's officially evidenced now.
07:10Bag in the bingo ball.
07:12All right.
07:13Sergeant Fletcher, you talk to the staff.
07:16Officer Rose,
07:16see if there's any security cameras in the place.
07:19And DS Thomas,
07:20let's talk to the guests.
07:22Oh.
07:23I'll keep holding back.
07:24I'm sorry, did you just say murder?
07:30What, I thought it was an accident.
07:32Well, it wasn't.
07:33So we need to ask you where you all were between the hours of seven and nine last night.
07:37Are you saying we're suspects?
07:38When did you last see Kira Mayhew?
07:40Before dinner, we were having some aperitifs and she came and told us to have a nice night.
07:45Enjoy your evening.
07:48What time was that?
07:50Just before seven.
07:51She went for a swim and didn't see her again until she was...
07:55Was, um...
07:56Dead.
07:59Just say it.
08:02And was that a regular thing, her going for a swim at that time?
08:06Seemed to be, like, most evenings.
08:08Kira said it was her own therapy.
08:11Getting her to the sea after a long day, she found it restorative.
08:13And during the two hours between you seeing her and her body being found, you were...
08:20We were all together having dinner.
08:25Look, it wasn't one of us, okay?
08:28Nobody told us that we were going to be grilled like this.
08:30None of us have even been to bed.
08:32And I took a sleeping pill.
08:37Don't apologise for me, Alistair.
08:39You know I hate it when you do that.
08:40Sorry, dear.
08:41And don't call me dear, either.
08:43No, of course not.
08:44Sorry.
08:44For God.
08:46Okay.
08:48Well, if you think of anything, let us know.
08:54God help us.
09:01I spoke with the staff who can alibi each other for the time of the murder.
09:05They were preparing dinner between seven and nine.
09:09You think you're listening?
09:10I'm listening.
09:11Just checking, sir.
09:12What did they say about the victim?
09:14Well, that she was a decent boss.
09:16Always paid them on time.
09:17Was friendly.
09:18Any idea you'd want to harm her?
09:19No.
09:20They reckon she didn't really know anyone here.
09:22Never saw her go out much.
09:24Kept herself to herself.
09:25I checked her phone.
09:27All her texts and all her emails work related, apart from her mum back in England.
09:32How's she doing?
09:34Not great.
09:35We said we'd speak tomorrow when she might be a little bit calmer.
09:38I found this.
09:39The date and time is yesterday, 5.52 in the afternoon.
09:48That's just over an hour before her swim.
09:51It's the weekend now, but Monday will be a big day.
10:02I have exciting plans, and I think that there could be a real breakthrough.
10:06My instinct on this is that a lie is being told.
10:17If I can draw out the truth, the fallout would be truly devastating.
10:23And only a couple of hours later, she's been murdered.
10:29You're thinking one of the guests here did it?
10:32I'm thinking maybe one of them did.
10:36On one hand, all the four guests were having dinner together at the time of Kira Mayhew's murder.
10:43Oh, look.
10:44There are only two cameras in the resort.
10:46Just before 7 o'clock, Kira Mayhew goes for a swim.
10:49But on the other hand, all the guests leave the table once during the evening.
10:54So, in theory, it could have been any one of them.
10:57All right.
10:59Now, here.
11:00At 18 minutes past 7, Mr. Hartnell goes to his bedroom to get his glasses.
11:05And in here, 7.46, Stacey Wabba goes to the bathroom to check her makeup.
11:11And at 8.03, Mrs. Hartnell goes to grab her shawl.
11:15And after that, at 8.30, Luke Wabba goes to his bedroom to get a bottle of rum.
11:21So, each of them had opportunity to kill the victim during the dinner.
11:26Except, on the other hand, no one leaves the table for more than two to three minutes.
11:33And they all returned dry as a bone.
11:35Okay, so how did one of them manage to leave the dinner table, run down to the beach, get themselves somehow out to see 100 meters, drown Kira Mayhew,
11:45Then come all the way back, dry off, before returning to the table in less than a few minutes.
11:53Well, that's just not possible.
11:56All right, Sebastian, I'll read the victim's notebook.
12:11You make us start listening to these tapes.
12:13Focus on the ones recorded since the four suspects arrived.
12:16Yeah.
12:17Oh, these tapes are teeny tiny.
12:20Look, they make me look like a giant.
