00:00We're expecting today we've got 45 degrees the maximum as you just mentioned for Adelaide
00:08but that heat is really expected to linger tomorrow forecasting 43 for Adelaide and the
00:13potential for a number of both January but annual records to be broken particularly through
00:18parts of east and south Australia and also western parts of Victoria or western parts
00:24of New South Wales as we move into tomorrow where maximum temperatures will be nudging
00:29towards 50 degrees. Tomorrow in the Malley district forecasting for Wolpi up 49 degrees,
00:36Oyun also in the Malley in the northwest of Victoria 49 degrees as well. So a lot of the temperatures,
00:42maximum temperatures tomorrow through the region flirting with 50 and moving into even parts of
00:47New South Wales as we head into Wednesday as well. Yeah so as we go up that coast I know parts of
00:53Victoria are suffering with smoke haze as well aren't they because there's still bushfires in
00:58that state and up into New South Wales. Are the fire conditions looking dangerous tomorrow?
01:03Yeah look we do have extreme fire dangers for today across southwestern parts of South Australia and
01:10that's with these gusty northwesterly winds ahead of a trough. Tomorrow however will be the peak fire
01:15danger day across southeastern parts of South Australia and Victoria where we of course have
01:21those ongoing fires. We're expecting them to the fire dangers to reach extreme through western and
01:28central parts of Victoria where of course we've got those Otways fires and with that trough we've got
01:34the wind change which can of course create extra fire complexity. The wind change is expected to be
01:41timed to move through quite similar to the change that we saw on Saturday. So pushing into southwestern parts
01:47of Victoria during the afternoon reaching the Melbourne area late in the evening but the good
01:53news I suppose is with the fires across northeastern parts of Victoria that trough is actually expected
02:00to slip to the southeast so we're not expecting that trough to move through the southeastern for the winds
02:06to be far lighter. That being said the temperatures across northeastern parts of Victoria and really
02:13inland parts of southeastern Australia more broadly are expected to be extremely high in those high
02:1940s and as I mentioned even nudging towards those 50 degrees through some parts. Wow that's really
02:25incredible Sarah. All the while the Northern Territory dealing with the effects of ex-tropical cyclone
02:32Luana. What are conditions like there? Yeah look ex-tropical cyclone Luana crossed the coast
02:40on Sunday. It has weakened now to a tropical low but continues to draw a lot of moisture over
02:46northern parts of Australia but particularly northern parts of WA that is bringing some heavy
02:53rain areas of heavy rainfall but as well damaging winds continue through the area and we have just
02:58issued a severe weather warning that extends much further southwards as we're expecting that moisture
03:03with the heavy rainfall and the damaging winds to start to extend southwards into the southern interior
03:08but even as far south as the Euclid district from tomorrow from Tuesday. So yes the monsoon trough is
03:16really active across northern Australia. We've also had that tropical low that's been sitting in the Gulf of
03:21Carpenteria. That's now moved over to the Cape York Peninsula but it's been continuing to bring increased
03:29widespread showers and storms. We've seen 200 millimetres in the last 24 hours about the northeast tropical
03:36Queensland coast and we're expecting that monsoonal activity continue. We've got widespread
03:42flood watches across northern Australia with this expected increase or continuation of the
03:47monsoonal rains. Wow quite extremes aren't they? We should mention Queensland as well because it is going to be
03:54hot in Brisbane but looking ahead as well Sarah to the next few days the heat is staying with us is it?
04:00Yeah absolutely. We've got the heat is really just lingering over that big southeastern quadrant of
04:07Australia with those temperatures 45 up to sort of high 40s nearly 50 degrees expected to continue into next
04:14weekend. I also wanted to mention though for today as it is Australia Day a lot of people are out celebrating
04:21that there is a deceptively powerful surf expected right along the New South Wales coast and even pushing up into the
04:27Gold Coast area so we have issued a hazardous surf warning for any people that are expecting or have
04:35plans to go down to the beach today there is a hazardous surf warning out and yeah just for people to be aware
04:42of. Yeah good advice very important when people are heading to the beach this Australia Day. Sarah we appreciate
04:48your time as always thank you.
