00:00I like the way that, what Sam said, it's sort of out with the old world, in with the new world.
00:06And there's been warnings that if the U.S. make a move to take Greenland, that could actually spell the end of NATO.
00:14And lots of people have been saying, what is going to happen? This alliance has been in place for 80 years.
00:20I don't know what you think of that.
00:23I'll get to that point, but just to add a bit on what the people of Greenland think,
00:27there was overwhelmingly they did want to be independent from Denmark.
00:31But I think the polls also said that they overwhelmingly did not want to be part of the U.S.
00:35So there's a balance there. But when it comes to NATO, has it lost its power?
00:40This doesn't mean when we're talking about its power, we're not talking about its physical power,
00:44because it still remains one of the unmatched military powers globally.
00:49Here we have some numbers for you, Leanne.
00:51NATO members collectively possess over 3.3 million active duty troops and spend roughly 1.3 trillion annually on defense.
00:59So this accounts for over 55 percent of the global military expenditure.
01:03So when we're talking about a loss of power, we're talking about political power here,
01:08as the U.S. administration is raising these significant questions about Washington's commitment to this alliance.
01:14So officials have recently stated that the U.S. security priorities do lie elsewhere.
01:19They haven't only stated this, they're actually showing it with their ambitions over Greenland.
01:24So this leads to this claim that they are losing power, especially when it comes to the Greenland disagreement.
01:29But I think that NATO is just currently navigating its most significant crisis of credibility as an alliance,
01:38as that has been faced in decades.
01:41So the bloc could break if the U.S. does move on with its ambitions in Greenland.
01:47And Donald Trump did give a glimmer of hope today, though, through Truth Social.
01:52He said that they will always be there for NATO, even though they're not there for the U.S.
01:57The United Statesç»™ you authors.
