00:00I guess I want to start off with, John, I heard your birthday's tomorrow.
00:02Is that right?
00:03What?
00:05Damn!
00:09No, you know what that is?
00:10That's a mistake.
00:12In Australia, I used to live in Australia, and they say it in reverse.
00:17Day month.
00:18The 9th to the 11th.
00:19Yeah, day month.
00:20Oh.
00:21And so my birthday is November 9th.
00:23What?
00:24Is that true?
00:25Yeah.
00:26My birthday is November 9th, but for some reason online, it's 9th to the 11th.
00:29You're correcting it now for the world.
00:31Are you sure you didn't?
00:31But no, don't.
00:32Don't correct it, because what happens is I get birthday wishes on two different days.
00:37So for any identity thieves out there, the proper birthday.
00:41Lovely.
00:48This is the story of Chappaquiddick, which is an incident where a young Ted Kennedy, Senator
00:56Ted Kennedy crashed a car off of a bridge, and there was a young woman in the car who
01:02died.
01:03Ted Kennedy then sort of didn't handle it quite perfectly.
01:09The film's really that week, that pivotal week in Ted Kennedy's life.
01:13Yeah.
01:14I don't think any of us were trying to mimic him, you know, specifically and go too hard
01:20on that.
01:21You know, and Jason did a fantastic job making the character his own, which I think is the
01:25point.
01:26I didn't know.
01:27I really didn't know anything about this story.
01:29So reading the script for the first time was really quite thrilling and upsetting.
01:34And I couldn't put it down.
01:37So I really had to research, you know, as much as I could about Mary Jo and about the
01:43entire, you know, incident, because I wasn't familiar at all.
01:48But there isn't, you know, there's only so much information out there about her.
01:53So, yeah, I definitely, I tried to find out as much as I could.
01:57But, yeah, that was about it for me.
02:00I did it all, as much as I could.
02:02I mean, right from, you know, making teeth, which took a lot of work.
02:05And she did a lot of help to get that, you know, Ted smile and size of his face to getting
02:09a wig right to, um, and then video-wise, I didn't know there was a wonderful sailing
02:15movie of Ted and, um, and, and, and, and, um, Joe, Joe Gargan, um, sailing, you know,
02:23just free and easy.
02:24But really, you know, Steve McQueen, glasses, cigarette in the mouth, pulling up the sails,
02:29pointing to the, you know, and then to the, to the great speeches of Ted and his family
02:33and his brothers and his father.
02:34And it's, it's researching this story and this family is, is, is, is, you know, modern
02:41American and moral history in the 20th century.
02:43I think that they'll take away that my character, Joe Gargan, was so pivotal to American history
02:52in a way that, uh, they had no idea before.
02:56Right?
02:57I mean, when I, when I kind of, uh, um, that's right, that's right.
03:02Yeah.
03:02Yeah.
03:03Yeah.
03:08Yeah.
