Jeremy Hunt MP meeting with local housing minister about Waverley CIL scandal

Former Chancellor Jeremy Hunt MP has met with the Minister for Housing and Planning, Matthew Pennycook, to discuss the CIL scandal at Waverley Borough Council.
The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a charge that local authorities can impose on new developments to fund infrastructure such as roads, schools, and health services needed to support growth.
However, some homeowners in Waverley have been charged tens of thousands of pounds in penalties after making administrative errors on their planning applications.
Mr Hunt, the MP for Godalming and Ash, said the minister agreed that CIL should not be used in the way Waverley has applied it and pledged to try to help resolve the issue.
Waverley Conservative Opposition leader Cllr Jane Austin , who has been involved in the campaign to address the CIL injustice, also attended the meeting.
