00:00Police have confirmed that the 35-year-old woman who was found dead in her apartment in Gordonvale yesterday morning was the cousin of the man who's been charged, 29-year-old Jakiya Panadora-Allen.

00:21Police say they arrived at the scene five minutes later where they had to negotiate with the 29-year-old for half an hour before he was taken into custody and the woman's body was found.

00:42The man was taken for medical examination for minor injuries but police say he's been determined to be fit for custody.
00:49The man has been charged with one count of murder as a domestic violence offense.
00:54He appeared here before the Cairns Magistrates Court this morning where he's been remanded in custody.
00:59The matter is due to return to court in March.
