00:00It's a voice ring for sure.
00:02Fuck.
00:03Oh, come on.
00:09That's your trophy now.
00:17It's a story based on a true story that happened in Norway in the 90s.
00:20It has a lot of music, but it's really a relationship drama about these two young boys.
00:27The decisions they take and where those decisions take them.
00:31It's a really heavy, dark relationship story.
00:35And for the performers, what was your relationship with heavy metal prior to filming?
00:41Well, I was really into it.
00:43I was a big fan of a lot of the bands involved.
00:47So to find a role that is so perfectly tied to the history of metal is kind of rare and amazing.
00:56How did you guys prepare for your roles?
00:59Were you guys listening to a lot of music?
01:01Yeah, I listened to a lot of black metal, but playing a guitarist and self-proclaimed leader of the band,
01:08for me it was all about really inflating my ego, seriously, which was fun, tons of fun.
01:14But to wake up every morning and think I'm the best, I'm the best there's ever been, it's amazing.
01:20But then I had to slowly cool off afterwards and, you know, I was kind of not easy to get along with afterwards.
01:28Nice one.
01:29How does heavy metal lend to a thriller horror type genre?
01:34Well, I wouldn't say it does really.
01:37It's actually black metal.
01:39It's a big difference.
01:40It's not heavy metal.
01:41True Norwegian black metal.
01:42True Norwegian black metal.
01:43Yeah.
01:44What is the difference between black and heavy metal?
01:46Oh man, now you're going into deep discussions.
01:48This is a long meeting.
01:50It's really different.
01:51It's definitely a big difference.
01:53And part of the story is that these kids actually invented this type of music that are still around.
02:01And a lot of people are trying to do what they did back then, but haven't really succeeded to do it as good as they did back then.
02:08It's part of the story because they were young and very driven kids.
02:12You know, at 18, 17, 18, 19, starting a record store, having your own label and touring and signing bands and killing people and burning down churches.
02:24That's a lot of energy.
02:26That's a driven kid, you know.
02:28Yeah.
02:29And that's all those things that they actually managed to do in such a short time that affected so many people's lives up to this day.
02:37You know, people are very sensitive when it comes to this story.
02:40A lot of people claim they own this story and they're very emotional about this story up to this day.
02:45For those who aren't necessarily fans or aware of the Norwegian black metal music scene, what can they take away from this movie?
02:56I think this movie, like I said, you don't necessarily need to know anything about the story.
03:01It is a story that appeals to you at any age, wherever you come from, the way I see it, you know.
03:08Being a teenager, you know, growing up, everyone's either, you know, going through it or have gone through it or have kids going through it.
03:15And then, you know, it's all that and, you know, the relationships between all these kids.
03:19And then, you know, on top of that, this crazy story of what happened and, you know, all these extreme, you know, the story itself is so unbelievable that I think just that will catch people's interest a lot.
03:32So, you know, there's, I think there's something in it for everybody.
03:35As bizarre a story it is, it is relatable somehow.
03:39Yeah.
03:40Yeah, there are a lot of archetypes in there that are very relatable and it's a very, a lot of epic relationships.
03:45And I know it was important for the actors that it be a lot about the people and not so much about the music, but more just these relationships and the descent into madness.
