00:00Acting Venezuelan President JosĂ© RodrĂguez called for national cohesion to confront the
00:15aggression perpetrated by the United States. China reaffirms its support for
00:25Cuba and its rejection towards the United States, blockade and sanctions against the island.
00:34And Donald Trump's administration reinforces police deployment in Minneapolis
00:37followed massive protests over the killing of a US citizen by an ICE agent.
00:48Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Telesu Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:52We begin with the news.
01:07The acting government of Venezuela called for national cohesion to confront the
01:11aggression perpetrated by the United States. Acting President JosĂ© RodrĂguez denounced that
01:16the country is facing a savage and criminal aggression by the United States following the
01:20attack perpetrated against Venezuelan territory. She also emphasized that the country is
01:24resisting an asymmetrical confrontation with a nuclear power but remains determined and maintains
01:30its historical moral superiority. RodrĂguez also called for strengthening national unity with
01:35three objectives, preserving peace, rescuing President Maduro, rescuing President Maduro and
01:40first combatant Celia Flores, and conserving political power to defend the people. Acting
01:45President Maduro and president RodrĂguez affirmed that this battle of the court is the Bolivarian revolution.
02:00And we have to proceed with patience and strategic prudence, with very clear objectives, brothers and
02:08sisters, clear objectives. The first of these is to preserve the peace of the republic. The second is we
02:16have to rescue our people. Someone told us, well, they are going to be permanently blackmailing you with the
02:25president and the first combatant. And we said they declared themselves in combat there and we are in
02:32combat here. But that doesn't mean we aren't cautious. Every step we take, every strategic we implement,
02:41we do so with that in mind. And the third point is to preserve political power because if the Bolivarian
02:50revolution is not in political power, well, imagine the fate of this country.
02:55Moreover, RodrĂguez assured Venezuela possesses a moral and historical superiority with which it will
03:04confront the disproportionate inauguration of the United States.
03:10And just as I say that the military battle is unequal, I must say that we have a moral and historical
03:17superiority that inspires us to resist. We are in a time of resistance and that resistance
03:25must be a victorious one. We have to live here stronger in our unity, stronger in the cohesion
03:32of the country. We have to unite the country because it is a battle that must be fought,
03:37that must be fought by Venezuela as a whole. But the core and the driving force is the revolution
03:43and that is how it should be and we have to commit ourselves to that.
03:50In Venezuela, the Ministry of the People's Power for the Penitentiary Service
03:53announced 116 new releases of people accused of disrupting the constitutional order and
03:58affecting the stability of the nation, thanks to the coordination between the institutions that
04:02make up the South American country's justice system. The Ministry emphasized these actions
04:08follow the comprehensive review of cases voluntarily initiated by constitutional president
04:13Nicolás Maduro-Moros. This process has continued under the direction of acting president
04:18Eloyna Rodriguez Gomez within the framework of a policy geared toward justice, dialogue and the
04:24preservation of peace. This review procedure will be maintained on a permanent and continuous basis,
04:30always in strict compliance with the legal system in force. Finally, the statement highlights the
04:35Venezuelan state, thus reaffirms its institutional strength and commitment to delivering justice in the
04:41exercise of its sovereignty with measures that contribute to consolidating peace for the entire Venezuelan people.
04:48On Monday, Venezuela began the second half of the 2025-2026 school year with complete
05:03normality despite the recent U.S. military attack against the country. The Ministry of Education
05:08informed that children and young people across the country are returning to classrooms after the
05:12December holiday period. According to authorities, the country's educational institutions are in
05:17optimal condition thanks to a rehabilitation and preventive maintenance plan promoted by President
05:22Nicolás Maduro. In addition, all educational institutions are guaranteed the school-feeding program
05:28which provides breakfast, lunch and snacks to students as part of the Bolivarian government's social
05:33protection policies.
