00:00Cuba confirms that it will resort to international justice to confront the new coercive measures
00:14impulsed by the government of Donald Trump. The Venezuelan government is promoting a general
00:21amnesty law with the aim of healing wounds and strengthening national coexistence.
00:25And in the United States, massive protests continue following the fatal shooting of
00:32intensive care nurse Alex Fretti by federal ICE agents.
00:35Hello, welcome to From the South, I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Dele Sous Studios in Havana,
00:43Cuba. We begin with the news.
00:55Cuba will confront the aggression of the United States in unity, backed by its global allies,
01:02and will seek international justice, as confirmed by President Miguel DĂaz Cano this Friday from Havana.
01:07The strong condemnation of the new escalation of aggression by the United States government
01:10against the island has gained strong international support. In this context, the Cuban leader,
01:15in a long day of speeches, has confirmed the island's ability to face this new attack from Washington
01:20and reiterates the fascist, criminal and genocidal nature of the White House. Moreover, governments
01:24and peoples around the world have raised their voices to condemn this new attack on the security,
01:29stability and peace of the region, while the head of state confirms that they will confront
01:33Trump's administration with firmness and confidence.
01:47also, of course, we're going to file an international complaint in all possible forums against
02:06this coercive measure. We continue working with allied countries and with the international community,
02:12the same one that supports Cuba every year when the vote is held against the blockade.
02:18And we are sure that we will not be alone and that there will be understanding and there will be
02:23international denunciation and there will be support for Cuba, because this is a criminal action.
02:29What right does an empire have? What right does the government of a power have to deny a small country
02:36what it needs fuel to develop? A small country that struggles every day against adversity to achieve
02:42its prosperity, the prosperity it deserves for its a reason. A country that is not a threat to national
02:49security. We are only a country of peace. Even in the midst of all this aggression and the blockade
02:54of all these years, we have said that we have the capacity and the willingness to engage in dialogue
03:00with the government of the US. What happens is that the dialogue cannot be under pressure.
03:05Dialogue must be under conditions of equality, of respect, without prior conditions. We have nothing
03:12against the United States people. On the contrary, as we always tell them, how many things are being
03:19denied to the Cuban people and to the US people in their possible cultural, research, scientific, sports,
03:25and educational relations because of the policy or the restrictions that the blockade imposes on everyone.
03:31And all of this we are going to denounce, without fear, because we do have the conviction that we
03:38must overcome our problems by ourselves, with our talent and with the courage of the Cuban people.
03:45Therefore, this is the conviction that we will defend the homeland, the revolution and socialism
03:50in the face of imperialist aggression, from the patriotism and anti-imperialism that distinguish
03:56and unite our people.
04:04The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America rejected the US executive order seeking
04:09to impose a total fuel blockade against Cuba. Al-BapticP issued the following statement.
04:14The Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of our America categorically rejects the recent executive
04:18order issued by the President of the United States, which seeks to impose a total blockade on fuel
04:23supplies to the Republic of Cuba under the threat of applying arbitrary tariffs against countries
04:27that maintain legitimate commercial relations with Cuba, in violation of international free trade
04:32rules, as well as the sovereign prerogative of each state. The statement continues as follows.
04:38This action, which is part of the historic policy of economic, commercial, and financial blockade
04:42against Cuba, seeks to subject an entire people to extreme living conditions. Far from breaking the Cuban
04:49people, these actions, which have been repeatedly and almost enormously condemned by the international
04:53community, have demonstrated the resilience, dignity, and determination of a nation that defends
04:58its independence and its right to build its own political, economic, and social project without
05:03external interference, threats, or aggression. Ending as far as, the member countries of ALBA expressed
05:10their solidity and support for the government and people of Cuba, and reiterated their firm commitment
05:14to international law and the charter of the United Nations, as well as to the defense of multilateralism,
05:19fair trade, and unrestricted respect for the sovereignty of peoples.
