Transcript
00:00Good morning from Charlotte, North Carolina, where we are preparing for a significant winter
00:05storm here this weekend. Right now, temperatures are above freezing, we have a little bit of rain,
00:10and people are starting to prepare by doing shopping, must-needed shopping,
00:15because if we do get an ice storm here, it is expected that we will have power outages,
00:19and some of those power outages could be long-duration power outages. So folks
00:23are busy getting food, important to get food to last that long-duration power outage.
00:29Water, clean water, having plenty of fresh clean water on hand before the power outages hit.
00:35Gas cans are being purchased for generators and firewood to burn in your stoves and your fireplaces
00:40to stay warm. Now we are expecting that ice storm to start tomorrow, so we do still have about 24
00:46hours before things will really begin to degrade tomorrow here in North Carolina. But again, as
00:52that ice forms, it'll collect on trees, collect on power lines, start bringing the power grid down,
00:58and that could be a long-duration event depending on how much ice falls and sets up here in North
01:03Carolina. Further to the north, they'll be dealing with snow up into Virginia, and that'll cause a
01:08whole other set of problems. But here in North Carolina, we are prepped for an ice storm. People
01:13are doing their shopping, they're getting out, and they are getting prepared. For AccuWeather, I'm Aaron Jajak.