05:43And at her regular morning press conference, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum referred to a telephone
05:48conversation she had with her U.S. counterpart Donald Trump. The head of state mentioned the work of the
05:53joint Mexican-U.S. commission aimed at implementing actions against drugs and organized crime groups on
05:58both sides of the border. In this regard, Sheinbaum highlighted the decrease in fentanyl seizures in the
06:03United States as well as the decrease in the homicide rate in Mexico. In addition, Claudia Sheinbaum said that
06:09during the conversation with the U.S. President, the Mexican government made clear its position regarding
06:13the defense of its national sovereignty.
06:25And in the United States, protesters in Brooklyn demanded respect for Venezuelan sovereignty and the
06:29release of President Nicolás Maduro, who has been kidnapped in New York since January 3rd. On Sunday,
06:35pro-Venezuela and anti-war organizations gathered near the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center, where security
06:41measures and police presence had been reinforced. In this scenario, the demonstrators expressed their
06:46support for the Venezuelan government, while condemning the arbitrary abduction of the Venezuelan
06:51president and his wife, a flagrant violation of international law. Protesters stated that the
06:56president's kidnapping is part of a strategy to seize the country's natural resources.
07:00We have our first break coming up. Remember, you're going to join us on TikTok at TeleStream English,
07:11where you'll find news in different formats, news updates, and much more. I'll be right back. Stay with us.
07:25Welcome back.
07:36Q1 President Miguel DĂaz-Canel denied any ongoing negotiations with the United States following
07:41Trump's statements on the matter. On his social media, President DĂaz-Canel said,
07:46there are no talks with the U.S. government except for technical contacts in the area of migration.
07:51We have always been willing to engage in serious and responsible dialogue with the various U.S.
07:55administrations, including the current one, on the basis of sovereign equality, mutual respect,
08:00principles of international law, mutual benefit without interference in internal affairs, and with
08:05full respect for our independence. The origin and extreme tightening of the blockade have no connection
08:11with Cubans living in the U.S., who were driven there by that failed policy and by the privileges
08:16of the Cuban Adjustment Act. They are now victims of the change in the policies toward migrants and the
08:21betrayal of Miami politicians. As history shows, for relations between the U.S. and Cuba to move forward,
08:27they must be based on international law rather than hostility, threats, and economic coercion.
08:32And in this context of U.S. threats and intimidation attempts, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez
08:44highlighted the importance of a new world order. On X, the Foreign Minister stated,
08:48there is an urgent need for a new democratic and equitable international order that guarantees peace,
08:54the right to development, sovereign equality, and the participation and representation of
08:58developing countries in global policy decisions. Rodriguez added that the world needs
09:02an international order that respects and promotes multilateralism, that contributes to the common
09:07good, prosperity, and harmony with nature, and that ensures the exercise of all human rights for all people.
09:25Also in Cuba, authorities and citizens denounced Washington's ongoing threats and ratified their
09:29will to defend the homeland. A correspondent, Isabel DĂaz-González, with the details.
09:36In response to the recent offensive statements by the U.S. President against Cuba, the people's response
09:41has been immediate rejection, indignation, and reaffirmation of national sovereignty.
09:46With Cubans remain firm, we are not intimidated by Trump's position or the measures he takes. We are truly committed to our land,
09:56and we will defend it to the last drop of blood with all the courage and dedication that we show the world,
10:02and the example that we set for the world with all our exemplary behavior, which means that we as Cubans
10:09are the heroes of Antonio Maceo. We are the heroes of Fidel Castro, not because we are related to him,
10:22but because we share and defend their ideas. And really, we are the heroes of Antonio Maceo,
10:29we are the heroes of Fidel Castro, not because we are related to him, but because we share and defend
10:36their ideas. And really, the only thing we said, as Maceo said, is whoever tries to take over Cuba
10:46will only collect the dust from its blood-soaked soil if they don't perish in the struggle. And as
10:52Fidel said, homeland or death, we will prevail, socialism or death.
11:00The main work is to avoid war, and that is what Venezuela, the people of Cuba, Nicaragua,
11:05all the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean are doing, avoiding war. Today,
11:10Cuba and Latin America demand that Venezuela no longer be attacked, that the world no longer be attacked,
11:15and Cuba will fight with everything it has to support Venezuela and Latin America as a zone of peace.
