00:01Pretend you're a donkey if you love the costas.
00:04Eh-oh, we love the beach.
00:06Oi, oi, Benadon, we love ya.
00:09Oi, oi, Kerry and Nicola, we really do.
00:12And with over 300 days of that glorious sunshine a year,
00:16it sure beats the cold and grey of the old UK.
00:19Ah, this is a lie.
00:21Living that dream can be blooming hard graft.
00:24Misting.
00:25My left, you're right.
00:27Stress level.
00:28Through the roof.
00:30But at the end of the working day...
00:32Go power.
00:32Go power.
00:33Come on, Sam.
00:34Forward.
00:34Booyah.
00:35The quality of life on the costas...
00:37Is priceless.
00:42Cheers.
00:43Peace and love.
00:44Cheers.
00:45That's why there will always be...
00:47I don't like weather.
00:48Sun gets in blazes where it shouldn't get.
00:49Quick, someone talk about the weather.
00:51The weather.
00:52Phew.
00:53It's friendly, it's exciting.
00:55It's just like a second home.
00:56Bargain, we're brits in the sun.
00:58Yeah.
01:00Today on the costas...
01:02Well, what was that, 22 and a bit stone?
01:05Diet dodger Dave saddling up in a bid to win the battle of the bulge.
01:09Oh.
01:10Oh.
01:11No pain, no gain.
01:13Mum's the word for newcomer Troy.
01:15Anything to keep the hat...
01:16Yes, Mum.
01:17Yes, Mum.
01:18Of course, Mum.
01:19And it's time for seconds with some classic Paula, as she ponders how to pull in the punters
01:24to her pub.
01:26The worst day ever we had was about 28 euros, and it's heartbreaking.
01:31Bouncy Castle.
01:38Yay!
01:41A 15-minute drive north of Benidorm is Lanuthia.
01:44Go on, Jake.
01:45Turn it on.
01:46Bouncy Castle!
01:48Bouncy Castle!
01:49And it's home to family man Dave Dennis and his wife, Sam.
01:54Are you going to go back down?
01:56It's not just the Bouncy Castle that's been expanding.
01:59Well, hey!
02:00I've got three kids.
02:02Jamie, my eldest, from my first relationship.
02:03And then I've got Freddie and Charlotte with Sam.
02:09And now we are...
02:11Pregnant with baby number three.
02:13I get so squished by kids.
02:16Oh, congratulations.
02:18Yeah, I think we're both looking forward to it, aren't we?
02:19Yeah.
02:20It was a definite shock.
02:21Got back from work and got given a oops.
02:24It was a good surprise, though.
02:26But as their young family's been growing...
02:29Is this safety testing for fat dad?
02:32So was Dave's waistline.
02:34Let's see if, when I lose weight, my butt don't touch the floor.
02:37Markshire boy Dave wants to trim down and get fit
02:40to keep up with his expanding clan.
02:43Got to start looking after myself a bit more, I think.
02:45You're not getting any younger, you're getting a bit fatter.
02:47And, you know, when you can't run around the garden
02:49after your kids as much,
02:50so I've got to sort my life out a little bit, I think.
02:52Ready, go!
02:58In this picture here, we're comparing bellies in Vietnam.
03:01This was on our honeymoon, wasn't it?
03:04My belly was bigger than Sam's.
03:06This was when she had Freddie.
03:08So the idea is this year, for me to have the smaller belly.
03:12The plan is to lose as much weight as Sam puts on.
03:15So we're going to have her belly off.
03:16Seems like a fair fight.
03:18Great idea.
03:19So what's the plan for shedding a couple of stone?
03:22I've got no idea how I'm going to do it.
03:25Oh, dear.
03:26I've never done a diet.
03:28That's the thing that's the worst, is going to be the food.
03:31You don't like exercise, though, either.
03:32So it's not going to be easy, then.
03:34Dave's dream is to lose two stone
03:36before their baby's gender reveal party
03:38in just two months' time.
03:41From now to the scan, we're about eight weeks now, aren't you?
03:43So 16, we should be able to do a gender reveal.
03:47And as they inch towards the reveal party
03:49and the baby's arrival,
03:51Sam's keeping Dave focused
03:52by charting their losses and gains.
03:56Now for the fun bit.
03:57Oh, my God.
03:59Stop pushing out.
04:00You keep cheating.
04:01129.
04:02129 centimetres?
04:03Yes.
04:04That's a lot.
04:05Former bar owner Dave now drives a van for a living,
04:08and his sedentary job
04:10has helped fuel his 51-inch waistline.
04:13Size has never bothered me.
04:15But it's starting to affect his health now.
04:17He's finding it hard to move around.
04:19Well, this is going to be a lot easier, isn't it?
04:2281.
04:24Measurement's done.
04:25Now for the dreaded weigh-in.
04:28Get your end off.
04:31140.
04:33Two?
04:3422 and a bit of stone.
04:36That's a lot, isn't it?
04:37I'm saying nothing.
04:38Oh, bless.
04:40Yeah, 59.
04:40We'll give you 59.
04:41Oh, my God.
04:42Bit of a bit of 59.
04:43I'm nearly three times your weight.
04:45Well, diet Dave starts now.
04:48Right.
04:48They're going to keep this here.
04:50We'll keep track every week.
04:52The countdown's begun.
