00:00We'll go around the NFL real quick hitting the Texans aspect of this one
00:05opening half occurs on the Texans offensive staff as Texans assistant offensive
00:10line coach Zach Yenser is being hired to go to Miami to go and be
00:15the offensive line coach there for the Dolphins under Bobby Slowick and his
00:20offensive circumstance there so does this one does this move the needle at all for
00:24you
00:25because offensive line coaches and you know assistants that's in of great
00:29conversation
00:30over the last year or so here in Houston but we give a lot of credit and a lot
00:34of credit
00:35is paid to Cole Popovich I I'm gonna be honest I hadn't heard Jack Zach Yenser's
00:39name
00:40be mentioned more than maybe a couple of times
00:42I just heard the name didn't really pay attention
00:45too much during camp and all that stuff um but no it really doesn't move the
00:49needle
00:50that's a promotion I mean that's certainly you know that that's an
00:52opportunity so you can't you can't say anything else
00:55otherwise yeah and obviously your assistant line coach matters to some degree
01:00but the question that pops up in my head is how much so when you had a Chris
01:04Strasser's offensive
01:05line coach Cole Popovich as an assistant and you saw the distinction that happened there
01:08even if we're not talking about
01:10talent-wise from the fundamentals and the way they go about it hopefully that does
01:14not end up being
01:15a net negative for the Texans but obviously you wish Zach his his his uh
01:20you know good fortune moving forward I will say it feels like he has a job ahead of him that's not
01:25what a great offensive line in Miami um and that's one of the reasons why I know that uh Luke
01:29Morrow
01:30was asking uh us about it in the cross talk we didn't really talk about it but
01:33that's one of the reasons why I'm a little skeptic
01:35on the Bobby Slowick hire obviously all the things that we've seen but also you need a good offensive line
01:40or at least you need a solid offensive line play I think you know for this to work or at the very least we've seen what
01:45it looks like for him previously with bad offensive line play I don't think that's great offensive line play
01:50over there now to what level we'll see and maybe Zach goes in Mr. Yenzer himself goes in
01:55helps them find and establish a floor yeah for them but I I don't know that that bodes well
02:00for what the Miami Dolphins are going to do in this upcoming season are you skeptical or you kind of worried that by
02:05Bobby might find something there with less talent yes yeah the answer
02:10Chris yes my thing with this is Bobby Slowick certainly had his issues
02:15it seemed like certainly with with CJ Stroud which that hasn't gone away with with Nick Caley
02:20so maybe you know we've talked about CJ Stroud's part in this I also feel one thing that
02:25I I think has become abundantly clear is the type of off
02:30offensive line blocking that you coach is immensely important
02:35once they went into inside zone you know straight you know Patriot style
02:40they'd be they they had a measure of success you know let's not start pulling any muscles patting our
02:45ourselves on the back just yet they were better there were still some certainly there were still some big issues here
02:50no question it's one of the reasons why this offseason I'm not like well it's fine no offensive line I think you need to address
02:55two or two or three times still but the style the style of blocking the that that your coaching
03:00and so maybe here is more of a Bobby Slowick type outside zone
03:05West Coast offense that type thing and it will fit yeah so another reason for
03:10I think Texans eyes to be not fully trained but at least check in on Bob
03:15Slowick and the Miami Dolphins offense from time to time in the 2026.
03:20football season we were talking about it earlier it's still such an interesting thing we have now
03:25only two head coaching jobs opening open after yesterday we found out that Todd Monken will be
03:30the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns previously the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore
03:35Ravens and this came as a surprise because it felt like especially after the likes of Neil not Neil
03:40Nate Schielhaus the the kind of wonder kid that has been getting a little bit of a love
03:45out of Los Angeles he turned down you know or he didn't get the job or what have you you
03:50didn't ski pulls out of the job obviously Mike McDaniel black Mike pulled out of the job last week
03:55we were looking and we're like who else is left are they just gonna give the job to Jim Schwartz
03:58apparently he thought so
04:00yeah as according to Tom Pellicero after the Browns informed Jim Schwartz that
04:05they were passing over him to hire Todd Monken Schwartz was visibly upset said goodbyes
04:10he's in the building and told other coaches that he's not coming back Schwartz is under contract
04:15mind you like so this is one of those things where he's just taking his ball and going home in order to do
04:20this yeah in order to leave uh look I I really feel we talked about a little bit it's obviously at
04:25the center of the question of the day which you can bring keep bringing those in uh you know when
04:29have you caused the scene
04:30you know he caused the type of scene and I he didn't hurt anybody or anything that as far as reports that we've seen
04:35I think he was kind of told that he would get the job and it speaks more to Cleveland
04:40than anything I wonder if Todd Monken getting the job have anything to do with him in particular
04:45yeah because oh we got to go and find if there's beef there because Ravens because Todd Monken as much