11:20And, well, we are already in combat.
11:25Human leaders led by the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party and
11:29President of the Republic, Miguel DĂaz-Canel, the head of the National Assembly of People's Power and
11:34the Council of States, Esteban Lazo Hernández, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz and Foreign Minister
11:40Bruno RodrĂguez Parrilla firmly emphasized on their social media that the island will not give in to the
11:45threats or blackmail.
11:46There is something that we do not like, and we do not like that they threaten us.
11:54We do not like that they threaten us. We do not like that they threaten us. We do not like that.
12:05Cuba confirms that no external threat or imperialist pretension will break its independence or its
12:25threat or imperialist pretension will break its independence or its will be that us.

12:38The Chinese government, we are from a Monday's support for Cuba made U.S. threats and its
12:42rejection to the blockade and sanctions it maintains against the Caribbean nation.
12:46China firmly supports Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security, opposes
12:58external interference and, once again, urges the United States to immediately cease its
13:05blockade and sanctions against Cuba, as well as any form of coercion, and to do more things
13:13that are conductive to regional peace and stability.
13:23Latin American countries are sovereign and independent states and have the right to
13:28independently choose their cooperation partners. No matter how the situation evolves, China will
13:34continue to deepen practical cooperation with Latin American countries, including Venezuela
13:40and promoting common development.
13:59Hawaii's Kilauea Volcano is on the brink of its 40th eruption due to recent activity. On
14:04Saturday morning, volcanic tremors intensify and, by night, dome-shaped lava fountains reach
14:1050 feet. The United States Geological Survey projects that sustained lava fountains could occur at
14:16any time between Monday and Wednesday.
14:18Kilauea has been erupting
14:20episodically since December 23, 2024, primarily from two vents. Eruptive episodes, which generally
14:28last less than 12 hours, are separated by pauses that can be as long as over two weeks.
14:33Kilauea is among the most active volcanoes in the world.
14:43In Argentina, firefighters and local residents are battling forest fires in Patagonia amid budget cuts
14:48by the administration of Javier Mele, which are impacting the emergency response. The most critical
14:53hotspots are concentrated in Los Alerses National Park and the Puerto Patriarca area in the town of El
14:59Ojo. The fires have led to the evacuation of hundreds of people and have so far consumed thousands of
15:05hectares of reduced native forests, affecting an ecosystem of vital importance. This emergency
15:11occurs while the government of President Javier Mele implements severe budget cuts in funds allocated
15:18to fire prevention and firing a measure criticized by specialists and firefighters for their part.
15:23Emergency teams are assessing the damage and preparing for a challenging summer in terms of the
15:29environment.
15:37And in Bolivia, protests against the national government continue despite the agreement reached
15:42between the administration of Rodrigo Paz and the Bolivian Workers' Central Union. Although the decision to
15:47repeal decree 5503 has been made social, organizations are continuing to protest and block roads in various
15:54areas, including La Paz, Cochabamba and Norudo. In this scenario, cultural workers in northern PotosĂ are
15:59demanding that decrees 5509 and 5515, which relate to Internet services and allow the head of state to
16:05exercise its functions remotely through technological means, also be repealed. In addition, the protesters demand
16:11the elimination of lifetime pensions for former presidents and the reduction of salaries in the public
16:16administration. We have our second short break coming up. Before we invite you to visit our Facebook
16:26page at Telespringlish, they will be able to watch our top stories, special live coverage and much more.

16:36If I wish you'd break, don't go away.
16:58Welcome back. The Donald Trump's administration reinforces police deployment in Minneapolis,
17:03following massive protests over the killing of U.S. citizen René Goode by an ICE agent.
17:08National Security Secretary Christine Noem said that 2,000 federal agents will join the operations
17:13in Minneapolis, which aim to contain the social protest. In this regard, she threatened that anyone
17:18who tries to obstruct the work of the security forces will face serious consequences from the authorities.