12:22Says the giants.
12:23So, printed the victim's schedule, the day of her murder.
12:28Trust exercises in the morning.
12:30Sounds fun.
12:32Lunch, followed by one-to-one sessions in the afternoon with Stacey Warbert, then Alistair Hartnell.
12:38Inspector, I came to check in on the murder case.
12:42The minister gets nervous when one of our resorts is hit by a crime.
12:47I'd like to reassure her it's in hand.
12:50Yes, sir.
12:52We're currently working on the basis that one of the four residents did it.
12:56We just need to work out which one it was, and how they did it.
13:00And why.
13:01So, pretty much everything.
13:06You look smart, sir.
13:09Going somewhere nice?
13:10Yacht Club.
13:12Lobster night.
13:12Lobster night, eh?
13:18That's why you're looking so snappy.
13:22You know, it's snappy.
13:24Like, claws.
13:26No, no, no.
13:27Lobster claws.
13:27I get the joke, Inspector.
13:29I just didn't find it very funny.
13:35Enjoy your evenings?
13:36You too, sir.
13:37Snappy.
13:38Like claws, you know.
13:38No, I need to get this.
13:45Hello, mate.
13:48Excuse me, Commissioner.
13:52Anton Bousset.
13:55How long has it been since we last...
13:57Crossed paths?
13:59Or were you going to say crossed swords?
14:02I hadn't decided before you caught me off.
14:04How can I help you, Mr. Bousset?
14:08Anton, please.
14:10We're going to publish an article about you, Commissioner.
14:13And I want to give you the right to respond.
14:17Here is a draft copy of the piece.
14:22Let me know when you're ready to talk.
14:29Inspector.
14:30That was your contact at the Met, wasn't it?
14:32You know where Solomon is?
14:34Palm Beach Hotel.
14:35I'm coming with you.
14:52What's it like?
14:54It's something I could easily live without.
14:57But once you have your own private jet,
14:59it's hard to give that up, you know?
15:00I love it, ladies.
15:05It's a fun night, right?
15:10Solomon.
15:12Merlin!
15:13Oh!
15:14I'm just seeing you here, man.
15:16I was just talking about you.
15:17Come, come, come, come, come, come.
15:19Meet Tashel and Tashana.
15:22This is my brother, would you believe?
15:24Merlin!
15:25We're half-brothers.
15:26Where's my stuff?
15:27You stole from me and I want my things back.
15:29I never stole anything.
15:31He gets confused sometimes.
15:33Had a bomb to his head a few years back.
15:34Solomon!
15:36I'm not joking around.
15:38You get me my things now,
15:39or I arrest you.
15:40It's your choice.
15:41It's okay, man.
15:44I understand.
15:45Let me just...
15:46No!
15:52Oh!
15:53Sir, are you okay?
15:55I'm fine!
15:56You're kidding!
15:57Oh!
15:57Oh!
15:58Oh!
15:59Oh!
15:59Oh!
16:00Oh!
16:00Oh!
16:01Oh!
16:02Oh!
16:02Oh!
16:03Oh!
16:04Oh!
16:04Oh!
16:05Oh!
16:05Oh!
16:06Oh!
16:06Oh!
16:07Oh!
16:07Oh!
16:08Oh!
16:08Oh!
16:09Oh!
16:09Oh!
16:10Oh!
16:10Oh!
16:11Oh!
16:11Oh!
16:12Oh!

16:18Oh!
16:18Oh!
16:18Oh!
16:19Oh!
16:20Oh!
16:20Oh!
16:21Oh!
16:22They can have assaulting the police officers to theft them breaking and entering!
16:25Mervyn!
16:25My brother, please don't do this to me!
16:28I'm sorry, alright?
16:29I just...
16:30I really needed the money.
16:33I'm in debt.
16:34And it's to the kind of person you don't much want to be in debt to.
16:38I'm sorry I let you down.
16:40I didn't know what else to do.
16:42I just need my stuff back, Sol.
16:4424 hours.
16:46Otherwise, I'm pressing charges.
16:48Do you understand?
16:50Appreciate it, man.
16:54I appreciate it, man.
17:10So, we dusted the bingo ball for prints, sir, like you requested,
17:15but got nothing from it.
17:17Oh, oh, well, worth a try, eh?
17:20Right, what else we got?
