An "ice storm apocalypse," as described by storm chaser Dr. Reed Timmer, has caused thousands of people to lose power due to widespread damage to trees and power lines in Mississippi on Jan. 25.

00:00We've got an ice storm apocalypse here in Oxford, Mississippi. You can see all
00:04the trees under the weight of the incredible ice as very heavy freezing
00:08rain continues out here. Trees snapping everywhere. Power outages over 120,000
00:14without power here and you can barely even walk on these surfaces. The freezing
00:20rain is coming down very heavy. The temperature is warmed up to about 30
00:23degrees but Arctic air continues to bleed in here. I don't think that this is
00:27going to be melting. I think that this is the slot here for pure freezing rain and
00:32it's accumulating on the power lines and the substations out here. Transformers, big
00:38problems out of northern Mississippi.
