00:00The number one thing that we said that needed to occur in this game for Ohio
00:04State was to be able to start fast.
00:07They did not.
00:09Another thing that we said that needed to happen,
00:11they need to have some tempo.
00:13They need to get Miami's defense running.
00:17There was a couple of drives in there, good drives, where that did occur.
00:22But it did not happen at the beginning.
00:25I would say this, too.
00:27And again, I'm always, this show is predominantly Ohio State, folks.
00:32So I'm always going to lean with our guys because Bob and I have a relationship with them
00:39and we know them.
00:41But Miami's defensive line played very, very well.
00:46There was a play, and this is where I think, you know,
00:50you have to look at it with transparency.
00:52I thought that our offensive line would, after the last game versus Indiana,
00:59with 25 days of preparation, understanding what Miami's defensive line is capable of,
01:07would have had a game plan.
01:09They changed it up in the second half, Bob, to a lot more, what, gap, right,
01:15which is what we like.
01:16But still, the ability just to give Julian some time, part of that was him holding onto the ball
01:24and not really seeing the field.
01:26Part of it was on, you've got to step up in the pocket and you've got to get rid of the football.
01:31Part of it was, if the man's beating you with the same move five times in a row,
01:37I would suspect, you know, like, let's have a little bit of a better kick step.
01:45All those things kind of came into play defensively.
01:48And I also thought Max Clare was going to have a bigger game.
01:51He had a big game in blocking, but there was one that was wide open that was missed.
01:56He wasn't really utilized.
01:58He utilized 12 personnel, which we talked about, Bob, had some success in the second half,
02:03but he didn't have necessarily the statistical game that I thought he would have.
02:07And then defensively, when you're in a game like this, momentum happened, you're down 14-0,
02:15your job is to get off the field.
02:18And they did that right after the, so, boom, early game, first quarter, it's like putt, putt, putt, fumble, right?
02:28They were marching in, had a great opportunity to, like, flip that, kind of get that momentum.
02:33Use a fumble, get some points.
02:36And then they scored a touchdown for eight minutes.
02:38And then we had the interception, which we were going down there to score, and that was bumpy.
02:42And then at the end of the game, their ability just to chew up the clock and run the football and get first downs,
02:48and I'll give more details later.
02:50And at the end of the day, that's the ballgame, Bob.
02:53Like, it wasn't, you had opportunities, but you just didn't execute when you needed to execute.
03:00It was tough.
03:02They made changes, like, they were changed on the offensive line.
03:06Now, look at this.
03:06And we'll get into all of the different things, like high level.
03:10People, you know, and I've done this a bunch of times since the game.
03:13I've been drinking a crap load of water and, like, just, I don't know if I've even slept just from everything.
03:19And I look at this, and, like you said, there were opportunities.
03:29You give up an opening drive.
03:31You let them drive down there and ultimately score at the beginning of the game.
03:36Not the end of the world.
03:38You can recover from that.
03:39Well, check that.
03:40You have a punt.
03:42You force a punt.
03:43Three and out.
03:44Three and out to start the game.
03:46I was like, man.
03:46And so that's my point is, they don't have to take out the ball back.
03:49You think they're going to drive down and score.
03:50Boom.
03:50They don't.
03:51Miami drives.
03:52They're down near the red zone.
03:55I don't know if they're in it or not.
03:56They're inside the 30.
03:58They fumble the ball.
03:59Peyton Pierce.
04:00Great play.
04:01Tackle.
04:01Punches out.
04:02Recovers it.
04:03Highest it gets the ball.
04:04I'm thinking, boom.
04:05Now they're going to go score.
04:07The problem is, they could never get that lead to play with.
04:10And when you're playing a team with a really good D-line that wants to run the football on you,
04:15that isn't great trying to press the ball and push the ball down the field.
04:18You needed to get that lead.
04:20And there were four series that transpired in the first quarter.
04:23And you never get the ball and ultimately go punch it in and get some points.
04:29And that's what's tough.
04:30That's what's really hard for this team.