17:23We've done background on both couples.
17:26The Hartnells live in Islington in London.
17:29He's a barrister.
17:30She runs a luxury interior design business.
17:33Ah, very Islington.
17:35They did a brief spell of grief counselling
17:37with another therapist shortly after their daughter died.
17:40She was only 17.
17:43Seems their marriage has been struggling ever since.
17:46What about the Warbers?
17:48Also live in London.
17:50Luke works in finance, earns well,
17:53has been married to Stacey for three years.
17:55I've been reading the victim's notes on both couples.
17:58She records a lot after her sessions with them,
18:01especially on the dictaphone.
18:03But it's okay.
18:04Officer Rose is working on it.
18:06Yes.
18:07Yes, I am.
18:08I am totally on top of it.
18:10So don't you worry, Inspector.
18:12It seems the Warbers came out here
18:15because they've been having intimacy issues.
18:18It's been 18 months since they were last intimate with each other.
18:24When you say intimate, you mean intimate?
18:27Yes.
18:28Yes.
18:29And according to the notes, the issue is entirely on Luke's side.
18:33And in one of their last sessions, Miss Mayhew got him to admit why he was like this.
18:39Go on.
18:40Eighteen months ago, Luke was unfaithful.
18:43He had a one-night thing.
18:44Naughty, naughty boy.
18:46Mm-hmm.
18:47With him wife's sister.
18:49Cha-cha.
18:50Oh, sorry, what?
18:52Mm-hmm.
18:53And ever since, he's been wracked with guilt and shame.
18:55Why?
18:56He's been a busy, busy man.
18:58I mean, that explains why he can't do the business.
19:01Mm-hmm.
19:02Now, Kira told him that he needs to confront it.
19:07That he can't ignore it anymore.
19:10She was suggesting he tell Stacey.
19:12I think she knew their marriage couldn't move forward based on a betrayal like that.
19:17Is that what Kira Mayhew was referring to when she said...
19:22My instinct on this is that a lie is being told.
19:25So, Luke killed her to silence her?
19:29Stop the truth coming out?
19:35It's a cliche, isn't it?
19:37Saying something's the biggest mistake of your life.
19:39How did it happen?
19:41Oh, I don't know.
19:42I just...
19:44People flirt, you know?
19:46We're Stacey.
19:48We go for a night out and the blokes swarm in.
19:51I mean, you've seen her.
19:52She's gorgeous.
19:53She could have anyone if she wanted.
19:56And what happened with me and Chelle, her sister, it felt like I was...
20:01Like I was proving myself that I've still got it too, you know?
20:05But something in you must have wanted to come clean.
20:08Because you admitted it to Kira Mayhew.
20:10I thought she'd help.
20:11In what way?
20:12Obsolved me of the guilt if I opened up.
20:16I think that's a priest you're after.
20:18But all she said was that the marriage couldn't survive if it was built on a betrayal like that.
20:23She's normally so calm and measured, but with that, it really bothered her.
20:31Like she wasn't gonna let it go.
20:33And that's what worried you.
20:35Panicked you that she would tell Stacey herself.
20:38And then you'd lose your gorgeous wife completely.
20:40But you weren't gonna let that happen.
20:42And that is why you murdered Kira Mayhew.
20:44No.
20:45No.
20:46That's why I've come to you.
20:48Because I know what it looks like.
20:50But it wasn't me who killed her.
20:53I swear to you.
20:54All right.
21:00That's all for now.
21:15What a moron.
21:16Sir?
21:21Inspector.
21:22Post-mortem's in.
21:24Confirms what we thought.
21:26Water in the victim's lungs confirms she died due to drowning.
21:30Finger marks on her shoulders and neck suggest she was forced under the water.
21:36But how did the killer manage to do it?
21:38To leave from the dinner table here, run down to the beach, drown Kira, then get back to the dinner table, seemingly with not a spot of water on them.
21:48And in just a few minutes.
21:49And how does this figure into all of this?
21:52Why was it at our crime scene?
21:54You do know things get washed up on beaches all the time.
21:59Yeah.
22:00But a bingo ball?
22:03Officer Rose.
22:06Officer Rose.
22:09Officer Rose!
22:11Huh?
22:12Have you made any progress with the tapes yet?
22:14No progress as such.
22:15But I assure you, when I get something, you'll be the first to know.
