00:00After coming under fire from the opposition
00:06Spin. Spin. It is all spin.
00:10The Greens adding some fuels, saying they'll consider teaming up with the Liberals to form a select inquiry to investigate the project.
00:18This one's become a really acute project, one that I think has become symbolic of this government's disregard for community and disregard for green spaces.
00:26The government confirming the racetrack is going ahead but keen to switch focus to plans for a 20,000 seat music amphitheatre and cycling circuit.
00:36Labelling the project an entertainment and sports precinct as it opens up community consultation.
00:42There's been backlash.
00:44Around here I don't know anybody, not one person, who wants that race track to go ahead.
00:49The concept is potential but it's just not the right place for it. We've got this beautiful green space here.
00:54Several locals who did not want to go on camera say they support the racetrack, one suggesting it's a case of if you build it people will come.
01:04While another local said it's caused great division among residents in her building.
01:09Town of Victoria Park Mayor Karen Vernon has been a vocal critic and is worried the consultation process does not include concerns about the racetrack.
01:18Now they're being told, well tell us your other ideas for out there, we might consider them in addition to the things we're already going to deliver for you.
01:26So that robs them of having their say and if you don't get your say, why is it called consultation?
01:32The government says while it will listen to submissions, the racetrack is non-negotiable.
01:38It was a key election commitment that we gave. It was very much publicised.
01:43But I want to say this, it was described as a motorplex and some people deliberately wanted to describe this as a full-time motorplex, which it isn't.
01:52Community consultation is due to close next month.