04:54Dave needs to shape up and shed the pounds
04:56before Sam's baby bump catches up.
05:00Yeah, you best get on your bike.
05:02Quite literally, Dave.
05:03Have you packed, darling?
05:10Settling into their new life in Estepona.
05:12I've just got a few more things to do and then I'm done.
05:15It's couple Troy and Nicky who left Seaford in East Sussex for the sunshine just four months
05:20ago with their two sons, Reggie and Billy.
05:24Passport.
05:26Hey, don't forget that.
05:27Today, 36-year-old Nicky's packing to head back to Blighty to manage her skincare clinic.
05:32We do have businesses in the UK, but we've decided to try and spend most of our time in Spain
05:40and then travel back for work just for a bit more of an outside life, really, for the kids.
05:46With Nicky gone, Troy's flying solo and looking after the kids on his own for the first time
05:51in their new home.
05:54What am I going to do when I'm on my own then?
05:56Keep the kids alive.
05:57That's about it, really.
05:59Feed and wash the children.
06:01The childhood sweethearts married in 2021 in Tenerife.
06:06We've been together 20 years.
06:0820 years.
06:09We know each other, but there's certain things we don't know, I should imagine.
06:12We'll find out in a few months.
06:14Nicky will be gone for four days and she's not travelling alone.
06:19Okay.
06:20Gotta get packed.
06:20I'm a nightmare, let me tell you.
06:23I interfere.
06:23I don't mean to, but I do.
06:26Troy's mum, Nanny Tammy, has been staying in a caravan on the drive
06:30and is also heading back to the UK tomorrow.
06:35I'm only taking this bag with some shoes in.
06:38Got me clothes ready.
06:40She's been helping to look after the kids
06:41whilst the family's been settling into their new life.
06:45I'm going to go without my passport.
06:47Yep.
06:48Not looking forward to going home, though.
06:52I don't know when I'll be out again.
06:54When I can, I suppose.
06:56I love it.
07:00I will miss them.
07:00I'll miss the kids.
07:01It's not just the grandchildren that Tammy will be craving.
07:05And it's really good for my health.
07:06I'll go home, sit down, can't move, can't breathe.
07:10You do notice the difference here.
07:12Before she says goodbye to the sunshine,
07:15Nanny Tammy's got some helpful granny guidance for son Troy.
07:19What I've done is, I've got a thing about their school uniform.
07:22Because Troy's going to be left with the two boys,
07:24I've put Troy for washing, have two tops for school.
07:28Got it.
07:29This is so confusing.
07:30It confuses me and I wrote it.
07:33Troy's got no chance then.
07:34It's like giving it to someone else, isn't it, the worry.
07:36That's what it's like.
07:37That's what I do.
07:39My mum, good as gold.
07:40She helps.
07:41She does interfere lots, which I'd rather idea.
07:46She does it in England.
07:47We'd go to work, wouldn't we, Monday to Friday.
07:49And then she's let herself in, clean the house.
07:52Yeah.
07:52And my pants are put away.
07:54Sounds ideal to me.
07:55And kids must eat good food.
07:59I should have meat to deal with.
08:01And obviously it's my mum, so it's fine.
08:03And the kids love her and she helps out with the kids.
08:06Yeah, we would be without her.
08:08So before she hits the road, Troy's a few surprises in store for Nanny Tammy to show how grateful they all are.
08:16Got to be quiet because she's mum in here.
08:18It's all surprise.
08:19Surprise dinner.
08:20I know her favourite restaurant on the marina.
08:22You can't get better.
08:24Sounds lovely.
08:25Mum's the word, eh, Troy?
08:31Coming up.
08:32Dave's diet takes a tumble at the first toasting.
08:35Brown bread.
08:36So tastier.
08:38And it's crunch time for bar owner Paula as she tries to save her business with a bottomless brunch.
08:44At the end of the day, it's our livelihoods, it's our jobs, it's our everything.
08:55Benidorm is a place where we can get all the things us Brits love.
08:58The sun, the weather, the weather, Benidorm is amazing.
09:05The seaside.
09:06You can't get a beach better than this.
09:08It's like gold dust for your fingers, it really is.
09:10And Sunday roasts.
09:11And Sunday roasts.
09:13Parsnips.
09:14Yay.
09:14Big fan of parsnips.
09:16Us northern lads, we love gravy.
09:18We love quality food.
09:20At the right price.
09:21This is my very secret sexy fit gravy.
09:25Everybody loves the gravy.
09:26And the costa queen of Sunday roasts is Paula Ballantyne.
09:32Well, thanks for that.
09:34She's cock of the walk with her roasts now.
09:36But back in 2021, all was not gravy.
09:41Oh my God.
09:43It might be like a wet Wednesday in Warrington, but it won't dampen the spirits of Coventry
09:48last Paula at her watering hole in the heart of Benidorm.
09:53Morning.
09:54Morning.
09:55Lovely weather for ducks.
09:57Tell me about, just be careful, the floor's wet, darling.
09:59The hospitality industry, the catering, it's just what I love doing.
10:03Always have.
10:04We're returning to a time when it was no picnic for Paula trying to make a success of her bar
10:09and restaurant.
10:11We're not in a good place.
10:13At the moment, when we first opened, a good day was €350 taken, but that was only for
10:19the first few weeks.
10:21The worst day ever we had was about €28 for a whole day, and it's heartbreaking.
