00:00let's get right out to meteorologist tony lawback he joins us live from dallas tony i'm sure you've
00:05had friends calling you for days hey what about this forecast how much you're thinking about here
00:10and and our friends in dallas we've been talking about a big sleet storm right from the get-go
00:15yeah and they uh they got it here and we're doing shout outs yes my mother who is also watching us
00:22from meridian mississippi you're gonna miss it by that much unfortunately my mom not getting in on
00:29a ton of action she'll get in on the cold she's gonna miss out on the snow ice and all the rest
00:33of the fun and uh here in dallas we didn't miss out on a whole lot of fun it has been a sleet fest in
00:39fact all the white that you see around me is all sleet in fact we talk about like walking in it
00:45right now about an inch and a half here where we are in the north side of dallas we're about two miles
00:50north of dfw airport and it is just hard as a rock the ground is the sleet so we're not really dealing
00:56with snow so much here we had a few flurries uh last time we talked about 90 minutes ago
01:00just a hair bit less than that now and that is going to be the case probably on and off throughout
01:06the day we were watching a snow band moving in from the west unfortunately that kind of fizzled
01:10by the time it got here so i would say by all practical purposes most of the accumulating stuff
01:16is going to be done we might add a little bit throughout the day today but really it is the cold that is
01:22going to take over is the big story here in the dallas fort worth metroplex as this storm starts to
01:26finally work its way on out of here yesterday it was pretty much the same north texas it was sleet
01:32over freezing rain that was the question coming in was where was that going to set up unfortunately for
01:38us at least here in the dfw metroplex most of this came down as sleet which kind of alleviated a lot of
01:44the concerns is freezing rain is just an absolute no-go in terms of travel that is where you're going to
01:49start to really see a lot of power outages now plenty of those around for sure but it certainly
01:53could have been a whole lot worse had we had more freezing rain than sleet but that sleet really kind
01:58of came in and saved the day businesses yesterday closed many of those closed again today some were
02:05open like we have a big shopping mall here nearby the mall itself opened but many of the shops inside
02:11the mall were closed a lot of businesses a lot of the excuses for people to go out weren't there so
02:17most people staying home pretty much a ghost town yesterday as we were out and about you're seeing
02:22some of the scenes this is just northwest of the dallas area we were up kind of walking around
02:26yesterday and some of the uh the more uh rural areas because we wanted to see what it looked like
02:30a little bit further north where they got more snow and basically it looked a lot like what you're
02:34seeing here in the dallas fort worth just a lot of sleet had accumulated some places picking up a
02:39couple inches of that and then the further north you got across the red river into oklahoma it was
02:43primarily snow further south though toward the austin area we saw ice storm warnings issued so
02:48it was a wide swath of precip here across northern and central texas so we knew it was going to be a
02:54myriad of precipitation types and that's exactly what we got but fortunately here in the dfw metro
02:59area one of the largest metroplexes not only in texas but uh in the country uh certainly was a a little
03:05bit easier to swallow in terms of the precipitation type being mostly sleet for us here and again with few
03:12people out on the roads yesterday and hopefully again today that will alleviate a lot of the
03:16issues that we typically see when we get this kind of weather in the area but again it's that bitter
03:20cold even as this precip gets on out of here for the next couple of days this cold is going to sit
03:25right now the accuweather real field temperature below zero and when we get these occasional breezes
03:31that kick up it's even worse than that so you want to stay inside i believe we got some good football
03:36on today so all the reason in the world to not be out and uh hopefully everybody kind of respects
03:41that again tomorrow we'll have to see exactly how many folks uh open up here as we get started with
03:46the work week even with the cold probably lingering at least through monday or tuesday and of course uh
03:50tony your team was eliminated years uh years ago and my team lost in the playoffs so we're watching
03:55everybody else today right yeah exactly and uh it was it was weeks ago bernie weeks not years ago
04:03time is a concept it sounded a little better that way tony laubeck live in dallas by the way