22:20Inspector, I just spoke with the victim's mum, Sandra.
22:23Go on.
22:24To this day, her mum doesn't know why Kira left the UK.
22:27She didn't just want a change of scene?
22:29No.
22:30It was totally out of the blue.
22:32Overnight, Kira left her fiancé, announced that she was setting up a practice abroad, never even kept in touch with any of her friends.
22:40So it got me thinking, could Kira Mayhew's murder be connected to something that happened back in the UK?
22:45Hmm.
22:50Also, sir, Kira's mum spoke with her just before that swim, while she was heading down to the beach.
23:00And she's...
23:03Officer Rose, see what's going on out there, will you?
23:05Anyway, she said Kira seemed distracted. Distant, even. Her mum said it was like she wasn't even present.
23:19Inspector, some big headed brother in a sports car is asking for you.
23:23So, you got my stuff then?
23:36Not in a physical sense, no.
23:38What's that supposed to mean?
23:39Been a busy day. Bit of business here, bit of business there.
23:43Always somewhere I got to be in Salomon land.
23:47But, I know who has your thing, so...
23:53Jump in, and let's go get them.
24:03So this is where all my stuff is?
24:06Nice.
24:08It's Myrtle Chastanet's place.
24:09You ever come across her?
24:11No, funnily enough.
24:13She's the kind of person you go to if you have some things to sell it, maybe other people, maybe less...
24:17So she fences stolen goods?
24:19It's not for me to put a label on what...
24:21So that's a yes.
24:23We'll have you reunited with your stuff in no time.
24:26She's a very amenable woman.
24:29Who is it?
24:30Myrtle!
24:32It's Salomon Clark, remember me?
24:34Got my brother here with me.
24:36It was his stuff I sold you and...
24:39We were wondering if we could get it back.
24:41No! No, clear off!
24:43Myrtle! Honey!
24:45Don't you honey me, monster!
24:46She's a lot more vexed than I remember her being before.
24:48Myrtle!
24:50I'm gonna cut to the chase.
24:52You are currently in possession of items illegally taken from my home.
24:57Myrtle!
24:58Think she's thinking about it.
24:59What the?
25:00What's she do that for?
25:01What is this stuff?
25:02It sits in my eyes!
25:03It's burning!
25:04Hot sauce!
25:05Why'd she pull hot sauce over me?
25:06I don't know, man.
25:07But it got to admit.
25:09Kind of funny.
25:10No, no, no, no, no.
25:11Who's Tiberius?
25:12I woke up!
25:13I woke up!
25:14Oh, fuck!
25:16I woke up!
25:17What?
25:18What's she do that for?
25:19What is it stuff?
25:20It sits in my eyes!
25:21It's burning!
25:22Hot sauce!
25:23Why'd she pull hot sauce over me?
25:24I don't know, man.
25:25But it got to admit.
25:26Kind of funny.
25:28No!
25:29I told you what you're playing at!
25:30How much hot sauce has she got!
25:31Why's she got so much of it?
25:32I think it's some butt-legged tea she's got going on.
25:33And if there's no central packing,
25:34then I will set Tiberius on you.
25:35Who's Tiberius?
25:37I woke up!
25:38Liberia's
25:41Feels like we come at a bad time. Maybe we should come back another day

32:02Good morning, Isaac.
32:27Good morning.
32:28Haha.
32:28Good morning, Clarence.
32:30Good morning.
32:31Ah.
32:32How was the catch this morning?
32:34Well, so soon.
32:35So soon?
32:36Let me look.
32:37Let me look.
32:38Let me see.
32:39Okay, I want that one there.
32:40That big one.
32:41Understood.
32:45Good morning, Sash.
32:47Morning.
32:48Morning.
32:51Inspector.
32:52I'm here.
32:54We got your message.
33:01So, I was doing a bit of nosing around the old place and bingo.
33:08Literally.
33:09Oh, so that's where it came from.
33:11Yeah, apparently this place used to be a resort for the over 60s.
33:14So this must have been here since then.
33:16Okay.
33:17So how do you explain one of those bingo balls ending up on the same beach as our crime scene?
33:23Well, it didn't magic itself there, did it?
33:26Somebody must have taken it from this.
33:28So we're going to have to dust it for prints.
33:30I could do that for you, sir.
33:32Oh, nice one.