05:29And the Communist Party of Mexico reaffirmed its solidity with Cuban people and issued a statement
05:34denouncing the United States' threat to impose tariffs on countries that trade crude oil with the island.
05:39The organization declared we will continue to denounce these and other atrocities against the island,
05:45but we will also continue to move forward in unity with the people, with the organizations,
05:50and in every corner of the world we will continue to defend the revolution. The statement continues as
05:55follows. The blockade exists against a nation that, rather than being a bad example for the people's
06:00role, is a beacon of hope that another world outside capitalists or hordes is possible. The blockade exists
06:06to wear down, not a government, but a people lawyer to their principles. At the end of its communique,
06:11the party emphasized, let the imperialists know that they will, they will not be able to defeat Cuba
06:17with its combative people full of dignity. Let the imperialists know that Cuba represents the unity of
06:22revolutionaries around the world. We now have our first break coming up, remember you can join us on

06:46Welcome back. The Venezuelan government is promoting a general amnesty law with the aim of healing wounds and
07:03strengthening national coexistence. The acting president, Nelson Rodriguez, led the solemn session on the
07:08occasion of the opening of judicial activities for the year 2026 and the presentation of the management
07:13or corresponding to 2025. The event marks the formal start of the judicial year and reaffirms the
07:19Venezuelan state's commitment to institutional strengthening transparency and the administration
07:24of justice. Rodriguez also emphasized that the proposal seeks to address crimes,
07:28saving from political violence that have occurred from 1999 to the present, screening those convicted of
07:33homicide, corruption, drug trafficking and serious human rights violations. She further reaffirmed that
07:40the legal instrument will be submitted to the National Assembly to initiate a nationwide consultation
07:44process aimed at restoring justice and promoting coexistence among Venezuelans.
07:57I wish to announce that we have decided to promote a general amnesty law covering the entire period of
08:02political violence from 1999 to the present and I am asking the commission for the judicial revolution
08:13and the program for democratic coexistence and peace to present the law to the National Assembly in the next few
08:25hours. More than 84% of Venezuelans reject a return to political violence and are committed to preserve
08:34a national peace according to a survey by the United Nations Development Program. According to the study,
08:40the population prioritizes stability and tranquility over political conflicts or ideological differences.
08:46Diverse sectors of Venezuelan society affirmed that they have the necessary awareness to identify
08:51groups that are attempting to restore confrontational schemes similar to those of 2014. Analysts emphasize
08:57that the country is no longer the same and that the people will not allow the return of leaders
09:01who are committed to the economic and social repression of the nation.
09:10Meanwhile, in the United States, massive protests continue following the fatal shooting of intensive care
09:15nurse Alex Petty by federal ICE agents. The actions in which student groups, workers and merchants
09:20are participating are intended to slow down the city's economy and the sponsorship to the immigration
09:26departments as a strike measure. Also in Portland, protesters have taken to the streets and have been
09:31met with multiple arrests and passionate chants demanding accountability and an end to ICE operations.
09:38In turn, protests have spread from the west coast to the east coast, including protests in Los Angeles
09:44in support of immigrant communities and demanding systemic change. Protesters also denounced the
09:50immigration and racist policies of agents promoted by Donald Trump who've only entered communities
09:55and attacked citizens.
10:01And hundreds of Las Vegas citizens joined protests across the United States against the anti-immigrant
10:05policies enacted by the Trump administration and the crackdown by immigration and the repression by
10:11immigration and customs enforcement. The demonstrations are taking place amid widespread outrage over the
10:17killings of Alex Petty and poet René Good, who were shot dead by ICE agents. In this regard, protesters stated that the
10:24agency's raids and the Trump administration's anti-immigrant policies are creating a state of terror in the community.
10:35I mean, ICE is already in Vegas and terrorizing the community and I can absolutely see it getting worse. I think they're attacking states that went blue in the last election first.
10:44So, you know, there's a little bit of a bias there with going after Minneapolis and Minnesota when there's
10:50way less undocumented people there than there are in, say, Texas. So these are not all of the names,
10:57but these are some of the names of the people that have been taken from us by a corrupt government.
