00:00A lot of fans were kind of mad with your character at the beginning of the finale.
00:03They're like, what is Carol doing?
00:05But then she comes back around to the Carol that we knew.
00:07What was it like playing that transition with her?
00:11It's tough.
00:11We did a lot of talking with Vince Gilligan, my showrunner, obviously,
00:16but then also with Gordon Smith and Allison Tatlock, who co-wrote it and Gordon was directing.
00:21I'm like, so is she delusional voluntarily?
00:27Apparently, or like how much of her?
00:29So we had to find that balance of there is still a part of her, and you see it,
00:34that knows this is not to be 100% believed.
00:37You know, like they're still saying they love everybody the same.
00:40This is not real consent.
00:42This is living in a dream.
00:44But they were explaining to me that she's been so broken by the isolation period
00:49and has tried to elicit help everywhere she can.
00:53Nobody seems to care.
00:54And it's kind of like, okay, well, you can keep fighting and die alone on a couch watching Golden Girls
01:01or maybe just be at peace with the fact that they can't change you
01:06and go in the direction the river is going.
01:09So I think it was a desperate choice that she's desperately trying to believe.
01:14But yeah, I watched it with my family over the holidays,
01:16and they were all yelling at the TV too.
01:18My sister Donna was like, what is wrong with her?
01:20Why does she believe this?
01:22And I was like, okay, calm down.
01:23It's called a twist.
01:25Everything's going to be fine.
01:27How much does Vince keep you in the know about what's coming next for the show?
01:31Oh, I know nothing.
01:31I get one script at a time.
01:34Season one, did you get one script at a time?
01:36Yep.
01:36So I go on the same journey that the audience does sometimes.
01:39I'm like, wait, what?
01:41But yeah, it's fun.
01:42It's fun.
01:43Do you have any hopes for Carol in season two?
01:48I know they're ratcheting things up, hence the final scene.
01:52But it sounds like an evasive answer, but more of the same,
01:57just because I just love how he's letting me be so honest in each of these moments,
02:02whether they are comedic because it's human nature in the behavior,
02:06or dramatic and these wild swings, not telling the audience what to think,
02:11letting them go on a journey with us and just keep going with that.
02:15And I guess one thing that I am excited about is that now she's met Manusos.
02:19So I'm very excited to see what that pairing will be.
02:23Yeah.
02:24I think two fans were upset when he arrived because you see him go through this crazy journey
02:28and then she's like, I'll tell him to leave.
02:30You know, I don't even want to be here.
02:32Well, she's completely full of shit.
02:34Like, I don't know why they left.
02:35It's definitely not because I'm sleeping with one of them.
02:37I don't know what, what, what.
02:39Yeah, I love that he can see through her crap so well.
02:43But to be fair, when some people are like, why was she,
02:46he drove all that way and then she's rude immediately.
02:48I'm like, you showed up with a machete and you want me to talk to you
02:52in the back of a creepy ambulance.
02:54Like, that's weird.
02:56I think she's allowed to be a little rude.
02:59Well, I can't wait to see what happens in season two.
03:01And one last question for you, since we are at the Critics' Choice Awards,
03:04do you read reviews or do you avoid them?
03:06I don't.
03:07I don't.
03:07I'm too thin-skinned.
03:08But I know that the critics all the way through Better Call Saul and now this
03:13have just been really incredible
03:16because I can tell from the interviews
03:18and the conversations I've gotten to have
03:20of, like, real thought-provoking questions about character,
03:24about story, about how they relate to the story,
03:27how they're interpreting the story.
03:29So they've been very, very kind to me about that.
03:32And I'm very thankful.
