00:002026 will have more power for college football coaches actively on the hot seat than any year in the past
00:08decade.
00:08You start looking at Mike Norvell, Florida State, Luke Fickle, Wisconsin, Dave Aranda, who is at Baylor, Mike Locksley at
00:18Maryland, Lincoln Riley at USC.
00:22Oh, goodness gracious. I'm going to leave it.
00:27I feel like this past year, there was just so much going on with this coaching carousel.
00:31There are some big names out there. I think Dabo should probably be on the hot seat.
00:34Really?
00:35Yeah. I mean, at some point, he's got to be able to at least produce like an ACC championship or
00:41something, especially given his history.
00:43But he just has not adapted to the modern day college football. I would have Dabo.
00:47Mike Norvell, I feel like he should have been fired yesterday.
00:50Well, I think if they could have afforded to fire him still, they would have.
00:53You get those big contracts and robust buyouts and you have to start making the decision.
00:57Like if we fire him, you know, we're not going to have any money to pay players and we're going
01:02to have to pay a new coach.
01:03So like you're going to have a lot of issues that you have to ultimately figure out.
01:06Yeah, I just I think people that are on the hot seat aren't really on the hot seat, in my
01:11opinion.
01:12Like I feel like Alabama fans would say Caelan DeBoer is on the hot seat, even though he's done pretty,
01:16pretty well, considering he had to follow Nick Saban.
01:19So I'm going to leave that.
01:20I feel like last year that was kind of the pinnacle of head coaching hot seats.
01:25If Alabama doesn't make the playoff this year, do you think Caelan DeBoer is, is he out, you think?
01:31I think that's where you can say he's on the hot seat.
01:34I don't I wouldn't say he's out.
01:35OK, I mean, you know, they didn't make it this next second year, correct?
01:42They didn't make it the first year and then they made it the second year, but they got absolutely.
01:48They got by Oklahoma, who are wait.
01:52No, Indiana, Indiana.
01:53They beat Oklahoma, which that game Oklahoma was up on and they came back and I'll give them credit for
01:59that.
01:59But yeah, Indiana smoked him.
02:01I think if he doesn't make the playoff this year, I think he could be out.
02:04I'm going to leave this with you, you know, because I think that there was a ton of coaches fired
02:09last year.
02:10The guys that he mentioned, I think Norvell, for sure on the hot seat.
02:15Yeah, he has.
02:16They have got to win.
02:17And I think they would have fired him.
02:19The thing that saved him last year is they beat Bama.
02:21And then everybody like amped up those expectations.
02:24Like, oh, they'll win eight or nine games.
02:25They'll win nine or ten.
02:26They make the playoff.
02:27Like you beat Alabama.
02:28That's going to carry a long way.
02:30Luke Prickle, I think, you know, he hasn't been great.
02:34Like, he has been at Wisconsin.
02:36They think they offered him an extension.
02:38He turned it down.
02:40And I think part of that was like, hey, they're going to spend the money they could have spent firing
02:44him and spend that on players.
02:47And then we'll see how that ultimately looks.
02:49But still, like when you spend more money on things, there's a higher degree of expectation.
02:53And so now that's going to be there with Prickle.
02:55But I think he should be able to get that done.
02:58But I think he's a guy, I mean, hot seat.
03:00I mean, he's on the edge of the blast, the inferno.
03:04I mean, it's really warm.
03:06Oh, yeah.
03:06Because, I mean, you think about Wisconsin.
03:08Back even whenever I was still in college, I think 2019, that's whenever they had Jonathan Taylor.
03:13And for many years, like, they always had a stud running back.
03:15They were always a really good defense.
03:17And they were always very disciplined.
03:19And now you look at Wisconsin now.
03:20They just haven't had any sort of buzz around them in the past three, almost four years.
03:25So there's got to be a change on that front.
03:27Maybe it's getting Luke Fickle out, someone else in.
03:29But, yeah, I feel like he seems like the guy for the job.
03:33I mean, he's like a tough dude.
03:34And that's kind of Wisconsin football.
03:36But I don't know.
03:37Maybe there needs to be a change.
03:38Yeah, he embodied.
03:40I thought he would be a home run there.
03:42I think, honestly, what happened is you had this confluence of the NIL and the transfer portal.
03:50Like, they weren't spending.
03:51I think people in Wisconsin just got used to them always being good.
03:53Instead, they got kind of complacent.
03:55They never really spent a lot on football.
03:56They did a great job developing.
03:58And now the problem is you would develop guys, and then they would just leave.
04:01Or you couldn't even get Wisconsin guys anymore.
04:03Like, Carson Hinsman, I joke, the best lineman in the state of Wisconsin is playing for Ohio State.
04:09And Carson Hinsman.
04:10And I go, that's the problem that you have is when then you start losing those in-state guys.
04:15And so, you know, you played Wisconsin.
04:17They were always so physical and big on the offensive line.
04:20They'd get after you, and it feels like they just don't have those horses now.
04:24So I think that they've added in, you know, the ability to go after it and go get it and
04:29create those – keep those players in-state.
04:32Maybe go get a couple of guys, steal some guys in the portal.
04:35And then a big part of it, too, with Wisconsin is keeping their quarterback healthy.
04:38They've had the worst luck when it comes to quarterback health.
04:41Mike Molluxley at Maryland, I can't believe he kept his job.
04:45I think it's part of it.
04:46Maybe they had a buyout, and I don't know if they think that they – believe they can do any
04:50better.
04:50And then Lincoln Riley at USC.
04:53Still, I mean, he's been out there now for a number of years, I think four years.
04:59I mean, he hasn't made a playoff.
05:02He hasn't been great.
05:05I wonder just how much longer it's going to fly out there with him because I don't think he's the
05:09most amendable person with the media and the fans as well.
