00:00At the World Government Summit in Dubai, the President of Botswana delivered a strong message to young Africans saying,
00:07stay on the continent to turn your ideas into economic success.
00:11But for this success to benefit everyone, he stressed the need for more transparent and honest governance.
00:18When we got in, we set up a forensic audit, basically because we had had incidences where there were serious allegations of corruption.
00:26But it's not just about doing an audit, it's about even giving advice in terms of how we should not repeat what we went through in the past.
00:36So this is very important for us as we rebuild our country, because as we also tend to tell people, we are talking about a second republic.
00:43This message about youth and integrity resonates beyond Botswana.
00:47The Sierra Leonean Chief Minister recounted his personal journey from Chief Innovation Officer at 31 to Minister of Education, then to Head of Government.
00:54I became a Chief Innovation Officer at age 31. I became a Minister of Education at age 33.
00:59And actually at the World Government Summit, I won the World Best Minister Award two years later, at 35 still, you know, as a young person.
01:08Now I became the Chief Minister of my country.
01:12What that tells you is that young people are not just the specific type.
01:16We're not just on the continent sitting, waiting to lead across the board, whether you're looking at arts and music, you see what we do, whether it's sports, whether it's governance and policy, whether it's coding and companies.
01:31Africans are contributing to the world, and more of that will happen.
01:34And to conclude in the role of leaders, Zimbabwean President Imasoni Mnangangwa reminded us states are sovereign and have the right to choose their partners without having to account for it.