10:28I haven't taken a wage since I've started, really.
10:30Despite Paula's best efforts, the bar's struggling.
10:33But today, she has a plan.
10:35Morning.
10:36That will hopefully bring people back.
10:40We have come up with an idea.
10:42A bottomless brunch.
10:43We need to get money in the till, bums on seats, and create a good fun cracking atmosphere
10:50for everybody, and to make them want to come back.
10:52For €10, punters can eat until they burst, including one drink.
10:56So, Paula's hoping she'll make a bomb.
10:59That's your job for this morning, to come up with a cocktail.
11:02You have to try and be one step ahead of everybody.
11:04At the end of the day, it's our livelihoods.
11:06It's our jobs.
11:06It's our everything.
11:08Paula needs today to bring in the cash, or else the bar could hit rock bottom.
11:12Back in Lanuthia, 44-year-old Dave Dennis is determined to slim down and shape up for
11:28his energetic young family.
11:29But Dave's fitness journey will have to wait, as duty calls.
11:39Right, so this is the new business.
11:41This old van, I've had her now three years.
11:44This is what I use to transport dogs to and from the UK.
11:47She's like, maybe a bit rough on the outside, but good as gold on the inside.
11:52Hmm, sounds familiar.
11:55Former Benidorm bar owner Dave has swapped pulling pints for picking up pooches.
12:00Do you know, this is totally different from what I used to do.
12:03You know, I used to have sort of 12 people working for me, and just a crazy, crazy lifestyle
12:08just surrounded by party, party, party.
12:11Dave's pet taxi business thrives thanks to local animal charities, who trust him to transport
12:16adopted dogs and cats to their new homes in the UK.
12:21We'll sit in a van for 18 hours a day just driving, and the physical toll, it really does
12:26beat you up.
12:28And sat behind the wheel for days on end, is doing his health no favours.
12:33It's very taxing on the body, so I have to go to a chiropractor every month to have
12:37my back foot back in, my right hip's two centimetres higher than my left, and I've got tendonitis
12:43in my right knee and ankle.
12:46So, yeah, I wake up some mornings, I can hardly move.
12:49Ouch.
12:51With his health problems, and baby number four on the way, Dave needs to take getting fit
12:56seriously.
12:57The downside to this job is piling on the pounds.
13:00In the van, even though we sort of get out and walk the dogs, it's a five-minute quick
13:04walk, you know, toilet break, it's not exercise.
13:07Today he's heading to a dog sanctuary to schmooze some potential future clients.
13:12There's a lot of dogs in her hair, there she is.
13:14The sanctuary's run by owner and friend, Suella.
13:18Hey, hello.
13:19Dave.
13:19How are you?
13:20I'm good, you?
13:21Do you want to come and meet the dogs that might be going?
13:23Yeah.
13:23Before Dave's next trip to the UK, he needs to check what transport crates will suit his
13:28four-legged passengers.
13:31Hello, doggies.
13:32When you're getting these rescue animals, and you're taking them to their forever homes,
13:36and that meeting when they first get with their adoptive family, it's fantastic.
13:41Can't beat it.
13:41Hello, mate.
13:42Are you coming with me?
13:43You don't need a big cage, do you?
13:45So, this is Brian.
13:46Yeah, Brian's going to Bedfordshire.
13:48So, I'll give him a large cage so he's got enough room to get up and lay down.
13:51So, Stevie is now called Stevie Socks, and he's off to Aberdeen.
13:56We'll look after him.
13:58Dave's usual route winds from Spain through France and across the Channel to the UK.
14:03We go as far up to Scotland, sometimes across to Ireland.
14:06So, some days we have to do X to round Edinburgh in the same day.
14:09So, that's a hell of a journey.
14:12Right then, I'll see you on the 28th.
14:14Yeah, that's no worries still.
14:15If you get any more between now and then, let me know.
14:17All right, love.
14:18Keep up the good work.
14:18My spine's like in S-shape.
14:22And it's not going to get any better.
14:23You know, it's something that I need to do.
14:25I need to get myself a bit more in shape.
14:27Yeah, it's a bit of a wake-up call.
14:29You know, as you get older, the noises you make when you get out of bed.
14:33Well, Dave, with another long haul trip booked in,
14:36there's no better time to kick off that fitness plan before you hit the road.
14:41Well, great to get the dates.
14:42Great to meet the passengers.
14:43Make sure they all get the right size cages.
14:45Got to get off now, back home.
14:47Lots more to do.
14:53Dave's eager to kick off his weight loss plan.
14:56And we're spoiled for choice on the costas when it comes to working up a sweat.
15:00I think a few of us have splashed in the pool, fully clothed most of the time.
15:04Oh, I wouldn't count on that, Simon.
15:06Play football on the beach.
15:07Oh, I need to lie down.
15:09I do like to swim, but my best stroke is probably doggy paddle.
15:12Oh, yeah.
15:14You OK, Julie?
15:15My favourite stroke is breaststroke.
15:18Oh, she's still going.
15:20Back stroke.
15:21Very nice.
15:23I just sit round the pool.
15:24I mean, look at me.
15:25I look like old shorts leader.
15:27Hasta la vista, David.
15:30Read it, please.
15:31Out now.
15:32And we're back in Estebon.
15:34No, I'll stop now.
15:35Sorry.
15:36Washington for school.