33:35How about you two?
33:36You got something?
33:37So, the tapes Cara Mayhew recorded over the last week, there was 10 hours of it.
33:43And throughout it all, when she talks about Alistair and Margot Hartnell, she doesn't once mention they lost a daughter.
33:50She was only 17.
33:52Seems their marriage has been struggling ever since.
33:57Which was kind of odd, right?
33:59So we did some digging.
34:01The daughter Charlotte was killed in a car accident.
34:04A hit and run.
34:05But the person who did it was never found.
34:08All that was known was that it was a female driver.
34:11Only, the hit and run happened outside the family home in Islington.
34:16Cara Mayhew's practice was just over a mile away.
34:21Also, it happened on the 1st of April, 2021.
34:24And Cara Mayhew, she moved over here six weeks later.
34:28Is it possible that that's what it was?
34:32Cara was behind a car accident.
34:36That's good work.
34:37A pair of you.
34:38Well done.
34:39You go and get that dusted and we're going to talk to the Hartnells.
34:42We didn't come here because we suspected Cara Mayhew was a woman who killed our daughter.
34:54We came in a last ditch attempt to save our marriage.
34:57Truly we did.
34:58Then why did you never mention to Miss Mayhew the fact that you lost your daughter?
35:02By your own admission, your relationship problem started five years ago.
35:07At the same time.
35:08We didn't talk about it with her.
35:12Because we never talk about it.
35:14It's easier if we don't.
35:16Margot tries, bless her.
35:18Or used to, you know, to try to get me to open up.
35:21But I just can't bear it.
35:27I don't want to lose her.
35:28I want to fix our marriage.
35:30But I can't if I have to churn all that up again.
35:36I'm just not strong enough.
35:38It's all right, my love.
35:50If the Hartnells didn't come here for revenge, then the question still remains.
35:54Why did Cara Mayhew leave London five years ago?
35:56What happened to make her suddenly up sticks and move to the other side of the world?
35:59Stacy, please give me a call when you get this.
36:02Just, just let me know you're okay.
36:09So, it's Stacy.
36:11I think she's had a meltdown.
36:13I haven't seen her since yesterday.
36:17I think she knew.
36:18I think Cara told her about me and her sister.
36:23Mishnah, everything all right?
36:26We'll look into it.
36:29I saw she was upset, crying.
36:31So, I went over.
36:32As soon as she said she was staying at the conference retreat, I called you.
36:34Couldn't get much from her.
36:35Except...
36:36She didn't want me to phone her husband.
36:37Yeah.
36:38Well, that's hardly surprising.
36:40Sir, um...
36:41Maybe I should take this one.
36:43Maybe I should take this one.
36:44Okay.
36:45Okay.
36:46Okay.
36:47Okay.
36:48Okay.
36:49Okay.
36:50Okay.
36:51Okay.
36:52Okay.
36:53Okay.
36:54Okay.
36:55Okay.
36:56Okay.
36:57Okay.
36:58Okay.
36:59Okay.
37:00Okay.
37:01Let's go.
37:02Sir, um, maybe I should take this one?
37:20Everyone knows, don't they?
37:22Only us.
37:23May I?
37:24Can you tell me when you found out, Mrs. Warbur?
37:36Thursday night.
37:38I went to get some air on the beach and Kira was there.
37:41She'd been drinking.
37:43I've not seen it like that.
37:45She'd always been so composed.
37:47She could hardly stand up, so I helped her back to her bungalow.
37:51She was sort of rambling.
37:54Talking about some guy who had betrayed her back in England
37:56before she moved here.
37:58I'd been cheating on her.
38:00I got her home and put her on the couch.
38:03And she looked me in the eyes and spoke to me.
38:06Stacey.
38:07Like it really mattered.
38:08Don't be like me.
38:10Don't, Stacey.
38:12There was just something in the way she'd said it.
38:15And I knew she'd had a one-to-one session with Luke that day
38:17and maybe whatever he'd said had, like, triggered her.
38:21It reminded her of her own betrayal.
38:23That's where she was drunk.
38:24So when she was asleep, I saw her notebook.
38:33I felt sick.
38:35Couldn't even process it.
38:37Couldn't even breathe.
38:39So I just pretended I didn't know.
38:42Stacey, you've been through a lot in the last couple of days.
38:49If you were in denial, if Kira was pressing you to confront what you'd found out...