11:03And the United States government is also facing a partial shutdown starting this Saturday, which is expected
11:08to end next Monday when the House of Representatives is scheduled to hold the final vote on the funding
11:13agreement. The Senate approved the budget on Friday with 71 votes in favor and 29 against after a week
11:19of high political tension in which Democrats had refused to approve the provision that expanded funding
11:24for immigration agencies amid the crisis caused by the death of two U.S. citizens in Minnesota at the hands
11:29of federal agents. The legislation took effect at midnight triggering a technical shutdown until the
11:34agreement is ratified by the House of Representatives. As a result, the Pentagon and most national agencies
11:39will temporarily close their doors.
11:46And in this context, the budget package could face certain objections in the House of Representatives,
11:50especially from hardline conservatives who have declared that they will vote against any changes
11:55in the Senate to what the House has already approved. Further part, Democrats have also demanded a series of
12:00measures in order to approve the budget, including ending roaming immigration patrols, tightening rules
12:05to require search warrants for entering migrants' homes, banning the use of masks by agents, and requiring
12:11proper identification and the use of body cameras.
12:19And in Bolivia, the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran denied reports and rumors about alleged secret
12:24military cooperation with that country and warned that the unilateral violations by a global power of all rules of
12:30peaceful international coexistence posed a threat to several states. A correspondent, Fred Morales, with the details.
12:39At the celebration of Iran's National Day, marking the 47th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic
12:45Revolution, the strong relationship with Bolivia was highlighted through ongoing cooperation in the
12:51fields of health and technology. Through the creation of two non-profit hospitals in El Alto and
12:57Cochabamba, aimed at assisting low-income people in Bolivia. These hospitals are staffed by Bolivian doctors and personnel
13:03under the supervision of an Iranian doctor serving as director.
13:06The diplomat warned that a global power is breaking the rules of peaceful coexistence established after World War II,
13:16which constitutes an imminent threat to several states.
13:23After two world wars and the death of millions of people, the international system finally managed to
13:29establish this framework of law, and its unilateral violation will have very serious consequences for the
13:34international community. Today, Iran, yesterday Venezuela, tomorrow Greenland, Cuba, Canada,
13:43the Panama Canal, all friendly and unfriendly countries will be exposed to this breakdown of order.
13:54Rumors about alleged secret military cooperation from Iran with Bolivia were also denied.
13:58Contrary to all rumors and the negative propaganda of those who oppose the friendly relations between Iran
14:07and Bolivia, there has been no secret military operation or non-transparent agreement between our
14:17countries. The Bolivian Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the ongoing Iranian cooperation
14:27in the areas of health and technology, and the decision to maintain those strong bilateral relations.
14:35We value the exchange in nanotechnology and medicine, areas where Iran has demonstrated
14:40leadership that today contributes to the well-being of our citizens.
14:48On behalf of the authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, allow me to express our confidence that a
14:53constructive dialogue and mutual cooperation will continue to be the pillars that unite us in the
14:57pursuit of peace and the development of our peoples.
15:05Diplomatic relations between Bolivia and Iran date back to 2007. In addition to the donation of
15:11two hospitals to serve low-income communities in El Alto and Cochabamba, Iran contributes to scientific
15:18and technological development through the donation of an advanced nanotechnology laboratory. Considered
15:24unique on the continent, five dairy product factories and 700 tractors.

16:12Welcome back. On the eve of the 47th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution in
16:16Iran, leader Sayyid Ali Khamenei visits the Shrine of Iman Khamenei to renew the Pact of Loyalty.
16:22Ayatollah Khamenei reaffirmed his commitment, the principles of the foundation of the Islamic
16:27nation imparted by Iman Khamenei for reciting the Sur al-Fatiha for his soul and for those who died in
16:34the Islamic Revolution. The Iranian people celebrate the Decade of Dawn beginning on February 11th,
16:40which comprises 10 days representing the return of Iman Khamenei to Tehran after the triumph of the
16:44revolution over the monarchy 47 years ago, where a republic based on the commandments of Islam was
16:50established.