15:37I have two tops for school.
15:39One for top Tuesday.
15:40Pee, tops, shorts.
15:4241-year-old waste manager Troy is getting his marching orders from the ladies in his life.
15:48Only what?
15:49What have you wrote there?
15:50Kids must cat food.
15:51Mum Tammy is flying back home to Seaford near Brighton tomorrow and has left son Troy a childcare checklist for his two boys.
15:59If only he could read her writing.
16:02I must eat good food.
16:04The kids must eat cat food.
16:06No, good food.
16:07Oh, crikey.
16:08Don't get that mixed up.
16:09I don't mind the list.
16:11Anything to keep her happy?
16:11Yes, Mum.
16:12Yes, Mum.
16:13Of course, Mum.
16:15No problem, Mum.
16:17She means well.
16:18Pee tomorrow.
16:19Pee the next day.
16:21Former nurse Nikki is also heading back to Blighty for work.
16:25It just makes sure that the business is running well.
16:27I get to see, like, my VIP clients, pay the wages, do all the admin.
16:32I'm back Sunday.
16:33Are you going to give me a lift?
16:34It means Troy's flying solo for the first time with the kids in Spain.
16:37I just don't really need that, if I'm completely honest.
16:42Brilliant.
16:43Swim, pool, baths, fast food for dinner.
16:46I'm not sure that's going to go down too well.
16:48The couple haven't been in Spain long and couldn't have settled into their new life without the help of Mum, Tammy.
16:58We've been here for four months now.
16:59Mum's gone back to England and come back again to help us again, where we've been to the town hall, etc.
17:05We've got our paperwork signed out, so Mum's been at home with the children.
17:08Couldn't be without her.
17:09We're a lucky, lucky family together.
17:11Very lucky.
17:12Tammy lives on her own back in the UK and hasn't been in the best of health.
17:17I've had three mini strokes and things wrong with me, so he wants me out here.
17:22You know, eventually, he doesn't want me on my own.
17:25He gets worried.
17:26I'm going to just keep strong.
17:28You know, go back home and just keep strong.
17:31Ready?
17:32Yeah.
17:32Go get the babies.
17:34Right, come on then.
17:35Bye.
17:36Ciao, bye.
17:37To thank Nanny Tammy for all her help, the couple have planned a grand farewell party later on
17:43and are now off on a secret shopping trip to find her some truly special gifts.
17:49Clunk, click, every trip.
17:51But first, Troy and Nicky need to pick up their two sons from the local international school.
17:58Eldest boy Reggie's 12.
18:00And Billy's 8 years old.
18:03Hello, mate.
18:04How was your day?
18:05There's no time to lose.
18:07The surprise meal is less than an hour away, so the family need to be quick finding the perfect gifts.
18:14Get Nanny a nice Spanish orange tree.
18:17I think she's going to love it.
18:18She's going to love it.
18:19She's going to say, and then she'll cry, emotional.
18:21What's Nanny going to do?
18:24Give that lad an Oscar.
18:26Bill?
18:27Yeah?
18:27We're going to find this orange tree.
18:30Where can they be?
18:31Well, the plan of finding the perfect orange tree isn't a bearing fruit.
18:37Well, we just walked past the pomegranate tree.
18:40Can't find the tree.
18:42Nalanga.
18:42Nalanga?
18:43Nalanga?
18:44Bless you.
18:45Bill, what's orange in Spanish?
18:47Nalanga.
18:48Nalanga, yeah.
18:50Top of the class, Bill.
18:51But with time running out, I'll be back.
18:55Troy's got another surprise up his sleeve, leaving Nicky and the boys to track down that tree.
19:01If it's outside plant, wouldn't it be outside?
19:04Reg?
19:05But it's not just the orange tree that's proving elusive.
19:09Where's your brother?
19:11Where's your brother?
19:12Oh, yeah, no question.
19:13Yeah.
19:13Reg?
19:15Seriously?
19:15Very frustrating.
19:17Sorry.
19:21Back in the heart of Benidorm Barland.
19:23Bar owner Paula's fighting to keep her bar alive and her staff in work, and hopes today's bottomless brunch is her big chance to bring in more customers and turn the tide.
19:41Anyone want to hide me out for any of the pubs in any of the venues, just let me know, guys.
19:47For a free lunch, regular Frank is lending a hand.
19:51Frank comes in, he helps us out. Whenever we need it, he's always there and he'll help us out.
19:56I'll do this for Saturday. Get a free Sunday roast up there, Paula.
19:59He's getting quicker.
20:00He's my potato peeler, aren't you?
20:02For a bargain-loving 10 euros, diners can eat as much as they want, and Paula's hoping that events like these will keep plenty of punters coming back for more.
20:12We can work today, we can work anything.
20:15I love you.
20:16I know. Thank you.
20:19Endless alcohol isn't part of the bottomless event.
20:23Chris the barman has been tasked with creating a new cocktail to tempt customers to spend more.
20:28Well done. High five there, babe. High five.
20:32Nice.
20:33Good job, babe.
20:35And just in time, the first guests are here and expectations are high.
20:41We've been here for Sunday lunch, but we've never had tapas before, so looking forward to it.
20:46We're here for the tapas. I'm not so sure about the paella.
20:50I haven't ever tried it, but I'm going for a lap.
20:54Asian cottage pie.
20:56Right, right, it's out.