38:56No.
38:57No, I didn't.
38:58I admit there was all this pent-up stuff inside me, but I didn't kill Kira.
39:04I swear.
39:05All right.
39:06Well, thank you for talking with me, Mr Shaw.
39:18What did the ex-boyfriend have to say for himself?
39:20The ex-fiancé.
39:21The affair he was having had been going on for three whole years behind Kira's back when
39:27she found out.
39:28Wow.
39:29That must have flawed her.
39:30I mean, her job is to provide relationship advice when all the time she was blind to
39:35a three-year-long deception.
39:36Explains why she suddenly opt and left for another country.
39:40And why Luke's betrayal triggered her so much.
39:43And why she had one or three over the limit.
39:45But it still doesn't explain why she was murdered three nights ago.
39:51Inspector, deus Thomas, I think we got something.
40:02Patrick Campbell, therapist, consultation fee, $150.
40:07He's based in Guadeloupe, specialises in hypnotherapy.
40:11Kira called him Friday afternoon, asking for advice.
40:15He offered to share their conversation as part of our investigation.
40:18On what?
40:21She said a client of hers, Margot Hartnell, had just opened up to her.
40:25And was struggling with the memory of an event of her recent past.
40:28Because she had completely blocked it out.
40:30Which, apparently, is not uncommon for people dealing with traumatic experiences.
40:34And according to Mr. Campbell, it's a pretty unorthodox approach for Kira to resort to hypnotherapy
40:39so early on in the process.
40:41But she was convinced it was necessary.
40:44So this forgotten memory, do we know what it's to do with?
40:48The night their daughter was killed in a hit and run five years ago.
40:52Mrs. Hartnell does not remember a thing about it.
40:56But ever since, she's been growing this feeling of guilt, you know?
41:01Like, maybe she might have done something bad that night.
41:05Wait, you don't mean...
41:08All that was known was that it was a female driver.
41:14Mrs. Hartnell wanted it all off the record.
41:17That's why there was nothing in her notes or recordings.
41:20Right, we need to talk to Mrs. Hartnell and that therapist.
41:25We need him here sharpish. Come on.
41:27Well, at first it was just guilt I felt.
41:32Our grief counsellor said it was normal as a parent to feel a sense of responsibility.
41:38Look, whatever I did five years ago, I want the truth to come out.
41:41If you think I killed Kira Mayhew because I wanted to stop that happening, you're wrong.
41:46She arranged for me to have hypnotherapy today.
41:49Well, that can still happen, Mrs. Hartnell.
41:52We've arranged for a hypnotherapist to speak with you, if you feel you're able.
41:58Inspector!
42:00If you wouldn't mind going with Sergeant Fletcher.
42:03Yeah.
42:09I guess all we can do now is wait.
42:16Ah, we're back to the bingo ball.
42:20Inspector!
42:21Sarge, just got back from dusting off the bingo ball machine for prints.
42:26Unfortunately, nothing.
42:34What's up with the inspector?
42:36Am I alright?
42:39Inspector!
42:40Everything alright, sir? You've got something?
42:45Sir, what are you doing?
42:47It's a little experiment.
42:51The bingo balls float.
42:52The bingo balls float.
42:53Yeah.
42:54Okay.
42:55So, why take it out of the bingo ball cage thingy and bring it to the sea?
43:06To the water's edge?
43:07Was it just to see if it floats?
43:08Or, maybe it's to see where it goes?
43:11In which case...
43:12So how did one of them manage to leave the dinner table, run down to the beach, somehow get themselves
43:16100 metres out to the 100 metres out to sea, drown Keira Mayhew?
43:17None of them left the table for more than two to three minutes at a time?
43:18And was that a real time?
43:20Was it just to see if it floats?
43:21Was it just to see if it floats?
43:24Or, maybe it's to see where it goes?
43:27In which case
43:34So how did one of them manage to leave the dinner table run down to the beach somehow get themselves a hundred meters out to sea
43:40Drown Kira Mayhew none of them left the table for more than two to three minutes at a time
43:45And was that a regular thing are going for a swim at that time?
