00:00a multi-million dollar view it's hoped can be shared with the world a luxury resort flagged
00:08half a decade ago by then premier mark mcgowan to kick-start the economy during the covert pandemic
00:14just now given the green light by the environment minister with saracen properties one step closer
00:19to a build some are welcoming the approval it'll provide workforce in the in the building trade for
00:27for a year or two and also for follow-up for permanent and casual employment for locals as
00:34well as tourists there are strict conditions in place to protect the environment and monitors will
00:39be brought in during construction to keep an eye on critically endangered western ringtail possums
00:45but with only one road in and out of the coastal community it's bushfires that worry critics the
00:50most i was here in 2011 when 35 houses were burned and it was just pure luck no one died
00:57the population has doubled since then and the number of visitors has probably tripled so we
01:02already have a massive problem here if there's a rapidly moving fire i just don't know how the
01:08authorities are going to cope with the scale and size of this proposed development the proposed resort
01:13still needs to be signed off by the wa planning commission and that's when issues like bushfire
01:18risk will be looked at in more detail the local council says if the project goes ahead there needs
01:23to be significant money spent on roads and other infrastructure to cope with the influx of tourists
01:29for example the access road currently as we know there's one road in and out of the site
01:35we've already experienced serious bushfire in this area of our community so we need certainty
01:41that the state government's going to fund the infrastructure that's required for this development
01:47there are many existing developments where there are only one road in and because of environmental
01:53issues they are not building a second road residents unsure of the road ahead