20:57The food is going down a storm, but advertising the buffet as a bottomless brunch has created some confusion.
21:04Right, it's all going very, very well.
21:06The problem I'm getting is that a few people think that they can drink for the whole two hours and still just pay 10 euros.
21:13They get a save in the bar. It's a bankrupting.
21:16The drinks are from bottomless. The brunch is.
21:19Fingers crossed, they understand that this is a bottomless brunch with a few drinks.
21:23Give them another portion, Paula. That'll shut them all.
21:30Mushroom, tomato and goat's cheese pastry.
21:33Well worth a tenner. What have you gone for?
21:44I've gone for every pinch.
21:48Do you know what? This is brilliant.
21:50Bloody lovely.
21:51Yeah.
21:52Gorgeous.
21:53By the looks of it, they're all very, very happy people now.
21:55And so am I.
22:02It's been a successful day. Probably one of the better days, what we've had here for a long time.
22:08Paula and her team's hard work has paid off.
22:11The bar's bustling with happy diners and they break in a solid profit.
22:14But there's no time to celebrate. Paula can breathe for now, but can she keep the success coming in to save her ailing bar?
22:32Coming up...
22:33Has dieting Dave bitten off more than he can chew with his first fitness challenge?
22:38I don't think throwing the bike's a good idea.
22:41And Troy's surprise gift could land him in trouble and strife.
22:45They haven't got Nicky in the pictures. She's going to have the yum.
22:55Back in Lanuthia...
22:57There you go.
22:59Proper cheese pull.
23:00It's not diet food.
23:02No diet left to start tomorrow.
23:03Dieting Dave's first day of his health kick isn't off to the best start.
23:08Don't need to give up things, others.
23:10Switch to brown bread.
23:11That's so tastier.
23:12It ain't easy being cheesy, Dave.
23:14Just grab these bikes.
23:16Endless hours of driving in his new job has left Dave battling extra weight and stiff joints.
23:22Well, um...
23:24He definitely needs to get fit. He's got a bit of gut on him.
23:28With the help of 11-year-old son Jamie, Dave's preparing to go on a bike ride for the first time in seven years.
23:34Hopefully it's like riding a bike.
23:38The more lubrication, the better, I think.
23:40My target, two stone by Christmas, I think is more than doable, because I'm 23 stone at the moment, so it's only a little bit of me.
23:48It's been about that much.
23:49Do you want me to hold it?
23:50No?
23:50Yeah, it's definitely too low for me, isn't it?
23:52Yeah.
23:52Well, that's painful already. I ain't even left to drive.
23:55Dave wants to lose the weight for baby number four's gender reveal party in two months' time.
24:01You can have a bump reveal, and I can have a bump un-reveal. The biggest problem is when I'm driving, there's not healthy food. You know, there's petrol stations and fast food. So that's going to be the biggest challenge.
24:12Yeah, that's just about right.
24:15I know who thinks riding a bike's a good idea.
24:18You'll survive.
24:18I'll survive, will I? This is going to end up with so much pain.
24:22No pain, no gain, Dave. And wife of two years, 26-year-old Sam is keen that this challenge is just the motivation Dave needs.
24:30You got it fixed?
24:32Yeah, yeah, yeah.
24:33Dave's done a lot of diets before, and I know the thing he lacks is motivation. He does things for about a week and then stops. I'm hoping this time, with a bit of encouragement, he'll just get there.
24:47That saddle is well and comfortable.
24:49You're going to need a cushion. You're going to come back well sore.
24:51I know. Things I do for my family.
24:52If he did lose the weight, then he'd be able to run around after the kids for longer. He'll be around with us much longer, hopefully, as well.
25:02Right, let's go, let's go.
25:03At last, the boys are ready to hit the road.
25:07All right, wish me luck.
25:09Good luck, lads.
25:13Bye-bye.
25:14Bye.
25:15Bye.
25:17Dad, he nearly crashed.
25:19Dad, chain's off.
25:20Disaster.
25:23We haven't even got to the end of the path.
25:25Nope.
25:26It's not, it's on.
25:27Yeah, it's on now.
25:28Right.
25:30Come on then.
25:31Right, ready?
25:32Oh, the chain keeps snapping off.
25:36Come on, those pounds aren't going to lose themselves, Dave.
25:40We've got as far as the garden gate.
25:42All right, back to the workshop.
25:44We're not off to a great start.
25:46It's another big day for Benidorm bar owner, Paula.
25:53Morning, afternoon, good evening.
25:55Today marks her bar's second anniversary, and it's not been an easy ride to get here.
26:01All right, what's the damage? Anything left to do at the minute?
26:03Delivery's just arrived, so we're just sorting that away, putting that away now.
26:07Yeah.
26:07Well, then?
26:08That's the aspect.
26:08This is the second bar Paula's owned.
26:11She had to close the first when it struggled to make ends meet.
26:15I need to pay a bill now.
26:16I think I'm going to collapse.
26:18And there are times she's been worried the same could happen to this watering hole.
26:22I wasn't expecting it to be the struggle that it turned out to be.
26:25It was really, really dire.
26:28And at that point, the scariest of all, because I really didn't know whether I was going to come through it or not.
26:36It's only a little one.
26:38The struggle's still real, and Paula's hoping throwing a two-year celebration party will pack her venue and turn a profit.
