South Australians have been trying keep cool as the state continues to swelter through a heatwave. Australia Day top temperatures could be broken, and some events have been cancelled with the mercury tipped to be in the mid-40s across much of the state.

00:00With no sign of this heatwave skating away, Plenty headed to Adelaide's ice arena to cool down.
00:07It's really hot today so it's really hard to find somewhere to go.
00:10We decided to just come here and skate and have fun all together.
00:14While many are doing their best to escape the heat today, respite might be a little while off, with temperatures really heating up tomorrow for the public holiday.
00:21The Bureau of Meteorology says it could reach 45 degrees in Adelaide.
00:25We could even see some temperatures reaching higher than that, even pushing up to 49 degrees.
00:30So it will be a very hot public holiday right across the state.
00:33The Balm says the city could surpass its last Australia Day record of 41.6 degrees set in 2006.
00:39It's a situation that led organisers to scrap this year's evening event and fireworks show at Elder Park.
00:45But they're going ahead with the morning in the morning service.
00:48We'll have extra shade shelter, we'll have misting centres and plenty of free refillable water and bottles of water.
00:56The hot forecast has homeless support services concerned.
00:59Tomorrow's weather will be so oppressive that it will be a life and death situation.
01:04Hutt Street Centre is extending its hours on Monday.
01:07If they're not off the streets they're going to be in our hospitals and that's not the place for them to be.
01:12So fortunately we can keep our centre open.
01:15A heatwave warning across much of the state will remain in place for the coming days.
