00:00Scorching temperatures are on the cards today right across the state, and the Bureau is
00:07warning that we could see records broken. A top of 45 degrees has been forecast for
00:13Adelaide today. If that maximum is reached, that would be the hottest day the city has
00:18seen since 2019, and would also be the hottest Australia day on record for the city. But
00:29elsewhere across the state, there is an extreme fire weather warning in place for the west
00:35coast, and around 11 districts are classed as a high fire danger today. But it is in
00:43the regions where we're expecting to see those more intense temperatures. Port Augusta and
00:50Tarkula are forecast to reach a top of 48 and 47 in places like Woodna and Port Piri. Now
00:58this prolonged heat wave has also caused some changes and cancellations to planned events
01:04for Australia Day. The annual Auslights on the river performance has been cancelled. That
01:10was due to attract about 25,000 people to the banks of the River Torrens, and the fireworks
01:18at Elder Park have also been cooled off. But we've seen plenty of people heading to pools
01:24and beaches to try and beat the heat today and to keep cool. Now, a code red has been extended
01:31until Wednesday at a tier two level. Now, what that means is that it provides more support
01:37for rough sleepers across the city, meaning that some overnight accommodation may be available.
01:44Now, Homelessness Support Services have also been saying that they've seen a massive spike in people
01:50coming to them to seek assistance during these ongoing heat wave conditions. And as such, they've
01:58prolonged their opening hours as well as bolstering their staff to try and meet this increased demand
02:07for support. Now, the Bureau is warning that tomorrow as well could be a day of extreme bushfire danger,
02:16but they say that for the city that we are expecting to see a slight reprieve from the heat on Wednesday,
02:23but that's not the case for northern parts of the state. They're expecting to see maximums reaching above 40
02:30degrees until the weekend, Mel. All right, Rachel Merritt in Adelaide there for us. Thanks very much.