26:45But being Benny Dorm, it's also a charity fundraiser for some rescue puppies.
26:51There was nine of them that were found in a dustbin.
26:54They've all been sent out by different foster people, but it's costing so much money.
26:59And the raffle prizes have flooded in from the community.
27:03Absolutely phenomenal what we've got.
27:05Absolutely brilliant.
27:07The generosity of everybody in Benny Dorm, everyone to pull together to help each other out.
27:12With so much to get ready for the birthday bash, two of Paula's regulars, Frank the Spud Peeler Galloway and Nick McGrath, have stepped up to help once again.
27:21Well, she's actually like her mother to us, really, isn't she?
27:24Yeah, she's like her mother in there, Paula.
27:25Yeah, because we're cranks, me and him.
27:27The boys have agreed to compare today's fundraiser, and with big plans for the bar games, they've headed into Benny Dorm to buy some props.
27:35Paula's a lovely woman.
27:37Works hard.
27:37Paula's hoping the boys will also work hard.
27:40Let me think about what Frank and Nick are like.
27:44Come and go, up and down, roundabout, chaotic.
27:48Yes.
27:48Scale up when they want.
27:50Yeah, go in when they want.
27:51Yeah.
27:51And a couple of great big massive hearts that'll do anything for everybody.
27:57Paula's counting on Frank and Nick to help raise loads of money for the charity and ensure the party's a big success.
28:04Don't let her down, lads.
28:07But back at the bar, Paula's had to pause the party prep.
28:11She's been swamped.
28:12We weren't expecting to be this busy this morning, but everybody seems to have built the bar wanting food orders.
28:19Think of the profits, Paula.
28:20Paula, the girls maybe run off their feet, but party planners Frank and Nick are in no rush to get back.
28:27Where the heck we are, I really don't know.
28:29Well, let me tell you, Paula.
28:32It's gorgeous today, sunshine.
28:33It's the sunniest day of the year.
28:36We've got our new game show on today.
28:38Tug of war.
28:39I'm a bit nervous.
28:40Tug of war.
28:41Ooh, let's hope you can pull that one off.
28:44We still haven't got a Scooby-Doo how we're going to manage this game, but we'll win you.
28:48Don't get tangled up, Frank.
28:50Whoa, we've got the rope.
28:51I can't go with pants where they're at last.
28:53Yeah, let's go.
28:54I'm sailing.
28:54Come on, I've always wanted to go down the rock.
28:56Get over there.
28:57Is it strong enough?
28:58Roping in the boys might have been a bad idea.
29:02Nick, let's have a little breather, kid.
29:04Lads, the party's due to start.
29:07Well, I'll be sending a stage party out to look for them if they don't hurry up.
29:11Oh, dear.
29:12Paula needs her party to be a big hit and bring in the crowds to ensure her bar's future.
29:18Has anybody actually heard from them?
29:19No.
29:20I'm actually starting to panic a little bit at the moment.
29:22Yes, am I.
29:23Because I've got ten minutes and they're still not here.
29:28Run, lads, run.
29:29If we don't pull this one out of the bag, Paula's going to kill us.
29:32They're my dogs.
29:45They're my babies.
29:50This is Zorita.
29:52She's just been with me about three months.
29:54This is Poppy.
29:54She's been with me six years.
29:56And Alfie, he's been with me about five years.
30:05I cook for them, you see.
30:07Oh, dear.
30:08Spoiled.
30:09Greedy boy.
30:10They, all three, at night, wait on the stairs for me to go to bed.
30:21They sit on the stairs and just wait.
30:26So, are we going then?
30:27Are we going?
30:28Yeah.
30:28Bloody warm, isn't it?
30:33Back in Estepona.
30:36Sweating.
30:37Oi, don't rub it in, Troy.
30:39Today, Sussex couple Troy and Nicky are picking up presents for a surprise send-off bash for Troy's mum.
30:46Oh, yeah.
30:47Venus flytraps.
30:48It's a race against the clock so they can give Nanny Tammy a proper send-off.
30:53Calamundine.
30:54Nicky and the kids.
30:56I don't know.
30:56Oh, hiya, Reg.
30:58Art using a garden centre gift, while Troy's hot-footed it to San Pedro for a photo finish.
31:04We're off to get some pictures done for my mother, from the kids, to say thank you.
31:08You know, something to remember the time away she's had, which will make her cry like you wouldn't believe, if I should imagine.
31:16Troy's mum, Nanny Tammy, is flying back to the UK tomorrow after spending the last four months helping her family settle into their new Spanish life.
31:24Having her here is a blessing, really, because if me and Nicky do need five minutes alone to go have a meal, then we get that.
31:33Yeah.
31:33When she's not here, we don't.
31:35Troy plans to print off and frame some cherished photos as a keepsake for mum and Tammy.
31:42Bill eating spaghetti.
31:43And then possibly, that's quite nice, the whole family look.
31:49Decisions, decisions.
31:51I don't know.
31:51There's too many to choose from.
31:52Back at the garden centre in Estepona, Nicky's also having a hard time.
31:59Struggling to find an orange tree, but I think I have, they call it a lime.
32:04It looks like an orange.
32:06That's weird.
32:08Luckily, Troy's having more success.
32:10Oh, look, you can have one portrait, one landscape.
32:12That's the one.
32:16Decision made.
32:17They're the ones.
32:19Great stuff.
