00:00With the 2026 midterm election less than 10 months away, the FCC is stepping into the political spotlight and taking aim at late night and daytime TV.
00:11The Federal Communications Commission now says any talk show that hosts a political candidate must offer equal time to the opposing candidate.
00:19No more one-sided interviews.
00:21For nearly 20 years, late night and daytime shows were exempt from that rule.
00:26The FCC now says that exemption is over.
00:29FCC Chair Brendan Carr said, quote,
00:31For years, legacy TV networks assumed that their late night and daytime talk shows qualify as bona fide news programs, even when motivated by purely partisan political purposes.
00:44Today, the FCC reminded them of their obligation to provide all candidates with equal opportunities.
00:50FCC Commissioner Ana Gomez, a Democrat, fired back, calling the move an escalation of the FCC's push to censor and control speech.
00:58President Trump, who's had a running feud with Jimmy Kimmel and has blasted shows like Kimmel Live and the late show with Stephen Colbert for what he calls anti-conservative bias, jumped in also.