43:51Most evenings she said Kira seemed distracted
43:57Of course that's why you were there you little beauty
44:04Okay I need to speak to a fisherman or an oceanographer ologist type of person
44:13Basically anyone who knows the currents in this bay
44:15T.S. Thomas I need a toxicology report done on Kira Mayhew
44:18Officer Rose I need you to collect some evidence from her office
44:22But you know who did it
44:24I do and I know how they managed to drown Kira Mayhew a hundred meters out to sea without even stepping a foot
44:31In the water come on
44:38For those wondering why Margot Hartnell isn't here with us it's because she's currently with a hypnotherapist
44:43Doing what she was always supposed to be doing today trying to recover a buried memory of what really happened five years ago
44:50The night her daughter died
44:53Why am I telling you this?
44:55Because Margot's therapy sessions were meant to be conducted by Kira Mayhew until somebody tried to stop the truth from coming out
45:01Until somebody tried to stop the truth from coming out
45:05By murdering her
45:07Mr. Hartnell
45:09Me? I did no such thing
45:14Oh but you did
45:16I know you did
45:17But how? I was at dinner when it happened
45:20On dry bloody land
45:21Yeah you were
45:22Which is why it was so clever of you
45:24But now that I've got a better understanding of what's gone on
45:27I believe you created a small window of opportunity in which to commit murder
45:32But not a hundred meters out at sea
45:35You drowned Kira Mayhew right outside your own bungalow
45:40Because from the very start of this case we've worked on the assumption that as Miss Mayhew's body was discovered
45:48One hundred meters out at sea in a straight line from where she swam
45:52That's where she was drowned
45:54But what if actually when Miss Mayhew went for her evening dip
45:59She preferred to swim along the shore rather than out from it
46:05That would mean she'd have to swim past your bungalow farther along the beach
46:11And that would give you opportunity to commit murder
46:16But when I told you I was at dinner when it happened
46:20Yeah we have security camera footage that shows you leaving the dinner table to get your glasses at 18 minutes past seven
46:27I was gone what a couple of minutes three minutes at the most
46:31You're not seriously suggesting I was able to physically drown a fit and healthy woman in that time without getting soaked in water
46:39Yeah sounds impossible right
46:42But I don't think Miss Mayhew was as fit and healthy as she might normally be
46:47I believe you sedated her
46:50We know that your wife uses sleeping pills
46:54None of us been to bed
46:56And I took a sleeping pill
46:57And we also know that you are the last person to have a one-to-one session with Miss Mayhew that day at 5pm
47:03One-to-one sessions in the afternoon with Stacey Warbur
47:07Then Alistair Hartnell
47:09And while there
47:10We believe you spiked her drink when she wasn't looking
47:20We didn't believe Kira was drugged because the finger marks on her neck suggested she was held down by force and drowned
47:26We're awaiting the toxicology report and results from the glass Kira drank from
47:30And I've no doubt we'll get confirmation that there were significant traces of sleeping pills in her system
47:37And so while Miss Mayhew was swimming she suddenly felt drowsy and swam ashore
47:45When you returned to your bungalow under the pretense of getting your glasses
47:51You ran down to the beach where Miss Mayhew was lying unconscious on the sand
47:56And then you did two things
47:58First you grabbed her neck and shoulders making sure to leave bruises so it would look like someone had strangled her and forced her under the water
48:09Before moving her into the sea for her to be carried away making sure that she was face down
48:16So they're still unconscious her lungs would fill with water
48:20It took less than a minute
48:23All you had to do now was hurry back to the dinner table and leave Kira to drown
48:29And let the sea do the rest of the work for you
48:34We checked with a local oceanologist at the university
48:38And the current in this bay moves in a north westerly direction
48:42Which means it would have carried Miss Mayhew's body diagonally
48:47Taking her from your bungalow here to where her body was discovered here
48:53And with her clothes being left on the beach here
48:56We'd all assume she swam in a straight line
49:00Now you had no idea where the currents would take Kira's body
49:04So you had to test it first didn't you?
49:07You went and found this
49:11And you threw it into the sea to observe which route it took
49:15Which was conveniently in a north westerly direction
49:18From your bungalow directly to where Kira began her nightly swim
49:22And that's when your plan finally came together
49:24Kira's body was found still at sea
49:27Not long after she drowned
49:29But this ball left overnight ended up washing up ashore
49:34And that was your undoing
49:36But why would he do this to her?
49:39Because he didn't want Kira to help his wife remember
49:43Well remember what?