32:20And give me, uh, ten minutes.
32:23Yes, thank you.
32:26As easy as that.
32:29Have a nice day.
32:30Yes.
32:30That's a little way, girl.
32:32So I got that for me, mum.
32:34I think she'll be happy when the kids give it to her.
32:36Beautiful, eh?
32:38Very happy with it.
32:40Nanny Tammy might be, but there's one person who won't be best pleased.
32:45They haven't got Nicky in the pictures.
32:47Ah, rookie mistake.
32:48Too late now.
32:50It is.
32:51Talking of late, if you don't get a move on, this surprise bash might be memorable for all the wrong reasons, Troy.
32:58She's going to have the yum.
32:59It's bad.
33:05They've got tuna cheese toasting back at the teeth.
33:08Right.
33:08Things are hotting up back at Paula's Benidorm Bar.
33:12Do you want the tuna mayo or do you want the plain tuna?
33:15The pub's been struggling and her second year anniversary shindig could be make or break, but there's no sign of today's compares.
33:22Frank and Nick are still not here.
33:26Where the heck they are, I really don't know.
33:29Hey-oh.
33:29Be careful what you wish for, ladies.
33:35The eagles have indeed landed.
33:38Oh, I can't tell you where we've been.
33:41Come on, lads, get set up.
33:44All right, this is the trigger war.
33:46Break grass, all right, Nick?
33:49So, happy days.
33:51Paula needs today's birthday bash to be a success, and although the business has struggled, there is a good turnout today.
33:57Donna, can I please, please, borrow some more tables and chairs?
34:04Nick and Frank's just turned up, and I'm now rammed to the rafters.
34:09The cavalry is here.
34:11More chairs, guys.
34:12Met Frank and Nick last year.
34:14They do a lot around Benidorm for charity.
34:16Great couple of guys.
34:17Pumped a bit.
34:18Paula's also using the event to raise money for some recently rescued puppies.
34:23Are we all ready?
34:23One, two, three.
34:24And there's lots of goodies for Frank, Nick and mate Andy to auction off.
34:30Right, let's get this party started.
34:33All right, so the first auction is a two-night luxury apartment stay in Benidorm.
34:38Ooh, exciting.
34:40One hundred down there, but one hundred euros.
34:42One hundred and one euros.
34:44Wow, the auction's even reached the UK, and Paula's on the blower getting their bid.
34:48Oh, I can't give a get ten.
34:51One hundred and eighty.
34:53Can someone top that?
34:57Two hundred?
34:59That's Paula's phone pal out of the bidding.
35:02Two hundred quid for two VIP tickets to the Benidorm Palace.
35:07Very well done.
35:11Phenomenal, it's brilliant.
35:12Not what I expected, because I knew it was going to be busy, but not this busy.
35:16With the auction over, it's time for the boys' pièce de résistance, their tug-of-war.
35:22Ten euros a team.
35:24Dig in, everyone.
35:26Three, two, one, go.
35:30Come on, get your backs into it.
35:31He's on his way.
35:32Come on, the one's up.
35:34Oh, you're low.
35:35Oh, two, no.
35:37Good going.
35:37I think the boys might just have pulled it off.
35:40Come on, son.
35:41You've got them.
35:42Oh, you've lost it.
35:48To the winners of the first Benny Tuggy.
35:52And Paula's birthday bash has been a big success.
35:55Lots of money was raised for the abandoned pups.
35:58This is on all of us, and I'm here to sleep.
36:02So, before I cry, I say thank you very much to everybody.
36:07We're still here, and we're still open, and we're still doing good.
36:10After a tough two years, Paula can finally celebrate.
36:14We made it.
36:15We made it.
36:16We're still here.
36:17We made it.
36:18Thank you very much.
36:23Coming up.
36:25No pain, no gain.
36:26Is it all downhill for Dieter Dave's fitness challenge?
36:30We definitely should have gone uphill first, then rolled back home.
36:35And it's an emotional goodbye for Nanny Tammy.
36:38We'll be back soon, won't we?
36:39Yeah.
36:40Pretty fun.
36:50I'm here.
36:51Hola.
36:52Reunited at the garden centre in Estepona.
36:54So, we've got two to pick from.
36:56Couple, Nicky and Troy, are on a last-minute dash to buy special gifts
37:00before Nanny Tammy's surprise send-off party.
37:04Is this the perfect size for one?
37:05Yeah.
37:06I think little one.
37:06Watch it grow.
37:08Troy's mum, Tammy, has been a huge help looking after the kids
37:11while the family settled into their new life in Spain.
37:15Spanish.
37:17Orange.
37:17And now, Troy and Nicky want to say thank you with some surprise foliage
37:22before she heads back home to the UK tomorrow.
37:26Success.
37:27That is perfect.
37:29Perfecto.
37:30Well done-o.
37:32I think we've got to go.
37:33Time.
37:34Nanny's booking.
37:34Nanny's booking.
37:36Troy also has planned a surprise meal for his mum,
37:39but time's ticking
37:40and they need to get a move on.
37:42Okay, perfect.
37:43Gracias.
37:43Gracias.
37:44Hasta luego.
37:46Back at the villa,
37:47Nanny Tammy has been getting ready in her driveway caravan.
37:51I've got some plants for you!
37:53So what they've done is they've bought you a Spanish orange tree
37:58to plant outside your caravan.