04:50as uh you know as as good as he is with offense and all that stuff he was never a head coach
04:55before right and uh Jim Schwartz was only a head coach one time with one
05:00team so you would think if they gonna go in that type of direction you will probably promote
05:05him the head coach right but you bring somebody else in that that'd be 60 this year
05:10yeah he probably like this effing guy yeah like over me you gonna do this to me
05:15me jake maybe he said that um the other thing is car
05:20cardinals and raiders are the only two jobs still open and it feels like one of those is pretty
05:24it's a bidding war isn't it
05:25well for who Clay Kubiak I don't think it's a bidding war at all
05:30well it's gonna be a Clint Kubiak maybe there's a better way to yeah and I feel like even that oh
05:34you think the cardinals
05:35you're rolling with I don't have that's the one that I'm like they're gonna have no really weird
05:39trying to do yeah and I
05:40shout out to Fred Warner who alluded to you know the dragon meme where all these fierce dragons you have
05:45one that looks like a derp yeah he referred to the nfc west is that saying that the cardinals are unfortunately
05:50in this weird place and I think that that's accurate you look at the rest of the nfc west and you go the niners
05:55we know what they can do even if they're being a little shaky with their personnel right now the seahawks are in literally
06:00in the Super Bowl the Rams were a step away from the Super Bowl we know they continue to show up in that way
06:05especially provided that Matt Stafford returns I don't even know who the cardinals are going are looking
06:10to hire at that position and whether or not they'll have a good foundational work off of
06:15and it feels weird to be able to say that I think the Raiders position would be a better one
06:20before yeah and it seems like at the very least that maybe Tom Brady likes him and if that's the case
06:25that's because he's taking such a much bigger role it was weird on championship sunday
06:30they were interviewing another candidate but Tom Brady wasn't there that almost because he's calling the AS
06:35nfc championship game or nfc championship game rather that almost feels like a tell that hey
06:40that you're not actually getting the job because if Tom Brady's not involved how much how much are you actually going to get this job
06:45I think that Clint Kubiak is set for that I do too but I think in terms of that specific
06:50one you know Tom Brady may well have spoken with him elsewhere uh you know uh
06:55you know it's possible but if you're going through official official uh meetings around Tom Brady
07:00you would think that's what I imagine you know whatever maybe so but I I do think Clint Kubiak
07:05and I don't think maybe you're gonna think I'm an idiot I don't think the Raiders don't worry about that
07:10it's all that bad ah you know with you don't think it's all that bad or
07:15I think what's better than the Cardinals job I take that one over the Cardinals job yeah and I think that's what
07:20that's that's where I'm at with you I think the first overall pick alone kind of make it a little better yeah I think yeah
07:25you have a little more security uh just because you you would be the new guy especially a young guy like Clint Kubiak
07:30with a young quarterback Cardinals man I don't even know if they plan on keeping their quarterback
07:35right like I have no idea what they what they got plans well Colin Murray any of your free agent I think
07:40that's just uh that's just gonna be a fool I don't think yeah I don't think he's a free agent he's a free agent maybe
07:45he is uh but still they might move on from him um one of the things I saw someone talking about
07:50with the Monk and higher and why they believe it to be a failure they passed on Nate Schilhaus because
07:55Schwartz didn't want to because Schwartz they want to keep Schwartz yeah I think that's an ownership thought process
08:00they wanted to keep him they pass on the young wunderkind as I mentioned in Newton in Schilhaus
08:05because Schwartz didn't want to play ball you ultimately go and get Monk and Schwartz doesn't want to play ball so you
08:10did not get who the general manager recommended and you didn't keep the DC that the coach that the owner
08:15wanted and that is my friends what is dysfunction I think that's that we call that dysfunction because I
08:20think the owner wanted Schwartz the GM wanted uh the cat from um the ranch
08:25Rams that's right and nobody got what they wanted at all and Miles Garrett is asking me
08:30out right um going to I don't know I think that's what the money is for you
08:35you you've been here through worse you know I mean I feel like that's how we have to handle that
08:38you've been here
08:40through worse uh so but yeah that that defense it'll be interesting to see who they get to to
08:45hire defensively because that's been an interesting question who you know where defensive coaches go
08:50in this cycle the Chargers seem to have gotten their guy they went to college I was not
08:55expecting this Western Michigan defensive coordinator Chris O'Leary steps up to the pros he'll be the
08:59charge
09:00defensive coordinator um there can I go to the the hall of fame of it all
09:05I know that some people might be rolling their eyes might be tired of it but the Bill Belichick
09:08thing has taken a big like it's been
09:10a big conversation piece in the national football landscape him at least the reporting that he is
09:15not going to be inducted into the hall of fame um first and foremost did you see what the pro football hall of fame
