A 45-year-old man has appeared in court in Queensland charged with murder and dismembering a body. The remains of Paul Woods were found earlier this month on the darling downs 140 kilometres west of Brisbane.

00:00Police are appealing for information following the suspicious disappearance of James Woods
00:06just northeast of Toowoomba. The 48-year-old Hampton man is believed to have gone missing
00:11about a fortnight ago. Following their investigations, Gold Coast Police arrested and
00:15charged 45-year-old Sean James Smoothie with murder and interfering with a corpse.
00:20Police divers, cadaver dogs and SES crews have been searching a property at Crestbrook
00:25Creek as part of the ongoing investigation. Darling Downs District Detective Acting Inspector
00:30Ryan Harmer says Mr Woods was last seen riding an unregistered blue and white motorbike on the
00:35afternoon of Saturday October 5 between Hampton and Crestbrook Creek area. Paul's been missing since
00:41the 5th of October. We've been unable to establish any proof of life from Paul on the 5th. We've
00:48spoken to witnesses who have led us to believe that this is obviously a homicide investigation.
00:55Mr Smoothie had his matter briefly mentioned in the Southport Magistrates Court today where the
01:00matter was adjourned to be heard in Toowoomba Magistrates Court tomorrow. The Crow's Nest man remains in custody.
