00:16a perfect way to celebrate and remember all of the accomplishments of this group of leaders
00:22welcome everyone to annapolis maryland home of the navy midshipmen
00:28as we'll see a squad from the american the south florida bulls taking on a fellow opponent from
00:35the american the navy midshipmen 48 sports college football i'm reese davis david polligan jesse
00:41palmer with me guys it's time to get it going
00:48and the bulls will put total leather and we'll get started
01:05and it'll be a touchback the ball will come out to the 25 yard line so the navy midshipmen will go on
01:18offense first to start this game and are we ever lucky to see these two great quarterbacks in action
01:24here today and jesse it will be long before we'll see them squaring off on sunday yeah these guys can
01:31both stress the defense for similar reasons we've seen it all year long right both guys have tremendous
01:36arm talent and both guys can hurt you running the football as well so these defenses are really going
01:42to have to be careful with how they try and defend these two quarterbacks david this one could come down
01:47to which guy has the ball last yeah which is really really cool a big showdown they know what's on the
01:52line man these are two huge names you know there he goes
01:56and the explosiveness the big gator gets it to the 49 yard line
02:03looking for a productive play on first down
02:07give to the fullback
02:12and a pickup of eight opens a world of opportunities on second and two
02:19stuck with a running game on first down now here they come again
02:23they'll send the back in motion give to the big fullback not much running room there thanks to this
02:32senior defender
02:33the midshipmen come to the line facing third and short
02:38he'll keep it on the sneak
02:43on first and ten from the 38
02:49they'll try to get the edge with the toss play here what a job up front and he'll lose a yard on that one
03:00navy will try to fight its way out of this hole here on second down wide receiver comes in motion
03:07the give to the back and there was nowhere to go just stopped in his tracks in the backfield
03:16navy now in trouble here on third and long
03:20looking downfield it's horvat
03:25saw spot in the middle he's finally stopped and brought down at the 15
03:31here comes navy back to the line after picking up the first down
03:36they'll leave it with the lone back
03:41he's dragged down at the 12 as they try to cash in on this red zone opportunity
03:46it'll be second down and remember they can pick up a first without scoring
03:51the gift to the fullback he's tackled right at the 10 yard line and they're trying to cash in on this drive
04:00and this is the area of the field where it gets really really tough because the red zone you know
04:06you got to run the football more well this defense is number one in the nation against the run so
04:10i look for this offense to to be more physical be creative try to find ways to run the ball against
04:16this defense that is so dynamic on the option
04:21and he wants it in for the score
04:25touchdown midshipman
04:27this defense has their hands full in this game because of what you saw right there
04:33this quarterback is one of the fastest players in the entire country
04:37and he runs one in
04:38they're gonna have to do a better job getting hats to him
04:41because they know they're gonna see the qb run a lot today
04:44they get set for the point after as we have the first score of the game
04:48and with the extra point they get the first seven of the game
04:54they put together a 74 yard touchdown drive
04:58and the camera on that drive the 10 yard touchdown run
05:02he'll bring it back from inside his spot
05:09and he did a good job bobbing and weaving and finding a little bit of running room on that return
05:16so usf's offense has its first opportunity of the day
05:20and what a performance this guy turned in last week spectacular in every aspect of the game tessie
05:28well i know one thing for sure the quarterback is going to be looking his way early in this one
05:32if you have a game like he did last time your quarterback
05:35you all of a sudden move up and probably
05:37oh he's got some space
05:39and he's to the 48 yard line that'll be good enough for a first down
05:43i'll tell you what a few more runs like that
05:46and defensively you start thinking
05:48more guys in the box
05:50more big guys
05:51i better stop this guy because he's unbelievable
05:53just a great job breaking off the big run
05:56and the oc is going to give him the ball some more
05:58and they won't make the connection looking to make a big play there
06:02this defensive coaching staff
06:04they love their secondary
06:05and they love the matchups they have
06:07they believe they've got five guys at least back there
06:10that can cover one on one
06:11you saw a great example of it there
06:13on third down forcing the incompletion
06:16out of the gun they'll run it inside
06:19and you know when we talk about great third down defenses
06:22it really starts with them getting stops on first and second
06:25you've got to get those stops early in the drives
06:29to set up third and long
06:30so that's a missed opportunity on that second down by this defense
06:33ground will throw it
06:39on the run still looking
06:41on the move he fires
06:43sweet throw and catch along the sideline
06:47it's enough for the first down
06:48you know what
06:50and it looks as if they've buzzed down
06:52replay wants to have another peek at that last play
06:55and they take another look at the play
07:14but the officials on the field were right
07:16and the play will stand
07:18the bulls are moving quickly down the field
07:24leaves it with the running back
07:30worked it down to the 22 yard line
07:34giving five on the carry
07:35halfway there on first down
07:41it's second and five
07:42looking to fire
07:47pucks it out of the air
07:49they get him stopped at the five yard line
07:52but it will be first and goal from there
07:55I'll tell you this slot receiver
07:57he really does give his quarterback
07:59a nice option
08:00runs really good routes
08:02he's got nice hands
08:04you saw it on that last play
08:05they'll try to get it in with the run
08:08and he takes it in for the score
08:10touchdown USF
08:12the offense goes as he goes
08:16so really no surprise in the opening drive
08:18they keep feeding him the football
08:19he showed you all of his ability on that TD
08:21setting up for the extra point
08:38and the top
08:38and he puts through the extra point
08:43a 69 yard touchdown drive
08:46and they punctuated it with a 5 yard touchdown run
08:50they're getting set to kick it away
08:52and that last score
08:53took a little oomph out of this crowd
08:55fielded in the end zone
08:59it's Hodges
09:00they finally get him on the ground
09:03but that's the kind of play
09:04that will carry momentum
09:06into the second quarter
09:07we played one
09:09and we are right back where we started
09:11all tied up after the first period
09:14as we take a look at the stats
09:15they fought to a stand still in the first
09:23let's see if someone can get the edge
09:25in the second quarter
09:26so first down here
09:29as they go back to work