49:45What he did
49:53I remember, Arister
49:55I remember all of it
49:58All the horror of it
50:02You rushing in and telling me someone had hurt our little girl
50:08And I remember the ambulance
50:12And the police
50:14And the shock and the pain
50:16And I remember you coming in
50:21And holding me in tears shaking
50:26Both of us heartbroken
50:30And I remember in that moment
50:36The smell of alcohol on your breath
50:41And I remember coming back inside
50:46And seeing you
50:51I checked the original case file, Mr Hartnell
51:00And the phone call to the police
51:02In which the hit-and-run driver was described as female
51:05Came from an anonymous caller
51:08That was you, wasn't it?
51:10Trying to direct suspicion away from yourself
51:14I would have lost everything
51:23Alistair Hartnell
51:33I'm arresting you on suspicion of the murder of Kira Mayhew
51:36You don't have to say anything
51:38But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned
51:41Something you later rely on in court
51:57I never want to see you ever again
52:00Well, well, well, good evening to you both
52:18Good evening
52:19Catherine, we spoke at Marianne Edwards' charity barbecue, I think
52:24I don't remember
52:25I certainly enjoyed our little chat
52:29Commissioner, can I get you a rub?
52:32That won't be necessary
52:33This won't take that long
52:35I think I'll have one, Catherine, if you wouldn't mind
52:38I appreciate you giving me an advance copy of the article
52:44Here is my written statement in response
52:48Saying
52:51I agree with every single word you've written
52:56Sorry?
52:59After receiving some sage advice from my good friend here
53:03As I say in my statement
53:06It hurt to think that the bond I had forged with this island had been broken
53:12But the circumstances were of my own making
53:15So I will be the one to fix it
53:19And how will you do that?
53:21As of tomorrow, I will be commencing an initiative with my team
53:25And with a little help from the island's mayor
53:28An initiative to strengthen our relationship with the community
53:34So, if you'll excuse me, I have work to do
53:38Good evening
53:39Well
53:43He just killed my article, didn't he?
53:47With one single shot
53:50I think
53:52He maybe just has
53:54Enjoy your evening
53:57You
53:59I think
54:04He definitely
54:07Behind you
54:08You
54:10I think
54:11You
54:13You
54:14I think
54:15You
54:16I think
54:17You
54:18You
54:19You
54:20I think
54:21You
54:22You
54:23I think
54:24You
54:25Sorry, mate. That's my hat.
54:53Hey, so?
54:55Look, I just got home and I saw you brought all my stuff back.
55:00Oh, you know, word of the old Salomon Clark magic.
55:04Yeah, well, I just wanted to say thank you.
55:07Did you have to give Myrtle her money back?
55:09I mean, you're not in debt still, are you?
55:11Ah, don't worry yourself.
55:12Anyway, man, got to get the boat back to Antigua.
55:16Got some business over there that needs attendant.
55:19Of course you have.
55:20I mean, there's always something going on in Salomonland, right?
55:23You said it.
55:28Um, look, what about us now?
55:34I mean, what do we do next?
55:38I don't know, man.
55:39Like you said, I am troubled.
55:41A detective doesn't need that in his life.
55:43Look, Sal, I didn't mean...
55:45Maybe I shouldn't have...
55:47Said that.
55:48No disrespect to you, bro, but...
55:51Ain't much good to me having a police officer around.
55:54Got a reputation to keep.
55:56Yeah, yeah, no, I...
55:58I totally understand.
56:01Look, man.
56:02We tried this, and...
56:06Maybe it just wasn't meant to be, you know?
56:08Look after yourself, brother.
56:10Yeah, you too.
56:11Look, Salomon, I...
56:13I...
56:43You do your lawn in your lawn, now.
56:46Hey, what you're doing is wrong, now.
56:49I saw you passing by...
56:54Hello, neighbor.
56:57Quiet morning.
56:58Was.
56:59Henry Ashby moved to St. Marie ten years ago.
57:02Henry was definitely mixed up in something murky.
57:04The victim's copy of this book was missing from his bookshelf.
57:07So, where is it?
57:08I need to reassure you that this island still matters to me.
57:14Why did a detective knock by the showing up?
57:16Why was your moped seen outside the victim's villa up in the hills?
57:20Did you ever catch them, Inspector?
57:22I'd sleep much better knowing you did.
57:24It wasn't me!