09:20did I did uh and they did two things yesterday that I found to be interesting
09:25first and foremost they confirmed to Bill Polian that he did vote for uh Bill Belichick so they
09:30they they brushed up on his memory so that he would know that that's so funny but then did you see them
09:35put out a statement where they were basically I mean how would you characterize this statement
09:40John because I want to make sure that I do this they basically said hey now uh you know
09:45the voters the 50 voters know what the rules are and if they including uh you know making their vote
09:50because Vahe Gregorian uh who's a writer up in Ohio I'm not a real man that is not no Vahe I
09:55know Vahe uh from back then he used to cover college basketball when I was on that beat but anyway um
10:00is he let me Missouri anyway but but Vahe Gregorian came out publicly and said I did not vote
10:05vote for uh for uh for Bill Belichick uh and yeah he wrote for the Kansas City
10:10star in fact yeah and I thought that the reasoning that he threw in here was interesting because
10:15he made sure to clarify again that the that the senior committee
10:20portion of the voting it's you're you're putting you know senior players
10:25that did not make it in the you know the contemporary bracket and then contributors
10:28and coaches all in the same
10:30place you only have a certain number of votes and he he got in there
10:35and he was like there's dudes that former players that he thought had been passed over erroneously and
10:40wrongly and he was like I want these guys to go in to try and address some of the past wrongs and it's
10:45seemed like he also took this from a perspective of Bill Belichick will get in so why not I I can
10:50use this vote in this moment to try and get in players that have not been acknowledged in the way that he feels
10:55that they right should rightfully should have yes solid logic but again there is it there I was
11:00gonna say his logic I get it I'll put it that way that's kind of some fantasy football draft type
11:05stuff like I know he gonna be there again so let me take this person right exactly but at the same
11:10time I think he went with uh Ken Anderson Roger Craig and LC Greenwood were the former players that
11:15he said he didn't even vote for Robert Kraft either because that's an interesting dynamic we haven't that we didn't mention on the show
11:20Robert Kraft is one of the dudes on the senior committee and that is another level I'm sure that
11:25really probably chaps Bill Belichick's hide more than anything if we get to when they fully announce
11:30who's in the class and Robert Kraft is in and Bill Belichick isn't yeah that's the first thing I thought about
11:35I'm like man maybe there's some beef going on between those two where it may be today
11:40but anyway back back to Vahe's vote I get his logic I still think it's
11:45wrong because there are there are is he a first ballot hall of famer candidates and
11:50then there's he's a first ballot hall of famer and and uh Bill Belichick is a first
11:55ballot hall of famer no matter who you'd like to get in Ken Anderson
12:00I'm not sure he's deserving at all oh wow you're no I'm not bleep Ken Anderson
12:05getting here on the program today but yeah that that those are a few things that were happening
12:09that I found to be very
12:10very interesting on this level um around the NFL another thing
12:15we were talking about the Mike McCarthy hire this one obviously dates back a few days
12:18there's more that's kind
12:20kind of come together and there was a a piece in the athletic written by Mike DeFabo
12:25out of Pittsburgh not a real person I that's what I thought at first too and then I saw his name and I was like
12:30I guess so uh but I think I might be I might have been a little hate
12:35hasty in my criticism of the McCarthy hire do you agree with this sentiment that the
12:40McCarthy hire is everything to do with quarterbacks but not necessarily Aaron Rodgers because obviously that was
12:45a thought process they've worked together is he going to be someone that helps bring Aaron Rodgers
12:50back for whatever that is worth to you which doesn't matter a lot to me I think that as he continues to age
12:55becomes a little bit more difficult to make that work at that level but Mike McCarthy
13:00is viewed as a quarterback not necessarily whisperer but a quarterback developer
13:04yeah and
13:05that has been a that has been a Steelers issue for
13:07um since honestly
13:10in the midst of the Big Ben circumstances because
13:13Benjamin Ben Roethlis for
13:15Berger got pretty bad towards the end of it they just couldn't find any answers and they haven't been there
13:20how much of this do you look at the Mike McCarthy hires obviously the stability but then some feeling that they will get
13:25the quarterback situation answered under his tenure I actually I think that's the entire reason he was hired
13:30it goes back to
13:30well we know we have a good defense it's it's it's aging but we know we have a
13:35good defense what's our what's the big limitation right now Aaron Rodgers as as
13:40good to very good as he was this year we saw his shortcomings
13:45you know we saw them you know personally you know against the Texas yes
13:50and and so I think you know that the fact that that I don't think Aaron Rodgers is coming back to Pittsburgh
13:55by the way you know I think I think Mike McCarthy was being very respectful and
14:00you know honoring Aaron Rodgers and and you know past relationships and that type stuff
14:05but I don't think he's come back I think they're gonna have to come get a young quarterback and develop it
14:09and that's what Mike Mike
14:10and that's what Mike McCarthy's there for
14:10yeah
14:11okay