16:55Iranian President Masoud Peseskian reiterated that the violent protests were instigated by the United
17:01States and Israel. The Iranian leader stated that peaceful demonstrations do not involve the use of
17:06weapons, attacks on security forces or deliberate killings. The head of the Islamic Republic emphasized his
17:11willingness to listen to demands of the people and address their concerns. Peseskian pointed to the
17:16complicity of the U.S. government and Zionism in the recent acts of violence and terrorism in the
17:20country with the aim of sowing division and hatred within the Islamic nation.
17:36The shortage of medicines persists in the Gaza Strait, making it difficult to treat diseases such as
17:53diabetes and high blood pressure due to the blockade imposed by the Israeli government against the
17:57coastal enclave. Healthcare workers have warned that hospitalized patients are deteriorating as
18:03medications and alternative treatments run out. The Israeli silence regime only allows the entry of
18:08a few specific medications in a systematic manipulation of the health of the Gaza Strait population.
18:13Since the beginning of 2026, hospitals in the Palestinian enclave have been experiencing very
18:17dangerous conditions due to the increase in the number of sick people and the shortage of medical
18:22supplies despite the current truce. And at least 11 Palestinian children have lost their lives due to
18:32the extreme cold weather sweeping across the Gaza Strip. According to the United Nations, tens of thousands
18:37of Palestinian families continue to face severe winter conditions due to the lack of adequate housing
18:43and tends to protect them from the cold. The international organization called on the international community
18:48to provide more durable shelter to reduce the dependence of those affected on temporary shelters and to
18:54expand aid in the coastal enclave. It also demanded that the Israeli forces leave restrictions on
18:59international organizations so that aid workers can carry out humanitarian efforts.
19:18The facilities of the National Art Gallery located in the Venezuelan capital city, Caracas, celebrate
19:29the traditional festival of the Paradura del Niño on Friday. The event known as the most emblematic in
19:35the Venezuelan Andes marks the spiritual closing of the Christmas season. It consists of placing the image
19:40of the child Jesus in the man-girl symbolizing his first steps. This practice is part of Venezuelan history and
19:47tradition while also seeking to highlight the values of the identity of the states of Mérida, Tachir and Trujillo.
19:53It aims to strengthen bonds through prayer, music and community gatherings with gastronomic expressions,
19:58a practice that has spread throughout the country as a symbol of faith and community unity.
20:07And in Mexico, specialists from the National Institute of Anthropology and History have
20:12officially presented Tomb 10 of the Millennial City of Huitzo. Several experts consider the archaeological
20:18discovery to be the most significant in the country in the last 10 years. The tomb belongs to the Zapotec
20:23civilization and is at least 1,400 years old. It is located in the Etla Valley in the state of Oaxaca.
20:32The site is notable for its exceptional state of conservation with a human face at the entrance and
20:38above it. An owl, a bird that is a symbol of power and death. The site conserved paintings representing
20:43ceremonial processions with various characters carrying copa. The discovery has allowed the
20:49institute to begin restoration and protection work against looting, deterioration and loss of the
20:53pieces present at the archaeological site.
21:00And in Chile, a promotional video for the 2026 Spring Festival Gala was presented at an outdoor event in
21:05Santiago where thousands of residents enjoy colorful performances celebrating the upcoming Chinese
21:10New Year. The festival, recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the most watched annual television
21:16program in the world, will be broadcast on February 16th and highlights the richness of Chinese culture.
21:22Attendees expressed their enthusiasm for the video which captured the spirit of the Spring Festival
21:27and many stated their desire to watch the full show. In addition to the screening, the event
21:32includes interactive activities that allows aliens to experience Chinese handicraft, traditional medicine
21:37and Chinese cuisine.