17:25In addition, the U.S. officials justified the killing of René Goode, arguing that it was an act of
17:30self-defense as the citizen allegedly attacked an ICE agent during a raid against migrants.
17:43Also in the United States, thousands of nurses launched a massive strike at major hospitals
17:47in New York City. The action taken by healthcare professionals comes after negotiations for contract
17:52improvements over the weekend failed to achieve significant progress. Demands vary by hospital,
17:57but the main issues include adequate staffing levels and greater safety in the workplace. Going
18:01to the union organization, about 15,000 nurses are participating in the strike.
18:27In Palestine, in the last 24 hours, the Israeli military forces killed seven civilians during a new wave
18:37of raids against the east of the Gaza Strip. Saronist occupation aircraft launched a violent airstrike
18:42against the coastal enclave. At the same time, ground troops opened fire in the town of Hanjunis,
18:47south of the Gaza Strip, while emergency teams mobilized in search of injured victims trapped on the
18:52robel. For its part, the Ministry of Health confirmed the death toll had risen to more than 71,410 and
18:58the motive injured to almost 171,320 since the start of the Saronist aggression.
19:04And also in Palestine, dozens of families have left the Bedouin village of Rasen al-Ahuya in the West Bank,
19:20denouncing systematic harassment by Israeli settlers. At least 26 families were displaced this week after
19:26reporting daily raids by settlers on their homes and properties. The Reservoir Residents describe an
19:31unbearable atmosphere of intimidation that has forced them to dismantle their structures
19:35in search of refuge in safer areas. While the Israeli army has not issued any comments,
19:40some families are resisting the area despite growing pressure in the territory.
19:53And the people of Iran mobilizes in support of their government and against the vandalism resulting
19:58from the destabilizing actions of the last few days. Protesters support the economic reforms
20:03implemented by the Iranian executive. At the same time, they demand the application of severe sanctions
20:08against the instigators of violence who attacked national heritage, causing damage to public
20:13infrastructure and services. A total of 25 mosques were set on fire, 26 banking institutions were vandalized,
20:19and three medical centers were damaged. Added to this are attacks on emergency vehicles,
20:24including ambulances, buses and fire trucks.
20:34And on Sunday, Myanmar concluded the second stage of its first general elections held after five years
20:39of military rule. Warding took place in 100 municipalities, including critical regions affected
20:45by the civil war and under strict security measures due to the armed conflict, which forced the process
20:50to be divided into three phases. In this context, vote counting has already begun in areas where it
20:55was possible to set up polling stations, although due to the conflict, 65 of them will not be able
21:00to participate in the next round. Though its report at a third and final phase will take place on January 25th,
21:07in a country seeking to configure a new political landscape amid a deep internal crisis.
21:12And before the International Court of Justice, a UN court will begin key hearings against Myanmar, a country accused of
21:25responsibility for the genocide of the Rohingyan ethnic minority. The case originally brought by Cambia in 2019,
21:32alleges that ethnic cleansing operations carried out by the Myanmar army in 2017,
21:37an invalid 1948 genocide convention. The indictment focuses on the violent military campaign launched
21:42in Rajinan state, which resulted in allegations of mass killing, systematic rapes and the burning
21:47of thousands of homes. These actions forced the displacement of more than 700,000 Rohingya,
21:53who were forced to flee to Bangladesh.
21:55Last year, Shanghai's lithium battery exports surged by over 30 percent in the first 11 months. As the
22:08new year begins, Shanghai's ports are experiencing another wave of lithium battery shipments heading
22:13abroad. The rapid growth of the energy vehicle and energy storage industries is accelerating the
22:19expansion of lithium batteries into overseas markets. Classified as dangerous goods, lithium batteries
22:24have strict transportation requirements and must undergo rigorous safety testing before export.
22:30As shipment volumes continue to rise, the demand for pre-export safety inspections has grown
22:35significantly as well. We have come to the end of this news brief. You can find this and many other
