00:00This year on three has Ohio State's defense ranked eighth coming into the season,
00:03which people might look at that as a slight.
00:05But when you look at all that they lost,
00:08it's pretty impressive that people think of them that highly already.
00:13And they're going to have to go out there and prove it.
00:15But if they're a top 10 defense again this year with all of the turnover that they had,
00:20I think this team is going to be unbelievable.
00:23Oh, yeah.
00:24And I think I saw some about their projected start as you look at it,
00:27and it's a bunch of either new guys in new roles or transfers.
00:30So the fact that they're able to get in the top 10 with a bunch of guys in new roles,
00:34that's a credit to Matt Patricia and Ryan Day,
00:37what they've been doing with that defense the past couple of years.
00:39I think they can finish in the top five just because we kind of have a little bit of knowledge
00:44of these guys coming in.
00:46I feel like, like we said earlier, Earl Thomas, I almost called him Earl Thomas,
00:49probably plays like Earl Little Jr.
00:51I think he's going to have a sensational year.
00:53James Smith, he's going to be fantastic.
00:55Talked about Christian a little bit.
00:57He's going to be a part of that linebacker little room rotation they might have.
01:00So they've got a whole bunch of new faces that I think are going to make a big-time splash,
01:04and I don't know if people are anticipating them to have the impact that they're probably going to have.
01:08So I think this defense, they're going to be top five again this year.
01:12It's Coach Day and Patricia just continuously rolling guys in and out of this program onto the NFL
01:17and just making huge successes of themselves.
01:20Absolutely.
01:20And the big area of question for me coming in, I thought they'd be fine on defense.
01:24You know, Peyton's coming back, and he's played a lot.
01:26But the combination of, you know, you've got T.J. Alford, who I thought played really well in the spring.
01:33Christian played really well in the spring.
01:35Riley was hurt, but he played – you know, he had a lot of good film last year.
01:39I know they're trying to get Stove and get him in the mix as well because he looked really good
01:43in the spring.
01:44Like, finally, it looks like the game's kind of slowing down for him.
01:46And so they've got, like, the players that they can put out there.
01:49And what Matt Patricia always likes to do is he tries to build packages for guys.
01:54And so, hey, if you can do these things, like this is a four-linebacker package we have.
01:57Maybe this is more of a, you know, a blitzing package, a coverage package, a run-stop package.
02:02And, you know, look at the teams that they're playing this year.
02:05You know, going from playing, you know, Iowa and Illinois, where you're going to see a lot of 12, 13
02:11personnel,
02:12two tight ends, three tight ends on the field, so you get more linebackers.
02:15And then there's going to be games where they're playing USC, where they're, you know, not running the ball hardly
02:20at all.
02:20They're going to try to sling all over God's creation.
02:22So it might be a little bit of a different look or feel, those guys building into this.
02:27So I knew the linebackers.
02:28Felt pretty confident about them.
02:31Secondary, you're losing Caleb.
02:32Obviously, that's huge.
02:33Losing Davidson, that's huge.
02:34But, you know, Jalen McClain was coming back.
02:37He also lost Renzo Stiles, too.
02:39But Jalen McClain coming back, Jermaine coming back, Devin Sanchez, like, taking that next step.
02:47And then they drop, like, Earl Little in there.
02:49Royer has stepped up.
02:50A lot of stuff is like, okay.
02:52Secondary-wise, like, they've got guys who have played before that are coming in.
02:57They've got some guys that are ascending.
02:58You feel good.
02:59The D-line was really the big question mark.
03:02But after bringing in Quay Rousseau, James Smith has been really good.
03:07John Walker coming in.
03:08Like, I think Phil Steele had the D-line as one of the best D-lines in the country.
03:15And so if you're telling me that the area I thought was the biggest question mark is now one of
03:19the top units based upon, you know, who's in there and some of these guys developing.
03:24And, you know, the development of Kenyatta and everybody else, like, they could be really stinking special.
