00:14It's a hair and fashion show that's held in New York during New York Fashion Week.

00:33On this episode, I'll be reviewing the movie The Incredible Jessica James.
00:43I didn't realize my feelings weren't as valid as yours.
00:46Jessica, I really like you.
00:48Of course you do. Everybody does. I'm friggin' dope.

00:58So my hair is already pretty clean, so I'm just going to be styling my hair with this Wash & Go.

01:12Okay, so The Incredible Jessica James stars Jessica Williams from The Daily Show
01:18and from Two Dope Queens.
01:20It also stars Chris O'Dowd from Bridesmaids and Lakeith Stanfield from Get Out.
01:26And it's a story that you've heard before and you've seen before
01:30because it's, you know, nothing unique there.
01:33It's about a girl who went through a breakup recently
01:36and she's trying to, like, get back on her feet
01:38and she's a playwright, she's an artist
01:39and she's been going on dates.
01:41She meets a guy.
01:42He also went through a really tough breakup.
01:44The guy is Chris O'Dowd.
01:46They like each other.
01:47A love story forms.
01:48That's pretty much the entire movie.
01:50The rest of it is Jessica Williams adding to the character.
01:54Unlike other rom-coms, Jessica's sort of goofy.
01:58The first, like, couple minutes of the movie, she's, like, dancing around.
02:02There's, like, this whole dance scene that I don't know what's going on in the dance.
02:06It's just, she's dancing for a smooth three minutes in the intro of the movie.
02:11And I'm just, like, okay, what is this about?
02:15Whatever.
02:15I'm going to give it a chance because I like her.
02:18And I think the movie's great.
02:19I just think it's about nothing.
02:21I really enjoyed it.
02:22I just can't put into words why.
02:24I think it was because Jessica Williams and Lakeith Stanfield.
02:27The storyline wasn't anything that I hadn't seen before.
02:30I hadn't seen on Hallmark.
02:32It's a little better than Hallmark because the characters are hipper.
02:35But it's the same old rom-com, you know, breakup, meets a guy, likes the new guy better than the old guy, moves on with your life kind of thing.
02:43I didn't laugh a whole lot in this movie.
02:46I wasn't, like, dying from laughter.
02:49I don't know.
02:49She's a comedian.
02:50I expected a little more.
02:51I had a lot of high hopes because of the actors.
02:54And the actors are great.
02:55I love Chris O'Dowd.
02:56I thought he was so cute and adorable.
02:58He has this adorable little puggy face that makes you, like, want to just, like, squeeze his cheeks or whatever.
03:04And, you know, he was kind of the same character that he was in Bridesmaids.
03:09You know, he had this sort of, like, dopey adorableness to him.
03:12So, I guess if you're coming to this thinking it's going to be a refreshing rom-com, I don't know how refreshing it was.
03:19I mean, I watched it.
03:20I liked it.
03:21I would probably watch it again if, like, somebody was like, hey, do you want to watch this movie?
03:24I wouldn't.
03:25I would watch it again if, like, that friend hadn't seen the movie.
03:31And I had seen the movie, but, you know, I had time and I wasn't watching anything else.
03:35And they really convinced me that they wanted me to see it.
03:37I would be like, cool, I'll watch it again for you and try not to ruin it.
03:40But, like, it's kind of one of those movies where, you know how you watch Hallmark movies?
03:44And it's, like, Hallmark Christmas specials where it's, like, a love story and you already know how it's going to end, like, two seconds into the beginning.
03:50That's kind of how this was.
03:52Acting-wise.
03:52You have these names, these well-known names.
03:55Like, people know who Jessica Williams is.
03:57People know who Lakeith Stanfield is.
03:58And Chris O'Dowd.
03:59Like, you know who these people are.
04:01And so you kind of expected there to be, like, great acting.
04:04And the acting was, like, all right.
04:06Again, like, she threw me off balance.
04:08I don't know.
04:08Sometimes she just wasn't convincing.
04:10Like, she seemed like she was kind of bored being who she was.
04:13I was, like, you great at this character?
04:15Lakeith Stanfield didn't have facial expressions.
04:18So when he would talk to her, he'd be, like, oh, hey, I missed you.
04:22It's nice to see you.
04:24You look like you're doing so well.
04:26I'm, like, are you just reading from the page that they mean to put this in?
04:30I'm going to put some of this hair milk in.
04:33Y'all, I'm just layering products.
04:35I don't even know.
04:38Now I'm going to put this gel in.
04:40This is one of my favorite gels.
04:42At first, I wasn't sure about it.
04:44But when it dries, girl.
04:46Yes.
04:46The show was good, but it was about nothing.
04:48And it also felt too long to be what it was.
04:51Like, I felt like y'all could have gave me this entire thing in, like, half the time.
04:56It could have been a short story instead of, like, a feature film.
05:02I'm going to go dry my hair, and I'll be back with my rating.
05:07Okay, so I'm going to give this movie a 3 out of 5 because I love the actors,
05:12even though I don't really feel like they showed up the entire time.
05:16And I thought the movie was, like, sort of chill.
05:20It wasn't forced upon me.
05:22It didn't give me stress like Game of Thrones.
05:23And so it was, like, an easy Saturday, you know, evening movie to watch
05:27with your friends and not feel pressured.
05:29Why are you laughing?
05:31It was a great movie.
05:33It wasn't a great movie.
05:34It was an okay movie.
05:36It was one of those movies where you're like,
05:38I'm scrolling through Netflix for so long.
05:40I might as well watch this one.