38:01This is to say thank you for helping us with moving over it.
38:06Thank you, my darling.
38:09They're beautiful.
38:11Oh, I love them.
38:12The trees work to treat.
38:14No, it is lovely.
38:15It's tomorrow I'd, you know, leave it.
38:18It's going to be...
38:19It feels empty.
38:21Don't worry, Tammy.
38:22The family have one more surprise to cheer you up.
38:25Let's go.
38:26Let's go.
38:29Troy's picked a special restaurant for mum, Tammy,
38:31down near the marina.
38:34Here we are, mum.
38:36Your favourite restaurant, eh?
38:38It's nice for her to say goodbye to the kids.
38:40And she loves that restaurant.
38:41She chose the restaurant every time we go out.
38:44That's the one she wants to go to.
38:45So, yeah, she's happy.
38:46You might see some tears, maybe.
38:48It's all about you.
38:49This is your farewell dinner.
38:51To say goodbye.
38:52And see you next time.
38:53The boys made something for you to take back with you.
38:58Where's all I love?
39:00And Tammy, I'm just by where the frame is behind it.
39:03Yeah, we just cut Nikki out accidentally.
39:05I thought you got away with that one, Troy.
39:09You can give Nanny a cuddle.
39:10See you, Miss Nanny.
39:11Mum, she's on her own.
39:17So I'd rather her be here with us.
39:19And for her health, this weather is just perfect for her.
39:23I think in a few years, she'll be here.
39:25Cheers.
39:26Cheers.
39:26Cheers.
39:27Thanks, Fernan, for helping us.
39:30I can't go there.
39:31We'll be back soon, won't you?
39:32Okay.
39:33Yeah, not long.
39:34It'll be fine.
39:35Come on.
39:37It's all right.
39:38It's all right.
39:39Oh, don't.
39:39You'll have us all going, Sammy.
39:41Happy tears.
39:42They're happy tears for us going away and having a lovely time in this lovely place.
39:45Who wouldn't want to live here?
39:47We're lucky, lucky people.
39:50It's all right.
39:51Until next time, Tommy.
39:52Safe journey back.
39:58In Lanuthia.
39:59Ha-ha.
40:01Putting on gas.
40:04Dave's kicking off his weight loss challenge with the help of 11-year-old son, Jamie.
40:08Yeah, this is all right.
40:10Don't mind downhill.
40:11Oh, he's got a gig.
40:12He's got a gig of change.
40:13With baby number four on the way, Dave's desperate to get fit.
40:18My goal is to lose two stone before we find out whether we're having a boy or a girl.
40:22So I've got about two or three months to do that.
40:25It's going to be hard because I really do like my food.
40:29Me too.
40:31No pressure.
40:33That is not comfortable.
40:37Careful.
40:38There's a stone jump.
40:40Oh, bikes are not fun.
40:42Oh, dear.
40:43Let's go.
40:44Poor Dave's struggling and feeling every bump in the road.
40:53It's the speed ramp.
40:54Oh, they get you.
40:55Then you have to sort of hold your balance.
40:56You forget how hard riding the bike is.
40:58Oh.
41:00Come on.
41:02I feel like the saddle wants to become part of me.
41:06Oh, heck.
41:07Now we've got to go up here, won't we, to get home.
41:09Yep.
41:11Come on.
41:11Let's go, boy.
41:14Come on, lads.
41:15One last push.
41:17See?
41:18I'm even allergic to exercise.
41:20Jamie's loving it.
41:20He wants to go for a bike ride with his old man.
41:23Like, as soon as I said, right, Jay, we're going to go for a bike ride, his eyes litter.
41:26And that's another motivation.
41:28Well, keep reminding yourself, Dave, there's another big hill coming up.
41:34No pain, no gain.
41:37We definitely should have gone uphill first, then rolled back home.
41:41I'm not that exhausted.
41:42It's my legs.
41:43I've learned that my new health plan is going to be very painful.
41:46So maybe cycling is not the way forward.
41:48I can do with a healthy eating and that.
41:50But that bike hurts.
41:52Mental note, we don't go up this hill again.
41:55And poor Dave has to take another break.
41:59Whose stupid idea was this?
42:04Can you definitely go again, Phil?
42:07Well done, lads.
42:08At least you finished back on your bikes.
42:10I think that was a draw.
42:16Definitely a draw.
42:17I think he's done really well, too.
42:19But I didn't think he would get on the bike at all,
42:21considering it's been parked in the garage for about three years.
42:24I'd better get a lot of gain for all this pain.
42:26My legs have gone.
42:27They've gone to jelly.
42:29When you guys start somewhere, the more you do it, the more you'll get used to it.
42:33That's the spirit, Sam.
42:34The first step, or pedal, is always the hardest.
42:36It made me find something that doesn't kill Dad so much, but definitely something to get me fit with the kids.
42:43Healthy eating, walking, maybe some swimming.
42:48I don't think I'll be on the bike again.
42:49Next time on The Costas, Barbecue King Chunks gets creative.
42:55Sikka masala, flavoured bacon.
42:57Dog rescuer Sue is chasing someone else's tail.
43:01Have you got that?
43:02No, not yet.
43:03She's so scared.
43:04And Bambi's in search of deals for her wheels.
43:07Definitely make a profit on the caravans when I decorate them like this.
43:10And Bambi's in search of deals.
